Upon taking that last blaster bolt, you’ve decided that you don’t feel like being shot anymore! Instead, you decide to return a few shots by firing off the hair on your arms like razor sharp quills. Specifically, you aim for those far in the back, and the ones that had taken up vantage points. You have no idea if there are any snipers in their ranks, but you don’t want to take any chances.

As the hairs erupt from your skin, the follicles beneath your flesh rapidly regenerate in order to provide more ammunition, as well as keeping your coat all nice and shiny. Once you’re satisfied with the results of your retaliation, you toss the meat-shields aside and crouch low to the ground.

And in a single bound, you use your powerful legs to leap high into the air, before crashing back down in the middle of their formation, creating a massive shockwave that sends a good chunk of them flying.

Seeing as how you’re within melee range now, the trolls attempt to overwhelm you with their sheer bulk and numbers. But before they can pounce, you reach out and grab them with your hair tendrils, strum the hairs on your arm, and send a wave of devastating vibrations straight into their bodies. As they go limp, you let them fall to the ground, only for their allies to step over them in order to get to you.

Unfortunately, you happen to be extremely good at multitasking. Without breaking a sweat, you pummel them to a pulp with an assortment of maces, hammers, fists and bladed weapons, all made from your wire-like hair. Every now and again, you create a shield to block a few stray shots. But most of the time, they’re having trouble getting past your impenetrable wall of constructs. And before you know it, you’re already fighting all of them simultaneously.

Your ability to sense the tiniest vibrations in the air through your hair is a useful tool. Especially when you need to react to a developing situation on the fly.

Suddenly, you begin to notice the number of active combatants disappearing around you, without you having to attack them. Looking back, you see Red and Charmy jumping into the fray and fighting alongside you. Red’s using the rock alien that he used when you first met him, and Charmy seems to be fighting with what you can only describe as an “Albino” Wildmutt.

Eventually, you knock out the last of them with a punch to his short, little piggy nose.

“So, what do you call that one?” Red asks in a tough, gravely voice.

Remembering that you can’t speak properly in this form, you time out in a flash of golden light and take a moment to get resituated. “Dunno. I think I’ll call him ‘Ripcord’!” you exclaim.

“Man, that’s awesome!” Red shouts, only to be shushed by Charmy. Once she and Red time out, the three of you get a moment to examine the underground city that’s before you.

(Cont.)

The houses and huts appear to be crudely made, almost as if the people that constructed them were in a hurry. The walls are jagged, and slightly misshapen due to their lack of care, but you can tell that they’re sturdy nonetheless. But despite the crude craftsmanship, you can see the groundwork for an advanced electric lighting system being laid down, as well as the means for harvesting fresh water and mining for minerals. With a little work, they could really become self sufficient down here.

“Let’s get moving.” Charmy orders. You and Red follow her without a word of protest.

--------------

As you get deeper into the underground settlement, you come across some villagers that recognize Charmy. They cower and flee upon spotting her, somehow believing that she’s descended upon them in order to deliver some grand punishment. But there is no anger in her eyes. Only disappointment.

“Halt!” shouts a familiar voice. And before you realize it, you’re being surrounded by a group of Forever Knights. And the leader appears to be none other than Leander himself. “Turn back, now.” he demands.

“What the hell, Leander! What is all this?!” she questions.

“This, my dear, is progress.” he proclaims, while gesturing to the entirety of the village. “No longer will we cower in the dark like rats. If we do not continue to advance our own research, then we stand no chance of defeating Malgax!” he exclaims. The people surrounding him seem to be in resounding agreement.

What do you say?

>”You know, he kinda has a point. Maybe we shouldn’t be trying to stop these guys.”
>”We get how you feel, but the way you’re going about it is incredibly risky! Let’s just calm down and talk this through.”
>”You guys won’t have a future if you end up bringing Malgax right to you!”
>”There’s no way we win this war by splitting off into factions. We need everybody’s combined strength in order to stand a chance against Malgax.”
>”If you’re gonna do this, then you should do it right. No rushing and cutting corners. I want you to be 100% sure that Malgax won’t be able to find you, or we’re shutting all this down.”

Without a hint of fear in your eyes, you step forward, the tip of his blade practically pressed against your chest. “If you’re gonna do this, then you should do it right. No rushing or cutting corners.” you declare, pointing towards the hastily constructed huts. “I want you to be 100% sure that Malgax won’t be able to find you, or we’re shutting all of this down.” you proclaim, with Charmy crossing her arms and glaring at Leander.

"That’s right! We’re gonna-” Charmy says, before you place your hand in front of her.

“I’m not done yet.” you firmly state. “There’s no way we win this war by splitting off into factions. We need everyone’s combined strength in order to stand a chance against Malgax. There shouldn’t be any infighting or petty arguments between us.” you say, while scanning the room to examine everyone’s expressions. Seems like they’re taking your words to heart. Time to bring it on home.

Now facing Leander, you address him directly. “And when you’re done, you’d better be ready for Malgax to show up anyway. Even if you’re completely sure that he won’t be able to find you, I’d suggest that you make preparations anyway.” you suggest. The Forever Knights and the surrounding citizens appear to be deep in thought as they mull over the argument you gave.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” she asks you with a worried look in her eye.

“We can do this, Charmy. Whatever comes our way, we’ll help you deal with it.” you say encouragingly.

“Even if that thing is a giant tech-squid alien.” Red adds.

For a moment, Charmy looks down and crosses her arms. After taking a deep breath, she looks at you and Red and nods her head. “Alright, let’s do this. I’m tired of running too.” she says proudly. The Forever Knights and subterranean citizens then begin to cheer for her, approving of their leader’s decision to stand by them.

