You are Myon Uesugi, Ninja of the Bloody Mist, teammate of the infamous Zabuza Momochi and apprentice to Juzo Biwa,a member of the legendary Seven Swordsmen. Over the past month, you and Zabuza have undergone intense training on the Island of Death where you nearly met a grisly end at the hands of a wild tiger. The fierce encounter left you scarred, but you were able to carry on in spite of the injury. Now you feel stronger than ever, with several new techniques to unleash upon anyone who would threaten you or your village. The time has come for you to undertake your first mission…

A bright midday sun shines overhead as you and your teammates bid the Island of Death farewell. You and Zabuza walk behind your Sensei Juzo as you head toward the mainland across seawater as if it were grass. You give yourself a brief look in the water’s reflection while following Sensei; your black hair has grown slightly longer and your body itself looks thinner with a little more visible muscle than you remember. It may not look like much, but you can definitely feel the difference. Perhaps most striking of all was the large scar on your stomach, a claw-mark that serves as a reminder of your close brush with death. Truth be told, you’ve grown a little proud of that scar and wore it like a badge of honor. A part of you, in your eagerness for battle, looks forward to earning more scars as time goes on.

“Maybe we’ll come back here one day.” Juzo says while continuing to lead the way. “Returning to civilization this soon doesn’t sit well with me, but duty calls.”

“Hmph,” Zabuza grumbles. “I wouldn’t exactly call Kappa Station ‘civilization’ but whatever. I take it this war’s about to kick off?”

Juzo glances over his shoulder at the two of you with his customary frown.

“From what I’ve heard, everyone’s getting ready to kill each other but no one wants to make the first move.” Juzo turns his gaze aside and spits into the water. “Everyone’s holding their breath.”

“Good,” you mutter. “I want to be right on the frontlines when it finally starts.”

“Heh,” Zabuza chuckles. “Me too.”

The three of you walk on in silence as a fort with a tall central watchtower creeps into view. Soon enough, you end up crossing over from the water’s surface to the sandy coastline. From there, it is a leisurely walk up a few grassy hills until you reach Kappa Station.

“Open the gates!” a lone sentry shouts. “Biwa-sama and his students have returned!”

The front gate to Kappa Station swings open, revealing a dozen Ashigaru clad in armor who are quick to drop to their knees.

“WELCOME BACK LORD BIWA-SAMA!!” they all shout in unison.

Juzo sighs, slapping his forehead protector.

"Without fail..." Juzo whispers.

After waving the Ashigaru away, Juzo leads you two inside the same residence that was set aside for you and Zabuza when you first arrived over a month ago. While sitting within the spacious lodgings, Juzo calls a serving girl inside who pours each of you a cup of tea. Juzo then whispers into her ear and she makes a hasty exit. You’re about to ask Juzo what he was speaking to her about when another guest quickly enters inside. He is a young and clean-shaven Ashigaru wearing the typical blue armor you’ve come to recognize along with a conical hat, although he also appears to be carrying a sack over his shoulder filled with various scrolls.

“Greetings Lord Biwa, Zabuza…” the soldier flashes you a smile. “… and my little kunoichi friend.”

You suddenly recognize the Ashigaru!

“Genki?” you ask. “Its you?”

The Ashigaru nods his head.

“You know this guy?” Juzo mutters.

“Uh, yeah.” you say aloud. “We ran into each other on the road here, he helped me find Kappa Station in the first place.”

You chose to leave out the part where Genki mistook you for a farmer’s lost daughter, you can see by the man’s blushing cheeks that he is still a bit embarrassed over that. As much as you’d like to rub it in, you don’t feel like this is the proper time or place.

“I actually have to thank you for that,” Genki says while rummaging through his bag. “My superiors were happy with me helping you, so they decided to make me a messenger. Here!”

Genki brandishes three scrolls bundled together out of his sack and hands them over to Juzo. Your Sensei opens one of the scrolls, only to reveal that it is completely blank!

“EH!?” Genki cries out. “t-The scroll was a fake?!”

“No no,” Juzo sighs. “that’s just a trick. Watch.”

Juzo places the scroll on the table, picks up his cup of tea, and spills some of it over the scroll. Picking it up again, you watch as Juzo's hands glow a mystical blue aura. He appears to be channelling his chakra into the wet scroll, which suddenly materializes several paragraphs of words!

“Incredible…” Genki whispers.

Juzo reads the scroll quietly while you and Zabuza inch closer to him, trying to sneak a peek at what is written. Before either of you can ask, Juzo abruptly closes the scroll and reaches for another one. He repeats the same process again before moving onto the third one. You can see your partner, Zabuza, is glaring at Sensei as he takes his time reading each scroll.

“Well?” Zabuza murmurs.
“Well what?” Juzo grunts.
“What is it?” Zabuza sighs.
“Oh,” Juzo mutters while rolling up the third scroll. “it looks like the village has given us three separate C-rank missions to choose from.”
“C-Rank?” you ask. “Wow, they’re giving us C-Rank missions already?”

Juzo nods his head while picking up his cup of tea.

“You two should feel relieved.” he says before taking a sip. “Those D-rank missions always suck. All you’d end up doing is patrolling the town at night or standing guard at the village gates. Whichever mission you guys pick now ought to be at least a LITTLE interesting.”

“That’s great!” You exclaim. “So what are they?”

“First choice is some kind of crap about—“ Juzo’s words fall flat as the serving girl re-enters. “dinner.”

“Dinner?” Zabuza grunts.

Both you and Zabuza stare wide-eyed at the large roasted chicken being carried on a platter by the serving girl. She sets it down in front of you all as a second serving girl places several bowls of soup and rice down as well. Its been quite a while since you’ve seen a meal like this.

“Yeah,” Juzo says with a sharp grin. “don’t expect fine dining too often. Especially when the war starts.”

As you and Zabuza salivate at the various food, another serving girl begins to pour each of you a bowl of sake. You raise your hand to her, unsure if you’re really interested. Juzo did give you some as a painkiller before, but…

“What’s the matter?” Juzo asks.
“Well, I’m only ten…” you mutter.
“Ha!” Juzo laughs back. “You’re a Shinobi now. As far as anyone’s concerned, your childhood is over. I’m not going to get on your ass if you decide you want some sake with your meal.”

You stare up at your sensei only to frown at Zabuza, who chuckles at you while a serving girl fills his bowl with sake.

“What?” you sneer
“Ohhh, nothing.” Zabuza whispers with a smile.

You scowl across the table at Zabuza as he sips from his bowl. For a moment you feel like firing back at him with some cutting remark, but instead you turn your nose up and shut your eyes, refusing to indulge in his childishness. However, your Sensei did have a point. By the laws and customs of Kirigakure, you are a full-grown woman and there is little reason why you can’t enjoy alcohol… in moderation of course!

“Yes please.” you tell the serving girl while raising your bowl.

Opening your eyes, you stare down at the bowl of sake and feel its warmth spreading through the bowl to your fingertips. Looking up, you can see that both Zabuza and Juzo are staring at you. Frowning back at them, you raise the bowl to your lips and take a long sip.

“Hm?” you hum, your eyes widening. “That’s… actually really smooth.”

Compared to that harsh bile your sensei made you drink back on the Island of Death, this sake was actually pretty decent. Perhaps having it served warm made a big difference, or maybe your Sensei purposely bought stronger Sake for its medicinal purposes? In any case, you find yourself taking another sip as your comrades share a small laugh.

The meal itself doesn’t compare to your mother’s homemade cooking, but after subsisting on random fish and fruit for a month on the Island of Death this meal tasted like it was fit for the Daimyo. As the darkness of evening began to truly set in, your Sensei leaned back with a chicken wing in hand and a scroll in another. Taking a great big bite out of the chicken with his shark-like teeth, Juzo set the wing down and unfurled his scroll again.

“So here’s what the Village has for us.” Juzo mutters while suppressing a small belch. “First choice is, surprise surprise, taking out a fleet of pirates.”

Your eyes widen as you lower your bowl of rice.

“A FLEET of pirates?” you exclaim. “How many exactly?”

“Somewhere close to a dozen ships, maybe as many as 300 men.” Juzo says while closing the scroll. “These scumbags have apparently been operating for a while, but with the upcoming war it seems like the government is serious about securing the seas. They want these pirates dealt with, probably expect us to go and slaughter them all.”

Zabuza lets out a raucous laugh, bending his head back and showing his own fangs.

“Now you’re talking Sensei!” Zabuza shouts. “When do we set sail?”

“Hang on hang on, you haven’t even heard the other two.” Juzo pulls out the second scroll and unfurls that one. “This one’s a bit more low-key. It looks like there’s a famous soldier in the Ashigaru corps who’s been getting some funny looks. A veteran officer from the last war to boot…”

Zabuza’s smile disappears and is replaced with his usual frown.

