“And so, after the fall of the great city at their betrayal, the TREACHEROUS childer fled into the world at large, spreading the POISON of their JYHAD for all to…” Dios. Apparently “riten” is some odd, foreign slang for preaching.

After taking you back to Monterrey from Salvador’s manor, the pack – that is the term for their group, apparently – strongarmed you into accompanying them into the basement of a merchant’s shop you recognized. There, exhausted from the night’s events, you were honestly almost glad that they forced you to rest down there with them, barely questioning the strangeness of such a practice. Come sundown – Jesuchristo, you must have slept the whole day – they set off out of town, forcing you to accompany them. You thought of bringing up your desire to stay, but given their demeanour and… really, it’s just that, they creep you out. In any case, they had told you to shut up, anyway, so you followed silently. That’s when the preaching started.

Vadim, apparently, takes the religious aspect of their ‘Sabbat’ organization very seriously and has been regaling you with historical facts since you set out on the road to… well, you don’t know where, but you’re going there in any case. They don’t seem quite as hostile and threatening as they were last night – as you understand it, this is something like an ‘initiation’ of some kind.

While this does mean that you feel less about to die, it is uncomfortable to hear such blasphemies against Christ. Apparently some God-like beings betrayed some other God-like beings several thousand years ago, and their descendants have continued to fight, and having split into factions – one of which manages the ‘pack’ you’ve been abducted/adopted by – these factions are still fighting, and you’re all some sorts of creatures of the night, and…

“And at this convention, our founders threw out the LIES and INSULTS of the SCUM CAMARILLA, choosing instead to…”

Jesuchristo, he’s been at this for hours! You were barely following along at the beginning – at this point you’re really only listening to every other word. The other members don’t seem to be taking him too seriously, not quite rolling their eyes but they shoot each other looks with the same meaning. Vadim either seems to not notice, or not care.

“And THAT, soon-to-be cainite, is the story of the Sabbat.”

Wait, he’s finally done? …Does this mean you get a horse?

“And now,” – Dios, no more –“you are ready for your riten!”

You almost want to bury your face in your hands. WHAT WAS THIS, THEN? Of course, you don’t actually say that – you remember Vadim’s eyes when you stood up to him. You shudder. You’re further away from Monterrey than you’ve been in years, you’ve got to keep your wits about you. You can’t turn this ‘pack’ against you or you’ll die for sure.

At this point, one of the women – Juanita – takes over, continuing the semi-religious preaching with far less fervour. There’s a lot of ‘repeating after’ deals, only increasing the religious connotations. At first you think about refusing, thinking of what the Pastor would say, but after a sharp look from Vadim… you repeat after her as requested.

“And so, Juan, I embrace you into the Sword of Caine fully and without reservation, recognizing the duality of your freedom as a superior being and your duty to militantly oppose the elders…”

“And so, I am embraced into the Sword of Caine fully and without reservation, recognizing the duality of your freedom as a superior being and your duty to militantly oppose the elders…”

“Through the powers of blood, body, and spirit, you will do all in your power to cast down those who would deny our freedom…”

“Through the powers of blood, body, and spirit, I will do all in my power to cast down those who would deny our freedom…”

“Until such time as your chains are shattered at the world’s reckoning.”

“Until such time as my chains are shattered at the world’s reckoning.”

Well, that last part was a bit ominous. As for the rest, though… you ponder your thoughts as Benito, the rail-thin Hispanic man, hands Juanita a glowing object of some kind.

You feel…

>Sickened. This goes against everything you’ve learned in church. To imply there are those who could challenge the power of God, or that there could be more than one divinity, is simply incorrect.

>Fearful. Whether or not it’s true, these people are clearly zealots – and they’ve apparently adopted you into their organization. You just want to go back home, to mama, to how things were before all this.

>So macho

It’s horrific, you can feel your flesh searing, crumbling at the superheated metal, but… you are not so weak of mind. Not like these ungodly beings. You grit your teeth and hold you ground as Juanita presses the brand to your flesh for nearly 10 seconds before withdrawing it. Vadim laughs as she hands it back to Benito. “Impressive! For one so fresh to have such control. You have done well, and brought a worthy member into the fold, Juanita.” She nods, more of a twitch really, as she stares at the ground while Vadim speaks. Without another word, Vadim goes up to the head of the column to ride beside the leader, Seraphina, leaving you walking – Dios your legs are burning – alongside Juanita and Benito. The last one, you still don’t know her name, is taking up the rear.

Juanita turns to you, her voice barely above a whisper as she speaks in that quavering, perpetually-frightened tone you’ve come to associate with her. “Now that you are Cainite truly, I must explain some things about your condition to you…” She looks afraid at the prospect. Well, she’s afraid of something at least.

Over the next few hours of walking, she explains the more practical side to what Vadim was preaching earlier. The importance of avoiding fire and the sun, the unholy abilities in your blood you now – whether you want to or not – possess, and the abilities in your blood. Blood is apparently worth a great deal to these monstrous, and as she explains it, you are a… Shimeze? Tshimezay? She spells it eventually, and you don’t bring up your near-illiteracy. Tzimisce, whatever that means; it’s apparently related to those god-like figures Vadim brought up. In any case, whether it’s the practicality of her words or just the tone in which she delivers them, you retain much more from her than from him. She explains that, like her, your ‘Sire’ (creepy, you already have mama, no thanks), you have abilities that allow you to see the truth of the world, influence the flesh, and speak with the beasts. Those first two – especially the latter, you think, shuddering at the memories – you can tell are true, but what about that last one? You’ve never really had much luck with animals.

She invites you to try, anyway.

More laid-back or not, she’s still one of them. You can’t trust her.

Trying to… reach out, keeping eye contact with her horse as she instructs you, you can almost feel the connection, but… you can’t quite make it. It’s like trying to hear something through too many layers of separation – you know there’s something there, you just can’t tell what.

After a few minutes of trying, you give up. You do feel quite a bit hungrier, though. Seeing your… well, apparently she can just tell, but in any case Juanita clucks her tongue. “That’s alright, that’s normal. We’ll find you something to eat when we stop.” You still find her nearly motherly tone unsettling.

Your inner revulsion at what you know that means fights with your unmistakable predatory urges. You know you’ll have to eventually, but… Dios it makes you sick. What are the alternatives, though? If they knew of one they didn’t tell you.

You keep walking, your hunger and inner horror battling across the field of your conscience, as the night rolls on. The conversations seem to largely die down, although up ahead Seraphina and Vadim are speaking quietly.

As your – their – group walks down the dark path, slowly but surely a flickering light comes into view, up ahead. Looks to be the campfire of a group stopped for the night on the road. Juanita smiles at you. “See? Told you it’d be fine.” You turn away, trying to hide your grimace. You are really very hungry, though…

The slow approach continues until the noise of the horses attracts the attention of the group around the fire. There are nearly a dozen of them, hard-worn – travelers, merchants by trade if you had to guess based on their well-worn wagon. The types of folks who don’t spook easily and have traded more than their share of licks with wolves, bears, and even the occasional opportunistic human. A few flintlock rifles lay up against the wagon; most of the men around the fire simply wear knives or, in a couple cases, actual swords. They look up at your group, confusion evident, although they are no superstitious farm-folk to flee at the sight of 6 strangers coming up in the dark, no light sources among any of them. They seem to be prepared for a fight.

“Whatever you’ve got, we are not interested in purchasing, amigos!” One of the men with a sword calls out, hand resting upon the hilt.

As the rest of the group catches up to Vadim, he booms out with that unintelligible accent of his. “Lyudi, lyudi, calm yourselves. We are not selling anything!” You can’t see his facial expression, but from the men’s reaction you can guess it’s probably downright terrifying. Some of them look ready to flee.

As they eye your group, looking for weak links in preparation for what they suspect will be a fight – robbery – it occurs to you that you probably look like that weak link. No sword, ill-fitting boots, and an overcoat, no weapons or armour at all...

>Stand your ground – you know you can shrug off whatever they give you, now. You’re… reasonably sure.

You slowly, carefully move behind the nearest horse, belonging to – Dios it’s that wild-looking one, you still don’t know her name – until you can’t see the men anymore. The woman snorts at your action.

All of a sudden, as Vadim is talking – you can’t quite catch what he’s saying – there’s a CRACK and the men spring into motion as Vadim flinches back, laughing. Well, you’re assuming they do, you can see their feet moving at least.

In any case, the 5 horses surge forward, leaving you awkwardly trying to keep pace and maintain your cover. Covering the remaining few feet shortly, the riders begin assaulting the men through varied means – Vadim with a sword, Benito with some sort of… cane thing, Juanita and the woman with their bare hands as far as you can tell, and while Seraphina doesn’t have a weapon she seems to be snapping necks with her unassisted grip strength just fine.

You can see a few moving back into the treeline away from the horror before them. However, a couple seem to have not forgotten your meekness and are charging right at you, presumably figuring if they can deal with you the rest of the group will hold the attention of the monstruos. They ready a sabre and a dagger, respectively, and they bear down directly at your smaller form.

Your stomach rumbles.

They don’t seem to be buying it.

Amigos! Please!” You snarl at them, fangs bared, already you can taste their- wait. That’s not right.

Well, apparently they didn’t feel that was a trustworthy look. Their faces twist in determined fury. “Monstruo! You will not deceive us!”

They charge up at your position, waving blades, and you step back to get a better stance as– wait, there’s nothing there.

You topple backwards into a hidden ditch, hitting your head hard against a log. The men crest the ditch, momentarily confused: they must not have realized was there either. They don’t waste their good fortune, though, jumping down and viciously hacking at your prone form, their steel glinting in the moonlight.

You can feel the wounds they open closing up slowly as you lie there – this is something that you do instinctively, Juanita explained – but with the closing of each wound you grow hungrier, weaker. They can keep this up for much longer than you can. This is bad. You were trying to avoid a fight, but now- You thirst.

You quickly conclude that the best way for you to get up… is if they’re on the ground first. With an unnatural burst of speed, you lash out with your right leg, knocking them both on their ass as they fumble on top of the dark, uncertain terrain. Carrying through with your momentum, you snap up to a standing position and step back up the slope of the ditch, looking down on their prone forms. Seems like they both fell pretty bad – that log that knocked you for a spell has done a much worse number on them. They’re both down there, bleeding from head wounds, groaning in pain and fear as they struggle to make anything out in the darkness; their blades lay forgotten at their sides.

Your enhanced senses hone in on the pooling blood. Dios you’re hungrier than ever now… they attacked you, tried to kill you… they’re going to die, anyway…

As the last of your wounds close up, it’s all you can do to not dive on the both of them immediately. Your fangs bare and an unnatural, guttural, clicking hiss comes from your throat. They are prey. They did not show you mercy.

Ah, damnit, they’ve ruined your formal coat, too.

>Try to hold off. You can FIGHT this instinct!

