“Constance needs all the help she can get. I voted for you to stay. Guess I represent this little girl’s voice too.” Lise stars patting Constance’s head, sending her into a giggling fit.

Trent shrugs in an annoyed way. “I voted to kick your ass out. They ain’t counting it ‘cause they think I’m jokin’. Why the fuck d’you make me vote if you ain’t gonna count it?” What an asshole. “The hell am I doin’ here anyway…?”
Osgood taps the ground impatiently. His whole posture appears strained. “My turn. Isn’t it obvious why? You never think of the consequences and you endanger us each time. My biggest mistake was waiting for it to blow up in our faces instead of saying something. Not anymore.”

“Well, uh…” Richard appears out of nowhere! Heck, he may have arrived earlier! From seeing Nina, Henry and Osgood twitching in place, they must’ve also been surprised. “I have no idea what sort of history is going on with you guys. In my opinion, having flame users in the group is a priority. Removing Johnny is a loss no matter the angle you take. I vote for him to stay.” His smugness is back! Just how good are the clinic’s bathrooms?!

Wait, this means you’re still in! Nice! If the atmosphere wasn’t as tense and if your body wasn’t as pained, you would feel some kind of joy right about now.

“This isn’t as clear cut as I thought it was going to be.” You admit to your allies. “There must be a better solution. If you want me to st–” You get rudely interrupted by certain Comeback Prince…

The reality is I don’t think I’m going to be able to work with this group anymore.” Osgood throws it out there plain and simple, drawing looks from the whole room. “We were supposed to care for each other, our only goal was to survive, we never knew how bad we had it ‘till now – but you didn’t need to be a genius to know how bad it could get. You two still left my friend to die. Maybe not on purpose, which almost makes it possible to forgive you… But what she did...” Osgood turns to Amelia and points at her. His voice is pure unrestrained venom. “That’s truly unforgivable.”

“Stop wasting our time, we already had this conversation like four times now.” Amelia doesn’t give a fuck anymore. Your sister is empty thanks to you.
“That’s why I’m leaving. I know you two come in one pack, so it’s better if you stay together and help out.” Osgood sounds defeated.

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so we can speed the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed.

Dice Mechanic (Up for Balance)

We always roll 1d100s!
I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls plus a modifier depending on Johnny’s stats (Knowledge, Courage, etc.) for the quest. The degree of Success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt compared to the result. The stat based modifier is based in the level of Johnny’s stats (+10 per level not counting the first one). If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have. For example:

Equation:
(Roll 1 + Roll 2 + Roll 3 + Roll 4 + [Stat Based Modifier]) / (Number of Dices Rolled (Max. 4)) = Result!


Rolling over a 95 is a critical strike and ignores the other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure (Only for hard rolls on)…

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action, in other words, the harder the option the better the result for the fight!

Don’t forget at the end of the day this is a Story-driven quest! So what the prompts are describing is more important than difficulty of the rolls are for the results in a fight.

“You still have to keep that contract with Constance, remember? How’s that gonna work?” This reminder is enough to throw him off, going from extremely heated to mildly annoyed.
“Uh, I didn’t think about that. I wonder how…”

Everyone directs their attention from Osgood to Constance. The mummy looks awfully flustered at all the sudden stares going her way. After a second of silence, she begins answering your questions.

“Uhm… Athelone is grounded so I don’t think anything is going to happen to you, Mr. Osgood.”
“See? Nothing to worry about.” Osgood completely forgot about that didn’t he?
“She’s not exerting her contract now, but later when she returns she might not be so idle.” Matilda shares a look with Lise. What’s that about…?

“You can’t leave that easily.” You try to shrug at Osgood, but the unbearable pain says otherwise.

“What? Now I’m your hostage or something? Think you can drag me anywhere and do what you please?”
“That’s not the point, man. This group needs you more than it does me.”
“When I needed you, you guys failed. There is no other way I can work this around. Sorry it had to be this way guys.” Osgood wipes his forehead. Putting your soul on the line is plenty stressful, but on top of whatever Osgood’s already going through…?