“Funny looks?” Zabuza grunts. “Is he some kind of traitor?"

“Possibly,” Juzo mutters while looking over his shoulder. “I guess that’d be for us to find out. IF we take the job.”

You find yourself scowling at Juzo and reaching for your bowl for another sip. To hear that there was possibly a traitor lurking in your midst before the war even started soured your mood a little. After what the rival nations did to your country, how could anyone here choose to side with them?!

“So uh,” Zabuza mumbles. “the last job?”

“Right.” Juzo grunts while unfurling the final scroll. “This one’s an espionage mission. Apparently the Land of Fire has begun to construct some kind of shipyard along their coastline. The Mizukage himself wants to send a team of ninja to the Land of Fire to spy on them, see how serious they are about building a navy.”

“We’d be going to the Land of Fire?” you ask. “Where the Village Hidden in the Leaves resides?”

Juzo nods his head as several thoughts race through your mind. Konoha was one of the villages that ravaged your homeland, including the island you were born on. Your father also spoke at some length on the power of Konoha’s ninja. Is it possible if you took this mission, that you’d get a chance at facing one of them?

“Well, what do you two say?” Juzo asks while picking up his bowl of Sake

“Hmmm, they all actually sound worthwhile…” Zabuza grumbles while scratching his head.

What does Myon do?

“Let’s take the espionage mission.” you say, earning your comrades’ attention. “Isn’t the Land of Fire supposed to be the biggest and strongest of the our enemies? Any chance we get to weaken them, we should jump on it.”

“That’s a fair point,” Juzo mutters while rubbing his chin. “they’re going to be a priority target in the next war. Especially after how well they performed in the last one.”

“You know, I’ve never been outside the Land of Water before.” Zabuza says with a smile. “Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll get a chance to fight some Leaf Ninja.”

“Exactly!” you exclaim, smiling back at Zabuza. “That would be—“

“Not likely.” Juzo interrupts.

You and Zabuza cease smiling at each other and frown at Juzo.

“This is still just a C-rank mission after all.” Juzo says while frowning back at each of you. “The Third wouldn’t assign it as a C-rank if he thought we were going to be up against rival ninja. Hell, if we do this right then you shouldn’t have to draw your swords at all on this mission.”

You and Zabuza sigh as Juzo rolls up the three scrolls.

“Still, this will be a good experience for us all.” Juzo raises the scrolls up and gestures toward the Ashigaru sitting off to the side. “Hey, uh… Genko?”

“Genki.” you correct Juzo.

“Right, Genki.” Juzo mumbles. “Take these other two scrolls back to Kirigakure, tell Lord Mizukage we’re taking the Espionage mission.”

“Yes sir!” Genki says while taking the scrolls. “Hopefully I won’t have to travel too far to meet the rest of the Bloody Four.”

You raise an eyebrow at Genki.

“The Bloody Four?” you ask.

“Uh, yeah.” Genki says with a smile. “The other two survivors of your final test.”

“They’re calling us the Bloody Four?” Zabuza says while squinting at Genki.

You stare at Genki in awe of the news. Already, your fame has begun to spread throughout the Land of Water. With a smile, you begin to wonder how quickly word of your deeds will spread further.

“Well that’s enough partying for me.” Juzo grumbles while rising to his feet. “I’m heading to bed, you two ought to get some sleep soon too.”

“Yes Sensei.” you and Zabuza reply.

Juzo stares at you both for a moment before reaching across the table and grabbing the jug of sake. For a moment, you stare incredulously at him under the assumption that he will take it with him to bed. Instead, he surprises you by re-filling both yours and Zabuza’s bowls.

“You two did good making it this far.” he mutters. “Keep it up.”

With that, he and Genki leave the room. Now it is only you and Zabuza remaining at the dinner table.

After a brief moment of silence, you grasp your bowl of sake and raise it to Zabuza. Your comrade stares blankly at you before grasping his own bowl and returning the gesture. While holding the bowl of sake aloft, you think back to home. Over an entire month has passed since you last saw your honorable father, your gentle mother, and your darling baby brother. Your thoughts also drift to your Big Sis Junko and the mysterious Kasumi. Thinking back on them all fills you with more warmth than the sake itself.

“To my friends and to my family…” you say.

Then, as determination to see them all once again beats within you, you add--

“…and death to all our enemies.”

Zabuza nods, and repeats your last words with the same fervor.

“Death to all our enemies.”

The two of you share one last drink to end the evening. Soon after, the two of you excuse yourselves and retire to bed.

All three of you awaken early the next morning, only a little groggy, before the sun has a chance to rise. By Sensei’s orders, a a sea-worthy row-boat is requisitioned from Kappa Station and brought down to the beach by the Ashigaru. Together, you push the boat adrift into the water and hop aboard. Slowly, the Land of Water becomes a blur on the horizon while you make way for the Land of Fire to face enemies unknown.

A few days pass during your journey across the sea, a long and rough voyage to say the least. You and Zabuza try to do your fair share of the rowing, although Juzo himself rarely takes any breaks as he tirelessly rows across the waves. At one point you consider asking him if he would not like a drink of water from your canteen, but before you can you suddenly spot land! The Land of Fire lies just over the horizon!

“We’ve made good timing." Juzo growls, loosening his grip on the oars. “Hiding-in-Mist Jutsu!”

Your sensei summons a thick mist over the sea before breathing a sigh and plopping down onto his seat.

“Before we make landfall, we should discuss formations.” he mutters.
“Formations?” you ask.

“Yes, its important that we establish tactical formations we can fall back on.” Juzo says while stretching his back. “Formation A will be our usual stance; you two will engage a target while I hang back and provide overwatch.”

He grunts as his back audibly cracks.

“You two are the ones supposed to be learning after all. Formation B will be the opposite; you two will pull back and provide overwatch while I engage the target, just in case you get in over your heads. Finally, Formation C will be retreat… or suicide.”

You and Zabuza stare wide-eyed at your groggy Sensai.

“It shouldn't come as a surprise, but our Village doesn’t have a prisoner exchange plan. Every team ought to have a Formation C for that reason.”

While finishing up his talk on formations, the boat beaches onto solid land and the three of you pull the ship out of the water. The land surrounding you is a great expanse of forestry. Massive trees scrape the sky as if they were mountains while the forest itself appears to go on forever. It is unlike anything you've seen before.

The three of you traverse through these woods after hiding your boat under some foliage. Eventually, you find yourselves atop a cliff overlooking what appears to be a logging camp. Dozens of men are at work, sawing away at some of these massive trees. Every now and then you spot a lone Ashigaru patrolling through this camp, but these soldiers wears red uniforms and many carry axes. Further away along the coastline in the distance, there appear to be multiple wooden piers alongside which are several boats of various shapes and sizes.

“This looks to be the place.” Juzo whispers while hiding behind a tree. “OK you two, how do you want to handle this?”

Zabuza squints down at the logging camp.

“I’ll use the underbrush as cover, listen in on what these lumberjacks are talking about.”

Juzo nods, and then looks to you

You point a finger to the network of wooden piers off in the distance.

“I’ll go take a look at the docks. See what I can find.”

Juzo gives you a thumbs-up before suppressing a yawn.

“I’ll keep an eye on things from here,” he says while rubbing his eyes. “Be careful you two.”

You and Zabuza nod and go your separate ways. Zabuza quickly scurries down the cliffside without making a sound while you make your way through some underbrush over toward the coast. A few minutes later, you come to an abrupt stop atop another cliffside which looks over the vast sea.

“OK…” you sigh, while clasping your hands together. “… here goes nothing.”

Hopping off of the ledge, you dive straight off the cliff toward the waters below.

“Hiding-in-Water Technique!” you cry!

The sea-water rushes up to meet you as your body slides into it without making a splash! A very strange feeling, one that you’ve yet to grow accustomed to even after a month of training, comes over you. Your body shimmers a translucent light while you suddenly become hyper-aware of your surroundings. A sense of weightlessness overtakes your body, as if you were suddenly flying like a bird. It was originally a somewhat frightening experience, but now you have enough experience with this technique to slowly will yourself toward the wooden piers in the distance.

You sense what seems like a village some 20 yards or so away. Just like back in the logging camp, it appears that people are hard at work hammering and sawing away at wood while barking muffled words at one another. As you get closer, some of those words become louder and clearer.

“— like a sea monster!” a gruff male voice shouts. "But it has to be that big to fit so many men inside.”
“I guess, but is it really seaworthy?” a female voice pipes back. "I don’t know if a design meant for river-crossing is a good comparison.”

You have enough presence of mind to know that you lie underneath a wooden boardwalk. Slowly, you lift your head out of the Ninjutsu and above the water’s surface. To your surprise, there is a massive wooden ship under construction not too far from where you are.