You… rein your thirst in. Barely able to take any more, you turn away, back to the pack, and walk with a focused rhythm. Slowly, you feel yourself regain control.

The campsite is covered in blood and gore. Eviscerated, drained bodies litter the ground, some appearing to have their entire torsos crushed. The last few alive are being fed upon by the 5 pack members, their screaming slowly dying off. It seems the pack does not share your views on control.

Finishing up, they slowly scan the site for more and, seeing none, return to their horses. To you. Seeing your wounds, Benito hacks out a laugh. “Juanita, you were right – I should have had more faith. I see he survived.”

Juanita frowns. “He is of my blood, Benito. I choose well.”

“But it was a mass embrace, Juanita!”

The two get into a bickering match as the rest of them mount up and head off, not bothering to wait. After a few more moments, Juanita curses and mounts up, motioning you to follow. You look around, judging if you could maybe make a break for it, but this is the wilderness – you’d get lost immediately. They’d hunt you down and- you shudder. Don’t think about that. Don’t think about that.

The journey continues for the next several hours, until your unnatural senses make out the approach of dawn. Apparently agreeing, the pack heads off the trail to a cave, several minutes into the brush. It is well concealed and they step in, Juanita looking back to ensure you follow before she ducks in.

It’s clearly an unworked natural cave, roughly 20 feet by 20 feet in a rough oval shape. Bones litter the floor and the others prepare their resting areas with varying degrees of care after tying up the horses. Vadim lays out a blanket – the wild woman merely lays down and collapses, unconscious.

>Fetch one of the spare blankets from the saddlebags – you miss the creature comforts of the city.
>Cover up wild crazy lady

You grab a spare blanket from one of the saddlebags – you think it’s Juanita’s, actually – and are about to lay down when you look over to the wild lady on a whim. …Won’t she get cold? Mama always told you to layer up at night, and while you seemed fine last night without any maybe she’d appreciate a helping hand. Couldn’t hurt at least. You cover her up.

You settle down under your comfortable blanket and say a quick prayer, asking for forgiveness for your actions and protection from the unholy evil that surrounds you. Soon, the unnaturally heavy sleep you’ve been told is quite normal takes you.

The booming laughter of Vadim shakes you awake, mingling with your worsening thirst. You’ll have to eat eventually, but- No! No, you can fight this.

In any case, Vadim’s laughter is an interesting distraction from the feelings you're trying to suppress. Interlaced with it you can hear the laughter of a few of the others along with an animalistic, furious snarling. Looking over to the gathered monstruos, you see the wild woman shredding the blanket you gave her with 6-inch claws in place of where her fingers should be, her… displeasure apparent. Dios that’s frightening. The rest of the pack are watching with varying degrees of amusement, although they maintain a respectable distance from her. After a few moments longer, she finishes, and her unholy glowing gaze snaps to you. She seems upset, to say the least. You resist the urge to swallow nervously.

She stalks in your direction, talons trailing nearly at the ground due to her feral gait, and the laughter of the pack seems to grow a tad bit crueler. Juanita doesn’t laugh: she looks worried, at least. Vadim calls out after the woman: “Now, now, Alvilda, try not to kill him! I like him!”

Well, at least you learned her name eventually. You stand up, and

>Run! She looks terrifying!
>Talk her down! You’re good at smoothing things over. Well, except for that one time. And that- no, no, this time will be better.
>You know you can take a hit - those sword wounds were nothing. Use that ‘tough skin’ thing and go blow for blow.

You will your skin to toughen as she rushes you, raising your fists in an awkward, untrained stance. The pack behind her whoops in appreciation, although going by her snarls she barely seems to have noticed.

Dios you’re STARVING now. This is bad, you don’t know if you’ll be able to hold back next time you see someone. But you’ve got to, for your faith. You’ve got to.

As you finish your little mantra, she closes the gap with fast paces and swipes at you.

>Not quite a success

Her swipe comes in at your side, aiming for disembowelment, and you instinctively block with your left forearm as your right fist throws a punch at her head.

The PAIN as her claws dig through your flesh and bone, tearing your arm into strips, is beyond belief. It’s nearly as bad as the branding, except now you don’t have the benefit of being able to focus on the mind and ignore the body. You’re in a fight for your life here.

The claws exit through the other side of your block, having slowed considerably, and just graze your flank. A few lines are opened along your skin and your jacket is further ruined, but considering what happened to your arm that seems negligible, you think as you process all this in that odd, adrenaline-fueled slow motion of a fight.

She seems surprised at having missed her main target and the follow up from her other claw is off-balance, scraping by inches above your shoulder as she ignores your punch entirely.

The punch bounces off her nose ineffectually, not even deflecting it. That hurt your hand a little, actually.

And just like that, your perception of time snaps back to normal as you fall back away from her, cradling your ruined left forearm and looking up at her. She eyes your stumbling form with a leer, seeming to dare you to come back at her.

>Mama didn’t raise no quitter! Go back at her, try that odd, flesh twisty thing. What was it called again?

You meet her gaze and do your best to muster a disapproving look. "La Monstrosa, you would do well not to spurn an earnest attempt at courtesy."

There is silence in the cave afterwards. Neither Alvilda nor the pack seems to have expected that.

After a moment, a familiar booming laugh echoes. “I knew I liked you!” Vadim nearly shouts, the others around him wincing at his shear volume.

After recovering from her surprise, Alvilda gives you one more look with a snarl before reluctantly, slowly nodding over her shoulder at Vadim and stalking off to her horse. That look, though… you don’t think she’ll forget this.

That morbid thought is interrupted as Vadim strides up to you and claps painfully down on your shoulder. He nearly shouts in your face. “My syn, I knew you were an honourable sort! So chivalrous! Why, you’d fit right in back on the homeland.” He strides off confidently, apparently having finished his weird 'pep talk', following Alvilda to the horses with a pleased air about him.

As the remaining two pack members walk to their horses, Juanita walks up to you. She looks nerve-wracked. “Juan! What was that! You could’ve been shredded!” Dios, she really is acting like a mother. She genuinely seems to care. Even if you feel a bit creeped out, though… can you really afford to turn away an ally?

>Brush her off. You don’t need her, and stepping into Mama’s role is just weirding you out.

>Accept her nagging. You need an ally, and it is nice to have feel genuinely cared about.

Despite your reservations… you do feel a blossom of warmth at her words. It’s nice.

As she gives you a motherly smile and turns away, you experience a flash of predatory urges at her exposed neck, but you swiftly quell it. Your THIRST pounds away at the inside of your skull, and now that you aren’t in imminent danger it seems your instincts have decided now is a good time to remind you.

As the convoy returns to the path – Dios these assholes still haven’t mentioned getting you a horse – and sets out, the hours drag by. You don’t meet any more travelers along the path until you crest a hill and find yourselves looking down upon a moderately-sized city. This must be Saltillo! That would mean you’ve come quite a ways west from your town. Saltillo is a larger trading town, being better-situated for the routes running east-west and north-south, and has thousands of residents. Based on the lights and noise, they seem to be having a festival of some kind at the moment.

Vadim inhales deeply and laughs dreadfully. The pack sets off down the hill, approaching the town, and about halfway down you notice a man stumbling along off the side of the path, his gait directing him in a round-a-bout way towards an unlit shack in the distance. Probably a trapper of some kind, and heavily intoxicated at that. These types of folks always- FEED… always…

No, Dios, you’ve got to fight thi- FEED.

You come to off the path, fangs buried in the trapper’s neck as you drain the last of his blood down your throat in exultation. You whip your head back and hiss at the sky, the pack cheering you on from the path with enthusiasm. Your mind suddenly catches up to your body and you freeze, fangs bared, before slowly standing up while you try to regain control.

“Yes, my syn! Accept your nature!” Vadim cries out. Juanita just looks proud – that warm feeling you get at her approval fights with your continued refusal of what you’ve been doing, what you’ve been drinking. You stand up, the corpse motionless at your feet. You walk back to the path without looking back.

At your descent into the city proper, the rush as you feel the last drops of blood trickling down your throat keeps your mind occupied with equal parts ecstasy and disgust.

Just saying, in V:tM if you don't feed you die.

That dude ranting about men and slaves? Childe aren't men, and they're definitely slaves.

Especially Tzimisce.

It's a whole new kind of faggotry is what I'm getting at.

The more people put off feeding, the bloodier and deadlier it's going to be when it happens.

I just want people to be aware of that. Not feeding isn't actually an option in the game.

On the other hand, feeding doesn't have to always result in murder. It's not the end of the world to just feed.

Ironically it's entirely possible to lose more humanity by feeding only when forced to and in a monstrous fashion, than to learn to compromise with the Beast and feed moderately.

>>2995129
The Beast ain't that complex. That's pure Human depersonalization right there.

Well so long as you don't start namefagging yeah I suppose.

That just always seems to be what happens next when people post those things.

Besides, you aren't posting about what was written in their threads. You're posting about your accomplishment reading them.

Worse than namefagging is when people derail by writing walls of text essays of criticism that most players don't actually share.

Just don't be a namefag or an amateur critic who wants to dissect the whole quest instead of having fun in a thread and we'll be cool.

The sights of the city festival are beyond your wildest imaginings. Your lingering negativity is quickly banished by the incredible displays of lights, art, performance, cooking… It’s overwhelming. Merchant wagons laden with exotic goods are shown off by well-traveled man next to a choir loudly singing traditional native songs to the shouting, raucous crowd. On his other side, various delicious-looking foods are being cooked over a campfire and sold by a husband and his wife.

Juanita leans down from her perch to be heard over the din. “The humans have an annual trade festival, here.” You notice that, despite the obvious wonders around them, the pack is barely looking about – their gazes focus on a squat, single-story building at the end of the main street. Could they really be so numb? Juanita does seem to be enjoying the atmosphere at least a little, though. She smiles at you and, despite yourself, you smile back.

It takes nearly half an hour to weave through the boisterous crowd, the pack showing uncharacteristic restraint as they make their way down the path. A great many of those gathered are obviously intoxicated, and as time passes you find yourself… stumbling, a bit, along with them. Your vision slowly blurs over the course of the next few minutes, shapes and colours fading in and out of focus unpredictably. What is this?

Looking back, Juanita laughs jovially. “My childe, maybe next time do not drink from such a borracho!”

…Was that it? Are you drunk? You’ve had a few sips from father’s drinks before, before- Your thought is interrupted as you trip over a piece of wood and you end up facedown in the dirt. Dios, you killed a man not five minutes past, and now his- A stranger pulls you back up – in your state you can’t make out who – and you rush to catch up to the pack, regretful thoughts disrupted. It is SO hard to focus right now.

You arrive at their heels, tripping and cursing as you try to make out a safe footpath, just as they dismount in front of the main building. Looking back to ensure you still follow, the pack enters with Seraphina at the head, Vadim close behind. Holding the door for you, Juanita waves you through and closes the door behind her as you all move through a dim, dank hall towards a blurred, shifting, brown sha- no, wait, that’s just a downwards staircase.

