Previously on 999 Quest:

You and your allies came together in one last push to finally defeat the anomaly that had taken Red and Blue, and was seemingly behind whatever had happened involving the hunger spirit you had encountered previously. Despite the entity's furious attempts to tear you down and dissolve you, you managed to fight on through its final assault and destroy its core, collapsing its main mass and finally ending the nightmare.

With its death however, two objects were left behind. One of them, a dark sliver of power, quickly shot into the skies and vanished. And the other, you're currently running an arm across, feeling the magic beating within it as you and your five friends walk down the city streets in drizzling rain, retracing your steps to the hotel.

"[Are you sure we're going the right way? We aren't going to get lost in another shady interdimensional alley, are we?]" Blue jokes, breaking the quiet.

"[So long as you stick with us and don't run headlong into anything, we should be fine.]" Purple responds, not deigning to look back at him. Instead he moves up to peer over your shoulder.

"[What do you think it is, Orange? Aside from being a pocketwatch, I mean. It WAS critically important to that spirit, but other than its supposed value, I'm not sure why we'd have to risk our lives over the thing.]"

Huh. Good question. What IS this thing anyway?

>attempt to connect with crystal we gave him and communicate through it
As you walk, pondering on how to answer Purple, you come to a dead stop. Of course! How did you not think of this!

"[Orange?]"

Ignoring Purple's confused enquiry, you dig around in your mass for your Dream Trinket, before pulling out a chunk of your own flesh.

Holding out the trinket, and the piece of flesh, you start using the trinket's power to boost your own strength, molding the mass of flesh into a rather familiar shape.

Within a few seconds, what dances and flows with flame in your palm is a new spirit crystal, ready and waiting to be used.

Holding it up, and over your head, you put as much energy and faith as you possibly can into the crystal, causing it to shimmer with light.

For a brief moment, it looks like nothing happens. And then the world *freezes*.

Looking around, everything except you and your friends has gone dim and grey. Like those old shows you'd sometimes see on Foundation television sets. But you don't have time to take in the scenery, because a familiar vice whispers behind you.

"So...we meet again, spirit."
>>

Vuindred? How have you been, friend! We've been doing fine everything's fine, well... mostly fine

The flickering mass in front of you, vaguely in the shape of the ancient Archmage, makes a sound almost akin to a sigh.

"Even now, you retain that irritating optimism/<confidence>, creature." It looks up, flickering skull gazing down at you with sockets full of orange light. "But I suppose that is why you are such an intriguing entity."

"But alas! I am not Vuindred the Black himself. Not in full. I am an echo of that shaded divinity, a mass of <reason> that has come to answer your call. Though the totality of myself still persists, he has been lessened in ways, due to that Abyssal incursion that developed within the Shaded Palace."

"In many ways, spirit, I must thank you. Were it not for the thaumic reactor you so graciously gifted the Palace, things could've been much worse." Again, his eyes twinkle with shining stars and blazing lights.

[shapeshift into a kitten with big eyes]
Vuindred (or is it his echo?) looks at you. And whilst you can't really tell his expression, you just know he's giving you an incredulous look.

"Spirit, even I struggle to understand what you're hoping to convey/<express> when you are like this. The most I managed to <receive> from that spew is that you wish to know the nature of some entity or another. Am I correct?" his eyes flare up a bit.

>>3882027
>Show him the watch and ask him what it is.
You take out the actual pocketwatch this time, and wave it at him. Let's see if this is easier to understand.

"Blorble-blorb?" you ask.

The archmage drifts closer, using his magic to pull the watch from your grip and hold it aloft, slowly inspecting it. He does this for what seems like a minute, before his eyelights flicker somewhat.

"This is a highly-elaborate anchor for a greater entity of some kind. I can feel its power even in this state, full of traces of a nature of consumption and desire, but kept in a state of perfect order and symmetry. A containment field perhaps? Or a stabilizing force for whatever it is bound to? Fascinating."

He turns back to you, carefully considering you and your companions.

"Where did you find this, creature? Speak quickly."

As you finish explaining, you feel the world get heavier around you. As if something is weighing you down, even with Vuindred here.

Vuindred's eyes flicker again, the lights twisting and spiralling as he processes the information.

"The Fifth Church."

The words are said like a whisper, but they still make you shudder.

"Spirit, this," he waves a flickering bony arm to the watch "is an artifact that is suffused with the power of Rank 4 spirit, amongst other things. Whilst not particularly powerful on its own, its nature makes it an excellent means for other spiritual entities to maintain their power and form. It offers a kind of stability that most high-rank spirits inherently lack."

"If the Fifth Church intended to use this for their macabre designs, to the point in which they'd pull an incarnate manifestation of something so alien into our reality, then I shudder to think of what would've happened had they succeeded."

He looks down at you, handing the pocketwatch back.

"It seems I have much more to owe to you, spirit. Much more indeed." he chuckles, a low, rattling sound.

"I'd advise you hurry on back to the spirit who gave you this. It's a part of them, and will be safest in their care once more. Ask whatever questions you may have remaining, and then be off."

>woah also ask him hows it going for big wizard who he echos and what happened and hows it going?
The echo of Vuindred hovers off the ground, flames dancing in the air around him as he raises a skeletal hand to his chin area.