“Come see for yourself!” the beefy Ashigaru bellows above you.

It appears that an Ashigaru man is leading what looks to be a female carpenter, judging by her tool-belt, toward the massive boat.

You peer up at soldier and the craftswoman above you through the slits in the rickety wooden pier above you as they disappear inside of the ship. Whatever this vessel is, it appears to be quite important and you intend on giving it a thorough once-over.

>94

Utilizing your Hiding-in-Water technique along with the shadowy cover provided by the wooden piers, you are easily able to swim close up to the ship. As you carefully observe it up close, you suddenly recall a classroom lesson you had well over a year ago in the academy concerning the ancient art of naval warfare. You’re no sailor yourself, and you’ve rarely had the chance to see boats like this up close, but there are a few things about this ship that immediately stand out to you.

Firstly, you ascertain that it is a ship designed to transport quite a large number of men and material. When you notice a few iron plates glinting in the sunlight, you also realize that this ship would be fairly difficult for an attacker to sink. However, you believe that its odd shape and immense weight would make it very unwieldy. In fact, after observing it for quite some time, you feel confident in saying that you doubt a ship like this could survive very long in the open seas.

You highly doubt a ship like this, despite its impressive size and durability, could ever make it to the Land of Water. Such a vessel is likely to be swept off course in a stiff wind, let alone survive a storm. Judging by the conversation you were just privy to, it seems that there is disagreement amongst those in the Land of Fire on how maneuverable this vessel can be but there is no fooling a girl from the Land of Water.

“This thing’s a big floating coffin.” you whisper.

Feeling largely satisfied with what you’ve gleaned from this ship, you decide to report back to Sensei with what you’ve learned. Submerging anew beneath the surface, you use your Hiding-in-Water technique to easily evade the notice of the various Ashigaru and carpenters that walk across the piers. In a matter of minutes, you end the Ninjutsu and walk drag yourself up a secluded beach a few hundred yards away from the shipyard.

“Heh,” you sigh while looking back at the ships under construction. “I can see why you like this technique so much Big Sis.”

About a half hour later, you quietly return to the dense woods atop the cliffside overlooking the logging camp. You end up running into Zabuza first, likely having finished his own reconnaissance work, and together the two of you search for your sensei until you find him leaning against a tree trunk beside his massive sword.

“Sleeping on the job?” Zabuza grunts. “Pfft.”
“Hmph,” you grunt back at Zabuza. “Well he DID just finish rowing us across the sea….”

The two of you slowly over to your sensei, whose eyes suddenly flash open. His hand reaches for Executioner but his grip slackens when he sees it is merely his students approaching.

“Back already?” he asks.
“Sensei, its almost sunset.” Zabuza sighs.
“Oh. Right, so what did you two find?” Juzo mutters.

Zabuza explains what he found first. Lurking in the midst of the lumberjack camp, Zabuza relates how he listened in on the various woodsmen.

“Seems like quite the project,” he sneers. “they pretty much drafted every man they could find from all the local villages. They must be putting quite a bit of money into this operation.”

“Interesting,” Juzo says while rubbing his chin. “what about you Myon?”

You tell your teammates everything you learned about the massive ship they were building, earning a brief wide-eyed stare from Juzo.

“Yeesh,” Zabuza sneers. “they’re really screwing themselves over aren’t they? What good is a ship like that if they can’t attack us with it?"

“Could be they just really want to guard their coasts, or maybe they’re planning on attacking the Land of Lightning?” Juzo mumbles. “Or… they really are that digging their own graves.”

“Heh,” Zabuza chuckles. “I wouldn’t count on a bunch of forest dwellers to know much about sailing.”

You chuckle with Zabuza, earnestly hoping that the Land of Fire was really setting itself up to fail.

“Whatever the case, we should continue to keep an eye on things.” Juzo says while rising to his feet. “We only just got here, there’s no telling what else we can learn."

Over the next two days, you and Zabuza continue to monitor the area just as you had upon your arrival. Zabuza’s Soundless Murder Technique lends himself well as he routinely sneaks into the logging camp and observes their operation continue to expand. Likewise, your grasp of the Hiding-in-Water technique proves very helpful in spying on the shipyard itself as you watch well over a hundred workers put together more large ships like the one you initially found.

Late one evening, while warming up in front of a campfire several miles away in the middle of the woods, your Sensei surprises you both.

“I’m going to return to the Village Hidden in the Mist.” he casually reveals. “Its about time they received a report on what we’ve found.”

“Wait, just you sensei?” You ask while rubbing your hands in front of the fire. “You’re going back alone?”

“That means you’ll be gone for about a week.” Zabuza says while squinting at your mentor. “You really want to go all the way there and back?”

“Ehhh, it won’t be that bad.” Juzo grins. “I can make the journey much faster alone. I’ll simply use my summoning technique to ride a Killer Whale there and back. You won’t get me out of your hair that easily.”

“So… we’ll be working alone?” you whisper.

Juzo’s smile fades.

“You two should be safe,” he grunts while picking up his sword. “just be careful while I’m gone. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

You and Zabuza share a look as the two of you consider what exactly your Sensei WOULDN’T do. After resting by the fire a bit longer, your sensei breaks camp and leaves you both behind to continue the mission.

The next day comes and goes without much of a fuss. The initial excitement at being practically all on your own steadily wore off as you continued your usual pattern of subterfuge. You and Zabuza reconnect at the end of the next day, share what you discovered and then quietly enjoy a modest meal in front of a campfire before falling asleep.

It is the day after that, when something out of the ordinary happens.

“What the Hell is going on down there?” Zabuza growls while peering down at the logging camp from the cliffs. “Where did all those Ashigaru come from?”

You stare down at the clearing in the middle of the woods and see that roughly a dozen Ashigaru soldiers have seemingly arrived along with what looks to be a horse drawn carriage.

What does Myon do?

>Stealthily venture down into the logging camp to find out what’s happening?
>Send Zabuza to sneak into the logging camp and find out what’s happening?
>Quietly infiltrate the logging camp with Zabuza and find out what’s happening?

Danzo stoking tensions was 70% of the reason the uchiha were going to rebel anyways, all that killing him does is means he doesn't make pointless enemies with dumb black-ops Hiruzen assumes aren't pointless or actively sabotage the village. Hell, it might even mean Orochimaru sticks around, there's no way he wasn't helping him out with that shit so there's probably way less for rochy to actually get CAUGHT with.

Whatever is going on down there has to be big to have caused a commotion like this, and you’re feeling eager to find out what it is firsthand.

“Hey Zab,” you mutter. “I can’t see anything from this high up. Let’s go.”

“Heh, this oughta be good.” Zabuza sneers

The two of you hop off the cliff and scurry down through the woods. With all the noise being made, it is child’s play for ninja like you to make it down to the logging camp. Finding a few wide branches high up in the trees, you and Zabuza perch yourselves above the chaos unfurling below.

“Everyone stand back!” an Ashigaru yells.

The door to the carriage swings open and out steps a man decked in red armor, wearing a ridiculously big hat and carrying what looks to be a whip in his hands and a sword by his side.

“Who is in charge here?” the man in the funny hat yells. “I demand answers!”

Out from the crowd steps a much simpler looking soldier whose youthful countenance reminds you somewhat of Genki from Kappa Station.

“s-Sir!” the man squawks. “We were not expecting… uh, what brings you here Sir!?”

The man in the funny hat brandishes a scroll and unfurls it before the soldier.

“I demand to know why progress on this fleet is taking so long?!” he yells. “War could break out any day now, and you have yet to complete HALF of the warships requested by the Fire Daimyo.”

The younger soldier’s eyes widen

“s-Sir, w-we don’t—“

“IMBECILE!”

You and Zabuza watch as this man begins to slap the younger soldier with his whip.

“What the Hell am I watching?” Zabuza grunts. “Who’s this fucker?"

“Beats me.” you shrug. “I guess he’s a general. Or maybe nobility?”

“Hmmmmmm.” Zabuza hums, absentmindedly drawing a kunai knife.

“Its obvious to me that you have all been complacent!” the warlord shouts. “I believe an example will have to be made!”

“This moron’s in over his head, look.” Zabuza grunts while pointing his knife at the lumberjacks. “They outnumber his men easily, and I doubt Dickhead here actually knows how to use that sword.”

“Perhaps my new enforcer will teach you all a lesson.” Dickhead shouts, pointing his whip at his carriage. “Reveal yourself! Come out! Come out and punish these foolish peasants!"

You and Zabuza watch as a figure steps out of the carriage and roars!

“SHUT THE FUCK UP! I HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME!”