“Let’s get cooking. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.” you declare.

-----------

Over the next few hours, you, Charmy and Red utilize your transformations in order to bolster the settlement’s defenses. But more than anything, you need to start thinking of a strategy against Malgax if he arrives.

What do you plan to do?

>Evacuate topside and rig the original settlement to blow.
>Use the mineral supply to create an army of golems.
>Put together some underground traps with XLR8.
>Force Tayvor to help you build some practical defenses like ballistas and catapults.
>Practice with your sword. You might be able to learn a powerful new sword stance.
>Have the Forever Knights create armor for the Shiisa. He can be your noble steed.

During the construction, everyone pulled out all of the stops. Gwen was in charge of creating golems from the expansive mineral supply, while Red was in charge of keeping Tayvor in line. For some reason, the big lug seemed to be afraid of the kid after the beating he took. You didn’t much like Tayvor, but his practical knowledge of crafting would be invaluable in the construction effort. Especially if you wanted some low-tech defenses like ballistas and catapults.

And while they were busy taking care of those, you and Charmy had your hands full with setting traps for Malgax if he actually showed up. You were mainly in charge of setting underground traps if they’d ever gotten past your front-line. This included pitfalls, boulder traps, lava cauldrons and carefully placed explosives. But the most time-consuming job would be handled by Charmy. She took the majority of the explosives and strategically placed them around Koromir based on her expansive knowledge of its structural support. Once you were done with your task, you ran on over to give her a hand. And since you were keeping it strictly low-tech, bundles of dynamite were used in place of more advanced explosives.

-------------

The construction lasted several days, despite you finishing your tasks much earlier than anticipated. Admittedly, you could have stopped earlier, but it would seem that your speech inspired the townspeople enough to work overtime. Those shoddy huts had been reconstructed into proper homes by you and Red. Through the use of Gravelanche and Shakedown, reshaping the earth used in their construction was no trouble at all. With Eruptile, you created a lava moat in order to bolster their defenses. You just hoped that no one would fall in by accident.

You and Charmy were even able to train some of the villagers in the use of martial weapons. Hopefully it won’t come down to that, but you can never be too sure.

Once the preparations were finalized, all that was left was for you to turn the lights on. In your hands, you held two fusion coupling cables. By linking them together, this entire underground settlement would light up like a Christmas tree.

“What are you waiting for, bug boy? Don’t leave us in suspense.” Charmy says while slapping you on the back.

“I think you should do the honors. This is your rodeo, after all.” you propose, handing her the cables. She gingerly cradles them for a moment, feeling the full weight of her people’s future being placed in the palm of her hands. Looking around, she can see the approving glances being given to her by the Forever Knights and her beloved people. Finally, she grips the cables tightly and takes a deep breath.

(Cont.)
>>
“Ah, what the hell.” she says dryly, before linking the cables together with an audible click. And just like that, the entire subterranean town lights up. From the town square, to the masterfully crafted water fountain that you added in for extra style points. The joy that Charmy’s people express from seeing the lights in their homes come on for the first time is absolutely priceless. This is the return to an era that they were denied by Malgax’s arrival.

“It’s beautiful…” Red states with an enamored look in his eye.

“This definitely isn’t Koromir anymore…” Charmy says with a similar expression.

“You should name it. Got any ideas?” Red inquires.

“I’ve got one.” you speak up. “How about…’Undertown’.” you propose.

“Undertown, huh? I like it!” Charmy says with a snap of her fingers.

You think these guys are gonna love it here.

--------------

Wanting to appreciate the fruits of your labors, the four of you decided to go for a walk around town. After a while, Gwen and Red split off to check out Merry Go Round that was built at the last minute. When did they even have time to build that?

“Red was right on the money. It really is beautiful.” Charmy says while taking a seat at the edge of the fountain. She pats the empty spot next to her, inviting you to sit down as well.

“Yeah, it sure is.” you say, taking her up on her offer. There’s a pleasant silence between the two of you. It lingers in the air like a gentle breeze, softening with each passing second due to the sound of splashing water droplets coming from the fountain. “At least you can rest easy-” you begin to say, before you feel a soft hand gently caressing your face. A chill runs down your spine, and you begin to panic. But before you get a chance to turn towards Charmy and finish your sentence, her lips are already locked with yours.

Your body freezes up, muscles tensed, brain shutting down. You’re currently unable to process what’s going on, or what you did to invite such behavior. Your mind races a mile a minute, back and forth, but you can’t will yourself to pull away immediately. Time begins to slow down, and you find yourself trapped within a moment.

Suddenly, some sense returns to you, and you muster up the conviction to pull her away. And that’s when the look on her face hits you like a brick. She looks...disappointed, but fearful. A barrage of questions begin flooding into your head.

Was this in the heat of the moment, or was it premeditated? Wasn’t she a dude before?! Why now? Which way does she swing? Has she always felt this way? What are you supposed to say now? What are you gonna tell K8-E?! Does this count as cheating?! And is it wrong that you kinda liked it?!!

“Um, I’m sorry…” Charmy finally speaks up, looking embarrassed. “That was way too...sudden and spontaneous.”

What do you say? Just say SOMETHING!

“No, well...you see, I...um…” you mutter uncontrollably. THOSE AREN’T WORDS, WADE! “Yeah...it was.” you manage to squeeze out, while rubbing the back of your neck. Ah, no wait. That didn’t come out right. One more try. “No. I mean, it was sudden, but you shouldn’t feel bad. I didn’t even know you felt that way.” you add.

“Yeah, me neither. I guess I just kinda...went for it?” she says, feeling equally as confused as you are.