"My <totality> has used the thaumic engine you acquired from Arcadia to carry the primary part of of the Shaded Palace away from danger, but not only is he presently drifting throughout the vast flow of the greater Tellurian, many shards of the original wholeness of the Palace have crashed into the Fallen, unbeknownst to the Sleepers and the majority of lower-order entities. But the greater ones..."

For a moment, the echo flickers violently in and out of existence, flaring red and forcing all of you to move back from his overwhelming rage. For a brief instant, you get the feeling like all the space around you has given way to a cold dead space of lifeless ash lacking oxygen and a deep well of all consuming fire pulling all things into its beating heart of flames-

And then it is gone, and Vuindred is there, flickering and hovering off the ground as if his rage had never been a thing.

"...Apologies, spirit. My own 'displeasure'/<irritation> leaked through far too strongly. But as I was saying: Yes, the greater forces of the Tellurian have noticed fragments of the Palace that have fallen into the Fallen. Whilst the Seers and the Iron Seals care extremely little for them, with the Ministries knowing of their purpose only vaguely and having given up on thrm after all their attempts to siphon them ended up failing , I have felt an extensive corruption of the purpose of the Palace's fragments. Twisted Infrastructure buds out from the very essence of myself, and saps power that I will need to reclaim as soon as possible."

"Whilst I would normally entrust you to go out and reclaim the Palace fragments, I doubt you are strong enough to oppose that damnable Machine and its machinations, so I shall refrain. Especially since this city has its own problems you'll need to solve first."

He chuckles again at that last part. Well, isn't that ominous.

"If this is the last of your enquiries, spirit, then you may dismiss this summoning. Ah, but wait-one more thing."

He waves his hands through the air, and a set of four items appears. An elaborately decorated tome of some sort, a large gleaming red warhammer with flames bleeding off of it, a pair of rune-encrusted gauntlets that almost seem to howl with power, and yet another book, but not as elaborately designed as the last.

"You and yours may pick from these as you wish, creature. Consider it a gift."

"The Warhammer doubles as a staff of flame, forged by a Master ages ago, and infused with the last remnant of a long-forgotten spirit. To bathe the world in flames was its sole purpose originally, but I suppose you may well change that, creatures."

"The tome is a collection of powerful spells, potent workings that can bend and shape the existence of the Fallen, allowing potential travel through the layers of Astral Space. It was scribed by a Mastigos, who made it to put all their findings along with their accumulated depth of knowledge, before unmooring it from the folds of reality, and destroying their own mind to prevent the secrets from ever being found again. Whilst I'd normally debate its value to you spirit, you've already proven that many rules do not apply to you."

"The Gauntlets were ripped from the body of a great spiritual predator and molded into their current form. They howl with its screams and the chill cold of Death. The world falls to accelerated decay and metaphysical instability at their touch, and being what they are, they are malleable and can shift to the will of their wielder."

"Finally, the Nameless Book is a collection of my own research and some spells I thought would make for good practice for you, spirit. Bound with my own essence, it is connected to me in much the same way as my Palace is, though to a far lesser extent. I considered it fitting to make, considering the gift you gave me so long ago."

"Blorble-blorb!" you reach up to take the various gifts, before distributing them amongst yourselves.

When the Warhammer of Flame is given to Red, it resonates with his own internal power, bathing both in a wave of flame and light for but an instant, before Red draws it into the Warhammer, which quickly and quietly shifts into a red staff, the tip of which holds a diamond-like shape. Red quickly stores it somewhere in himself after regarding it fondly, and gives you a big genuine smile.

>Warhammer of Flame gained!

Purple takes the Tome of Astral Travel, opens it up, And skins through a few pages of it, looking at it intently before finally closing it with a nod. He looks up to Vuindred and seems most appreciative. "[Thank you, sir. This is a most excellent catalog of spiritual workings. I'll put these spells into practice immediately.]"

>Tome of Astral Travel gained!

Blue is up next, taking the Gauntlets of Decay with a positively giddy attitude. The instant he takes them, their howling increases, practically becoming an echoing roar before finally dying down as Blue seemingly *wills* them into obeying him. They quickly prove the point of them being malleable as they warp and stretch over Blue's body, pulling over it like some kind of weird body armor or plating, energy rippling off of them. And grinning like a loon, Blue allows the Gauntlets to snap back into their original form, before pulling them into his body for safekeeping.

"[I could get used to that.]"

>Gauntlets of Decay gained!

Finally, you take the Nameless Book, which doesn't do anything asovertly flashy as the other three. But you feel the raw power beating within it. The essence of Vuindred beating in your hands, his knowledge and skills know added to yours.

>Nameless Book gained!

The msot you can do is simply hug it close, and blorble happily in thanks. It's a very good gift indeed.

>Ask how to recognise a shard of his realm if we were to run into it
"You will know it by the way reality distorts and bends around it, spirit. As well as the general look. It would be unmistakable to your senses."

>Then thank Vuindred's avatar (?) for his gifts and tell him to not hesitate to call if he needs help
The skeletal Archmage makes a sound akin to laughter.

"That I will do, spirit! That I will do indeed. Ah, but I'd advise that you eventually get those Bone Charms of yours better enchantments. They'll wear down eventually."

"[Wait, couldn't you do it?]" Blue asks, seeming confused.

"Well yes I could but..."

The mage leans down.

"You never asked."