The general’s eyes nearly bulge out of his head and the two of you nearly fall out of your tree! Emerging from the carriage’s shadowy confines is a girl who looks to be just a few years older than you, with dark violet hair worn in a short spiky ponytail. Her slender body that is easy to see even from this high up, as she wears a sleeveless fishnet mesh shirt that leaves little to the imagination along with a pair of dark shorts and knee length combat boots.

“Can’t I finish my freaking lunch in peace?” she grunts while brandishing a wooden skewer of Dango buns. “What is it now?!”

Everyone assembled on the ground floor gawks at the scene that has unfolded as this mysterious girl takes a bite out of one of her Dango buns.

“I-YOU!” the general grits his teeth before jabbing a finger at the man he was whipping a moment ago. “KILL THIS FOOL!”

Everyone gasps at the young girl, who stares blankly back and forth between the general and his unlucky subordinatel.

“Pffft.” she begins to crack up. “Yeah right! Put that on my list of shit I’ll forget to do. Man, that list just keeps growing lately!”

The general’s face turns beet red while Zabuza taps your shoulder.

“b-Big Sis? Is that you down there?” you mutter as Zabuza shakes you harder. “What?”

“Her forehead!” Zabuza grunts.

You glance back down in utter amazement. On that girl’s forehead is a Konoha Headband.

“A Ninja of the Hidden Leaves!” you whisper.

“Well it seems like you’ve been pretty forgetful too your excellency,” the girl says while swallowing her bite of Dango. “so I’ll remind ya! My name’s Anko Mitarashi, Chunin of the Hidden Leaf! The guy I take orders from wears a much cooler hat than yours, and he told me to be your bodyguard. Not your hitman-for-hire! Maybe your boss should have paid more!?"

While chaos continues to ensue down in the camp, you and Zabuza share a look.

“She seems pretty distracted,” Zab whispers while raising his kunai. “we may not get a better chance.”

Zabuza may be right. This girl is on a roll, you don’t think she’d see an ambush coming. Right now could be the opportunity you’ve been dying for; a chance to finally do battle with a rival ninja! Your body begins to shake involuntarily in excitement as you imagine crossing blades with this Anko Mitarashi. But, is now really the time…?

What does Myon do?

>Attack Anko!
>You attack Anko while Zabuza takes out that general!
>Tell Zabuza to take out the general while Zabuza goes after Anko!
>Don’t attack now, plan an ambush later while there’s still time!

You smile as your sword is slowly drawn from its scabbard, yet before you can unsheathe your blade completely you freeze up. You’re on a mission of espionage, swooping in and revealing yourself now would be a huge mistake!

“No.” you grunt, placing a hand over Zabuza’s shoulder. “i-It’s not worth it.”

“What?” Zabuza scowls. “Look at her, she’s begging to get stabbed with a stunt like this.”

“I know!” you whisper. “But if we did that, they’d know we’re here. Juzo-Sensei trusted us, w-we can’t attack.”

You wince as you sheath your sword, denying yourself a chance to test your blade of one of your village’s chief enemies.

“Gah!” Zabuza growls, but there’s little he can say to contest you. “Fine, screw it.”

Zabuza puts his kunai away while shaking his head at the spectacle on the forest floor.

“Argh, I hate it when you’re right.” Zabuza huffs. “Let’s just get out of here. Now.”

Zabuza stands up and slides his back against the trunk of the tree.

“The longer we stay here, the more likely she might notice us. Let’s go.”

You nod, and slowly stand up as well. Sneaking past these laborers and conscripts was an easy feat for one trained in Soundless Murder Technique, but a rival ninja… a Chunin? You’d have to move fast, lest you tip your hand.

Not wanting to stay any longer after committing to leaving, you take a deep breath and follow after Zabuza who is already dashing from tree branch to tree branch. A master of Soundless Murder, your comrade has little difficulty beating a hasty retreat. However, you will have to focus a little harder if you are to escape a Chunin’s notice when you are right above her nose.

You leap through the air, hopping onto another branch without disturbing so much as a leaf. After that, you quickly scamper down it with your wall-running ability before slinking from trunk to trunk. When you make it roughly a hundred yards away, you can still strain your ears and hear something of a commotion going on. It seems Anko must still be there, and thus it is likely you eluded her notice. She seemed like the boisterous type, you figured if she did notice you she would have given chase.

A few minutes later and you’re back atop the cliff, Zabuza crouching near the edge.

“Looks like Anko and Dickhead are leaving.” Zabuza grumbles.

“That’s… good.” you sigh.

Looking over the woods, you both can see that the sun is setting. The day has ended, and the two of you can say you’ve gathered yet another bit of promising news. The local military warlord appears to be woefully incompetent, which is good news for the forces of the Hidden Mist. As for the immediate mission, his arrival does apparently complicate matters. When you and Zabuza survey the area from afar the next morning, you find that the Ashigaru have increased in numbers. It would seem that work on the Land of Fire’s fleet has accelerated.

You both are quick to inform your sensei of this news when he finally returns at the next sunset. Before you can inform him the arrival of more Ashigaru and this Chunin Ninja, he shows you both a handful of scrolls and says.

“Our mission has changed from Espionage, to Sabotage."

So Im seeing a few ways of sabotage:
1 Put a rock(large) in a possiton where the ship whas likely to bump against it causing some damage(limited). Dont put an explosive tag on it that might backfire or start a war. Considering theese are unwieldy vessels it might be best to not sink them but rather just cause maintenace.
2 If we do have to sink them then we can try figuring out the resonant frequency and try to sink the that way. The power needed to do so is large but one could do it do it with staggered explossions on alternating sides of the ship.
3 Alternatively we could try to make their dock useless by blocking the exit with under water rocks. Or setting the whole thing on fire.
4 Now if we want to have fun we should figure out who are the key people and assasinate them. Lead engineer, designer, foreman, local lord, carpenters(the good ones), etc.
5 Forrest fires are fun too... but I'm guessing they've (phonetic~"Dave") had a few and can deal with them accordingly.

My ranking would be: 4, 1, 3, 2, 5, etc.

Your sensei takes a seat under an old tree, its branches casting a long shadow over him as you and Zabuza stand by his side. You and Zabuza inform him on all the recent happenings, all of which Juzo responds to with a slow dull surprise.

“Hmmm, I didn’t want either of you going up against other ninja quite yet.” Juzo hums. "Maybe we should call the mission off?”

You both balk at your Sensei, but before either of you can loudly protest in a panic he cuts you off with a wave of his hand.

“Nah, its too late now.” Juzo sighs. “Too much is riding on this mission. Can’t turn back, not until we’ve done something about that fleet.”

Zabuza breathes a sigh of relief before looking down at the scrolls lying by Juzo’s thigh.

“So what exactly did they tell you when they meant ‘Sabotage’?” Zabuza asks while peering down at the scrolls. “And what are these?”

Your Sensei slaps away at Zabuza’s hand when he attempts to pick one up.

“Those are Explosive Scrolls, very special ones.” Juzo grunts as Zabuza grips his slapped hand. “The 3rd himself imbued them with his chakra. He’s the only one who can set em off.”

Your eyes light up as you stare down at the scrolls.

“That’s awesome,” you say. “he can just activate them whenever he wants?”

“Well, they’ve got a long range to them,” Juzo replies. “but they’re not that powerful. Just enough juice in them to start a small fire, which is all you need to take out a ship.”

Sensei rises to his feet and picks up the scrolls.

“The Mizukage was happy to learn how unprepared the Land of Fire’s Navy will be, I swear I think I even saw him smile, but he said it wasn’t enough.” Juzo says while frowning at you two. “Even if this fleet can’t hope to invade the Land of Water, they can still do a good job of defending the Land of Fire’s coast. The 3rd wants to take the fight directly to the Land of Fire at some point, so this fleet needs to be dead in the water when they need it most.”

You and Zabuza stare quietly at Juzo, your hearts beating a little quicker while your Sensei grips these scrolls tight.

“But, this is still supposed to be YOUR mission.” he says, his demeanor lightening up with a sharp smile. “So tell me how you want to go sabotaging this fleet?”

Zabuza hums to himself while looking back over his shoulder toward the shipyard.

“I say we infiltrate the docks at night, sneak onto some of these big boats that are almost finished and stuff them inside.”

Juzo nods and looks to you for your input.

Though this is the most straightforward plan, even if we fully succeed with the plan Konoha's going to know It's us. Makes me wish we had some genjutsu to coerce some peasants with. Not like they can know for certain whether they were influenced or just angry peasants, because that general is a dick. I however have no faith in us being able to talk-no-jutsu them into blowing up their own shit though.

It's funny that the Mizukage suggested these were defense boats, not attack boats, because here I was thinking Konoha was about to play 4D chess and have Minato literally teleport loaded boats right on our doorstep with his sealing shit.