“Look Charmy, I like you as a friend. I’m sorry if I lead you on somehow, but I’ve got a girlfriend back home that I love very much.” you explain. Charmy’s face begins to droop even further.

“Oh...well, yeah that makes sense. Of course a cool guy like you would have a girlfriend.” Charmy says with a forced smile and a dry laugh. “Oh God, I feel like such a doofus.” she says, clutching her head in guilt.

“I’m sorry you had to find out in this specific context, but you shouldn’t sell yourself short. You’re a catch!” you exclaim.

Charmy turns to you with the corners of her lips curled up into a small grin. “Oh you’re just saying that.” she says with tears welling up in her eyes.

“No, I’m serious! You’re an amazing and beautiful person, and I’m sure that there’s someone special out there just waiting for you.” you say encouragingly.

“Yeah. And I guess my options just doubled.” she says with a chuckle. “Oh, and sorry about the waterworks. Girls are so emotional!” she mumbles while wiping her face with her long sleeve.

“No problem. And if you ever want to talk, I’m here for you.” you say, hesitantly placing a hand on her shoulder. Should you be mindful of how much physical contact you have with other women from now on?

“Thanks, Wade. You’re a really good guy.” she says with slightly puffy eyes.

“Hey, what are friends for?” you say in the most genuine tone you can muster. By now, you’re getting a ton of weird stares from the people around you, and you’re pretty sure those non-discrete murmurs and whispers are about you too. “But I should...go see what’s keeping Red and Gwen. I’ll be right back.” you say, while getting up and slowly distancing yourself from her.

“Oh...sure. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.” she agrees while waving awkwardly. With a smile, you turn around and head further into the town. You’re sure that Charmy’s gonna beat herself over this for a little while, but you aren’t sure how you should face or address her from now on. Cutting off contact sounds rude and unnecessary. It’s not like she reached into your pants or anything like that.

(Cont.)
>>
“Wade?” Trixy interrupts.

“Yeah, Trixy?” you respond.

“Do you wish to make Charmy your partner as well? Would that not require you to part ways with K8-E?” Trixy innocently inquires.

“No, Trixy. I’m not replacing K8-E with anybody. Me and Charmy are just friends. She just got a little excited and confused.” you explain in a slightly agitated tone. You hope Trixy doesn’t pick up on it.

“That would be preferable. I’ve come to like your current partner a great deal.” Trixy says with a sigh of relief.

“Yeah...me too.” you sigh, while kicking a pebble in your path. You’ve got a lot of thinking to do.

---------------

After wandering around town for a bit, you completely forget about your goal of reuniting with Red and Gwen. Instead, you seem to have come across them by accident. As they spot you amidst the crowd, Red runs up to you carrying a handful of cotton candy.

“Hey Wade, this place is so cool!” he shouts at an unreasonable volume. You and Gwen can’t help but smile at his child-like excitement.

“Where’s Ben?” Gwen asks, her eyes scanning the area.

“He uh...had to use the bathroom. He should be back soon.” you explain with a flimsy excuse. Gwen appears to be skeptical, but before she can say anything else, a fierce tremor shakes the entirety of Undertown.

“What was that?!” Red asks while shielding his head from rubble and debris.

“I don’t know. Let me check.” Gwen states as she closes her eyes. A few seconds later, she reopens them with a look of horror on her face. “It’s Malgax! He found us!” she screams. And due to her unchecked outburst, the people around you fly into a panic. “Oops…” she mumbles regretfully.

“What does it look like out there?” you ask.

“His troops just made landfall, but his Ripper scouts should be here any minute. Any aerial bombardments should be blocked by the barrier that me and Ben erected.” she reveals, after closing her eyes to check once more.

You’ve got some practical defenses above-ground and underground, as well as a buttload of explosives and a sizable army of golems. Beside you are Red, Charmy, Gwen, Leander, Tayvor and the townsfolk of Undertown. What’s your strategy?
>>
>Take Red and Charmy to the front lines to intercept the scouts and Malgax’s troops. Your heavy hitters should be more than enough for them.
>Let Gwen and the Forever Knights deal with the scouts while you and the others flank Malgax’s troops.
>Make a mad dash for Malgax’s ship. If you cut the head off of the snake, the rest might follow.
>Let them flood into the town, lead them on a wild goose chase, and blow the explosives when everyone’s clear.
>Command the golems to meet Malgax’s troops head on.
>Tell Leander to man the siege weaponry and whittle down Malgax’s troops from a range.
>Send someone to deal with the starfighters and bombers. That barrier won't hold up forever. (Gwen,Charmy, Red)

“Gwen, take some knights with you to deal with the scouts. Take as many as you need, and make sure to arm them with some blasters.” you command.

“On it.” she nods firmly, before signaling the knights to follow her.

“Not you Leander.” you say, preventing the young Knight Captain from following Gwen. “I need you and your men to man the siege weapons. The golems will be leading the frontal assault, while you whittle down Malgax’s troops with ranged attacks. If everything goes well, we shouldn’t lose anyone.” you declare.

“Let us pray that you are right.” Leander responds with a grim expression. “Forever Knights, to me! We shall make this a night to remember!” he shouts, followed by a loud rallying cry from his men.

“Is it Malgax?! Where’s Gwen?” screams a familiar feminine voice from behind. You turn to see a panicked Charmy struggling to get a grasp on the situation.

“Yeah, it’s Malgax. Gwen’s gonna intercept the scouts, while Leander bombards them with ranged attacks.” you explain.

“And the golems?” Charmy inquires.

“I think we should send them to the front lines.” you propose.

“No objections there.” Charmy retorts. Just then, a booming explosion rocks Undertown, jostling the entire settlement all at once.