And with that, reality snaps back in place to the laughter of an archmage, who has completely vanished from sight as time starts once more, and your crystal goes dead and still.

"[What a dick.]"

Storing the now drained spirit crystal and going over everything with everyone ("Cack! Much merryberryfriends on the ring-around get gifsqueeze!"), you continue on against the rain to the hotel.

It takes only a few more turns and bends before you end up reaching the door to the hotel. And something seems...off. You're fairly certain it's too bright and too colorful, standing out amongst all the buildings next to it.

The way the double doors shift and shimmer also doesn't help.

Purple shudders a bit, as the energy partially wraps around him as he tries to wave it off.

"It's Notes-Of-Hunger's essence. It warned us that it needed the watch, and factoring in what Vuindred had said, it seems like its loss has made the spirit increasingly unstable. We're just seeing the natural resulta of that."

>>3884381
>Break off a piece of your mass, mold it into a shape of a fly and have it fly in and back then absorb it and see that's inside
Deciding to do the smart thing instead of walking right inside to what may be a trap, you instead break off a piece of yourself, molding it into the shape of a small fly, before flying it into the small crack between the doors.

>Construction (D+++)

Once you can confirm it's inside, you direct it to fly back out before allowing it to be absorbed back into you. And as it becomes part of you again, you get the information it managed to gather from inside.

The immediate insides of the hotel seem fine on a first glance, nothing in the lobby looking out of place. But that's only until you factor in the unconscious bodies littering the place, and the remnants of half-eaten food, along with those half-conscious enough to continue pushing themselves to eat whatever's around. In the air around thrm, the strange multicolored shimmering essence wraps around and flows into their eyes and mouths, giving them an odd alien tint. At the other end of the lobby, you see the doors to the cafeteria are positively clouded in the stuff, preventing you from peering inside. And a strange sweet 'smell' seems to waft from there.

You quickly dismiss the information, and look to the front doors. Something's definitely amiss.

OP, can I just say I'm living the writing right now? Like wow

>>3884460
>Go inside and take civvies out of the building
Alright, Step 1: get the civilians out of the building. They're definitely being affected by the stuff in there, and it's either compelling them to constantly consume more and more, or it's distorted their perceptions heavily.

So that's what you decide to do, pushing open the doors with everyone else behind you, before you all start to systematically pull the people out of the immediate vicinity of the multicolored gas.

>Use our power to put them in content euphoria if they keep trying to eat
Some try to resist, actively straining against you in their attempts to stuff themselves full of more food, so you and the others are forced to put them in a state of tranquil euphoria in order of get hem out of the building safely.

...Well, three of you at least. Blue just smacks them upside the head hard enough to knock them out and basically starts pushing them out the door. You hope they aren't too hurt from his roughness when they wake up.

>Spanko and Blackwood call ambulance and tell them there has been a nasty food poisoning
Spanko and Blackwood pretty quickly move over to the receptionist's desk once you've gotten most of the people outside, with Blackwood taking over the communications due to Spanko's...issues when it comes to communicating with most people.

"Hm, yes. I'd like to report a severe case of food poisoning at this location. Please send medical professionals as soon as you're able to this address and locale. Yes, we can give you some numbers-"

>Question the civilians once they're out
And whilst they're doing that, you and your counterparts/brothers start questioning the civilians, most of which are currently emptying their stomach contents out onto the pavement now that the spiritual effect is no longer clouding their minds.

"It was horrible." one man says, dressed in a pretty fine suit. "One moment I'm just letting down waiting for some water, and then the next I'm jsut so very *hungry*. I don't know what came over me, but it was awful."

"I felt like I couldn't stop eating. Couldn't stop, couldn't stop-"

"Urggh, my stomach still hurts. Where's my mom?"

Most of what you get is just variations on the same. They all suddenly came under an affliction that compelled them to eat as much as they could. And judging by what some of them have said, there are still more people in the cafeteria and some parts of the hotel, likely still under the effect. And it has to be worse for the cafeteria-goers, being so close to the source of it all.

>Test the watch out against the multicolpured essence in the lobby
You decide to brave the lobby once more, pushing open the doors and stepping through, with the watch raised in front of you.

The shifting essence of Notes-Of-Hunger freezes up, going shock still at the presence of the watch. And thrn, sloely but picking up the pace, the essence begins to drift into the pocketwatch, which hums with a multitude of colors in response.

Guess that proves this thing is some kind of stabilizing element for Notes, then.

>Enter cafeteria with watch for protection and dream trinket for extra
Orange - center
Now's the moment of truth, and finally getting the watch back to its proper owner.

You raise the watch at the cafeteria door and the thick haze of multicolored smog obscuring it, watching as the same process of it all getting pulled in repeats. And once it's all gone, you decide to take up center of your group, making the beginnings of a kind of defensive formation.

>Blue and Red - front
Blue and Red are next, taking point at the front, ready and waiting to open the door into the dining area with their new weapons ready to snap into action at a moment's notice.

>Blackwood, Spanko and Purple - back
Finally, Blackwood, Spanko and Purple take up the back of your formation, completing your defensive position.

Raising the watch in anticipation, you motion for Blue and Red to push open the door.

When the cafeteria door is open, and you all start to move in, you're almost immediately hit with a disturbingly sweet smell, complete with the room being obscured in a pretty heavy cloud of smog. And as you walk, *soemthing* squelches beneath you, wet and dripping.