Descending, the others open the door at the bottom and blinding light pours through; in your state it’s simply a blob of colours, shapes, noises, smells… raw sensation. The thought of how you can see smells briefly passes through your addled mind but it’s dismissed as you collapse against a nearby wall, waiting for your perceptions to adjust as you hiss in discomfort.

Over the next several minutes, your gaze slowly adjusts to the scene before you in dynamic patches. It’s… like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It makes the gathering above look like a boring day on Monterrey’s main street.

You spot the pack having split up to mingle among those gathered – they seem to greet them as equals. An eclectic collection of Spaniards, natives, and even foreigners you can’t place is gathered here in varying states of dress, though they are united in their obvious, excessive revelry. They all seem to be… ‘Cainites’ as you’ve learned is the term. Fangs, claws, other evidence of their true form are all in the open, and a great deal of them are covered in blood. Looking around, you – Dios – you see the source of all that blood.

Around the room, hung up on chains, ropes, or even nailed to the walls in a few cases, are… bodies. Dozens of bodies. They moan, scream, fight back, or just hang there defeated. Their open wounds drip blood down onto the floor, where it has gathered at the low points on the floor in great pools being tracked all over by the gathered attendees as they move about.

In a perverse adoption of the scene in the town, displays and art litter the room. Here, though, the main medium seems to be… flesh. Living, breathing sculptures twisted in horrific shapes moan in pain, their eyes panicky as they twitch pathetically. Large paintings done in blood cover the walls, the canvas some kind of unfamiliar leather. And, as you take in the scene as a whole, you notice that some of the moaning and shrieking is… melodic, almost. Looking over at a group of 5 people nailed to and hanging from wooden scaffolding, you see them being conducted by a madly grinning senior man.

You rapidly try the door behind you in a moment of panic, but find it locked. After a brief spell of indecisive wide-eyed searching, you decide to try to remain on the edges and simply observe; the pounding incoherence of your brain right now tells you that anything else could be unwise. You try not to think about the bodies – your inebriation helps, actually, in that respect.

Looking through the crowd takes much longer than it would normally, given your frequent urges to avert your gaze, but after about- some amount of time, you can’t really tell, you’ve managed to pick out one person who does stand out from the crowd.

>>2998373
While most of those gathered, like the ‘pack’ you came with, seem to stick to their groups, there is a dark-haired, pale woman who weaves between the cliques, speaking with them all in a manner that suggests they respect her authority. After talking with most of those here she steps up onto a short, simple stage set up at one end of the room. The 3-foot increase places her with a commanding view of the room, despite her modest height. She shouts out to be heard over the mixture of festivities and screaming.

“Thank you, thank you! For recognizing and attending my baño de sangre! I hope you are enjoying the offerings?”

She grins cruelly as the gathering rumbles with malicious laughter.

“Well then! Let it not be said I waste time with speeches. Let us BEGIN!”

At this last word you feel your emotions swelling despite yourself, feral excitement and that… animalistic instinct battering past your intoxicated consciousness. You raise your head and hiss loudly, fangs bared, joining in with the crowd, raw unfiltered emotion hammering through your mind.

It’s one of the last things you recall.

The remainder of the night is a blur. There are snapshots of coherence… All those gathered dripping their own blood into a metallic basin… Yourself doing the same… Your cheeks flash red as you remember that lady stripping down and sinking into the pool of blood. Then, then… you all drank… you think? A vibrant image of her face smiling at you from not a foot away as you dip your lips to the blood flashes through your head. Yes, you definitely drank.

After that last view of the smiling, comforting, warm, and unfamiliar face your recollection gets a lot more sporadic.

Bodies, shredded and drained, lay before you as blood pours down your shrieking maw.

A fanged horror stands across from you, 10 feet tall with digigrade legs and horrific, bloody spikes unevenly covering its form. You shout out a challenge and charge it barehanded to the joy of the hooting crowd.

The townspeople yelling in terror as you tear through them with your comrades, insane laughter coming from somewhere nearby.

The last memory you have is just howling madly at the night sky as the town lays in ruins around you, the welcome scents of blood and gore invading your enhanced nostrils.

You snap awake. Dios, did that all really happen? The images run through your mind, fading gradually, as you take in your surroundings. You seem to be buried underneath a pile of earth and debris. Blood heavily stains the debris and your – hey, your forearm is better, at least – your arms, soaking into the dirt beneath you. No light trickles through – it’s impossible to tell what time it is.

Just as the blood soaks into the ground, the images soak into your mind. You feel sick recalling them. Yet… you also feel different, somehow. You can’t quite place it. It’s a comforting feeling, at least. Like a warm blanket, but it almost feels… spiritual? Like how Father Alberto made you feel after a particularly fiery sermon, on one of his good days. One of the days where nobody laughed.

In any case, you need to figure out what in God’s name is going on. Where even are you? You shrug the thoughts off and push up against the debris, trying to get free.

Strength surges through your arms as you push upwards, straining to be free. The refuse creaks and groans as you slowly, deliberately force it out of the way, unnatural power far beyond your flesh’s abilities put to work. Finally, you make enough of a gap to actually stand up and out of the pile of rubble and look around in the darkness of the early evening. It’s apparent that you haven’t left Saltillo, at least.

Or rather, you haven’t left the ruins of Saltillo.

In stark, morbid contrast to the vibrancy of last night, the town is a memory. Any standing structures have been knocked down and, in most cases, ripped apart even beyond that. Everything has been levelled to the point that, standing on top of the remains of the building you were under, you can easily see almost the entire town.

Littering the scattered debris are bodies. So many bodies. By the sheer volume – you wouldn’t even attempt to actually count – it looks to be the majority of those who were here at the festival, if not all of them. Their state matches that of the buildings they surround; shredded with clear, vicious passion: most are missing limbs, and in some cases entire torsos.

You look around, feeling nauseous, as the memories of the previous night come to the forefront of your mind. You… did this, or helped, at least. You enjoyed it. The memory of joy sickly complements your disgust, two aspects of your being at odds with each other.

You stand in the pitch darkness for some time, internal battle raging, before other rubble begins to shift with your fellow vampires’ stirring. Just next to you, you notice Vadim clawing his way free with his typical vigour. Gore paints his entire bare upper torso. He grins seeing you, and you feel your mood improving despite yourself, just at the sight of his merriment.

“Juan! My syn, what a night! You made quite the impression with that stunt with Zlatana!”

Looking down, you notice your clothing is gone but for the shredded remains of your sack pants. Your sabre is nowhere to be found, either.

And... something about your face feels different.

You notice Juanita pulling herself free with some difficulty nearby.

From an increasingly isolated, unimportant part of your mind your human, weak conscience dwells on how this town could easily have been Monterrey, about how many are dead, about- Well, that’s hardly bothering you right now, anyway, as you:

>Talk with Vadim. You want to find out what actually happened, and you find his company a lot more pleasant than you did before, for whatever reason...

The rest seems divided. I guess Juan will walk and talk with Vadim while he looks around after checking out his face.

>Multitasking ho!

You nod at Vadim distractedly, running your hands over your face. There seem to be odd… ridges, of some kind, at the crests of your cheekbones. They’re very sharp – you nearly cut your hand one one of them. Some kind of bone crests? How on earth did that happen?

In any case, you need to find some clothes. Preferably your sabre, too. You nod at Vadim as you hop down and begin scouring the area. “Uh, yeah, that… stunt. How did that happen, again?”

There doesn’t appear to be any clothes that fit you in the immediate area, and while a few of the folk seem to have attempted to defend themselves with crude wooden spears you tore right through them they’re hardly a replacement for your – well, that guard’s, yours now – your fine steel blade.

Vadim guffaws. “My, my, don’t quite remember it, eh? I understand the ritae can be overwhelming, your first time, but I thought you- Ah, yes, the drunkard! Right! That explains quite a bit.” His laugh dies down into a chuckle. “You charged right at it! I think it was a bit taken off guard, to be honest, though after it had removed your legs and you continued regardless it was very impressed. As was I!”

Searching a larger and larger area, you eventually do find a pair of pants and a jacket belonging to a… merchant, you think. Most of the shredding is confined to the front of his upper torso and so the clothing is actually in fairly good shape, if soaked in blood. You throw on the brown, wool-spun garments, trying to ignore the nightmarish gaze of his melted, ruined eyes. That was you. You did that. You’re getting better.

You continue searching, determined to find your sword, while you carry on with Vadim. “Uh… what is ‘it’, exactly?”

He looks shocked, though still cheerful. “Well, I would’ve thought you’d remember that, at least. A Zulo beast? Twice your size, very terrifying? No? Nothing?”

Ah, so that… ‘thing’ was Zlatana. If it removed your legs… maybe you should avoid it. You seem to be fine now, at least.

A crash behind you tells you that, after a few minutes of struggling, Juanita has finally managed to free herself. Around you, activity is picking up as the rest of the attendees are similarly pushing aside their coverings with varying degrees of ease. You’ve almost stopped being unnerved by the sheer number of corpses, though now that everyone’s moving it’s starting to freak you out again. You try to put that thought aside.

>Keep looking. You WILL find that sabre.
>Quick – you’ve got to dig as much information as you can from Vadim before everyone’s around you, talking about what happened. If you’re as popular as Vadim seems to think you are… that could be awkward.

Your thoughts focus on the sword. Damnit, you can make it through a few weird interactions if you have to, Dios knows you survived your share of family gatherings, but that sabre is your possession.

You stalk away from a bemused Vadim, enhanced vision leaving no stone – in this, case, no body – unturned. You move about with urgency, doing your best to avoid the rousing monstruos but not going out of your way if you can’t avoid it. They seem more welcoming than they were last night, anyway. A few even smile at you excitedly. You return the courtesy by force of habit, the strangeness of the situation not even registering, as you dig through piles of wood and stone.

All of a sudden, grim inspiration strikes you. If you truly were attacking these people… the sword is likely to be found somewhere in the piles of bodies, not in the rubble. You abruptly turn back from the relatively sparse outskirts you had been digging through back to the main path through the town.

The next quarter-hour is spent digging through piles of bodies, your numbness to this destruction increasing with every body you overturn, every pile you shove over, driven, looking for the telltale metallic glint.

Finally, buried to the hilt in a group of slain merchants with suspiciously-even-looking cuts across their bodies, you see your sword. Reaching down, your fingers wrap around the hilt and you pull. It holds fast – whoever… rammed this in must have been considerably stronger than you are right now. You increase the force behind your grip, leaning back to use your weight, feeling blood rush to your muscles in an instinctive action that you are increasingly beginning to recognize and control.

It holds, it holds, it holds… it gives. You abruptly fall on your back, surprised, as you overcome the friction that had been holding it in. You grin, having recovered your most valuable – personally and in terms of money – belonging.