You mull over Zabuza’s suggestion for a few moments before smiling.

“I’m in,” you say. “let’s get many of the ships as we can…. but maybe we should leave the big ones alone. I think they’re already death traps without our help.”

The two of you chuckle as Juzo closes his eyes, apparently in deep thought.

“Hard for me to say what goes through the 3rd’s head sometimes,” he mutters. “must be planning something.”

You and Zabuza cease laughing upon seeing what a serious mood your sensei is in. As the woods fall quiet, you think back on what you saw earlier with that strange Ninja.

“Sensei?” you ask, earning Juzo’s attention. “What happens if we run into Anko?”

“Well, technically war hasn’t broken out yet between any of the Five Great Countries.” Juzo mutters. “However, between Shinobi it doesn’t matter if there hasn’t been a formal declaration or any open battles. We all know war is coming, and I wouldn’t be surprised if skirmishes between Ninja haven’t already happened.”

“Heh,” Zabuza smirks. “guess there won’t be any last minute peace negotiations eh?”

Juzo’s typical frown sours into an all-out glare, silencing Zabuza’s snickering.

“Zabuza, Myon.” he grunts. “You will hear some ninja talk about ideals like honor and the pursuit of peace. These people are lying, either to you or to themselves. At the end of the day, all of us are trying to claw our way to the top. We just got to make sure its us and our village who's king of the hill and not them.”

You feel a little uncomfortable at the palpable anger in your sensei’s voice. He was normally so laid-back, but something about what Zabuza said apparently rubbed him the wrong way.

“As for this Leaf Chunin, whatever you do don’t tip her off to our plans.” he sighs. “If she gets in the way, kill her if you can. If not… Formation C. We’ll be leaving as soon as you’re finished booby trapping those ships anyway, so hopefully we won’t run into her.”

You glare over your shoulder at the shipyards off in the distance while grasping your sword-handle.

“I don't care if she's a Chunin, I’ll take her.” you sneer.
“Same here, any day of the week.” Zabuza growls.

A few hours later, night falls over the vast forest. A cool wind blows through the trees while stars cast a gloomy light throughout a cloudless sky. You and Zabuza stare at the sleepy shipyard below, the wooden piers and small workshops lit up by the lanterns of dozens of Ashigaru who appear to be on patrol. As this operation has grown, so has security.

“I’ll prepare the rowboat shortly,” Zabuza says while looming over you both. “until then… Formation A.”

You and Zabuza scatter, speeding off toward the shipyard together under the cover of darkness. As you approach the docks, you break off from another without saying a word. While Zabuza carries on toward the ships, you make a hard turn away from the harbor and instead slip into the water.

“Hiding-In-Water-Jutsu!” you whisper

Slipping back into the watery depths just beyond the coast, you begin to ethereally shift your form through the seawater and toward the shipyard.

>85
>Great Success

Hiding beneath the water’s surface as well as a night sky, you find it quite easy to make your way into the shipyard. The Ashigaru guards walk above you, making their presence known as their footsteps creak above the rickety wooden walkways, and thus you are able to duck down and evade their notice whenever they draw close. Spotting a docked vessel, a smaller and sleeker one that appears to be made for ship-to-ship combat, you clamber inside through an open window. Using the light from the starry sky outside, you are able to find a crawl space of sorts where your Remote Explosive Scroll can be hidden.

“Never see it coming.” you say with a small smirk.

Slipping back outside, you find another fast-looking ship of sorts and repeat the same sabotage tactic as before. You creep like a shadow from here to there, leaving a hidden explosive in your wake. Eventually, you find that you’ve successfully planted nearly all of your scrolls in these ships save for one. Looking over your shoulder, you scan the harbor and spot what looks to be a somewhat large ship that’s likely meant to carry supplies. You slip in through an open window and plant a scroll underneath a loose floorboard beside what looks to be several crates filled with weapons and food rations. You’re positive this scroll will deal some serious damage.

“We shouldn’t be back here.”

Your heart skips a beat as you hear a man’s voice. You slip behind a barrel and watch as a figure with a lantern creeps into this storeroom.

“Relax, no one will know.” a different voice barks back. “That booze is in here somewhere, no one will notice if as single bottle goes missing.”

Narrowing your eyes, you distinctly make out three Ashigaru soldiers.

“If our lord finds out, we will surely be put to death.” the third man hisses.

“Then we must be quick. Come on!”

You suddenly find yourself in a difficult spot. Three different men are creeping towards you, the light of a lantern beaming across the area. If you’re not careful, you will surely be spotted.

You hold your breath, internally cursing these men and their lust for alcohol. To think that such foolishness could jeopardize your entire—

No! By the gods you are a Ninja, you know you can escape! Focusing all you can on the sound of all three of their footsteps, you quietly slink behind several barrels and make your way around them.

>73
>Success!

Judging their distance through sound, and by keeping a watchful eye on their shadows, you deftly maneuver around these simple men as they open up a random barrel here and a loose crate there. Taking advantage of their inattentiveness, you seize an opportunity to make a break for it. Breaking out into a silent run, you rush past a soldier whose back is turned to you and make your way to the top of the deck.

“Yes!” You whisper, beaming up at the stars above and breathing in a fresh gasp of cool air.

With a devilish grin, you look back across the docks and admire your handiwork. You’ve managed to plant the Mizukage’s explosives in quite a few ships, and judging by the lack of alarm you wager that Zabuza has been largely successful on his end as well. Suddenly, while surveying the scene, you notice a slight mist begins to fall over the docks.

“Zabuza?” you mutter.

Running up your ship’s main mast, you sprint to a higher vantage point and look out across the piers. You are able to tell almost immediately that this is the Hiding-in-Mist technique. Judging by where the cloud of mist appears to stretch, you are able to guess that Zabuza has likely conjured this fog in order to help cover his escape.

“I guess we’re done here.” you mutter while wiping a little sweat from your brow. “Boy are these guys in for a surprise, heh heh.”

Diving off the mast, you splashlessly slip into the water once more with your Hiding-in-Water technique and make your way back to the boat.

It is proving a little taxing, having to constantly enter and re-enter the water with your newest jutsu but the drain on your chakra is minimal. Aside from the tension of having to physically sneak past guards, you’ve barely put any strain on your body. You actually feel rather proud of how handily you evaded so many men, you’re looking forward to telling your father all about this upon your return.

Peeking your head back above the water, simply to grace the Land of Fire’s fleet with one last smug smile with your sharp teeth, you find something you weren’t expecting in your peripheral vision. It would appear that another layer of mist has appeared up in the forested hills.

“The Hell?” you squeak. “Zabuza… you idiot, what are you doing? Conjuring mist up there?!”

Your thoughts begin to race as you wonder what could be going on in the woods. There would be little reason to suspect difficulty moving through such thick underbrush undetected. Unless, someone was specifically searching for him. The only one you’d suspect would be doing so is—

“Anko Mitarashi.” you growl. “They must have run into each other!”

You glare up at the misty woods. Zabuza is quite strong and capable of looking after himself…. but Anko is a Chunin, surely that must speak volumes of her strength. Truth be told, you would feel a little jealous if Zabuza got to fight one of the Leaf Nin and not her, so perhaps you should go and assist him. Then again, she may prove challenging even for the both of you. Meeting up with Juzo and alerting him might be a safer course of action, although the meeting spot by your boat is much further away.

What does Myon do?

In your excitement, you nearly break your hold over your Ninjutsu to rush over and enter the battle! However, you end up halting yourself and taking a deep breath. To rush into this fight without knowing what is happening would be foolish, if there is indeed a fight going on. With a determined glare, you slowly sift through the water until you rise up from the waves and walk across the sandy beach with a hand gripping your sword.

“Damnit Zabuza,” you growl. “you better leave some of her for me.”

Rushing up a tall tree nearby, you slowly step from branch to branch while making your way in the direction of the thick mist. You take your time, mindful of any possible ambushes that could be in place, until you find yourself standing near the very top of one massive tree which overlooks a lonesome road. The thick mist is as obtrusive as ever, definitely Zabuza’s work. You begin to weigh the pros and cons of entering the mist, when something on the forest floor draws your attention!

>Zabuza vs. Anko
>67 vs. 98

Your eyes widen as Zabuza rushes out of the mist, moving so quickly that his scarf bandage trails in the air behind him. He slinks behind a tree, one hand gripping his kunai while the other grips his gut. He appears to be breathing heavily.

“Leaving so soon?” a young female voice calls out. “C’mon, don’t be like that!"

Turning your gaze back to the mist, you watch as Anko strides out into the open with a kunai in her grasp that drips blood onto the forest floor. Her head scans the area as Zabuza stands perfectly still behind a tree trunk.