And before you know it, you catch sight of a body, just hanging limp in the dank air. And then two more beside it. And then you start seeing dozens more, as the watch begins to filter out the thick essence. All of watch are just hanging in the air, mouths agape. The sound of shuffling plates and the sizzling of cooking food echoes around you.

"~YoU yoU YOu you you you you YOU'RE LATE~"

A heavily distorted, yet awfully familiar voice ripples out of the darkness, seemingly originating from all around you, mad giggling denoting its presence.

"~I'VE BEEN waiting waiting waiting waiting. Now, LET'S EAT~"

>Observe entity. Perhaps we can gleam something from it (and level up our skills)
>Let it make the first move
You decide to do the obvious and quite clearly best thing you can possibly do.

Namely, nothing. You'll give it the first move.

"[Wait, Orange. I don't think this is such a good idea-]"

Purple is a bit too late there, as out of the darkness a very distinctive and familiar face emerges, albeit horrendously twisted.

The marble 'face' of Notes-Of-Hunger leers done at you, bits and pieces of it breaking off and floating off before dispersing into more multicolored essence. Its already mad eyes glint in the dim light with an even more intense and strange hunger, which is not at all helped by the gaping void where a mouth would normally be. Where once its mass was composed out of something at least approaching a body, now all that remains is a maelstrom of twisting energy, barely keeping itself in check enough for a simple manifestation such as this, let alone an actual attempt at communication. Waves of what you now know to be raw concentrated hunger roll off the thing as it begins to gather more and more of itself, with even the bodies of the hotelgoers being dragged about at its whim, pulled on by the wisps of energy leaking into them and connecting them.

>Observant (F++)
>Observant (F+++)

The twisted mass that you had once recognized as being Notes-Of-Hunger leans down at you, human puppets following the movement. And you realize in that instant, as the host of possessed bodies pimply hang with gaping mouths, what's been happening to them.

It's *feeding* them.

You see bits and pieces of food, once obscured by the swarm of collected energy and darkness, just flowing down into the hotel guests open mouths, filling them up over and over and over again, with some cases basically needing to have the food forced down their stuffed throats with how much they've eaten.

One particularly bloated guest is shaken a little TOO harshly by the spirit in its movements and its desire to feed them more and more, that their over-stuffed body reacts in the only natural manner that such a thing could, and it ruptures. The man's body bursts into a mess of meat, bone, and barely digested food. Notes makes a sound that you could *almost* mistake for sadness at the display, but quickly goes back to focusing on you, seemingly completely forgetting the poor man who just died right in front of it.

"~OoooooOOooh, you poor things. LoOk at you! Soooo tHiN! You need some more to eat! Lots more!~"

Around you, the clatter of plates and pots and pans grows louder. And the almost impossibly enticing smell of food wafts through the air.

"[Orange, I think now's a good time to use that fucking watch.]" Blue can only gulp out, taking a step back as the spirit gathers a large array of exotic looking dishes, and things you are fairly certain don't count as any kind of food.

"I concur, my boy." Blackwood responds in agreement.

>Purple - Chains of Harrow
Deciding quickly on the best course of action, you manage to send the plan to deal with this to Purple, and hope he's able to the same for everyone else.

With little hesitation, Purple raises his arms as several chains shoot into the open air, batting aside and incinerating the gathered assorted dishes and trying to loop around Notes-Of-Hunger to try and bind it. But you watch as thry find only some purchase in that strange mass of pseudo-matter, as Notes' form very quickly shifts in response, causing several of the chains to be violently dispersed, whilst others start to tangle themselves up.

>Spanko - sonic blast at the plates and pots
Spanko covers a lot of ground frighteningly quickly, his mouth wide to unleash a mighty "CACK!" directed squarely at the hunger spirit.

Notes tries to react to counter it, spreading its mass outwards to lessen the force of the blow, but it's not enough. The sonic burst tears straight into it, blasting away its defensive layers of essence, and sending several of the humans it held motionless in the air falling to the floor. Its mask starts to visibly crack more, even as it makes a sound in between a snarl and alien giggling.

>Orange - shove the watch into its mouth
Now it's your turn.

Leaping up, you raise the watch high, watching as the spirit's essence starts to swirl into it as you rapidly approach its face. You reach out as far as you can, desperately trying to reach its mouth.

But Notes-Of-Hunger manages to be faster, quickly recovering from Spanko's last assault, as it launches waves of cooking utensils coated in its own burning essence at you.

You manage to break away from your original trajectory, avoiding the volley of superheated silverware, and tumbling to the ground. But that jsut prompts the spirit to launch another burst directly at the ground, requiring you to roll away as the spirit's attack strikes the ground and causes several tables to get torn right through.

>Everyone else - defend
Blackwood, Blue and Red are there when you move over to your friends, having taken up defensive positions against the raging spirit, which swirls with its odd and alluring colors and dnticing smells...

Shaking your self out of the haze, you watch as Notes drifts over the ground towards you, with an almost playful and lazy-seeming approach to it. It's as if all of this isn't even something *serious* to it. It's just some 'game' it's playing in its madness, where everyone is compelled to eat forever, no matter what consequences arise from that.

Time for a wakeup call, you think.