You look up, now ready to do… whatever it was you were going to do afterwards, you hadn’t really thought that far ahead, when you notice the bodies are no longer on the ground.

They stand tall, hateful and accusatory eyes boring into you, their forms wispy and immaterial. As one, they howl in truly inhuman anguish and rush you, arms outstretched, clearly aiming to-

They’re gone. The bodies are back on the ground. They’re staying there, not moving, as if that had never happened. You look about, frantic, before standing up and stumbling off to find the rest of the group, trying not to focus on the flitting shadows you see on the edge of your vision.

>Wrapping up for the night here – should pick up tomorrow at a bit better pace barring any interruptions.

>Surprise daytime post because I can

You half-stagger, half-run back to the noisy main street where the 'Cainites' seem to be discussing something. What... was that? Father Alberto has spoken of ghosts, of the beyond, but to actually see it is something else entirely.

You suppose it's a bit odd to be frightened given your current state as a "creature of the night", as he'd put it, but still! They died! Their ethereal forms came after you, just like in the stories! Perhaps there's more truth there than you'd initially given the pastor credit for. You reflexively grip your sabre tighter, taking comfort from the cold, deadly steel. Still, it's all you can do to not jump every time a shadow flickers.

Despite yourself, you relax a bit at the site of the rest of the group. Something nags at you, like a half-forgotten memory, but you dismiss it, noticing Juanita nearby and deciding to go over to speak with her and determine what's going on.

She smiles broadly, and a matching warmth blossoms in your chest instinctively. Dios, how could you have doubted any of them? These are your brethren. "Juan! I see you found that blade of yours!"

You nod, trying not to dwell on where you found it or the events immediately following its removal. Though strangely... it's the ghosts that really threw you off. The bodies - well its hard to explain. You remember them! You aren't some monster who doesn't even register death! It just... doesn't seem to be bothering you the way it did. Odd.

Your musings are interrupted as the woman in charge from last night, the 'bathing in a pool of blood' one, walks towards a ramshackle stage pulled together. It looks like she's going to address the gathered Sabbat again - based on her pace, you've not got much time to speak with Juanita before she starts.

You've got to find out more about what happened. All you know for sure right now is that you drank from a pool of blood, fought some freakish 10 foot monster called Zlatana, and killed a bunch of people. That... sounds crazier than it actually feels, for whatever reason.

You smile at Juanita, intending nothing more than a polite gesture, but with the warmth in your chest it actually comes out very genuinely. It's a nice feeling. Strange, but nice.

"Yes, it was- well, I found it, in any case." Suddenly feeling like you can trust her, actually, you decide to save time and confide in her, your voice shrinking to a whisper. "I don't quite... remember all of what happened. Could you fill me in, Juanita?"

She smiles warmly and touches your arm. "My childe, of course. I remember how overwhelming it can be, at first. Let's see..." She hums and taps her chin. Dried blood lingers upon her lower jaw, momentarily distracting you. "We performed the Bath of Blood ritae for Madame Florinda, she's the new- well, you'll see, she'll probably go over it now. Anyway, after that we had the traditional festival games, hunting, displays of skill, a bit of ritual combat, only for show, nothing real - I recall you fought Zlatana despite everyone's advice, you showed quite a bit of perseverance there - then afterwards we, uh, destroyed Saltillo, of course." She gestures around her as she finishes. Her tone doesn't seem to be wavering quite as much as it was on the trip here. She seems relaxed. It makes you relaxed, too.

Florinda - you gather that's her name - has ascended the stage and is looking over the crowd. You've got only seconds before she starts, likely.

>Just enjoy the company of your Sire for a moment while waiting for whatever this is to begin.

You nod as Juanita finishes. “I see. Thank you, Juanita.” You smile at her. She smiles back. It’s reassuring, a grounding – if simple – moment among everything that’s going on. You can tell that, no matter what, she’ll have your back. You just know it. Before you were feeling a bit out of your depth, but… no, you think you can handle this now. Whatever it is.

As Florinda clears her throat you both turn back to face her. You notice the rest of Juanita’s pack has arisen, scattered around the crowd, and it seems that most of the Cainites have managed to free themselves by now – only a couple piles are still being disturbed from within. A few are directing amused glances to those, as if wondering at who could be so weak as to be defeated by wooden debris for so long.

Florinda clears her throat again, finally dragging everyone’s attention to her. Her impossibly black dress seems to not have been disturbed by last night’s events whatsoever. She wears an insane grin completely at odds with the rest of her calm body language as she raises her arms to the sky and gestures at the destruction surrounding her.

Fellow Cainites, I thank you once again for attending my ordination! I reaffirm my promise to serve the Sword faithfully as the latest addition to the holy ranks of our Arzobispos!

The crowd cheers at that, and you instinctively join in, feeling swept up in the collective emotion. Enjoying the reaction, she waits for the exclamations to die down. She nearly starts several times, interrupted over by intermittent whoops, before finally glaring at one of the groups at the front. The shouts die off immediately. She continues.

I trust you enjoyed our celebration here?” Again, the crowd shouts, with yourself joining in again. You feel excited, you just can’t help it! This ‘Sword’ thing, you can tell it’s the right way to go. Whatever it is.

I’m glad you did! I have further good news: while undoubtedly serving as a reminder of the Cainite supremacy over… humans… it served a secondary purpose. This was also a decisive victory over the Camarilla!

This is met with hisses of disgust. She laughs.

Yes, yes, THAT Camarilla! With the main population centre in the region decimated, their lying, puppeteering ways will fail them should they try to retake this area from our cold, dead grasp. They’ll have to fight us cainite to cainite – and we all know how that would go for them, I think.

The crowd laughs menacingly, a few of those gathered nudging each other and whispering.

THIS is the kind of action you can expect at my direction! Brutal violence and crushing victory, ALL at once! We do not need to decide, as some of our more cautious comrades may advise, between our nature and our goals. I declare tonight – we will achieve BOTH!

At each punctuated word, you and the crowd cheer as if prompted. This increases in volume and passion each time until, at the end of her proclamation, the cheers and monstrous shrieking last for nearly a minute. This time, she makes no effort to cut you and yours short.

And, I am pleased to declare, we have 4 new True Members of the Sabbat who have joined our ranks! Such is their devotion that they have agreed to PERSONALLY support our push north, led by our very own Amuniritis! She has recognized the importance of the continued growth of our sect and has agreed to temporarily take them under her wing. Her brethren among the Blood Crystals will anxiously await her return, I’m sure.” At this, Florinda pouts mockingly and the crowd jeer, though you don’t feel any malicious intent among them as you join in.

3 people step forward from the crowd and, after a moment, everyone’s gaze turns to you. Wait… did YOU agree to that too? You’ve never been more than 10 miles further north than here! Mierda. You really should’ve figured this out beforehand.

>Step forward confidently. These people don’t seem to appreciate weakness.
>Step forward normally. They might know if you’re faking confidence.

>Step forward normally. They might know if you’re faking confidence.

Taking a deep breath – though you've learned it serves no physical purpose, it’s still calming – you step forward, walking up until you’re directly next to the other three Cainites who are presumably as new to... this, as yourself. You look down the line at them as they stare at you, sizing you up. You feel that subtle, subconscious kinship with them, but even so they are an eclectic bunch.

A savage-looking native woman is immediately to your right; she must be from one of the few groups that have not been touched by the Spaniards’ colonization over the past century or so. Bloodstained leather and wool covers her form, wild hair pushed behind her ears. Contrasting with her untamed appearance, though, a fierce intelligence burns behind her gaze.

To her right, a foppish-looking man stands, clearly European in origin, wearing the clothes and demeanour of a merchant. Beyond that, though, you can’t place his background. He looks about distractedly, already seeming to have grown bored of you, humming to himself.

The last of them is a hunched-back cripple, no more than four feet tall at the top of his head, staring at you with wide eyes. His thin, wavy hair tops his head sporadically – if you had to guess, he’s seen at least 60 summers already. He looks about frantically, only making eye contact once every few seconds. Something about him just seems… off. You can’t figure it out, though.

After looking over each other, your strange group looks back expectantly at Florinda. She gestures at a figure emerging from the crowd – a foreign woman, wearing exotic-looking wrappings and with a razor-straight posture. She stops in front of the Archbishop and bows slightly before speaking, her accent as unfamiliar as her looks. “I will forge them into something greater, Lady de las Quintanillas. The Sword will be stronger for their presence by the time I am finished.”

Florinda smiles like a manic child at her words. “I would expect nothing less from you, Amuniritis.” She looks back out across the gathering and raises her voice. “And with these good tidings, I formally conclude the ritae! Go forth all with the blessing of the Sword of Caine – you know your duties. Remember – each night we come closer to VICTORY!”

There is one final chorus of shouting at her words before everyone begins milling about, meeting up with their fellow packs, which is what you now realize these groups must be, preparing to depart. From the placement of the moon in the sky, it is roughly midnight – plenty of night left to accomplish their goals, you think with a smile. The thought fills you with satisfaction, for some reason.

Amuniritis looks at the four of you with an expectant gaze.

>Say nothing.

>What are we doing, exactly?

Dios, you’ve already been thrown off guard once by not asking enough questions – it won’t happen again. You speak up.

“What are we to be doing, exactly, Amuni…ritis?” You definitely messed up that name. Something about the emphasis – it’s all wrong.

She looks at you stoically. “A fair question, Juan Emanuel Collazo. You heard the Archbishop – you are all new to the Sword, although apparently you show some promise of value.” Based on her tone, you’re not entirely sure she agrees. “To test your mettle, loyalty, and skill, I will be leading you north, following the Camarillan retreat, nipping at their heels all the way. Depending on how you all do, I may determine you to be worthy, full-blooded members of the Sabbat and depart, leaving you as an independent pack. I may determine… otherwise. Time will tell.”

She looks around, as if daring the others to bother her with anything, before turning away. “Meet me beneath the remnants of the main building in 15 minutes.” And with that she walks off, stepping over the bodies in her path like they don’t even register, moving back into the crowd. You half-heartedly try to keep track of her, but there are over 4 dozen cainites, it’s dark – it’s impossible. She’s disappeared.

You look back at the other 3, wondering what they’re doing, when you notice the native woman is nowhere to be found. The merchant-looking fellow is just staring up at the moon, and the creepy older man is trying to hide in the middle of a crowd. He’s doing quite poorly at it.

…Are these really who you’re supposed to travel with?

Well, you have 15 minutes, apparently. You’ve got a roughly accurate internal measure of time – should be good enough.

You walk around, looking for where you saw Juanita last. It doesn’t take long to find her, thankfully, and she smiles broadly as she sees you.

“Juan! I am so proud! You will bring my line honour, renown with your actions up north, I’m sure.”

You return her smile, mood improving tremendously from the dip it had taken at meeting your… ‘packmates’? If that’s the term? You nod respectfully.