“Ugh, lame!” Anko chuckles. “You have any idea how disappointing it is, spending weeks babysitting the biggest loudmouth in the Daimyo’s army, as your FIRST C-rank mission?! And now, when I FINALLY get to see some action, my enemy wants to play hide and seek instead of fighting!”

You narrow your eyes. It appears that whatever scuffle happened in the mist did not go in Zabuza’s favor, which is odd as that seems to be when he is at his strongest. So how did Anko…

“You can run Mist-Nin but you cannot hide,” she hisses. “because I can smell your BLOOD!”

You gasp as a snake-like tongue slithers out of Anko’s mouth!

"Nani?"

In an instant, she brandishes a second kunai in her off hand and flings it at Zabuza’s tree. You nearly shout out at Zabuza to warn him of the explosive tag attached to her kunai, but he sprints away at the last second! The resulting explosion pierces your ears and sends splinters flying in all directions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPCLFtxpadE

“Ha, found you!” Anko cries out.

Zabuza growls, his shoulders rising and falling as he glares down the road back at her.

“Now, let’s finish this…”

“Zabuza.” he sneers. “And if it will shut you up, then gladly.”

Can she keep it up though, under our onslaught?

She might be better trained than us, but it seems she's not too much more experienced than us, if her boast was true.

Let's use a three jutsu combo. We get above her with the soundless murder technique and tree walking in the mist and then use the Dragon Hammer Flash. And let's not scream it this time, cut her right in half. Or at least take an arm.

You watch with bated breath as Zabuza and Anko stare one another down. Zabuza glares while Anko smirks as the tree hit by the explosive tag groans. That same tree begins to smoke, slowly catching fire as it crashes down to the ground between the two of them. When the wounded tree hits the forest floor, the two ninja charge!

They clear the distance between each other in an instant and clash atop the hulking fallen tree. Zabuza draws another kunai, which clangs loudly as it clashes against Anko’s kunai. The two hack and slash at one another, their weapons echoing throughout the woods. Zabuza keeps up well, despite his injury, but Anko isn’t giving up any ground either. The two ninja continue to fight a bit longer, apparently at a stalemate, until Anko shouts—

“STRIKING-SHADOW-SNAKE-JUTSU!”

Seemingly from out of the thin mesh armbands on Anko’s right forearm emerge a multitude of hissing snakes! Zabuza growls as he hops back, the snakes lashing out at him all at once like the legendary multi-headed hydra! One of the snakes bites down on the kunai in Zabuza’s hand, ripping it from his grasp while the others stretch toward him with their jaws open wide!

“Damnit!” Zabuza grunts, reaching for his sword!

Your heart skips a beat; Zabuza looks to be attempting an Iaido-Draw but his Nodachi is too long!

*CRUNCH!*

You stare down at the skirmish as the snakes chomp into Zabuza’s scabbard, letting loose a single breath you didn’t realize you were holding. Stepping further away from Anko, Zabuza tears his sword from the scabbard that the snakes bite down on.

“Man, you’re pretty tough.” Anko chuckles, her snakes slithering back into her armband. “I didn’t think you’d put up a fight like this.”

“Heh,” Zabuza exhales. “you’ll be really surprised when I kill you.”

Anko heartily laughs at Zabuza who seems to be catching his breath.

“You’re a funny guy,” Anko laughs, raising her kunai up to her mouth and giving it a lick. “Hmmm, and you taste good too. You got a girlfriend Zabuza?”

“Hell no.” Zabuza sneers. “I swear all you women are crazy.”

Anko breaks out into more laughter as Zabuza takes a battle stance with his sword.

Its clear that this fight isn’t going in Zabuza’s favor. If you don’t step in, Zabuza could get killed! However, Anko doesn’t seem to have noticed you at all yet. You are in a unique position to strike her down without warning, but can Zabuza last that long? You’ll need to come up with a plan now.

What will Myon do?

>Charge in and attack Anko now!
>Use Soundless Murder Technique to sneak closer and prepare to strike Anko at her most vulnerable!
>Use Dragon Hammer Flash, hit her with everything you got NOW!

Maybe something tricky we can do is yell at Zabuza for ruining our "reconnaissance" mission. Hopefully she'll believe our mission was foiled before we could watch or do anything and therefore won't order a search of the port after the fight.

You can’t risk Anko landing a fatal blow, this fight ends NOW!

“You’re finished.” you hiss while leaping from your tree branch! “DRAGON-HAMMER-FLASH-JUTSU!”

Descending upon Anko like a hawk swooping in for its dinner, you fall to the forest floor with your katana raised high to strike! During your descent, Anko’s attention slowly drifts from Zabuza and up to you. Her eyes wrench open in fear and confusion as your blade comes down for her!

>49
>Failure

“STRIKING-SHADOW-SNAKE-JUTSU!” Anko cries!

She raises her kunai-wielding hand and a swarm of hungry snakes stretch up in the air at you! You tipped your hand too early!

“GAH!” you sneer while swinging with your sword!

In an instant, all of the snakes are bloodily decapitated. Some of their blood splatter across your body before your feet touch the ground. Anko is already stepping back, putting distance between you and her while dodging a few shuriken thrown by Zabuza. To your dismay, your ambush has failed.

“Two of you?” Anko squawks. “Crap, how many of you were hiding in that damn mist?!”

“Myon…” Zabuza mutters, walking up by your side.

You steal a quick glance at him while facing Anko. His movements appear sluggish, but there is still murderous intent in his eyes.

“w-Way to ruin our recon mission Zab.” You grunt. “We barely even got to see that fleet of theirs.”

Zabuza doesn’t spare a glance at you, but simply nods back in reply.

“We’ll look as much as we like,” he yells back. “after we carve up this Konoha-nin.”

“Like Hell you will.” Anko says, regaining her grin. “Take this!”

You and Zabuza brace yourselves as Anko tosses several kunai your way! Yet, neither of you find reason to dodge as a burst of several kunai sails past your bodies. Before you can respond in kind, Anko is already speeding through a pattern of hand signs.

“Snake, Rabbit, Dragon, Tiger!” Anko shouts.

The entire forest lights up at once, but you don’t dare look back! In the light of what can only be flames, you spot what appears to be a thin wire. Zabuza looks to be close to that wire, which is enough to convince you to reach out and slash at it whilst you run. Glancing back, you spot several fireballs traveling across several more wires before exploding into various trees embedded with Anko’s kunai blades.

“Elemental Jutsu,” Zabuza grunts. “she’s been trained to use fire in battle!”

“Screw that,” you cry back. “let’s take this fight back to our home turf!”

The two of you leap high into the sky, summersaulting through the air before landing atop a watery surface. Both of you exhale, while turning toward and staggering away from a cliffside. The forest up above appears to have been lit up by Anko’s flames, a very flashy and destructive use of her powers.

“Crazy bitch.” Zabuza sneers.

“You’re damn right!” Anko shouts back, flying from the forest and landing atop the sea’s surface.

“You two picked the wrong ninja to fight.” She cackles.

What does Myon do now?

>Rush her with Zabuza, attempt to overwhelm Anko together!

Having retreated to far more favorable ground, you believe you now have an opportunity to get the best of your foe. With your Hiding-in-Water Technique, you believe you'll be able to aptly dodge whatever her next attack might be.

"Zabuza," you grunt. "I'm going to draw her in and--"

"Here comes the pain train!" Anko bellows, charing ahead.

With no time to speak any further, you rush over to meet her attack!

>54
>Close Failure, DC 55

You raise your sword, but only for show. Channeling your chakra through the water beneath your feet, you come to a stop and close your eyes.

The next instant, you know nothing but PAIN. You have enough presence of mind to know that you've been cut, but then your body seamlessly melds with the watery depths. Anko landed an attack on you, likely with her kunai, but you were still able to complete the Jutsu.

>42

You are aware of a fierce battle up above you, listening in on the muffled clanging of kunai and the fierce grunting that is all too similar to what you've learned to hear from Zabuza. You know that you successfully pulled off the Hiding-in-Water technique, if not a little late. Still, it was not quick or clean enough to give Zabuza an opening.

Anko must be wondering what happened to you, perhaps she assumed shebroke your concentration and fell beneath the waves. If not, then maybe Zabuza is distracting her enough for one last defiant strike.

>End the jutsu and rise up behind Anko to slash at her!

It becomes difficult to focus on what’s happening above. You know you are wounded, but you have little idea how badly as your blood disperses through the water. Fighting back the pain is difficult, but you manage to stay focused enough to concoct your next move.

You can sense Anko right above you, she’s winning her fight against Zabuza. You won’t let either of you fall against her!

>94
>Great Success

Your blood begins to boil as you break your stealth jutsu and reach up through the waves! You hear a cry of shock as your left hand firmly grasps Anko’s ankle and yanks her down. You then come face to face with Anko, bubbles pouring from her mouth while she wildly flails in your direction. The two of you grapple onto each other, although a hand of yours still firmly grasps your sword.