>Orange and Purple - Snow storm the Spirit of Hunger
Notes-Of-Hunger moves through the air, mass rippling as it approaches and the smell of food grows. A strange titter of alien laughter rings through the air as it closes in, swarming at you.

Well, you aren't having any of that. Raising your arms in sync with Purple, you draw upon arm such of the frigid cold as you possibly can, the energy swirling about in response to the trinket within you. And together, you set it loose as a concentrated beam of force.

>Snow-Storm (E++)!

It doesn't really seem to harm the spirit, but it DOES slow it down enough for a little breathing room to be afforded.

>Red and Blue - Advance and engage in melee. Blue attacks as he has a weapon made out of a spirit predator and Red guards him
Red and Blue then proceed with their followup, the two of them moving in quickly to try and engage the spirit in direct combat, Blue shoots forward with his Gauntlets snapping into existence and slamming into the main mass of Notes-Of-Hunger, which hisses in apparent pain as the powers of the weapon take effect, causing its essence to break down into piles of grey dust that fall and coat the floor.

The angered spirit lashes out at him with a tendril, intending to slash him with it, only for Red to barrel in and stop the attack cold with his Warhammer, the massive weapon blazing with his own purifying fire for a moment before the ill-meaning limb is torn asunder.

The hunger spirit tries to draw back then, but Blue is having none of it. Leaping forward again, he slams both fists of his gauntlet into the framework of the entity's 'face', cracking and splitting it in half, and causing it to elicit a scream of pure anguish as its essence starts to bleed away into grayish dust.

>Blackwood and Spanko - Knock out the humans in cafeteria
Meanwhile as this is going on, Blackwood and Spanko are knocking out the humans and taking them out of the cafeteria as fast as they can. At least the ones that can be saved.

Blackwood pauses, just as he hands off another youth to Spanko who unceremoniously tosses them head over heels out of the cafeteria, and then he turns to you.

"999, my dear boy. I do believe it's time to give the poor thing back its watch. I suspect it has learnt its lesson from all this rudeness today." he says, sounding quite sure of his words.

"[I'd also advise we do it before any local law enforcekent comes by here.]"

>bring watch to the entity while it's distracted by Blue and Red
'Time to finish this', you think.

Leaping into the air a bit, you propel yourself forward with a burst of spiritual fire at the height of your jump, spiralling forward past Red and Blue on the ground and slamming into Notes with as much force as you possibly can, sending it reeling back.

It attempts to promptly counter you using its multitude of arms and essence-woven limbs, slamming them at you and focusing rays of purest hunger down on top of you. But you move too quickly for it to properly focus you down, slipping through the major cracks in its defense to move in for the finishing blow.

It hisses as you draw our the watch, and attempts to reach for it, grasping claws eager to break and crush, but you don't let it. You swipe at them with your sword from your other arm, and you manipulate your form to veer up and around the burning utensils it spews in your direction. And beofre you know it, you're right in front of it, its body twisting and bristling with clear animosity.

It opens its mouth wide, a hateful bubbling sludge rising up from that crack porcelain feature and the void behind it. And that's your cue.

Putting as much force and as much power into your limbs as possible, you raise the pocketwatch. And with a single mighty shout, you chuck it as hard as you can at the spirit's opened mouth.

It flies truth, hitting home and sliding cleanly into the void and the burning muck, completely vanishing form sight as the hunger spirit chokes back the rancid-smelling substance it was about to drop on your head.

For a moment, nothing happens. The cafeteria with all of the clattering of pots and pans and the sizzling of grease and oil goes dead still.

And then a flash happens, blinding brilliant, as the spirit's essence all starts to funnel together and swarm over itself, twisting and building and *laughing* as it all comes back as one.

In but a few moments, the mad tide of multicolored essence is gone, leaving a very familiar clownlike visage, but 'changed' somehow. Less mad, you think.

"~Ohohohohohohohoho, it has been too long since I last felt so whole!~" it chuckles, voice less a mad giggle now, and more a deep booming chortle.

"~Ah, I must thank you, dear lesser-of-kin. Were it not for your efforts, I would be surely lost myself in that cacophony of sounds and voices. That void of mindless hunger.~"

Again, the clown laughs. You're still not sure if you like it.
>>

>>
>>3890874
>Hahaha, yeah can you let Purple go now?
"~Oho? Ah yes, your kindred! Hold on a moment.~"

A flash of light emits from Notes-Of-Hunger's eyes, mirrored by Purple's own body glowing to meet it. Then it stops, and Purple suddenly takes in a deep breath before letting it out.

"[T-That...was quite...relieving.]" he pants out, trying to calm himself. "[Feels like great weight has just released me.]"

"~I deeply apologize,~" Notes says, eyes showing its sorrow. "~Without a means to anchor myself, my own nature got the best of me, and I may have caused my own mark to latch on too strongly.~"

Whilst you're a bit hesitant with the clownlike spirit, it does seem to be more in control of itself now.

>And btw what made you go mad? Losing that watch to someone?
"Blorble blorble blorb?"

At your questioning, the hunger-spirit seems to darken, body crackling with wisps of violet energy.

"~The Fifth Church. They removed my anchor, sought to fuel their own vile plans with it whilst I lost myself to my own power. They didn't even think to kill me. Perhaps hoping that in my madness, that the Hunters would come an do the job for them instead.~"

There's that name again. 'The Fifth Church.' The name sounds familiar, but it just doesnt quite connect. But they're the ones who stole Red and Blue. And they apparently drove Notes to madness and indirectly caused so much harm to so many.