“Thank you, Juanita, Sire. Any advice? You’re my… well, I feel like you know more than me.”

At that she starts, like she had just forgotten something. “Ah! Yes!” She pulls a bag out from her robes and hands it to you. The contents feel soft. “You will need this to rest, my childe. I kind of… glossed over it, but our kind need the earth of our home beneath us each night.”

You look in the bag – sure enough, it’s… dirt. A bag of dirt. You give her a questioning look, and she laughs.

“I swear, Juan, I am being quite serious. You will see the need when you get further away, in any case. Even if you find it odd… keep it, for me?” At her sympathetic smile your reservations melt. You take the bag and… well, you don’t have pockets, really. You hold it in your other hand, the one not hanging on to the sabre – you’ve really got to find a better manner of carrying things. You’ve got all of two possessions and you’re already out of room.

Another thing, you think – what is this ‘Camarilla’ you’ll be fighting? You ask her as much and she gives a zealous, feral grin.

“The Camarilla are the pawns of the elders, Juan. They dance to a tune they can’t even hear and they kill you if you point it out. It is an honour to be among those tasked with hunting them down and ending their failure of an existence. If they have one strength, it is their mortal servants – they have a great many of them. Watch for those, and you will have nothing to fear.”

Well, that was unusually animated for Juanita. She must really hate them. You’ve hardly got time to dig into that right now, though. Ah, yes! As your sire, she might know about-

“What are these… things on my cheeks, Juanita?”

She looks at you, shocked. “You really remember very little, hmm, Juan.” Her tone is teasing. “Zlatana gave you those in recognition of your determination. They are good luck in its culture, you know. It doesn’t gift those on just anyone, you know.” Honour it may be, but they’re damned annoying in practice, you think. You’ll definitely cut yourself on them at least a few more times before you get used to them.

>>
>>3002805
However, on a more frightening note, there was… one more thing you had thought to ask her about. A flicking in the corner of your eye reminds you. You lean in, whispering.

“Juanita… is it normal to see… ghosts? Wispy forms?”

She looks at you, concerned. “Juan… No, that is not normal. When did you see these forms?”

Your eyes dart to the side as motion instinctively draws them away. When your gaze returns to her, Juanita looks even more worried. “Um. Currently?”

She places a hand on either side of your head, looking you in the eyes. “Many strange things can happen for a new Cainite who has received the gift in the mass embrace, Juan. I would not worry too much. Perhaps give it a few nights. See how it progresses.” She offers a sympathetic smile, though after a moment her visage turns serious. “One more thing, Juan… That Amunirits… She is merciless. Do not trust her.”

Like a fire flickering back to life, her smile returns. “But if you do well you will have nothing to worry about, I’m sure.” After a moment of hesitation, looking to see if anyone around is watching, she darts up and kisses you briefly on the forehead. It reminds you of mama.

What with tracking her down and the conversation, you’re pretty sure you’ve got to get over to the building pretty quick.

“Juanita, I’ve gotta go, now – I’ll see you again when I return. Honour and renown, and all that.”

She waves you off and you start heading off back to the main building. The shadows at the edges of your vision are both more and less concerning, now. Juanita thought it might die down soon, but… she also said it was definitely not normal. You put it off for now – you’ve got to get ready to meet that apparently-terrifying woman for… whatever she has planned.

On your way over, you half-heartedly look for clothing – what you’re currently wearing is REALLY not what you’d want to be seen in in public. To your surprise and pleasure, there’s actually a fairly-intact man with a sword belt and intact, clean jacket on!

Thanking your good luck, you shrug out of your old coat and put on the new one, tightening the sword belt as well and sliding your sabre in. You’ve got a free hand now!

Feeling much better about your clothing, you go over to the main building when you realize… it is destroyed, like all the others. How are you supposed to hold a meeting here?

>You know… the gathering was underground. Try to uncover the staircase and head down there.

You know, the gathering was underground, really. Maybe that’s what that stony-faced woman meant? You were supposed to figure this out as some kind of test? Ah, that must be it.

You maneuver across the rubble to the approximate place under which the stairwell should be, based on your admittedly-spotty recollection, and to your satisfaction note that it’s already been uncovered. You knew you were onto something!

You carefully step over the stone, wood, and… flesh debris that litters the downwards steps – more of a slope by now, really – moving through the door at the bottom that hangs open on just one hinge.

The interior of the underground chamber is much as you remember it, minus the 50 or so vampires that have left. Blood, gory artwork, bodies, and general viscera cover most of the floor and walls. Some of the roof too, even.

Your gaze skims over the depraved scene, unperturbed. At the end, on the stage, stands Amuniritis. Yes! You’re the first one here, it looks like.

You walk over to her and, as she notices you, she gestures dismissively for you to join her atop the wooden construction. You stand to her right and, opening your mouth to ask what the purpose of the meeting is, she raises a finger. “No.”

You shut your mouth.

You’re waiting for nearly half an hour before the rest of your group finishes joining you. The savage woman joins not too late after you, and the foppish merchant in turn not long after her. The cripple is last, arriving significantly late with a crash as he… you think he falls down the stairwell? He runs through the door in a panic. Stammering apologies, he awkwardly climbs up the front of the stage with a total lack of athleticism or strength. After a truly uncomfortable 20 seconds, he finally finishes his ascent and stands in the remaining empty spot in the loose circle your packmates and Amuniritis are forming.
>>
Rolled 3, 7, 3, 6 = 19 (4d10)

Amuniritis looks mildly more annoyed than usual as she begins speaking in a practiced tone.

“This night marks the beginning of your new lives as a pack. From this point forward, your existences have one purpose – furthering the goals of the Sword of Caine. You will fight for the Sword. You will kill for the Sword. You will investigate, insinuate, lie, steal, manipulate for the Sword. And one day, like us all, you will die for the Sword.”

She surveys the group, testing the reaction to her words. You recognize the seriousness of her words, and a small part of you wonders if you’re really capable of all that. Overwhelming that, though, is a swelling feeling of pride and purpose. You can accomplish this. Your packmates seems to feel the same way based on their body language, although the cripple looks as terrified as always.

Amuniritis’ annoyance seems to abate somewhat as she continues with a pledge.

“I am Amuniritis, and I will fight for the Sword of Caine in all things.”

She looks to the savage woman, standing to her left, who seems to get the hint.

“I am Renata, and I will fight for the Sword of Caine in all things.”

The foppish man takes a moment to notice the attention directed his way, but he follows suit in a foreign accent.

“I am Lochlan, and I will fight for the Sword of Caine in all things.”

The cripple’s voice is exactly as wavering and uncertain as you expected.

“I a-a-am Mateo, and I will fight for the S-S-S-Sword of Caine in all things.”

Finally, it is your turn. Without thinking, you speak up with a rush of devotion and pride flooding your mind suddenly, as if put there by an external force.

“I am Juan, and I will fight for the Sword of Caine in all things.”

At each pledge, the individual has bitten their wrist open and poured some blood into a wood bowl set into the stage. As you contribute the final drop, not troubled by this unholiness whatsoever, the growing pool changes shade suddenly and slowly seems to pour… upwards… towards you. Transfixed by the sight, it almost feels like it forces your mouth open as it drips down your throat. The feeling is exultant.

You can feel every ecstatic drop of the mixture as it drips down your throat, and ride the powerful high as Amuniritis continues in a more detailed, formal sermon on the Sabbat. Much of what she’s said was covered by Vadim’s half-ranting/half-preaching several nights ago while they were preparing to brand you. You now understand now that the pain was necessary to christen you as a ‘True’ Sabbat. It makes perfect sense to you.

Much of her sermon is new, though. It focuses a great deal more on practical and tactical information. It goes over this ‘Camarilla’ who are the rivals of the Sabbat, you’ve intuited, as well an unfamiliar sect called the ‘Anarchs’.

She goes over the hierarchies of all 3 sects, their operating tactics, and how best to attack them. You notice that, oddly, the Sabbat are not excluded from this last point.

She continues with general information on the Cainites and, specifically, each ‘clan’ – just like you are a shimizee (Dios, you’ll get that right eventually) – others have differing backgrounds, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Each clan normally has their own sect association across the whole group, apparently, though there are exceptions.

Throughout it all, she reiterates the importance of information for successfully overthrowing the Camarilla. She stares at each of you in turn. “A blind attack is just as likely to see you dead as not, and to die without purpose is to fail the Sword.” Along with your packmates, your new familia, you nod along with each point she makes. The nods are so similar they nearly look synchronized. The thought barely registers.

Finally, long after you’ve lost track of time, she abruptly stops mid-sentence. “It is time to retire for the day. We depart on the next eve.”

You find that you agree completely. Along with your pack, you move about the chamber, searching for a spot to rest for the day. You nearly just lie down on the bare, blood-soaked dirt before you remember your actions in the cave. You like the civilized comforts, right. Funny that you forgot that…

You lie down on a mostly-intact blanket you found, and as you fade into unconsciousness your thoughts dwell on:

>The powers of the blood you’ve exhibited so far. What a blessing this is, you recognize that now.
>The spiritual importance of your upcoming task. You feel assured in the righteousness of your mission.
>Your actions in Monterrey. With the knowledge you have now, you recognize that what you did on instinct was nothing less than the Amaranth.

>The knowledge you’ve gained tonight. If you’re to succeed, you’ll need to absorb everything you can.

You think on what you’ve learned. The strengths, weaknesses, tactics, histories of the sects, clans, bloodlines… it’s dizzying. Knowing what you know, feeling how you feel, it’s incredible to you that there are those who would oppose the elders. Can’t they see the corruption, the stagnation they support?

A small, weak part of your mind thinks to your old familia. They’re back in Monterrey. How are they doing without you? Did Miguel make it out of the manse alright? It’s quickly brushed aside with thoughts of your mission, your meaning, your pack.

As you dwell on the perverse lore, your mind goes back to the spirits you’ve been seeing. That kind of sight is within the power of some Cainites, notably the Giovanni, but definitely not Tzimisce. A memory of Salvador’s lurches unbidden through your mind.

These bastard Necromancers have been bothering your Sire’s city for years now. Tonight, that will finally be put to an end. Your master, having learned of one of their bases of operation, has entrusted you with leading the first wave to clear the rats out. A small part of your mind wonders at why she assigned you to lead a combat – you’re more of an administrator, really – but it’s brushed away. She knows what she’s doing. Your lead ghoul kicks down the door, shouting as he-

Dios, this is turning out bloody. The Necromancers knew you were coming, evidently, and have trapped almost the entire grounds – it’s just you and your bodyguards left, now, though you’ve managed to back the last one and his retainers into a room with just one exit. Preparing the final charge, you raise your sword and-

It’s over. It’s finally over. It cost you all your men and your left arm, but they’ve been purged. The final one lies in front of you, staked, body shredded with sword blows. Suddenly, a flash of brilliance strikes you – you need this man’s information. You could interrogate him. Or…

Salvador’s fangs bare as he lunges down at the Giovanni neonate, draining both his vitae and his soul.