This battle has turned into a desperate struggle; neither of you can use hand signs like this, and swinging your sword about is almost too impractical to work. Even while running out of air, you intensify on your foe and try to grasp victory whichever way you can! This is your first real battle against an Enemy Ninja from a rival village, one of the same villages that shamed your people in the past! Your refuse to lose to her!

What will Myon do?

>Try and strike her down with your Katana!

Making no attempt to break contact, you entangle yourself further with Anko. Having grown up by the sea, you are no stranger at all to swimming. You are in your element, and you are determined more than ever to drag Anko to a watery grave.

>87
>Great Success

Despite your injury, you manage to overpower Anko, pulling her in close while the two of you drift about underwater. Slipping your sword-gripping arm around her neck, you apply pressure to your enemies throat. If she wasn’t panicking before, then she definitely is now. Her arms flail and her legs kick, but you refuse to let go while bearing down on the enemy.

“ACK!” you hear her voice crack underwater, but it doesn’t faze you in the slightest. All the matters is the kill, you will not—

*CRACK!*

Anko stops struggling, and falls limp in your arms. A single gasp of bubbles slips out of her mouth while you stare, your face practically pressed up against hers. For the next moment, you are aware of little else save the pounding of your heart and the terror frozen in Anko’s face.

“…”

You let Anko go, and she floats weightlessly away from yourself. Shuddering, you suddenly become far more acute of your own need for air. Reaching upwards, you kick and and claw your way toward the surface until two other figures suddenly appear in the water! Fear flashes through your mind, fear of suffering a fate like Anko’s, until those two figures swoop in on you and grab you by your arms. Without the strength to resist, your eyes flutter closed and you—

“HACK!” you sputter upon rising above the waves into the cool open air.

The next minute or so is an agonizing coughing fit while you slowly spit out the water that was lodged into your lungs. By the time your finished, you feel as if a fire in your chest has just been snuffed out.

“Gods,” you croak. “aaaaaaah."

Lifting your soaking wet head, you glance to one side and see Zabuza gripping your arm. Looking to your other side, you also see Zabuza. Standing in front of you, and breathing a little heavily, is yet a third Zabuza. You are able to deduce fairly quickly that the two that rescued you are Water Clones while the third who remained safe is likely the real Zabuza.

“You get her?” Zabuza asks.

Without the strength to speak, you simply nod.

“Good riddance.” Zabuza spits into the water. “Let’s get the Hell out of here.”

Instead of replying, you continue to regain your breath while Zabuza’s water clones drag you over the water’s surface. The four of you walk off in the direction of your Sensei’s boat, eager to return home after a hard-fought and successful mission.

Yet, you come to a stop atop the waves after only walking a short distance.

“z-Zabuza?” you croak. “What is it?"

Zabzua, the REAL Zabuza, turns to you with a glare..

“I thought you said you killed her?”

You narrow your eyes and find the strength to stand upon the waves without the water clones’ assistance.

“I snapped her neck,” you growl. “her corpse lies at the bottom of the sea!”

“Then what is that?”

You look over your shoulder to whatever Zabuza is pointing at, and find a sight you never expected. Bubbles are rising to the surface from where you last struggled with Anko.

“Impossible.” you gasp.

I forget a lot of nart, what's the deal with the mark again and why's it on Anko in the first place?
>>
>>3114881
Orochimaru couldn't achieve sage mode, so he did a bunch of research on a guy name'd Jugo's biology and came up with the curse mark.

It's basically a hack to allow the user to use sage mode. He can also use it to see through people's eyes and reincarnate himself from it should he die.

Anko has it because she was one of the first batch of people he tested it on. She was the only survivor.
>>
>>3114881
curse seal is orochimaru's quick hack to power and influence. it makes the user stronger, which makes people join him, but its destabilizing for the mind and contains a piece of his soul that he can use to resurrect himself. anko's his student (and probably test subject)
>>
>>3114897
So activating it heals the user as well? What's required to activate it anyway? I tapped out of nart before it actually explained any of this.

Nothing. The cost is that if you use it too much you lose your sanity/will. (Makes you better minions for Orochimaru).
>>
>>3116187
That only sort of answered one question. It didn't mention healing outside of replacing lost limbs with snakes so I guess she has a cluster of snakes for a neck.

Well, it's not like the manga ever took a chapter to explain the exact abilities granted by the seal. If she can replace lost limbs, then she definitely had healing powers. It stands to reason that she might be able to recover from a broken neck with some similarly snake-flavored business
>>
>>3116842
pretty sure a broken neck kills all snakes. I know cutting there head off typically does.
>>
Don't think too much about it. Kishimoto sure didn't.
>>
>>3116842
With what I remember from the sasuke retrieval arc, each of the sound four had unique transformations. Superhuman physical abilities and some degree of a healing factor should be a given, but I remember kimimaro making harder than steel arrows from his spit and shit like that, and sasuke got goddamn shield wing hands.

So basically Kishi gave people whatever he thought was cool at the time.
>>
>>3116842
I wasn't expecting like a full episode but there's so many villian monologues and flashbacks that I thought it must have been more fully explained by a certain point in the series.

Plus you would assume a broken neck would fuck with it somehow.
>>
>>3117442
A broken neck in Narutoverse is equivalent of stiff neck in real world.
>>
>>3117401
To be fair, Kimimaro had the Cursed Seal of Earth while Sasuke had the Cursed Seal of Heaven. Also you're probably thinking of Kidomaru (member of sound four, spider themed) with the arrow spit thing rather than Kimimaro (previous leader of sound five, bone themed)

The stark absurdity of what you are seeing is enough to send your heart racing once again. You KILLED Anko with your bare hands, you are certain of it… and yet, air bubbles are rising to the surface where you left her body adrift. A multitude of explanations arise in your head; some kind of medical ninjutsu, or perhaps it was a clone of some kind you had been fighting, or maybe she still clings to life somehow? None of these excuses satisfy you.

“Myon,” Zabuza grunts. “Can you fight?”

You stare blankly at Zabuza, unable to give him an honest answer. Now that you’ve been able to regain your breath, you take a moment to examine the wound Anko inflicted earlier. There is a hole in your leather jacket and a cut along your rib cage, but as painful as it feels after getting dunked in salt-water the wound isn’t bleeding terribly much.

“I can fight,” you mutter. “I still have plenty of chakra in me, and the cut Anko gave me isn’t that deep. What about you?”

“I’ve,” Zabuza growls. “I’ve used up a bit of chakra and lost a bit of blood, but I'm fine”

A quick once-over of Zabuza shows you that he has received multiple cuts on his body, including the slash at his gut from when the fight first started. Dark red blood stains much of his body now.

“Whatever happens,” Zabuza grunts. “I still have my Water Clones and my sword.”

Zabuza seems determined to face any odds, but you’re not sure how much of that is merely bravado. A part of you actually feels concerned that he might be at his limit, but you know Zabuza too well to ever expect him to admit that. You’re going to have to be the one to make a call here, whether you stay and ensure Anko is slain or you leave the scene of battle and return home.

What does Myon do?

There's no reason to continue the fight. We've accomplished our mission. That being said, a clever idea if Anko doesn't let us leave is to brag/lie about how we've successfully distracted her long enough for our sensei to kill the General. “Sensei told us to kill Anko if we could, and if not…” you whisper.

“Formation C?” Zabuza answers.

You nod and turn your back on the bubbling surface of the water. It was aggravating, being unable to confirm whether or not you truly killed Anko after all that fighting. However, you have no reason to suspect Anko of knowing what you two accomplished here tonight. The fleet should remain sabotaged regardless of her fate.

“Let’s go.” you mutter.

The two of you break out into a run across the seaside, successfully putting a great amount of distance between you and Anko(?). Glancing up at the woods, you can see that the fire has spread. You can faintly hear men shouting up there in the thick of it all, evidently doing their best to end the forest fire. Several of these men appear on the beach with buckets which they quickly fill with water. You and Zabuza are forced to run further away from the shore to remain hidden, but soon enough the two of you make it back to where your boat originally beached itself.

“There you are.” Sensei calls out.

You look around for where Juzo is, only for him to suddenly emerge atop the water in front of you. Evidently, he too had been using the Hiding-in-Water technique.

“Into the boat.” he commands. “NOW.”

Out of breath and pressed to hurry up, you follow your Sensei’s command. Together with him, Zabuza, and Zabuza’s Water Clones, the foliage concealing your boat is cleared away and the boat is pushed into the water. By the time it begins to break free from the shore’s current, Zabuza heaves and collapses onto his back while his two Water Clones man the oars.