You're really starting to dislike them.

>Enemy gained - The Fifth Church: A bunch of crazed nutjobs who stole Red and Blue to power their 'god', along with a mystical item belonging to the spirit, Notes-Of-Hunger. Whilst you haven't seen that much of thrm yet, what you've dealt with so far definitely makes thrm no friends of yours.

"~Ahhh, but that seems so distant now. Come, lesser-of-kin. Ask what you wish of this scion of hunger! Though I have not left this place in many years, I am quite familiar with this city and those that would call it home.~"

>A Uratha pack recently left this town do you know of any other supernaturals in this town?
"~There are many of the Hunters here.~" Notes begins. "~Whilst the loss of one pack might be felt in the bones of this city for a time, others shall fill in. As for other spirits in this city, I know of some:~"

"~The Court of Silent Tides gathers within one of the humans educational zones within the Flesh. From what I last recall, they were in a struggle with the interlopers from another land, the Red Court of Delirium. Their war has found itself all across the city, soilling over from Shadow to Flesh, spirits entering in a violent conflict to either retain their home and domain, or to conquer all who are here. My domain has mostly been untouched, but even I have come to fear that the Red Queen's servants will target here next. Unfortunately, the current state of the conflict is unknown to me, for I lost my anchor before then.~"

"~The Grandmother has come to this city. Its rotten and bloated form entrenching itself within the Shadow and devouring all who come to try and remove it. The old magath has been luring the humans, those who explore and seek, to it and has been consuming them to bolster its own strength and growth. The Hunters remain unaware of its presence, though even they see the signs, and for all my power, I cannot cast it out. It is greater than I. There is one entity fighting against it however, a small thing of colored patchwork that defends against the old magath's attempts to claim unknowing souls. It fights a lonely war against it, with all the power it has, and no matter how badly the slaves of the Grandmother harm it, it always returns. I have sheltered it several times, offered a home, but it always leaves. I regret that I do not know where it is now.~"

"~A broken moon has landed in the city, and it manipulates some of the Hunters into its service, obsessed with itself as it is. I have already seen the moonforms scouring the city for this twisted reflection, who hides behind the fangs of those who are protectors of both worlds. Speak with the packs if you wish to hunt this moon.~"

"~A horrid thing of armor and fire is tearing through Shadow and Flesh. It turns the Hunter packs against one and another, making them doubt and fear and hate with its lies, all to sate a sick desire blossoming inside it. Though I cannot pinpoint where exactly it lay, the cults it makes of noble Hunters are all too obvious, and the trail of rot and flame they leave should mark the trail towards their new master.~"

"~Is there more you wish to know?~"

>''No, that is all thank you''
>handshake
"Blorble-blorb!"

You extend an arm in goodwill to Notes-Of-Hunger, the greater spirit seemingly slightly taken aback at first, before it's mirth returns in force.

"~Hah! Well met, lesser-of-kin!~"

It extends a large pls hand to grasp your own limb, as you give each other a firm handshake.

"~We may discuss more later on, my friend. For now, I must sleep and fully re-integrate my anchor. And I do believe the authorities of the humans will be investigating the situation here for some time.~"

With those words said, you and your compatriots decide to clean up whatever you can from the cafeteria area (which is mostly the bits of stray human guts and bone here and there) before leaving your new friend to its sleep.

>Friend gained! Notes-Of-Hunger: A powerful hunger spirit you strayed upon who holds dominion over a hotel in the local city. Your first meeting involved it being in a highly unstable state, but with its anchor returned, its full range of personality and mental faculties have similarly asserted themselves. Still kinda creepy to look at, though.

"~Be well, lesser-of-kin. And be cautious and clever. This city is full of strange and old things, many of them terrible. I will always leave my doors open for you if you are in need of shelter from the storm.~"

With that said, Notes curls up on itself, and seemingly drifts into dormancy.

>heal knocked out humans?
You, Red and Purple decide to dedicate the time to healing the knocked out humans presently in the lobby, which doesn't really take much time between the three of you.

Some of them come back to wakefulness soon after you pour your magic into them, rejuvenating their systems. Others take longer, your magic having to counteract whatever remnants of raw hunger still infuse them. And others don't wake up at all, seemingly knocked into a kind of 'magic-induced food coma', as Purple puts it.

There's not much you can do for those, beyond separating them from the rest a little bit, and leaving them be. Their families and the authorities will be on by to pick them up, with any luck.

>head back into our room for now
And with your work done, you decide die to head back up the stairs to your rooms on the other floor.

Blackwood bids you rest soon after you get upstairs, before moving off to his room. You know he likely isn't going to go to sleep immediately though, likely already having decided on writing up all the things you heard and learnt today.

Spanko is the next to retire, making a loud cack before proclaiming "Twenty-seven doorpoles in jelly-dip on the coffeepool! Little riddle nappytime for mesqueeze!", before speeding to what you think is the general direction of where he rooms.

Blue and Red talk animatedly for a while in the hall, going over all the "cool stuff" they can do with their new tools, before finally bidding you and Purple a good night, before going to their room.

>Proposal: Convert human cult/corrupted hunter cells to our side?