“What do we do about the bombers?” Red asks.

“Not sure what to do about them. Haven’t figured it out yet.” you shamefully admit.

“We’ll play it by ear. For now, help me move these golems.” Charmy demands. You nod in agreement and race towards the dormant army of golems that you helped them to construct. They only need a bit of mana to activate, so it shouldn’t be terribly difficult.

---------------

After activating the golems, you order them to march towards the outskirts of Koromir in an attempt to intercept Malgax’s troops. And since you, Charmy and Red don’t have anything to do at the moment, you decide to head topside in order to get a better look at things.

Upon arriving, you notice that the starfighters and bombers swarming above the city have been completely shut out by Charmy’s barrier. You aren’t sure how long it’ll hold up, but you’re confident that it’ll do its job for the time being.

In the distance, you see Gwen and the knights battling with the Ripper Scouts. Now that they’re actually able to use guns, they shouldn’t have too much trouble. The spunky magician’s arcane bolts seem to rip through their hull like tin foil, while the plasma weapons that the knights dug up are proving to be equally as effective against the mechanical monsters.

(Cont.)
>>
You notice Charmy’s worried expression as she gazes off into the distance. Looming over the horizon, peeking over this planet’s dark hills, you spot an army of Chimera Sui Generis marching towards Koromir, stomping out any sign of life that they come across. All of which have been genetically modified in some way, creating variants of Vilgax’s species. This is most likely due to Malware’s influence.

“Aw, man. This is really gonna suck.” Charmy sighs, placing her hands on her hips.

“Let’s just wait and watch for now. We’ll jump in when we have to.” you declare, while crossing your arms.

As soon as they’re within range, you give the signal to Leander, ordering him and his men to open fire. In an instant, they let loose a volley of flaming projectiles, boulders and javelins. All of which seem to be very effective against staggering Malgax’s troops. Some are incapacitated, but the beefier ones in the front are not deterred in their goal of smashing Koromir to pieces. If only they knew what you had prepared for them.

You wait about eight minutes for them to get closer, while Red keeps a close eye on Gwen’s team. They don’t appear to be struggling, but Gwen seems to be pulling back and flying towards you for some reason.

“I don’t see any more scouts. I told my knights to sweep the town just in case, but for now I think I’m gonna go help Leander.” Gwen reports.

“Give ‘em hell, cousin.” Charmy says with a cheeky grin. Gwen quickly salutes her and flies off towards Leander’s vantage point. By now, the golems have managed to reach Malgax’s army. The clash is brutal, and you can barely see a thing through all the dirt and dust that they’ve kicked up. Only the sound of shattering rock and thundering blows reach your ears. This is a battle of hulking titans.

Luckily, their initial clash was so intense that it distracted them long enough for your second team to slip through.

Beneath the earth, an unsettling rumbling sound can be heard. But before the Chimera have a chance to react, the ground below their feet caves in, followed by a second army of golems erupting out of the tunnels that you’d dug beforehand. The attack is so sudden and unexpected that Malgax’s frontline collapses out of shock. Their army is being thrown into chaos.

“Looks like the tunnel system is working as planned.” Red says with a smile.

“Yeah. I’m glad to see that it was worth all of that effort.” you reply, while flexing your stiff arm and shoulder. It took the combined effort of Snapdragon, Gravelanche, Eruptile and Shakedown, but you had just enough time to dig a series of tunnels leading out of Koromir. You’ve never transformed so many times in one day before.

Now, you just need to wait for the golems to serve their purpose. Once they’re all smashed, you’ll probably be forced to fall back on that last plan you had. But for the time being, you’ll let Gwen and Leander proceed with their bombardment.

-------------

As soon as the final golem falls, you notice that you little pets managed to take out a large chunk of Malgax’s army. Gwen and Leander’s bombardment devastated their backline as well. Any kind of raged or support units that they might have had were probably taken out sometime during that intense exchange. There aren’t many of them left now. You’re honestly surprised that Malgax didn’t come at you with a larger army. Maybe he underestimated you?

“Looks like we’re falling back!” Charmy announces. She gives the signal to Leander and Gwen, who race to link up with her. “I’ll see you in Undertown.” she says, before breaking off into a full sprint.

“You ready for this?” Red asks, while removing his primitive armor and replacing it with his high tech battle suit.

“It’s Showtime, partner.” you respond, while tearing off your leather armor and activating the Techadon cube. The shifting nanotech shifts and molds over your body, embracing you like a welcome friend. Feels good to be back in black.

-------------------

The Chimera cause a great commotion as they break through Koromir’s front gates. Charmy made sure that they’d spot her as she was rounding a corner. Three were a few close calls during their chase, but Charmy, Gwen and Leander managed to narrowly avoid being pummeled by Malgax’s enhanced troops.

Eventually, they reach a dead end, where they find themselves surrounded by the hulking alien beasts. At first, Charmy’s expression is fearful, but it quickly changes to one of amusement when Gwen snaps her finger. And in a flash of golden light, the three of them disappear from the Chimera’s sight. Bewildered by this occurrence, the squid aliens fail to notice the dynamite rigs being set off.

Only moments later, a series of powerful explosions erupt one after another, destroying the town and its structural integrity altogether. A storm of fire, rubble and shrapnel engulf the sky, consuming every living thing within Koromir in a glorious blaze and a deafening roar. If that didn’t take them out, then you don’t know what will.

“Did we get them?!” Charmy whispers in a hushed tone. You nearly jump out of shock since she just blinked into existence, but you manage to maintain your cool since no one can see your face right now.