Enough wondering about Osgood’s issues! There’s something not adding up here!

“I do have a question about what happened, and I have the strangest feeling you know about this. What was Bradford’s connection to his murderer?”
“What are you talking about?” Osgood suddenly looks uncomfortable, and not because his friend died a few days ago…
“I remember that bastard calling Bradford a ‘traitor’ before what happened.” Lise backs you up and immediately has an (unseen) minor flashback of the incident. Meanwhile, Richard tries to avoid staring for too long.
“I know you’re hiding something, Osgood!” You push him for an answer. Bradford’s backstory was completely unknown to everybody except Osgood and he knows it! He’s been holding out on you!

“…He was listed in the Hosts of Rebellion archives. We also never got any explanation why Bradford has so many pictures of him with entities published over the web for people to see.” Matilda adds herself into the equation. “Every time I asked him, he evaded the questions. Either Johnny is correct and you’re hiding something, or you two weren’t as close friends as you pretend to be.”
“Bradford was my best friend and I refuse to hear you speak like this about him.” Osgood glares at Matilda.

Something I was clearly against the whole time.” Empty Amelia gets in too! “If you want anyone to blame for this, you should blame yourself.” Amelia is not playing anymore; she’s just speaking her mind callously.

“N-no! Don’t give me that shit!” Osgood is getting angrier, gritting his teeth. The look in his eyes is desperate. “He had a useful special ability no one tried to make use of! B-besides, we have three people here with no entities whatsoever and you’re fine with that! What gives?!”
“Nina had an entity. Matilda is more useful than whatever Bradford could ever hope to be in his life. I have no idea why this meathead is here.” Amelia turns her head, looking at Trent with an empty expression. “I thought you had enough of us after you beat my idiot brother up the first time.” Though her voice is monotone and she isn’t looking at you, the shade your sister throws scalds you to the bone. That was the first promise you broke to her, after all…
“Ha! Just enjoying the show! I’m not stickin’ around for long!” Trent laughs that arrogant laugh. In a moment so quick you feel you imagined it, you think you saw Amelia smirking at Trent…

“It’s not the time or place for this.” Nina wants focus but no one responds to her. The spotlight is on Osgood.

“Bradford was useful! You guys just never gave him a chance!” Osgood suddenly gets so sad his voice cracks.
“You’re dodging the question, Gaumont. What was Bradford’s connection to his murderer?” Richard wants the truth. Seems he’s convinced. “Does it have anything to do with what happened at the stadium?”
Osgood’s breathing gets a bit shaky. His gaze keeps moving from person to person. “Fuck off. I’m leaving.” He’s obviously hiding something!

“Tell us what you’re hiding. Please.” Osgood has been a great pal to you so far, you don’t want him to feel like you didn’t care. It was an honest mistake, but now you need to know the truth.
Osgood turns around. The anger in his face quickly turns to anguish. His gaze passes through everyone and ends on you. “Fine… He was going to tell everyone anyway next meeting – you know, the one where you two were going to tell us your past?”
Henry’s eyes open at this. “Yeah, I almost forgot about that!” He forgot?! He was the one who got mad at you and your sister for keeping quiet about it! The hell?!

He closes his eyes and clutches his head in stress, taking a shuddering breath. “I’m sorry if some of the details are lost on me but…” Osgood beings his speech, the whole room on edge…

Bradford starting getting involved in this whole mess way earlier than you guys thought. He was first approached by an entity over more or less the same timeframe when you got your first visit from whatever the first entity that contacted you was. He rejected the power offer from the demon that came for aid, the same thing you did. Bradford didn’t want to give up part of his own humanity just for superpowers.

That’s when he was able to start using his ability, and more importantly, able to partially see entities.

At first he had a run-in with two entity users, but ran away and nothing came of it. He kept a low profile for a while after, until one day on a news site he caught a glimpse of a strange link in the comments. Something about ‘showing the truth.’ That’s when he was able to find out about the real mess the world was getting into; the rules were displayed for anyone to see. And not only that, he was able to decipher the secret code of the page: An address.