“Zabuza?!” you cry.

“Damnit, what happened back there?” Juzo sighs while manning his own two oars. “Forget it, just tend to his wounds."

It would appear that this battle took far more out of Zabuza than he was letting on. It was a rather unsettling sight to see him reduced like this, it reminded you of how you were after facing that tiger over a month ago. This was a hard battle, and you can’t even say for certain if it was a victory or a draw.

“Ow.” Zabuza whispers. “Ack.”

Several hours later, under the morning sun, you try your best to wrap a fresh layer of bandages over one of Zabuza’s several injuries. Thankfully, your team managed to find a tiny island where you could lick your wounds away from the Land of Fire’s border.

“Gah! Take it easy!” Zabuza sneers. “That hurts worse than when I got it in the first place.”

“If you’d stay still for five seconds I’d have finished by now!” you growl. “Gods…”

Juzo sits several yards away under a tree and beside Executioner, silently rubbing his chin while you took care of your teammate. He’s barely said a word since you left the Land of Fire, and a part of you is worried he might be upset. You and Zabuza both explained to him what happened last night, and by extension you learned a little more from Zabuza. Apparently everything on Zabuza's end had gone as swimmingly as it did for you right up until Anko caught his scent while patrolling the woods. Juzo’s been frowning ever since the two of you told him that you were unable to explain that strange bubbling in murky water. He apparently can’t decide for himself if Anko is dead either.

What does Myon do now?

>Ask Juzo if he’s ever heard of Anko?
>Tell Zabuza that he should be more careful?
>Just get some rest, it’ll be a long journey back home and you'll still need to report back to Lord Mizukage?

After finishing up with Zabuza’s bandages, you take a seat beside him on the beach and breathe in the familiar sea-salt air. You still can’t get over how bright it is out here compared to home. It makes you idly consider getting yourself one of those straw hats, or maybe a pair of sunglasses, if you’re going to be taking more missions like this. Yet what’s bothering you most right now isn’t the bright sun…

“Juzo-Sensei?” you call out. “About Anko…"

You twist about in the sand to face his familiar frown.

“Do you think we made the right decision?” you ask. “Should we have stayed behind, or done something else?”

Juzo doesn’t cease frowning as he clears his throat and asks—

“Did you complete the mission?”

“Well, yeah.” you reply with a nod.

“That’s all that matters.” Juzo says. “The life of one ninja isn’t going to end up making a difference. The intelligence you’ve gathered on behalf of the village and the Explosive Scrolls you planted? Those WILL make a difference.”

You slowly begin to smile at Sensei.

“I guess…” Zabuza mutters.

“Ha!” Juzo chuckles while leaning forward. “You two can be so gloomy, you know that? You did what you had to do and got out alive, so cheer up!"

Juzo’s laughter ends as he leans back against his tree.

“You two will get plenty more chances to kill rival ninja.” Sensei grunts. “Give it a few weeks, there’ll be a bloodbath waiting for you somewhere.”

“I’m looking forward to it,” you say. “but I wonder if the next ninja we fight we’ll be as strong as her? Did you ever hear of Anko before Sensei?”

“Anko Mitarashi?” he replies. “No, I hadn’t. If she was as young as you guys said she was, then I doubt she would have made it into my Bingo Book.”

“Bingo Book?” Zabuza asks.

“Oh right.” Juzo says while rising to his feet. “Here, maybe you two would like to look yourselves?”

Your sensei walks up to you and Zabuza with a black book in his hand. Crouching down behind the two of you, he presents the black book with another small grin.

“They issued me this little thing years ago, back when I first made Jonin.” he chuckles while dropping the book into your hands. “Its a long list of pretty much every ninja of note in the world. Village Kage, missing-nin, veterans from the last two world wars, and those who the Mizukage have personally singled out to be ‘kill-on-sight’ targets.”

You open up the book as Zabuza scoots up close by your side. The two of you peer down at various pictures of ninja from rival villages, all accompanied by a pargraph or two detailing their known abilities and favored jutsu. Some of them even appear to have large bounties on their heads, enough to make a man rich.

“Your last foe doesn’t have a spot in here,” Juzo says while flipping a page. “but if she’s really as strong as you two said she was then maybe she’s got a family member in here. Most of these entries also have lists of the targets’ closest friends and teachers. If you look hard enough, maybe you’ll find something?”

You flip through the pages at random, flashing by various faces you’ve never seen and skimming through names you’ve never heard. Try as you might, you can’t find a single other Mitarashi of note or anyone who looks like they could be related to Anko.

>72
>Success

Just as you are about to give up, you come across a single word.

“Snake-jutsu?”

You and Zabuza blink at one another before flipping a few pages back and coming face to face with a Konoha ninja with pale white skin, long black hair, and slitted eyes that seem reminiscent of a snake. You quietly speed-read through his file and learn that this man is named Orochimaru.

“This snake guy looks like a bitch.” Zabuza grumbles.

“Hmm… look! Underneath where it says ‘list of students’.” you reply.

“I’ll be damned.” Zabuza says.

According to his file, Orochimaru was himself a student of Hiruzen Sarutobi, who currently reigns over Konoha as the Third Hokage. It also goes on to explain that he was a member of a squad called the Legendary Saninn, a group you’ve heard of in passing several times before.

“Yeeesh.” Juzo mutters. “You two went up against this guy’s student? No wonder you had issues, this ‘snake guy’ and his two teammates practically won the last world war for Konoha."

“So you DO know this one?” Zabuza asks.

“Not personally, but he’s definitely someone to look out for. Might end up Hokage one day.” Juzo adds.

On the one hand, hearing all this is sort of a relief. You hadn’t been struggling against just any ordinary ninja, but the student of someone who could be Kage-material. However, this does make you wonder even more if Anko found some way of surviving your battle with her.

“Well, I’ll be sure to put this into our after-report when we meet Lord Mizukage.” Juzo says while retrieving his Bingo Book. “He may even raise the Mission pay-grade to a B-rank. Oh well, let's keep a move on.”

You nod and get up to your feet with Zabuza. Moving back into the boat, the three of you continue to row further away from the Land of Fire and back toward your homeland. Your spend much of the remainder of the journey dwelling on the information you gleaned from Juzo’s Bingo Book.

When you became Juzo’s student, you became linked with the Elite of the Shinobi world. It used to be that you were but the daughter of a relatively unknown Clanless Chunin. Now your life is changing rapidly as your skills improve and you clash with other powerful Ninja from the other reaches of the world. You can’t help but think on how your fame and fortune might continue to grow.

And, you can’t help but wonder if somewhere somehow, another ninja might be looking down at your name in a Bingo Book.

I feel like this is a good high-point to end the thread on. Not sure when I'll continue next with the Holidays around the corner, but I'll be sure to give you guys a heads up in either this thread or maybe /qtg/.

Hope you guys had fun! I was a little worried ya'll would lose interest in this after Myon's Final Test was over but it still seems like we're going strong. If you guys have any questions for me, or any ideas where you might like to see the Quest work with, please let me know!

Thanks for running Banzai

Thanks for running, it's been fun. I look forward to the next one
>>

THAnks for running dude.
>>

I’m actually curious about one thing. How real can the butterfly effect get with the addition of Myon to the setting? how likely is it that (assuming we get there) that nothing from the actual series will be the same?
>>
>>3118312
You're handling the quest pretty well so far Banzai, thanks for running.

>>3118476
I bet it could get very real, depending on who we meet and who we kill off. Juzo's comment about Orochi being Kage material is actually making me wonder what the setting would look like if Orochimaru ends up winning it all and landing Kage position in place of Minato.
>>
>>3118527
Well, I guess we wouldn't feel bad about fighting the village that eventually brings about world peace
>>
I'm looking forwards to the future Anko Rivalry. That will be cool. Especially if her drive to kill us actually makes Anko Git Gud.
>>
>>3118628
If we haven't killed her by then, then we deserve to get shanked by her.
>>
Finally caught up again with the quest. Good job on the mission, guys, when I started seeing low rolls against Anko I thought we were fucked.

Regarding what was said before about waifuing girls, I think Myon should either be straight or at least willing to marry a suitable man. Kirigakure isn't Konoha, but it's still a world of retardedly strong bloodlines, family techniques and eugenics.

>>3118312
So far so good, man. War could be a clusterfuck if it's a full-on armies clashing kind of deal, though, with jutsus flying everywhere and shit.
>>
>>3116733
She's a cutie.
>>
>>3118628
Yeah being killed kinda changes your world view. I wonder if she'll have persistent problems or if the curse mark fixed it.
>>
>>3118740
Yeah, she may not be so reluctant to use her seal on the future because of this. Though to be fair, Orochimaru hasn’t gone rogue yet so she may still have a change of heart later.