“I think so…” you say, sounding slightly unsure. Just then, an additional explosion follows soon after the last one, but you’re absolutely certain that it wasn’t one of yours.

“The barrier. It’s weakening…” Gwen hisses, while she winces in pain. “It won’t be able to hold out much longer.”

You rack your brains, struggling to find a solution for the aerial units, but you just can’t think of an effective way to deal with them that doesn’t leave Undertown vulnerable.

“Did someone call for help?” says a familiar voice over your Omnitrix’s radio. Wait...THAT’S GWEN.

“Is that you, Gwen?!” Charmy shouts. Charmy’s cousin raises an eyebrow to her statement. “Oh no, I meant the young one.” she adds, upon noticing her cousin’s confusion. But this clarification only serves to fan the flames of Gwen’s anger. “I mean...young-er…” Charmy mumbles, while shrinking back slightly.

While they were having this family feud, you notice a pink Pterodactyl-like creature soaring through the skies, taking out starfighters and bombers with plasma bolts and electrified energy whips. That has to be her.

“GWEN’S HERE?!” Red screams in your ear. You push him away for a moment before speaking over the radio.

“Man am I glad to see you.” you sigh.

“WADE!!! I’m so glad to see you too!” she shouts in excitement. You guess she likes you more than you’d originally thought.
“She’s gonna need some backup.” Red interrupts, looking slightly agitated.

“I’m coming too.” Gwen adds. As the older Gwen takes flight, Red transforms into some sort of cybernetic winged creature in a flash of crimson light, before taking off as well.

“Then I guess that takes care of the aerial units. Now we just have to-” she says, before pausing mid-sentence and pointing outside with a terrified expression. Following her gaze, you spot an ominous shape emerging from the smoke and rubble. A red and black giant with features similar to the Chimera Sui Generis, but far more imposing in nature. You have no idea what malgax looks like, but that’s most definitely him.

“It’s time for you to crawl out of your hole, sorcerer. By my hand, your death will be an honorable one.” he growls in a deep, processed voice, while clenching his fist.

“It’s time to finish this…” Charmy whispers, her words dripping with venom.

“Wade, I have unlocked a new alien that might be of use to you.” Trixy announces. While browsing through your new icons, you spot one that looks incredibly similar to D’Traxus!

Ya!, finally

Actually i have an idea. If this will help at the start of the battle.
How about we let Charmy confront Malgax 1st while we flank in the air on our trusty ol hoverboard, so when Charmy attacks, we'll take the distraction and have the suprise on him while we transform im midair right onto him?
Charmy can do the classic, antagonize the enemy before the battle starts.

“Oh hell yeah!” you shout, while selecting the icon and slamming your hand onto the Omnitrix’s core. And in a flash of violet light, your body undergoes a series of drastic changes in an instant.

Your muscles grow exponentially in size and density, while a row of fangs and claws replace your teeth and nails. Several layers of thick, scaly dermal armor spreads over your skin, and a pair of fierce looking horns burst out of your forehead. You’ve become…uh…

“What should I call this guy?” you ponder. “Oh, I know!” you say with a loud, booming voice. “Humungousaur!” you shout, causing your loud voice to echo throughout the tunnels. There’s no doubt that everyone in Undertown and Koromir has heard your voice. But who cares about that! You’ve become Humungousaur!

“Hmm?” mumbles a bewildered Malgax, as he glances over Charmy’s head. Without a hint of subtlety, you burst out of your foxhole just by flexing your muscles. But by doing so, you accidentally spread your massive, wide...wings? D’Traxus had wings? Why the hell didn’t he ever use them.

“Well that’s new.” you say, burping up a few embers from the pit of your belly. This alien’s got a bit of a learning curve, but that’s never stopped you before!

“Curious. I’ve never seen this species before.” Malgax states with a high level of intrigue.

“Good. Then this will be the first AND last time that you’ve seen it.” you say mockingly, as you loudly crack your knuckles. Charmy slowly backs away from her distracted nemesis in an attempt to select an alien while the two of you duke it out. “Let’s dance.” you declare.

What do you do?

As you examine his imposing and hulking frame, a great deal of information begins flooding into your head. For some reason, you have an extensive knowledge of Chimera Sui Generis biology. You forgot that D’Traxus was fairly intelligent. This should prove useful.

For your opening move, you spread your wings wide and use your powerful leg muscles to launch yourself high into the air. After hovering in the air for a bit, you allow your massive body to drop towards Malgax, crashing your fist down upon his head with the force of a meteor!

He attempts to guard against your attack, but he still takes a considerable amount of damage from your herculean strike. The ground below his feet caves in and becomes crushed into a crater, causing Malgax to lose his footing. Not wanting to waste this opportunity, you grab onto one of his arms and apply a portion of your strength to his strained joints. It would take far too long for you to break his bones through normal means, but everything has a weak point. Even biological beings. You hear an audible crack from Malgax elbow, followed by a pained groan from the hulking behemoth.

While his right arm goes limp from the damage that he’s received, Malgax attempts to swipe at you with his left. However, you manage to duck under his obvious attack and deliver a brutal jab to his ribs. That should have broken at least three.

“GRAH! Insolent whelp!” he shouts, while backing away slowly. Suddenly, a pair of sizable plasma cannons pop out of his back, preparing to unleash a hail of blaster bolts in your direction. But before he can do so, a bundle of cloth-like bandages coils around them and forces them to aim away from you. Malgax struggles and flails about as the bandages begin coiling around his arms and legs, and that’s when you notice the head of a Thep Khufan hovering over his shoulder. That must be Charmy.

And seeing as she’s keeping him busy, you take this opportunity to close the distance and deliver a devastating jab to his stomach, sending both him and Charmy flying. She does, however, manage to detach herself from him before he crashes into a pile of rubble.