It was for an old IRC, like people used to use 30 years ago – one of those that’s been dead for so long no one remembers it. That’s where he and other anonymous users met the man who would eventually murder Bradford: ‘Kazuchika Storgaard’. His objective was to put a stop to the madness, no matter the cost. The world depended on them!

Their first IRL meeting was at the Monumental Stadium, days prior to the meeting you bailed out on. There, Kaz explained to him and two other guys (who Osgood oddly doesn’t remember a single detail about) about his intention to end the game. That’s where one of the guys proposed to eliminate all the Judges, the logic being that there can’t be a game if all the managers are dead.

They all unanimously agreed to this extreme mission. Bradford included.

Kaz wanted to recruit other entity users to their cause, so he schemed a plan to gather as much of them as they could, using the stadium as a meeting site. The plan went south the moment info was delivered to the wrong people. That fateful day, cult members appeared and raided the place, capturing a large number of lost entity users who didn’t have teams or allies of their own. Their first major battle was one they escaped by the skin of their teeth.

The original quartet survived and added a new kid to their group, which they used to infiltrate the cult for retaliation. As for Bradford, he was tasked with luring out other entity users and locating the Judges, if possible. That’s where he got the idea to take pictures with other members’ entities and uploading them to the internet as bait.

Sadly, the only person who took the bait happened to be Osgood.

Bradford never thought the blonde-haired prettyboy from Poker Nights would be involved in the conflict. The fatso tried to lure Osgood to their group and help stop the war game. Osgood instead convinced him to join forces with you. He obviously mentioned you had a Judge on your side during the sales pitch. Bradford hatched a plan of his own – to kill the Judge himself. Of course he informed the other members of his team, as the anxious man he is, and tried to do it all on his own.

At the moment of truth, when he met Constance, he couldn’t do it.

He couldn’t kill a little girl like that.

He kept his identity secret to everybody with Osgood’s help and severed all ties with Kaz’s group. But even doing all that…

“…I guess you can put two and two together now. He betrayed his own team to help us, and he died for nothing.” Osgood sat in an empty chair somewhere in the middle of his speech. He cradles his head in his hands, bowed forward.
“He revealed Constance’s location. If anything he made it worse for us.” Matilda states bluntly as ever. “Right, sister?”

Lise remains uncomfortably silent. Knowing how harsh she used to act towards Bradford, the irony must sting…

Osgood stands up so fast the chair shoves over, making a clattering noise echo in the room. “Shut up, you brat! You don’t understand anything! You think keeping this shit from you guys was easy?! I know you’re easy to buy out with money, but we’re not like you! Nobody is!” Osgood screams back in Matilda’s unchanging face. “He was a good man! He didn’t deserve this!”
“Doesn’t sound like a hero to me.” Amelia doesn’t care. “He was never a hero. Do you want me to list all the things he did wrong? ‘Cause I totally can, and you won’t stop me.”

“Well I’m sorry he wasn’t ‘perfect’ like you wanted. Not like anyone here has done a perfect job!” Osgood’s voice drips with condescension.
“He almost killed me.” Amelia’s calm demeanor saying something like that is quite unsettling. Wait, he almost WHAT?!
“W-what…?” Osgood is confused too! He doesn’t know this either! What happened?

“Not the time to air grievances now. Wait for later; we don’t want to say something we regret while we’re emotional.” Nina tries to calm those two, and only Osgood calms down.

Your little sister is already dead inside.

“Anyway, thank you for telling us the truth. It must have been hard to admit that after all this time.” You try to be nice to Osgood. The man needs a fucking break after that.
“Yeah… I guess.” His voice sounds completely drained. Hopefully he still understands you’re on his side! Everyone’s side too!

“How did the guy look like by the way? Did he happen to like art?” Is this the million-dollar question?!
Osgood gives you a morose glare. “What are you babbling on about? Guy looks like he was fired yesterday from his cushy office desk job. I think I have a picture of him on my phone courtesy of my dead friend!” He yells the last part at Amelia’s direction. She remains unfazed.