>So anyway how are you feeling, Purple? Usually it's us three who get in trouble while you always manage to slip away
"Blorble? Blorble-blorb?"

Purple looks away a bit at your questioning, scuffing about the ground.

"[I didn't quite expect it to have been that bad. And I didn't want anyone else getting hurt because of me.]" he seems almost ashamed of himself. "[Maybe if I was a little more careful, we could've avoided the worst of it.]"

He sighs and slumps a bit, his mood positively dour. Maybe you should say something?

Once he's done doing that, he decides to pull out the chair at the desk, take a spare blanket and pillow from...somewhere, and just fall asleep right there. Falling unconscious on that chair near immediately.

Meanwhile, you climb up onto the bed, and start pulling the covers over you. Once adequately cozy you shuffle under them a bit and lay your head to rest. And almost as soon as your head hits the pillow, you're out like a light. And you start to dream in that blackness once more.

>The Last Of The Seven
Around you, existence asserts itself, a void of black space and twinkling stars flickering into being, burning with their ethereal lights. Looking below you, you see the world, the Earth itself drifting through the void, along its moon.

You almost feel the Moon *shift* in response to your presence, as if assessing your existence, before the feeling leaves and you feel that attention shift elsewhere.

Looking around, you see the other worlds of the system, floating amidst the void. And you can similarly feel that same awareness from them, except it's not directed at you at all. But instead at something behind you.

Turning around, you decide to stare at whatever they have directed their focus towards. And that's when you see it.

Twin suns whirl around each other, their presences vast and all-encompassing in their radiance. Their light flares against each other, grasping and shifting and deciding. Waves of energy ripple out, sending stellar debris scattering and rings of stellar flame screaming into the void.

One of the suns radiates a feeling of a form of absolute stoicism, an overwhelming coldness and distance that is unmatched. Around it, rings upon rings upon rings of strange celestial entities lay, dancing around their Lord or otherwise standing resolute at his side.

But the stoicism feels forced in this moment, as though it's almost falsified. There is a confusion there, an anguished curiosity regarding the interloper.

The other sun, moves slower and flares lower. There is a sign of tiredness to it, of age that goes beyond mere words to describe. It has no court that dances and moves about it, but you feel something from it, like a scent or a taste. Thick and coppery. Like blood.

A single entity lay next to that vast old sun, and not for long, given that it turns to you and floats over, patterns along its body lighting up as it approaches. Long flowing hair falls into the depths of the void form atop its head, and its stonelike skin is covered in all manner of strange alien symbols.

It drifts over, and something enters your mind then.

'Familiar'

On some level, it recognizes you.

The feminine figure drifts to you, dark stonelike skin pulsating with deep runic power and various sigils. Long flowing hair drifts off into the endless nothingness, being only barely illuminated by the light of the stars and flares from the twin suns behind her.

Looking closely at her form now that she's closer, you see many arms originating from her body. Hundreds, perhaps. Possibly thousands? It's impossible to tell. Just as soon as they originate from her, they fade away or are replaced by many new ones.

She said that you are 'familiar' to her. How?

'Radiant. Like Sauel, like my brother. But different. Drenched in blood much like him, but not by necessity. By birth, maybe?'

She almost seems to shrug a bit, pondering the question. You are not sure how she does it with that many arms.

'Doesn't really matter now. The last of the Seven met his end, but has now been reborn through Sauel. He is now Rakmou-leusan reborn. Now, the weight of that divinity falls upon him. Re-molds him.'

She turns back to that single old star, and makes a sound as she does. It is lost to the cold of space.

'What is done is done. All that remains now is to be his lookout and-?'

She turns back to you, but does not stare at you. Instead, one of her hands juts out and points directly forward into the vast black void, which ripples as something seems to draw near.

From that single point in space, you watch as a number of vast and terrible things drift out of the cold hard dark, their forms utterly *wrong* by any sane standard.

One entity amidst the legion resembles a deep black pyramid, blood-red signs woven into it, and the noise it makes as it drifts through the blackness is the sound of a thousand babies wailing without end. Great trunks dangle below it, thick and leathery and whispering.

Another entity snakes behind it, long serpentine body undulating oddly as it comes, twisting further than the orbit of whole worlds. A great maw snaps open, lined with hundreds of chittering mouthparts that adorn a truly bizarre head. Atop its skull, a crest of broken bodies and skin lifts and waves without any air to carry the movement.

Another is a vast blob of fluid, dark grey and spiking outwards as it approaches the light it so hungers for. And hundreds more, greater and lesser, rise behind them.

And leading that bizarre host of things most malign, a number of things you'd almost mistake for people ride on invisible mounts. Except their frames are too perfect, their smiles too bright. And their eyes glimmer with dying stars.

'Battle begins once more. And I am the lookout.'

She floats away, drifting back to the old sun, 'Sauel' she had called it, which turns towards the approaching hordes alongside the other stoic one and its court.

Then, space erupts.

Space erupts. It erupts into fire and light and madness and shifting colors.

The courts of that great distant sun rush forward, moving to their lord's will, as they clash against the things that should not be.

Beside them, the feminine figure ('I am Sauelsuesor, familiar one') points towards the strange things that move and twist and drag themselves across the black, and in waves of raw thaumaturgic fire, the quiet, old sun wipes them away, scattering their essence into naught but motes of flickering stardust. The scent of blood grows thicker around you.