“Whoa! How about a little warning next time?!” she angrily complains, while pulling her body back together.

“Sorry. I saw a shot and I took it.” you admit with a shrug of your shoulders.

Just then, you notice Malgax shoving a boulder aside and miraculously relocating his broken arm. “You waste your time by struggling. I am now a superior life-form.” he boasts.

“Then why do you suck so bad at fighting?” you retort.

“I think he needs to be taught a lesson in humility. Don’t you?” Charmy asks with narrowed eyes, while slithering towards him. You follow close behind her, crossing considerable distances in a short amount of time with your powerful strides.

Meanwhile, Malgax tries to take you both out with his oversized hand cannon. The beam sweeps the ground in hopes of catching Charmy, but her swift, snake-like movements allows her to slip past it multiple times, before using a thick bundle of bandages to whip him in the face. Malgax recoils in pain, granting you an opening in order to sock him right in the chin. The deformed brute flies backwards, only to be caught by Charmy, who’s stretched her body in order to mimic the shape and function of steel cables. The action causes her a great deal of strain, but she manages to whip Malgax back towards you before the weight of your punch snapped her bandages.

As pigheaded goliath flies towards you, you extend your arm whilst running towards him in order to deliver a superhuman clothesline. Your forearm catches his neck, dropping him flat on his back and knocking the wind out of him. Immediately afterwards, you pile an elbow drop directly onto his stomach for good measure. Soon after you roll out of the way, Charmy jumps high into the air and puts all of her weight into a crushing knee drop.

Without waiting for your partner to roll off of him, you grab hold of Malgax’s ankle and fling his massive body around and over your head. At some point during this, Charmy jumps out of the way, allowing you to toss the hulking brute with all your might, sending him crashing through several buildings and into the ruins of Charmy’s old mansion.

You and Charmy quickly chase after him, following the trail of carnage. You don’t want to give this guy a single inch if you can help it. As soon as you’re within range, Charmy coils her bandages around several of the mansion’s major support beams.

“Give me a hand here!” she demands, while unraveling her body and coiling it around your hands. You notice what she’s going for, and pull with all your might, hoping that you won’t tear her to shreds in the process. After a few seconds, you hear the sound of crumbling rock and creaking wood, followed by the total collapse of Charmy’s manor, with Malgax underneath it all.

The demolition of her old home is strangely satisfying to watch up close, but you can only imagine how it must feel for her to tear it down with her own hands. Or...your own hands.

“Did we get him…?” she questions, while struggling to regain her original shape. Before you get a chance to answer, you notice an ominous red glow amidst the dust and rubble. And in an instant, the ruins of Charmy’s house are blown away, along with you and Charmy, in a massive explosion of crimson energy.

Despite being thrown from your original location, you manage to forcefully stop yourself by digging your hands into the earth and clutching it tightly. Charmy achieves a similar result by spreading her arms and creating two parachutes underneath her arms, like a flying squirrel.

“I’m guessing that’s a no.” you sarcastically state, while taking a fighting pose. When the smoke clears, you see Malgax’s imposing figure slowly approaching you. The red circuit-like patterns on his body begin to pulsate with a powerful energy, and you feel an unusual sense of dread.

“If you will not submit, then you leave me no choice but to eradicate the final embers of your meager civilization.” Malgax taunts, while raising his hands to the air. All of a sudden, the aircraft that your friends had been fighting have now changed direction, and are flying directly towards Malgax!

One by one, each vessel crashes on top of him, only to be absorbed a moment later. With each collision, his body grows larger and larger, until he’s grown past the size of Charmy’s fallen mansion! His head now scrapes the heavens, looming over the ruins of Koromir like a malevolent deity.

“I am your doom!” Malgax shouts, in a loud booming voice.

“Well...at least we got rid of the aircraft.” Charmy quips.

What do you do?

“What do we do now?!” Charmy shouts in a panicked tone. You honestly hadn’t planned for the possibility of a gargantuan Malgax, but you’ve got a few ideas that you can try out here. The most plausible of which involves you trying to find a cluster of nerves sensitive enough for you to successfully pull off the Hephaestan Neuro Grip.

“I’m gonna try something.” you respond, while crouching low to the ground and leaping as high as you can with the use of your powerul leg muscles. As soon as you reach his shin, you spread your wings and flap them vigorously in an attempt to gain speed.

By the time that you’ve made it to his thigh, you can see him raising a massive hand to the air, preparing to swat you with it. But before he can, a barrage of missiles bombards his face, momentarily distracting him from your approach. It would seem that your airborne friends are providing cover for you.

Using this valuable opportunity, you clamber up Malgax's massive body, using your claws to gain traction along the way. Just then, an ominous glow begins emanating from the giant squid’s eyes. Your friends manage to jump out of the way just in time, narrowly avoiding a powerful beam of red energy. For the time being, they appear to be preoccupied with this high stakes game of tag. You just hope that your allies’ aerial maneuvers allow them to stay out of reach long enough for you to reach his neck.

When you’ve reached his chest, you notice that his attention is being drawn back to you. So you make the executive decision to jump for his neck. Even if you don’t make it, your wings should aid in correcting your course.

Your muscles tighten for a moment, and you feel a shudder running up your spine. And as Malgax’s eyes fall upon you, your muscles explode with raw power, launching you towards his neck, faster than he can react. You slip through his tendrils, narrowly avoiding being entangled by them, before digging your claws into the area between his neck and shoulder.

“The nerve cluster should be somewhere around here…” you mumble to yourself. And after seeing the dark shadow above you, growing in size, you’d better find it fast!