Osgood pulls out his phone and shows everyone the picture.

“Looks like someone who got kicked out of a bar.” Henry mentions immediately.
“Is his beard uneven?” Nina points out. It’s totally uneven! “How can he be so unprofessional?”
“Looks like a bum.” Says Yu Yan, who has absolutely no right to say that!

You’ve seen this guy before! He was right there with you, complaining about wanting to buy a terrifying painting that wasn’t on sale!

“That’s the guy from the museum.” You say out loud. You didn’t see a flame on him, how is that possible…?
“Indeed he is. We were having such a good time and he had to interfere. And in front of my dear mother’s painting too…” Nariko remembers it as well, though she sounds melancholy at remembering her mom’s work on display. “If my memory serves me right, that day… Bradford was in the museum as well. At Entrance A, I believe.” Nariko’s right!

Hold the phone…

“But that means they saw each other before this confrontation!” You now have even more reasons to suspect Bradford!
“He never told me anything about meeting him at the museum!” Osgood is surprised. Genuine? “Perhaps they didn’t meet at all!”

Nobody is buying it. Not even you.

“I think we’ve missed the point for a while now. Now that my curiosity is satisfied, I only have to wonder: what are you planning to do next, Osgood Gaumont? The more flames the merrier, right?” Richard shifts everyone back on topic.
“I don’t know... I don’t even know what I’m doing in general.” A defeated Osgood mumbles out.

“I think the next topic the group needs to discuss is who is going to be the leader.” Nina reminds everyone. “Osgood, I’ll be glad to have you as part of this group too. Please stay here until the end of this meeting.”
“Alright, alright…”

“Sorry for being blunt and doing this quickly, but I need some names. Who wants to be leader?” Nina stands up. “If you want you c—”

“I do.” Nariko smirks as the first one to enroll, interrupting Uccelli in the process.
“You guys don’t know me enough, but I think I’m fit for the role.” Richard wants to be leader too.
“I’ve had enough. I want a piece of the action too.” Osgood raises his hand in turn.

“Oh my, didn’t you want to quit altogether just a moment ago? They say prudence is an underrated virtue, but it’s clearly one you have in excess.” Nariko looks curious, though you can sense the condescending smug underneath the surface and past her backhanded compliment.
“I don’t trust any of you two to do decent work.” Osgood looks on with disgust. “At least not anything benefiting the group as a whole.”

“I was going to say we could suggest someone else, but oh well…” Nina doesn’t like being interrupted. That’s part of being a teacher, isn’t it?
“T-that’s fine.” Says Osgood the Impatient.

She's organized this whole thing and has worked tirelessly to keep everything calm.
Her only allegiance is to our group, she doesn't seem to hold a grudge against anyone, and seems to have the groups interests in mind.
Even if she doesn't have power, her ability to keep everyone on task her is just what we need.
The leader shouldn't be the most charismatic, or strangest. Just someone that can guide everyone to where they need to go.

On a baseline I feel like B is the better option regardless, but beyond that you seem to be implying that the group is vindictive enough to just shoot Johnny down without listening to his actual argument.

I believe she simply hasn't considered it, and would only need a push from others voting for her to take up the mantle. Again, if our suggestion is shot down that's fine, but the current candidates all have various conflicting interests that make them unfit to lead the group, so getting someone that isn't them is the best option. In the end it's the groups choice, but there is nothing wrong with pointing these things out.

Leadership is a divisive topic, but that's why we are voting. Johnny's honest input on the situation isn't going to cause some type of schism, not anymore than there already is anyway.

I think what you meant is that despite being forgiven by most of the group and let back on the team, Johnny has yet to prove himself capable of rational decision making and should take a more passive role in the group as to not rock the already leaking boat and cause more problems.
I think that's bullshit, and a very counterproductive mindset to have, at least when it comes to critical decisions like this.
Once a leader is selected, i'd be fine with playing a more supportive role in the group, but this is a big choice the group has to make, and everyone's opinions should be accounted for, and all potential options talked about before moving forward.