Some of the fell things drift away from the host, falling at you and past you. You move to reach for your sword when something with too many joints and screaming faces falls in your direction, but are stopped cold as a lance of cold hard light tears through it and splits it almost in half.

Looking below you, you watch as a great barrier army floats, white and cold like the Moon, who now shifts itself in rapt attention at the ongoing battle. Together, their power burns away at all the terrible entities trying to fall towards the planet.

But even with their defense, you still see some things fall to the surface of the world, drifting downwards towards their target. From the great defense, some of the stellar spirits fly away, chasing after the dark things.

Turning your attention back to the greater battle, you watch as the furious Lord of the solar courts burns brightly, new suns shimmering into existence before him before speeding out into the clustered hordes of nightmares. In but an instant, you witness, a great number of that nameless legion of darkness be reduced to flaming oblivion.

The strange not-people who have stars falling in their eyes weave around the onslaught, their perfect bodies moving along the attacks layed against them in mind-distorting manners, their forms twisting and warping around the attacks, or jsut outright 'glitching' past them. In their hands are swords and spears and bows. Except not. The spaces where you mistake weapons to be simply don't exist. Theres nothing there save a bleak expanse of pure nothingness.

And with every strike, with every cut and slash, that nothingness swallows up whole armies. Making them never have been. Or in some cases, the not-people merely raise a bloody hand, and those same armies are completely unwoven from all being, that nothingness washing over and engulfing them.

But slowly but surely, the twin suns push them back, their light flaring against the darkness and telling it to disperse, or be burnt away. And slowly but surely, the darkness is forced to listen. The hordes fleeing and the dark starry-eyed figures leading them falling back to the void beyond.

'They will be back.'

Sauelsuesor is now beside you, looking into the blackness that the enemy fell back to.

'Those Riders and the monsters they lead. They always return. We can only force them back for a time.'

She turns to you.

'You must return.'

"Blorble?" you question. It's the first time your actual voice has returned ever since you ended up here.

'You must return, for dark things are coming, and I cannot watch for them all. You must take up the flame and oppose them. That is our duty.'

She reaches out with a hand, and taps her fingers against your body. Light leaks from her fingertips into your form, infusing you with that power, before the glow fades. Yet even so, something feels...different now.

>Mark of Rakmou-leusan (C) gained! The gaze and light of the last of the Koru-teusa, the Holy Seven, has been emblazoned upon the sea of power that constitutes you. You bear His mark, and those who know what it look for will find it. Still, the scent of blood is more than a bit nauseating if you focus on it too much.

Sauelsuesor floats backward, her act finished.

'It is done. You now hold His mark. In time, perhaps, it will be of greater benefit. But for now-'

She reaches out with two free arms, and pushes you down. Your body starts to drift downwards, back to the planet below. You struggle against it a bit, but eventually come to realize that nothing you do matters against the force acting upon you, almost like gravity.

The glowing body of Sauelsuesor grows more and more distant as you fall, getting further and further away as she merely hovers motionless amidst the stars and the twin suns. But one word enters your mind, before you fall too far to even properly see her anymore.

'Protect.'

The whisper enters your mind, and your awareness starts to slip into a deep silence. Slumber and quiet blackness claim you as you drift off.

You can only hope you can live up to whatever expectations she has for you.

That's all anyone can really do against the darkness. Hope.

Right for almost all of them barring the Laborers. That would've been the Factory.

Pretty cool. I see Helios and 1548 are getting along well
>>
>>3900504
Well, less "getting along well", and more they're stuck with each other now and can't do much about that. Helios really distrusts 1548 and would much prefer to kik it out of his domain as the reigning star of the system. And Sauel is way too tired for his shit, and only tolerates it because 179 is there, and because the various void spirits trying to eat them.

Luna flat out doesn't give two shits.

Are there physically 2 suns or is this a spiritual thing?
>>
>>3900658
Anyone in Flesh still sees a single sun (though those who have vague connections to spiritual stuff feel really woozy if they focus on it for too long). In Spirit, there are literally two suns just hanging about. Most supernaturals have no idea what to make of this, and several Archmasters are in a panic.

Werewolves in particular are stuck dealing with all the headaches this causes.

Anomalous item construction falls under this, yeah?
I would like to make something awesome like green lantern power ring equivalent but powered by light, happiness and magic though that is way too complex for 999 right now
>>
>>3901166
You could definitely do that if you ranked up both that and Construction high enough. It will take a while though.

Aaaaaand, we're archived.

Making protective sigils and enchantments sounds like a good idea to me
>>
>>3905720
It probably is. Especially with all the things (both detailed and not) lurking in the city.
>>
Ideas
>capture an evil spirit for study
>capture native evil supernatural for study
>check out Vuindred's spellbook
>practice thaumaturgy AKA magitek and sigils
Did Purple have extra information implanted in his brain at the moment of his creation or was he just more specialized in magic?

>Did Purple have extra information implanted in his brain at the moment of his creation or was he just more specialized in magic?
The latter mostly. Technically speaking, Orange already HAS a lot of the information that Purple runs with. It just wasn't available to him because his original mental state didn't really require it at all. Though, Purple does indeed have his own bonuses when it comes to figuring out mystic stuff and utilizing said info.