>>
>>3009115
Your eyes snap open with the new sunset. Around you, you hear the waking sounds of your packmates.

Well, that… that explains the visions. Dios, Giovanni do not usually appreciate their secrets being shared, as you’ve learned. Perhaps there’s a reason Salvador was left behind with only a few guards as the Sabbat advanced. You’re… starting to realize, with the patchwork picture provided by his memories and your new knowledge, that he was not the most capable Cainite. Hot rage not entirely your own rushes through your body, departing as suddenly as it arrived. Of course not, he was a fucking Camarilla pawn. You shake it off.

Few words are exchanged as the pack prepares to depart, and having no possessions except for your sword, dirt bag, and the clothes on your back you are ready to go almost immediately.

As you all head out north on foot through the town, you notice the debris has been spread around even more, deliberately making it difficult to tell where the town’s structures even were in the first place. Anyone rebuilding here will likely have to make whole new foundations, or dedicate considerable effort locating the old ones.

Even as you make it past the boundaries of the town, silence weighs down the group. You suspect the rest are thinking on the events of last night, and the pack as a whole. Amuniritis preaches understanding, after all.

You walk throughout the night along the path, eventually stopping at a barren cave similar to the one used by Juanita’s pack a few nights past. You… feel like you’ve probably done enough thinking on things, no matter what Amuniritis says about no amount of preparation being too much. You understand her teachings well - you’re pretty sure, at least.

In any case, you spend the silent walk

>Practicing with the natural abilities of your blood. You’ll need their strength to overcome the Camarilla and support your pack.

When we split off, then would be the time to invest heavily in necromancy.

>Practicing with the natural abilities of your blood. You’ll need their strength to overcome the Camarilla and support your pack.

You resolve to practice your abilities. Through your blood, you will have the power you need to achieve victory.

That… ‘animal talking’ thing, you weren’t able to work that out before Saltillo, but after hours of focusing and staring at surrounding birds, rodents, and whatever happens to be nearby you finally get the hang of it. Rodents and birds don’t have anything particularly interesting to say, you learn.

At the cave, Amuniritis continues the speech she had cut short in Saltillo. Tonight, she seems to focus on the spiritual significance of the ritae of the Sabbat, their various purposes, and the means of conducting them. Blood baths, Palla Grande, Binding, Blood Feasts, Monomancy, Instinct Games, the list goes on and on and… there are quite a few.

This pattern continues for over a week, walking all night – though not always in silence – and finding a cave for the day. You realize that there must be a network of these caves all across the country, for them to move about as such.

Amuniritis’ sermons continue, covering more detailed summaries about the Camarilla’s defenses, history lessons, even something you find rather unsettling called ‘Paths of Enlightenment’. As she talks, you find yourself more and more realizing what a boon she is to you. To the pack. Her knowledge is clearly vast, and she seems to be sharing it truly for the good of the sect.

You learn more about your packmates, as well. Renata is from further south originally, and was indeed from a remote tribe before her induction, serving her tribe as a hunter. Lochlan is from somewhere called ‘England’, and is truly incapable of shutting up if he is prompted about art, music, or anything of the sort. Mateo is from the grand Mexico City, and was apparently born with his crippling condition. He doesn’t seem to like to talk much about it.

There’s no way you’ll remember all of this – Dios, you’re hardly a scholar, you can’t even read – but it does feel like it’s sinking in. Over the week, you make use of the time by

>Further developing the innate abilities of your clan - the Tzimisce.
>Taking time to delve through Salvador’s memories and learn more about the abilities of the Necromancers.
>Finding an animal to… give blood to? Amuniritis mentioned one night that this would create a ‘ghoul’ – something that is apparently quite common and useful. You did just figure out how to talk to them, after all.

You feel like understanding the core traits of your new blood is key. As Amuniritis explains it, all the control that you have is built on this base. You, along with the rest of the pack, follow her advice.

As you don’t exactly have a… target for that horrific flesh-moving thing you’ve done before – Dios knows you’re not sure your control is good enough to try on yourself – you work instead of the other two abilities you’ve been told should come naturally: sharp senses, and communicating with animals.

By the time the week comes to a close, you’re just barely able to summon an animal from your immediate location – you don’t quite have a hang of it, though, and sometimes you end up getting the animal wrong.

You’ve also found that you can get… ‘impressions’ from the people around you. It’s hard to explain. You have to really focus, too. Still, you do feel somewhat proud of the progress you’ve made.

Your packmates are improving, too. Renata seems to be unseen more often than not, Lochlan is doing… well, something, he seems pleased, and Mateo is just… running around. He looks faster by the end of the week, though. He’s a little odd.

Your hunger growing and growing, you wonder how much longer this must go on before finally, the rhythm comes to an end just before midnight one day. It interrupts you practicing talking to the birds. Amuniritis brings the group to a stop, and turns around. “Just ahead is a forward post for the Camarilla’s stronghold further north. We will destroy it, for the Sword of Caine. Ideally, no word will escape of our actions.”

She gestures towards the path ahead. “I will not be participating. Consider this a chance to prove your value.” She looks at each of you in turn before stepping to the side of the path. She seems to expect the four of you to carry on without her. Your pack looks at each other, trying to decide on a plan.

>We will carry on down the path together, as a group! Nothing they can throw at us will could overcome us when we work together!
>We will sneak through the forest! They will not see us coming.
>Some of us will sneak through, and some of us will be on the path. It’s the best of both worlds!

They look between each other, then you, and shrug. You all head off the path and begin traveling parallel to it from a respectable distance, hidden in the brush.

>They do see you coming, actually

You continue on through the forest for several miles, cursing quietly: there always seems to be vegetation RIGHT where you want to place your feet. It’s annoying, and moving with any degree of speed at all takes up almost all of your attention. You’re so caught up in your rudimentary pathfinding that you don’t even notice when the forest breaks out into a clearing until you’ve already stepped into it. You look up in surprise, and see a small, fortified, wooden building in the center of the clearing about 100 feet away, overlooking the path below. A ditch surrounds it except for one entrance point, and the planks making up its squat, one-story frame look sturdy.

A guard posted at the front seems to have noticed the motion, despite the distance and darkness, and jumps out of his chair by the ditch and runs inside, shouting commandingly. “Mierda.” Lochland and Mateo, having followed you into the clearing, snort. Lochland speaks up. “Nice job, native. I think I’ll do things my own way from here.” With that, he takes off running for the structure. Mateo looks back at you, hesitating, before awkwardly running off behind him in a hunched, uncomfortable gait.

You notice Renata is nowhere to be seen.

>Run after Lochland – he’s your packmate, you can’t let your mistake cause him to come to harm.
>Run around the other side of the building. It looks like Lochland is heading for the front entrance: if you circle around you might be able to find another way in, take them off guard.

Lochlan… should be alright. He’s got Mateo with him. If you circle around, you can cut off their escape – it’s crucial no word gets out!

You run across the field, significantly slower than the both of them seemed. They’re both inside by the time you’ve made it to the other side of the building. While there’s no path across the ditch – which, now that you’re closer, you can see is spiked on the bottom – but there is a back door to the building. The ditch is about 5 feet across.

You take a step back, feeling power flowing into your muscles, and take a run at the ditch.

You clear it easily, landing heavily on the other side. Wasting no time, you run up to the back door and creak it open, looking inside.

It doesn’t look good. Lochlan is on the ground, missing both arms and unmoving. Mateo has been backed into a corner, looking roughed up, though it looks like he’s given as good as he got – a couple Spaniard bodies wearing armour and carrying blades and firearms lay on the floor in pools of their own blood. He’s currently fighting 3 more who seem to be giving him a fair amount of space, despite outnumbering him. One of them looks to be the leader, carrying equipment with a bit more of a polish and more decorations on his armour. He also seems to be the one Mateo is paying the most attention to.

>Rush in and sneak attack the leader from behind.
>62

In your rush to aid the pack, driven by that instinctive bond, you make just a bit too much noise. Just as you're quietly running up, not 5 feet from your target, one of the subordinates turns arounds and gives a shout. The leader looks over his shoulder at you. Mierda.

You’re barely able to slow down in time to avoid running headlong into the 3 prepared, armed fighters, but you do catch a thin slash across the front of your chest, mercifully striking the bare skin between either side of your jacket - you really don’t want to have to dig up more clothing. You stumble back, waving wildly with your sword in a crude attempt to hold them off as the slash heals slowly.

As the final edges close before their eyes, your THIRST hammers you, no longer content to be put aside. You’ve been a week without blood, and while simply walking and some light practice was easy enough that you were able to put it aside… that’s no longer possible. You know that. You feel the hearts of the two subordinates beating excitedly, and a complete absence of heartbeat in the leader. Another vampire, then. Camarilla?

This thought is put aside as Mateo, taking advantage of the enemies’ split attention, lashes out at the leader. The blow of his crude wooden club – really just a branch he picked up on the way here – strikes hard across the leader’s helmet, actually denting it. The leader snarls.

At a hand signal, the two remaining living foes advance on you while the leader advances on Mateo, feral snarl continuing. A worried glance over your shoulder at Lochlan tells you he’s still not moving. What a dick.

>Last time you fought a foe with actual training and equipment, you feigned weakness. That could work. They might be less inclined to buy it, though…
>With that skin of yours, if you take down one you should be able to weather whatever blows the other one gives you while you feed.

You’re… not feeling that confident in your sabre-skills in a 2-on-1 fight, honestly. You drop it, lunging at the man on the left as it clatters to the floor and he shouts in surprise.

He tries to get his blade up for a strike in time but he very clearly wasn’t expecting you to just abandon your weapon like that. It’s so easy to just tackle him and bury your fangs in his throat.

As you greedily drain the foe dry, his friend finally gets his blade around to strike at your prone form after awkwardly catching it on the roof a few times. It stabs down into the back of your shoulder and stops short in your hard flesh, not piercing more than a few inches. The man grunts with exertion and not a small amount of fear.

The blade seems almost… embedded in your shoulder, and the man has great difficulty removing it as you finish draining the first one. It’s nearly wrenched out of his hand as you whip your head up to look up at him, blood dripping from your fanged visage. You used to be normal. What happened? He manages to hang on, though, falling back with fear in his eyes as he raises his sabre. You slowly rise to your feet, locking eyes with him. This is... purpose. This is who you were meant to be - a warrior for the Sword. Your instincts are pumping hard: they're telling you that wasn’t enough. Not yet.

You register motion from the corner of your eye, and notice Mateo seems to be holding his own rather well, actually. All the better. Renata is still nowhere to be seen, though…

>Not gonna wait for a third, that’s good enough, Juan’s all blood-buffed right now
>He never stood a chance

As you approach, he swings a powerful horizontal slash that you easily step inside of, the blood flowing through you giving you physical prowess far beyond the norm. And just like that, it's over – your fangs are in him not a half-second after and he slumps against the wall he’d backed into so defensively.