Ajna was a mistake of two people with no one else around to stop that vote, that is a entirely out of character problem with the thread and has no business being compared to the issue at hand. Johnny must vote because he is a part of the group. If we abstain we send the message that Johnny is withdrawing, either that he does not care about the group's future or that he doesn't want to stay in it.

We're not giving "them" an opportunity to choose a leader because there IS no "them", it's "us". It's that simple. Emotions are running high and no one is thinking clearly, they will latch on to the first gut feeling they get from Johnny's actions and if that is "that guy doesn't care" we are never going to earn their trust back. “Trust and unity are driven by results first and ideals second. Nobody wants to ride on a sinking ship.” Richard puts his thoughts on the matter.
“Nobody holds a grudge against me either, and I also have the capabilities for the role.” Nariko refutes your argument too. “Dear Ando, is it that you just don’t believe in me?” She puts a hand on her chest.
“Don’t forget you’re just a girl, Nariko. Our last so-called leader ended up in a wheelchair for stupidly taking on more responsibility than he should.” Gloomy Amelia drones out. “Maybe he fears the same thing happening to you, but he would have to care about people other than himself to think that. Or be able to think at all.” Ouch!
“Being old doesn’t exactly translate to experience, Amelia.” Nariko responds back. “Have I failed before? No, I haven’t! I have exceeded all expectations!” She’s ignoring how she used to be an amnesiac hobo until recently…

“Precisely! Dear Ando completely understands and I think this solution is superb!” Nariko nods rapidly like Amelia used to. Speaking of which, Amelia just blankly watches her do this.
“He’s only trying to keep you shut later, Mooriko.” Yu Yan grins, she thinks Nina’s victory is certain or something.

Nina claps her hands. “Any objections?” Looking around, most people seem okay with it.

“We don’t want any doubts for later, so I agree.” Matilda doesn’t seem to have a problem.
“Let’s get this over with…” Soulless Amelia groans out.
“So, I’m out of the equation, right?” Osgood wonders out loud. He already tasted utter defeat moments ago. Does he want seconds?

Nariko smiles proudly. She’s met with only Constance’s applause and the stares of everybody else.

“So how will you back those words, Nariko?” Richard questions.
“You’ve seen me in battle. I took over and my part of the group left unharmed for the most part, in a mission without intel and with leadership quickly handed to me. I did a spectacular job.” A smug Nariko responds. “Then again, my actions speak for themselves, hmmm?”

Plain and simple.” He sits back down. Constance claps again! Adorable.

“Couldn’t come up with something yourself?” Nariko is not impressed.
“You made it easy, I had to take the chance.” Richard grins back. “What’s the matter, can’t handle the truth?” Nariko gives Richard a look of pure disgust while he just grins wider.

“Alright, I suppose we have all the information we need! Let’s vote!” Nina wants to deal with this once and for all.

“Do I need to? It’s not really about me or what I can say, but what we can do as a group.”

Nina returns the handshake then turns to the team. “At first I wanted to lead this group in its earliest moments. I thought I had to carry the weight because of what was expected of me – I had two kids under my wing, didn’t I? That’s Nina’s victory speech. Nobody in the room applauds her except Constance. It must feel like the least evil one won for the team.

“I hope you won’t forget our priority is to protect Constance, alright?” Richard reminds her. She just nods back. The two of them walk away from the others to start discussing what to do.

You now turn your attention back to Nariko, who is holding her shirt like she used to when she was a hobo – like the little lost girl abandoned by her parents. You elbow Yu Yan to move you closer to your OG hobo.

“Are you okay?” You ask. You know she’s not okay, but you ask anyway.
“W-why…? Why does no one want to rely on me? I did everything right… Didn’t I?” Nariko whispers in a shaky voice, trying not to burst into tears over the betrayal she feels.

The heart-wounded girl turns her head to you, expression remaining unchanged – her eyes still completely empty. “Didn’t you get more votes than Richard? “Don’t you understand? No matter how much I try, no matter how much I keep getting better, the only thing I gain is someone else’s pity! The same from you and everyone else! Just pity! “Oh shit, you’re right! Nariko! Wait!” Yu Yan runs out too, leaving you here like an idiot.