Your mind races back and forth, at a mile a minute, as you desperately struggle to remember some quick facts about Chimera Sui Generis biology that you’d just obtained like 4 minutes ago. Finally, you decide to grab hold of a fold of skin and hope for the best.

“Here goes nothing…!” you declare, while squeezing the fold of skin with a fair amount of strength. And right before his hand can crush you, it stops right above your head and hovers there for a while. You feel Malgax’s muscles tighten and seize up all of a sudden, followed by him losing his balance. The next thing you know, Malgax’s gargantuan body goes limp, causing him to fall over, right on top of the ruins of what used to be Koromir.

In a panic, you spread your wings and jump off of Malgax shoulders, watching at a distance as drops to the ground, kicking up a great dust cloud and demolishing a few buildings in the process.

Once the dust settles, Charmy times out in a flash of golden light and runs over to Malgax in order to investigate the situation.

"Did we win?!" you shout from afar.

"It looks like he's paralyzed!" Charmy shouts back. "What'd you do to him?"

You drop back down to the ground, crashing like a meteor as your wings fold into your back. "Hephaestan Neuro Grip. Useful for subduing all manner of prey." you declare.

"Wicked…!" Charmy exclaims, while examining Malgax's paralyzed form in awe. Meanwhile, both Gwens and Red focus on taking out Malgax's mothership. Without his leadership, it's utterly defenseless.

And right before your very eyes, Malgax begins to shrink in size, expelling the aircraft that he'd absorbed earlier in the process. After a while, Vilgax and Malware separate completely! The two of them now lie collapsed on top of each other in a smoldering heap.

What do you say?

“Yeah, I’m thinking we just won.” you say while raising your massive hand and waiting patiently for a high five. That is, until you notice that your high five was a bit too “high”. It’s far beyond Charmy’s reach. Your teammate loudly clears her throat, signaling you to lower it a bit for her sake. And as soon as it’s within an acceptable range, she gives your hand a gentle pat.

“Having a little help isn’t so bad, huh?” you ask in a chastising tone. At this, Charmy crosses her arms and rolls her eyes.

“I guess it wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be.” she admits with a smile. “Still can’t believe we beat Malgax…” she mumbles to herself in disbelief.

“So, where are you planning on keeping these guys?” you inquire, while slapping the Omnitrix symbol on your chest and cancelling your transformation.

Charmy shakes her head from side to side. “No idea. I might have to give 10K a call and ask him about it. I’m sure he’ll be able to figure something out.” she states. After that, the two of you sit in silence for a little while, letting it linger in the air.

“Sooo…” Charmy begins, being the first to break the silence. “Are we, like...cool?” she asks, clearly referencing the awkward moment that the two of you shared earlier.

“Of course. You’re my bro, Charmy.” you claim, while raising a fist to the air. With a bright smile, Charmy gives you a fist bump. Immediately afterwards, Red and both Gwens land behind you, interrupting your moment.

“Everyone okay?” Red asks in his tall, robot form. Before you can answer, the older Gwen’s eyes drift over to the passed out pile of villains, and her lips curl into a smile.

“Looks like it. I guess Ben was right to call you.” Gwen says, with her hands on her hips.

“Yeah, it’s a good thing you guys came when you did. This hindsight beacon is more useful than I thought it’d be.” Charmy admits, glancing down at her Slingshot device.

“I’ll say...” the younger Gwen scoffs.

Besides the Omnitrix, that thing is a technological marvel. It’s saved two of your teammates so far, and it might even be able to save your life someday.

“Uh…” Red begins, while cancelling his transformation. “If everything’s okay here, is it cool if I peel out? I’ve kinda got a few things to take care of.” Red asks bashfully.

“Feel free. If anything else happens, we’ll be sure to call. Won’t we?” she says, glancing in Charmy’s direction.

“Yeah, what she said.” Charmy declares, with her hands shoved into her coat pockets. “We’ll clean up here.”

You nod to her, wave at both Gwen’s and open up a portal of your own, right next to Red’s. “Catch you on the flipside.” you say, before hopping headfirst into the portal and disappearing behind the bluish white veil.

A hop, a jump and a skip later, you’re dropped back into your backyard. At the moment, it’s daytime, but you aren’t sure how much time passed in your dimension. Back in Charmy’s, at least two days had to have passed while you were in Undertown. Hopefully, the city didn’t blow up while you were gone.

As you open the screen door and walk inside, you’re met by an uncanny silence in your house. And why are all the lights off?

“Hello? Anyone home?” you ask no one in particular..

“SURPRISE!” shouts a series of familiar voices, followed by an unnecessary amount of confetti. Once the lights flicker on, you notice that a good chunk of your friends and family had been waiting to ambush you in your own living room. You see K8-E, N8, EN, ML-E, your Mom and Dad, Olivia, Grandpa Phil, Kirby, Hope(Kirby’s wife), Kevin, Wendy, Julie, Carol, Alan and Verdona!

“What’s all this about?” you inquire, while picking pieces of confetti out of your hair.

“It’s your birthday! Duh.” Olivia blatantly responds.

Quickly, you check your phone’s calendar in order to confirm this claim.

Huh...so it is. How’d you lose track of time that easily?

“You guys are the best!” you say, while running to pull your immediate family members into a huge hug. “But how’d you know when I’d be back?” you ask.

Kirby simply shrugs and says “Paradox had a feeling that you’d be back around this time. He’s good with stuff like that.” Must be one of the many benefits of being a time traveler.

“So I take it that nothing crazy happened while I was gone?” you inquire hesitantly.

“Not that I know of.” Grandpa says while scratching his head.