Still riding the battle- and blood-rush, you finish drinking within moments, pulling back from his drained corpse and looking back over to Mateo, thoughts going to your packmate.

Mateo is still fending the snarling, armoured vampire off but things are not looking good – his club has been sheared in half by the man’s sword and he only seems to have inflicted a few more dents in the armour.

You hurry across the roughly dozen feet separating you from the man, almost reveling in the unnatural grace and power behind your movement, and:

>Tackle him from behind – it’s been working so far. If you get your hands on his eyes, you can do... that thing.

That armor of his is actually good for us if we do this, because it'll help restrict some of his movements. Not by as much as media would have you believe, but enough to be of assistance in locking him down in the heat of combat.

By the time the Camarilla notices your rapid charge it’s too late to dodge. You hit him like a bag of stones, knocking him off balance, though he feels much sturdier than you were expecting, having turned into the blow at the last moment. You grasp for his eyes but are unable to get a hand on them, disfiguring his cheek instead as your fingers drag through it and create gruesome ‘vents’. Still, though, you awkwardly hanging off his shoulder is enough to give Mateo an opening.

The crude wooden club smashes into the man’s face with vicious force, a spray of blood accompanying the blow. Not as much as you’d expect, though. And with you so close, so overextended… it’s not enough to stop him from getting the obvious, pitifully easy shot on you he has.

His fangs tear into your throat, the target exposed when you stretched out for his face. It’s not a draining bite, but a ripping bite, and as he chomps down and whips his head away a good portion of your bloodstained neck follows suit. He spits it out with a snarl as you fall back off his shoulder armour to the ground, in momentary shock from the pain – it’s like Alvida’s claws all over again, Dios.

He takes the opportunity to swipe at Mateo as you stagger to your feet, shock fading as animalistic rage slowly, steadily fills you up like a goblet being filled with communion wine. Your head feels… less sturdy than it normally does – not much is keeping it attached right now, you realize. Seeing your wound, Mateo’s face twists in a snarl of sympathetic rage as he charges forward.

This can’t get in the way of helping your packmate. That would be a failure to the Sword.

>Fight aggressively – you need to put this fucker down before he does any more shit like that. This rage is telling you one thing - you want him to DIE.

Threatening your pack… removing Lochlan’s arms (even if he is a shitbag)… beating down on Mateo… removing your maldito throat… He DIES. Now.

Your sabre clatters to the ground, momentarily forgotten, as you dive at the scum. Though taken off guard by your assault, he’s not quite as feeble as the others and reacts quickly, viciously stabbing his sword into your lower torso. The blow barely even registers as you reach your target.

Your fingers claw at his face, shredding his eyes, what’s left of his cheeks, his ears, nose… basically any flesh defining it as a ‘face’ is deformed beyond recognition.

Still in one rage-fueled motion, your momentum carries your hissing maw up into his throat, and the small rational part of your mind enjoys the reversal of fortunes as you dig in greedily to the flesh, instinctively latching on to a major blood vessel and drinking deep. The RUSH is… exactly how you remember it. The man screams, trying in vain to pull you off his neck while pawing his face in shock.

Mateo seems to have fallen back, startled at your brutality, giving the body a few half-hearted strikes before giving up. As if it were any threat to the pack, anymore. You have stopped this threat.

And stop he does, the last of his blood flowing past your lips, his form shuddering to a halt, feeble efforts at fighting you off finally ceasing. Although…

You consciously will yourself to drain him beyond his blood, drinking deep of his soul. It flows into you, and with the last shudder of the body it explodes into ash, coating your arms and face. Memories flow through you.

You were stationed here at the direction of the Camarilla outpost in Laredo, keeping a watch for-

Your man rushes in, shouting about some dirty-looking native with a fine coat and sabre stepping into the clearing with 2 others, you-

Sending two of your ghouled rats off with a message to Laredo, you brace yourself for-

BLACKNESS

You come down from the high of the Amaranth. It wasn’t quite so… disorienting, this time. You’re getting used to it. You kneel there, enjoying the rush as you sift through the memories. Pablo. He was a… Gangrel, you think. Well, now there’s just-

Dios, the ghouled rats! You’ve got to catch them!

Your… ‘awareness’ whips through the nearby animals, looking for the specific rats. You know them well, through Pablo’s memories. After nearly a minute, you hone in on one of them, nearly at the edge of the forest – you can’t find the other one. Relieved, you call it back and feel it begin to return. As it runs back, you continue searching, though the other seems to be gone.

As the rat reaches your foot, you feel a tap on your shoulder. Whipping around, you see Renata holding up a rat with its head twisted fully around. You recognize it as the other messenger rat. “Looking for something?” She smiles. You feel relief, like a weight lifted off your shoulders. Your first mission, and your pack performed admirably. Well, except for Lochlan. The rat nibbles at your foot. You look down.

What I worry about is it still having the knowledge regardless.

Right, I changed my mind.
This rat was compliant in spanish occupation. We should kill it.
1. If we keep it, someone might recognize it and paint a target on us.
2. If we let it live, someone might find it, such as the sire of the vampire we ate and paint a target on us.

With the rat dead, only lead would be through necromancers with some weird combination of animalism that lets them talk to dead pets.

You nip at your finger and drip down some blood, which the rat hungrily laps at. It’s already ghouled – it knows what it wants.

“Really? Rat?” Renata speaks up. Right, she’s still here. Mateo is still standing around awkwardly. You suppose you should see how Lochlan is doing.

You mention his condition to Renata and she stalks off to the building and you follow suit. Mateo trails behind you, still looking somewhat frightened.

Lochlan is much the same as you had left him. Missing both his arms, not moving, looking overall pretty bad. He wasn’t exactly pleasant… but you definitely feel that kinship with him. You can’t let him die.

>Won’t even give your own packmate human blood. Ice cold.

You lean down over his body, looking over the various slashes and – obviously – the missing arms. Where do you even start? You’re hardly a healer. Figuring that closing the slash marks might help, at least, you try to smush the flesh together over the wounds. It ends up looking a bit ghastly, but they are closed. His arms lay nearby, but as you try to line one up it just doesn’t seem to fit right. The wound it too jagged, and the bone is sliced right through. This… might be beyond you.

You stand back up and, with another thought, prick your rat with a nail and hold open Lochlan's mouth, dripping blood into it. After 5 or so drops, his eyes snap open and he flails about pathetically.

“Eat SHITE, you- oh. Hey, uhhhh……..” He looks like he’s trying to remember something. “Juan!” He butchers your name. You’ve actually never heard it mispronounced to that extent – it’s barely recognizable.

He looks from side to side. “King and country, my arms!” He sits up with some apparent effort and, concentrating, his arms begin to ever-so-slowly regrow. Right – your kind can do that. All the same, it’s a little disconcerting. “You’re welcome for the help, by the way.”

Dios, what an ass.

You stand there, the room looking more like a slaughterhouse than a dwelling, thinking. That… yep, your pack achieved everything you were supposed to. Amuniritis will be pleased. Ghouled animals can keep growing far beyond their natural maximum size due to their extended lifespan

>>3012166
>Diablerize the rat
Diablerie is consuming the soul of another creature. Most non-supernatural creatures' souls are tied too directly to their bodies, so when the body dies their soul passes on, preventing diablerie. This is why you can't diablerize people, for example.
Juan would know he can't diablerize a rat.

>Ask Mateo to loot the place

You motion with your hand at the quivering man behind you - he seems to fix onto your every movement despite your age difference. “Mateo, please check the bodies.” He scurries off. A stray thought of how natural that felt floats by, but you brush it off.

Leaning down to one of the bodies – slain by a fierce blow to the head, it looks like – you start your self-directed lesson. You’ve got to learn more finesse. Juanita told you of the potential your blood has – you can’t just push peoples’ eyes in forever.

You start shifting the dead flesh around, creating shapes, mounds, valleys while trying to maintain the connections within the flesh – innumerable odd strands of various colours are exposed by your workings. How complicated.

Nearly an hour passes and your work continues, shifting meat around like a slaughtered pig on the butcher’s table. You look down into the ex-man’s eyes periodically. You feel nothing. When did this stop bothering you? By the end of it, you think you’ve learned some rudimentary things about the body and pushing flesh around. There were even a couple times where it looked like the bones shifted ever-so-slightly, though you weren’t able to replicate it.

You hear a noise behind you as the door swings open into the building and your resting packmates. Turning around, you take in the group. Mateo, who you’d lost track of, is loaded down with mildly-damaged armour, blades, and coin. Most of it is covered at least partly in blood. Lochlan has been feeding on the bodies that still had blood on them and has regained his arms, though his garment looks amusing without the sleeves. Renata, who had been outdoors, is standing in the doorway behind Amuniritis.

The stoic, perpetually-stern woman actually looks pleased for once; she sounds begrudgingly congratulatory as she speaks. “Good work, all. I understand no word escaped, and they were all slain.” Her eyes, scanning the room, fix on the pile of ash by the wall and she briefly looks over the assembled pack. Her gaze rests on you and she grins. “The Amaranth is a sacred path for the Sword, by which we gain the power to accomplish our goals. Well done, Juan.” As always, her praise fills you with that flooding warmth. What a blessing this is.

She eyes Mateo with considerably less warmth. “We will not be able to carry all that. Drop whatever you can’t carry.” With a disappointed look, he puts the equipment down, though you notice now that his arms aren’t full he’s donned a breastplate and pair of greaves he’s presumably found among the carnage.

You eye the pile as Amuniritis leads you wordlessly out again.

>Grab the coin pouches. That’s more money than you’ve seen in your life.

You reach down and snag a few of the pouches, dumping the contents into a satchel Mateo handed you earlier that you’ve tied to your belt. The rest of the items would just weigh you down - you need to keep quick. The rest of your pack has similarly taken what they wanted from the bodies, and you notice as the 5 of you walk away that Renata is sporting a boiled leather piece across her chest, with matching armour strapped to her shins. Lochlan has picked up a nice sabre, and Mateo a much deadlier looking club.

“if you carry on like this, you may prove your worth yet.” Amuniritis grins back at you all jokingly, seeming to have eased up for once.

…You think she’s joking, at least.

The 5 of you leave the fortification-turned-slaughterhouse behind and continue on the road north. The nights begin to blur together again, traveling-sleeping-traveling-sleeping-traveling-

Like most of the rest of your newly-battle-hardened pack, you spend the time focusing, also taking the opportunity to finish bonding the rat to you fully with 2 more drops of your blood.

>You’re just on the cusp of something with that Vicissitude, you can tell. And now you can call animals to practice on…

Over the course of the week, you call various creatures to you. Rats, wild dogs, birds… Whatever you can find. In any case, regardless of the materials, the process is the same.