You two wisely ignore him as you keep rushing forward, evading any obstacle in the way.

“How insignificant of me to have such a reaction. And how deeply it saddens me that your suspicions are correct.” Nariko’s voice is absent of any emotion, eerily close to Amelia.. “Shows how little power I have to change courses, to make a difference – I could be terrified right now and it wouldn’t change my resolve. My end. Almost like it was destiny leading me to this very moment…”
“What are you talking about?” Matilda for once looks dumbfounded.

For a determined person like Matilda, someone who can never comprehend suicide on an emotional level, this should sound like nonsense. It still sounds nonsensical to you, but at the same time you get the feeling she’s trying to convey. You’ve felt like that a couple times before, despite never going through with it. You’d be leaving Amelia behind if you did.

“If you jump over not being in charge, I might as well jump for fucking up too much while in charge! Don’t do it Nariko!”

Nariko finally turns her head to you. Her blank expression is full of tears…

“Taking your own life? I can’t believe I made you think such thoughts. I feel I have truly failed on every level, on all counts.” Nariko stands up smoothly. You can feel Matilda tensing up… “The clouds… I always felt so lonely watching the clouds…” She holds a hand above her, as if trying to reach for something impossible…

“Partner, it’s now or never. I don’t care how you want to stop her, but you need to stop her now. Fight through the pain and use that strength. We can’t fail again! Not like this!” Philonune is up for whatever you are planning to do to save Nariko. Whatever it takes.

This is a decisive moment! Can words and actions truly be enough?!

“Get me closer to her, quick!”

Matilda starts running immediately as Nariko tries to walk in front of her, trying to reach the clouds – her right foot hovering in the empty air. She starts falling and closes her eyes.

Matilda turns sideways as she reaches the fence and shoves you into it!

You have no idea with what strength you’re doing this, but miraculously you invoke your partner! Philonune pulls back his arm and throws a rapid punch, absolutely shattering the fence! Reaching down through the punch, Philonune continues forward and grabs Nariko by the wrist!

“Huh…?” Nariko doesn’t understand what’s going on anymore, still in her sad haze. You’re not going to let her go no matter what she does!

Nariko is suspended in the air with only Philonune’s grip as her support. She’s looking around her without reacting much to what just happened. Your partner, meanwhile, uses his spear’s blade to make this impromptu hole bigger for your slightly-overweight hobo to fit through without cutting herself.

“You’re grabbing her, right?! Pull her quick!” Matilda yells in your ear as you stagger a second between your actions. You’re feeling too much pain for any kind of fluidity at this. Since Philonune works as his own entity, you don’t need Matilda for your own support. No point or time to explain that. Saving Nariko is all you need to do.

You feel your energy waver; Philonune’s hold can slacken any second now… Damnit…

Philonune definitely feels you slipping up through the connection. “C’mon partner, stay focused!” Will this be enough motivation?!

Philonune tosses his weapon aside and grabs Nariko with both hands, pulling her up past the edge of the roof! Her limp body gets through the hole, with you and Matilda giving her some space. Nariko continues crying on your shoulders, burying her head deep. She’s letting it all go. What was she thinking?!

“I can choke her to sleep so she doesn’t pull a fast one on us.” Matilda shows her hands doing an eerie movement with her fingers, like that one time she offered you a massage. This is one massage Nariko might not wake up from…!
“I… don’t think that’s necessary.” You respond with a meek smile, trying to ignore the suffering on everything.

“A hug won’t be enough. We can’t let her endanger herself again. People in this state are stupid and unpredictable.”
“She could have overpowered me a bit ago if she wanted. My hug doesn’t even have any strength left.”
“I still can’t help but feel anxious.” Matilda crouches next to you and pats Nariko’s back robotically.

You stay silent, telling Matilda to cover up the hole on the fence with stares and hand motions. She, naturally, responds with a “how?” using her arms. You’re paying her to do it, not to tell her how! Eventually she finds a rusty table and sticks it there. It should work until weather gets bad.

The two of you wait for Nariko to let it all out. Poor girl needs to vent for a while. Matilda keeps patting her on the back just to feel useful.

“Do you want to do it again?” You whisper to Nariko while Matilda watches in confusion. “Because if you do, I will pull you back no matter how many times it takes.” Matilda rolls her eyes at you. So what if it’s cheesy?! It’s what she needs to hear! “I also told you how much we needed you a bunch of times, and you never understood. We never pitied you, Nariko. You were too busy pitying yourself.”

Nariko moves her head away. “I’m sorry…” She pleads for forgiveness, face covered in tears and…

“…Why is there blood on your face?” Pretty sure nothing happened to her. She was spotless over at the ledge.
Nariko realizes her hands have blood too. “Ahhhhh!” She shakes in place, wiping at the blood.
“Oh god, what the fuck is happening?!” You’re worried. Nariko is worried. What’s going on?!

Matilda gets up, wide-eyed for some reason. So many sudden movements around you… “Johnny, your wound reopened. We need to take you back inside.” Oh, there it is. So the wetness wasn’t only hobo tears… “Lie down and relax, I’ll get some help. Nariko turn off your app.”
“Ye-yes…” Nariko reacts and does as told.

Matilda gets suddenly interrupted by someone smashing the roof door open! It’s Yu Yan! She’s holding her jacket close and… is she using her t-shirt as pants?! Well it’s more like a skirt, but what kind of fashion statement is this?! The neck is getting stretched

He’s throwing the question back at you even though he probably knows the answer, but you’re fine with this. “I can’t believe Nariko was willing to throw her life away, just like that. After taking her in and keeping her alive and getting her her memories back, she really feels that way about us? Was everything I’ve done so far just not good enough for her?” Is doing your best not good enough? Mom always said your family and your loved ones would appreciate your efforts as long as you did your best… That’s not true anymore, is it? Was it ever true, or were you just deluding yourself so you wouldn’t go insane these past two years?

Philonune smirks at you. “How does it feel to have the whole world against you?” You don’t feel any malice from him. Whatever he’s saying has to be important…

I just need to make things right with them.” You put a hand over the aching stab wound, remembering the way the others stared at you when you walked in the room. What will it take to ‘make things right?’ Your condition is forcing you to rest and heal for the time being. What else can you do?
“When you closed your eyes, when everything went dark – did you really see them there with you? Quick comment, the answer to my last question was me, but okay – I can handle it.”

“What are you getting at?”
“When we needed them the most, when it was their turn to prove themselves to us, we were left alone. They abandoned us.” He closes in on your face. The feeling from his smirk is different now.

“Johnny. I had the whole world and all its powers against me and it didn’t change a thing. On this path you’re on, it won’t change a thing for you either. We are putting our lives on the line to save the world we care about, whether they like it or not.” He tilts his head back at the door.
“Philonune, I’m not a martyr or anything like that.” Though you did get uncomfortably close with Neko stabbing you.

“Martyrs die taking a chance at success, Johnny. We will survive winning.”

“So I guess you didn’t like what you saw today, since we’re talking about being left alone and stuff?” You joke and put him back on topic. Even though you don’t want to.
“That’s right. I expected more from our comrades. The weight of battle hasn’t been put on them yet, and they are already crumbling under its burden. Though it doesn’t surprise me, it saddens me still.” His smirk lessens as you feel the disappointment coming from him. “They have such lofty expectations of us and low expectations of themselves – causing them to scorn us the instant we have any weakness. They are allowed to misstep, wail, and perish as they see fit. We don’t get that luxury, but I don’t want it anyhow. Victory must be secured at all costs.”
“Nariko needs our sympathy, man.”
“It’s not about her. It’s not that simple.” Philonune goes quiet for a moment, then transforms. “Forgive me, I didn’t want to plant a seed of distrust in you. You understand them better than I ever could, and I trust you until the bitter end.”