You shape their flesh into new and strange shapes, trying to push yourself to the limits of your abilities – the only way to truly learn. It takes nearly 5 days – and dozens of dead animals – but you finally manage to replicate the bone-movement you did all the way back at the building. Now that you see how it’s done… it’s not so different from the flesh, all things considered. It’s all organic. It’s all mutable.

With that, though, your mind turns to the bone crests on your chin. You’d nearly forgotten about them after the few days of getting adjusted. You suppose you can actually try to do something about that, now.

>Leave them alone – they aren’t bothering you, and you’d like a bit more practice before trying anything on YOURSELF, Dios.

Since we're apparently keeping the rat, can we make it tiny dapper clothing? Or order a pack member to?

Also when can we capture a dog and put a "cockpit" in its brain so our rat can use it to ride around in secretly? Then if something kills the dog it can escape and tell us what happened.
>>
Leave it alone.
>>

>Leave them alone – they aren’t bothering you, and you’d like a bit more practice before trying anything on YOURSELF, Dios.
>I swear my writing is slowing down every day

You decide to leave them for now. They are a mark of honour among the Sword, after all. Apparently.

The journey continues for a few more days – Amuniritis seems to have finished her sermons for the most part. As before, your hunger grows with each day, and you can feel the hunger of your packmates growing alongside your own. Your small talk continues – you can feel the ties of the pack growing stronger.

Renata enjoys the outdoors, here, and expresses and interest in tracking down a bow if she gets the chance.

Lochlan used to compose art and song, and though he’s as demeaning about it as anything, does try to explain a few of the finer points to the group.

Mateo… used to be a mugger. That’s apparently a profession in Mexico City. Dios, what kind of hellhole is that place?

You share a bit more about yourself, in turn. Your experiences, your skills. You mention trapmaking, and they seem particularly interested in that.

The journey keeps dragging on, your THIRST getting worse with each moment. You discover halfway along that you can feed on the animals that you bring in, but the blood is disgusting. It’s all you can do to choke it down, and you barely make it through a few mouthfuls. You’d only do that again if you were about to starve to… ‘death’, that’s for sure. You wish you’d run into a few traveling merchants again you spared two men, then. How you’ve changed, so quickly., but unfortunately no such luck.

Finally, after nearly two weeks – Mateo and Lochlan are looking particularly haggard, they’ve got MAYBE another night in them – Amuniritis suddenly stops again, as before, on the path. You feel your throat ache expectantly.

She looks back. “This will be the second and final test. You have heard my sermons, partaken of the Vaulderie. Proved yourself to be… somewhat competent, at least. Show your worth through this task… and you are released as free members of the Sabbat.”

Your packmates grin, and you along with them. Your burning passion for the Sword has calmed somewhat from the roaring high of the Vaulderie, but it’s still flickering at the back of your mind, a constant reminder of your duty.

Amuniritis nods knowingly at your expressions before continuing.

“This is Laredo. The forward outpost we- you crushed reported here, and similarly this reports to San Antonio, much further to the north. That is a Camarilla stronghold, beyond our reach… for now. Already our brethren move up to the south, taking the territory the outpost you cleared watched over. Repeat that performance here, and you will have played a key role in the weakening of San Antonio for our assault.”

“This is not just a building in the middle of nowhere, though. This is a full-fledged city, with a population of thousands. We are not even sure where the Camarilla scum have set up their eyes, mouths, walls. You will need to determine that for yourselves. Use what I’ve taught you about them, about yourselves, to your advantage.”

You look amongst your packmates. You CAN do this. For the Sword of Caine.

As Amuniritis steps back into the treeline, gesturing you forward down the path and towards Laredo, your packmates seem to look to you for advice. Well, you did suggest the approach last time.

>Slash and burn. The Camarilla can’t win a straight up fight and the normal people will flee, exposing them.
>Hide your nature and gather information. They have eyes everywhere, but they don’t know you’re coming. You can strike from the shadows in one decisive move once you’ve found them out.
>Mateo lived in Mexico City – what does he know about the big city?
>Other?

Both of these, if only because Mateo will probably suggest the former anyways.
>>
>>3013933
>>Mateo lived in Mexico City – what does he know about the big city?

Renata is also super sneaky. They should work together to find out what groups can aid us, who we should avoid, and track down the Camarilla human supporters we were warned so many times about.

>>>3013933
Hey, Mateo has like a crippled limb or something right?

Should we offer to try and fix that for him?

Probably not a good idea, what with how unskilled we still are.

We should hide our bone spurs, then. Also does our Diablerie reveal anything about Cammy ops in the City?

>>3013946
Would this count as practice for our bone spurs?
>>
seriously, let's not fuck up mateo

>Hide your nature and gather information. They have eyes everywhere, but they don’t know you’re coming. You can strike from the shadows in one decisive move once you’ve found them out.
>Mateo lived in Mexico City – what does he know about the big city?

You ask Mateo what advice he can offer about a big city and he nods, thoughtful. "O-once we're in there, I'll be able to get a lay of the land, might take a bit though. I know the c-criminal types."

After a brief discussion, you all resolve to try and infiltrate the town.

Your group hides the bloodstains on their equipment with dirt where they can and you wrap a piece of cloth around your cheeks. It's not pretty, but it should do. The group heads into the city, ready to blend in. Dios, you're so hungry. Maybe... you can find something on the way in.

>Gonna leave it here for the night, short run but can't be helped.
>As always, information about the next active run to follow later. Rest of the week is looking a little unlikely, but we'll see.

It would be practice, yes. You can give it a shot if you want.

> offer to heal Mateo

>>3013962
Dudes already fucked up.
>>
>>3013964
I mean, I did suggest it.

Probably the easiest time to do it is right now when the Vauderie is at its weakest.
>>
>>3013955
We could simply claim it to be a deformity if questioned or seen. We'll only be frequenting places of night after all.
And if they recognise us as a vampire? We'll just eat them.
No hiding or denying our nature.
>>
>>3013977
That's assuming we'll see the person recognizing us from our distinctive facial bone spurs.

Just vote for the first option if that's your plan, but we saw a lot of dudes get wiped already for being overconfident.

Cowardice has always been our best plan.
>>
>>3013978
We haven't been cowardly, merely restrained.
So far Carmilla vampires have all been easy targets - these guys will be stronger, but also don't expect us, and in a city of thousands.
>>
>>3013964
>offer to TRY to heal Mateo
make clear that we will be better at it later in our unlife though

>also try to get some feed, make it a person people are not going to miss, and hide the body

> We haven't been cowardly, merely restrained.

You been playing the same quest? We've run away a bunch, and only fought other Vamps when we outnumbered them or when forced to like with the Prince. Hello we ran from Bandits even.

Every stand up fight we tried got our ashes whupped.

But cowardice is working. It's a virtue.
>>
You know, instead of healing Mateo, you could fleshcraft him a ghoul-ed prothesis.
>>
>>3014138
Rat-Ghoul roller-skates anybody?
>>
>>3014214
Chest-burster rats that can hide in living people as spies and suicide attackers?

>Definite no-go on the rest of the week and likely the weekend as well, I'm just too busy.
>Resuming next week with a new thread with infiltration in full swing.
>I'll keep an eye on the thread in the meantime so feel free to post any questions/thoughts
>>
>>3014867
Well, I wonder if we could have some downtime during the infiltration. Create a haven and relax between hits, socialize a bit with our teammates, circlejerk about how the Book of Nod is the greatest thing ever and blame the Antediluvians for everytime we

I don´t know if I might be too of a fag for Slice of Unlife, but it is also true that anons have not prioritized getting to know our pack members. I mainly imply as a sort of breathing room between action sequences

Also we should probably ease up on the Diablerie thing. It doesn´t feel right and think about what our little brother would think if he could see us now. Hopefully, we can still remember his name.
>>
>>3015017
>for every time we hurt our toe with the furniture
>>
>>3015017
The Amaranth is highly prized by the Sabbat and their vampires, and is feared by the Carmilla worms
>>
>>3016626
But it's draining our humanity and thus our free will.
>>
>>3016626
It's very boring when it's done all the time. Like half the point of wanting to do it as the Camarilla is BECAUSE it is forbidden. Here it's just "Pick up chips at the store, walk the dog, drain steve for that extra boost in generation." and so on.
>>
>>3017267
Also how many times can we expect to get a power boost from it anymore?
I'd expect we're reasonably low gen now.
>>
Assuming Juantia wasn't too low, I'd say 10th? Maybe 9th?
>>
>>3014341
>>3014214
Jesus christ Juan just figured out how to push bone around, might want to shoot a little lower for now I like your ambition, though

>>3015017
>ease up on the Diablerie
That sounds like heresy, son. Are you implying you don't want to further the goals of the Sword of Caine? Juan's humanity is... decreasing

>>3017289
You always get something, even if it's just a bit of their skills and knowledge.
>>
>>3018471
Maybe quality diablerie over quantity? I mean if you chow down on a metric ton of rando hobo vampiro instead of primo low gen cammy elder, won't Juan descend into madness?
>>
>>3018819
Diablerie is so common in the sabbat, but I can't recall any mentions of much issues with wights. I think their whole deal gives them some kind of wiggle room against going wight, despite the inhumanity they have.
>>
>>3018471
>Are you implying you don't want to further the goals of the Sword of Caine?
I mean, what have they ever done for us? They bashed us over with a shovel, inducted us into their weird little heretical cult and made us fight in their war and what do we get in return?

We get to spend our eternity as a foot soldier to our elders so they can fight other elders, until someone finally gets lucky and kills us without receiving any payment in return.

So yea, they can shove that sword right up their asses until they start repaying us somehow for us risking our necks for them repeatedly.
>>
We should donate the money we got to the Church and ask for forgiveness.

It is blood money
>>
>>3018872
They made us a higher being, gave us a purpose, educated us and gave us allies to work with. They've yet to do anything to harm us or even really put us in deeper than we can swim
>>
I hope this spying will give us new perspective on Vampire society beyond the picture the Sabbat wishes to show us.
Maybe we could capture one and interrogate one?
Study how Camarilla works and why the young. ones willingly remain pawns of the elders.
>>
>>3018828
While diablerie is more common, the Sabbat recognizes that it might cause addiction and the end result might not end up what you wanted it to be.

Leaders who get to their positions by only Monomacy and Diablerie are not generally trusted around, as they are too unstable even for the Sabbat. After all, you wouldn´t like to trust a junkie to lead the fight against the Antediluvians.

tl;dr: one diablerie is nice, two is ok and three is addiction. Anything further than that and people would question whether you are loyal to the sect or the Amaranth.
>>
If we act like a shovelhead, we gonna get treated like a shovelhead.

Every opportunity we have to not act like a common shovelhead, we should take it. If we act like a grunt, we gonna be treated like a grunt.