“Even if the whole city was on fire, we wouldn’t miss your Birthday, cuz!” Olivia declares. You do remember when they threw you a party right after an alien invasion, so she’s probably not lying.

Before you get to do anything else, K8-E leads you over to the cake, which appears to be modeled after your Omnitrix with excruciating detail. And lining this cake, are 17 candles that have been lit by Alan’s finger.

“Just to be clear, you guys were joking earlier, right? We don’t have to actually sing him a song, right?” Wendy asks. “I mean, that kinda sounds fucking stupi-”

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!” Olivia begins, causing the others to join in shortly afterwards, much to your sister’s chagrin. Halfway through, your Mother nudges Wendy, prompting her to roll her eyes and join in the festivities along with everyone else. Her heart isn’t in it, and you’re absolutely certain that she’s just lazily clapping and mumbling the words in monotone, but you appreciate it nonetheless.

Once the song is over, they stare on in anticipation, impatiently waiting for you to blow out the candles.

“Make a wish, Wade.” your Mom says in an encouraging tone. You close your eyes and count your blessings in an effort to determine what you should wish for. Out of all the cards that you’ve been dealt during your life. You really lucked out in the family department. The way they raised and supported you, even now, has been something that you’ve never wanted to take for granted. And you can’t forget about the friends that stood by your side, risking life and limb for your sake on countless occasions.

Even if you lose the Omnitrix, your good health, or even your life, you pray that nothing ever happens to these guys. You wish that nothing in this entire multiverse disrupts the life that you’ve built here.

After a brief pause, you blow out the candles in one try, followed by the applause of your loved ones.

“So, what’d you wish for?” Carol asks.

“...It’s a secret.” you say with a warm smile.

You’re not even sure if you’re 17 by biological standards due to your brief period of halted aging, but you don’t want to think about that right now. For now, you’ll just bask in the joy of this moment.

>You’ve become 17(Probably)!

“Happy Birthday, dear!” K8-E says, while giving you a light hug and a kiss on your cheek.

“Thanks K8. I still can’t believe the kids were able to keep a secret for this long.” you state. Glancing across the room, you see your kids being chased around the house by Ship and Slate.

“They can’t. That’s why I only told them after you left.” K8-E admits with a sly grin.

“Smart move.” you reply.

“Hey, Birthday boy!” your Mom interrupts. “Hope I’m not interrupting anything.” she says bashfully, knowing full well that she did.

“Well actually-” you begin.

“I just need to borrow your lady friend for a minute. Girl talk. You know how it is.” she proclaims, while dragging your girlfriend away from you.

“Oh! Excuse me for a moment…” K8-E says apologetically.

Now that you’re alone, what will you do?

You might as well check up on Wendy and Malware. They’re sort of like the outsiders of the group. But...why is your Dad over there?

“How are you guys holding up?” you ask, while approaching them.

“Meh, the party kinda sucks. No offense.” she says with a shrug.

“None taken?” you respond, unsure of how you weren’t supposed to take offense to that.

“It’s just that I’ve been to nightclubs on the Outer Rim. And let me tell you, THOSE guys know how to party!” she exclaims with a dry laugh. “So forgive me if your living room doesn’t measure up to my expectations.”

“You see, this is why I wanted to take Wade to a bowling alley. But, you know your Mother.” your Dad shrugs.

“What the hell is ‘bowling’?” Wendy rudely inquires.

“Hmm…” Malware hums, while inspecting your house.

“Something wrong, big guy?” you Dad asks, while eating a mini-weiner.

“This is my first time being invited to a celebration or festivity. Is this what they are normally like?” Malware questions.

”This is pretty much how humans like to celebrate. It may not seem like much, but-” you explain, before Malware interrupts you.

“No. This is...sufficient.” Malware nods.

“You must not have been invited to many parties, then.” Wendy laughs.

“No, I was not. I was referred to as ‘unclean’ on my planet.” Malware frankly admits.

“Well you smell fine to me, pal. Those Bolvanic Whatever-morphs sure do sound like a bunch of jerks.” your Dad states.

“It’s ‘Galvanic Mechamorph’, Dad.” you say, promptly correcting him.

“I told him that, but he still fucks it up.” Wendy sighs with a roll of her eyes. You can see the corner of her lips curling into a smile, ever so slightly. Looks like these guys are getting along just fine.

After leaving the conversation, you decide to check up on Ollie and Kevin. You haven’t seen those guys in ages!

“Ollie! Kev! How’s it hangin’!” you shout, drawing their attention to you. The two of them appear to have carved themself a little corner in your kitchen.

“Wakeman! Get over here!” Kevin shouts back, while pulling you into a noogie.

“How’ve you been? We haven’t seen you since the whole ‘Tick problem’.” Olivia says, conveniently forgetting the time you ran into her on the street.

>”Been hopping dimensions and taking out big bads one after another. You know, the usual.”
>”Sorry about that. I’ve been trying to improve my PR with Bellwood’s citizens. And it hasn’t been easy.”

“Yeah, thanks for helping me out with that, by the way. And I still owe you guys lunch after I bailed on you last time.” you bashfully admit. “But other than that, I’ve just been hopping dimensions and taking out big bads one after another. You know, the usual.” you shrug.

“Don’t sweat it, Wade. We all know how busy you are.” Olivia says in a reassuring tone.

“Now, hold on.” Kevin interrupts “If the man wants to give us free food, I think it’d be pretty rude to turn him down.” he says with a slimy grin. “Pretty sure it’d just end with him leaving halfway through, anyway.”

“Kevin…!” Olivia nudges him with her elbow.

“What!? It’s the truth. I’ve never seen the guy sit down for more than two minutes. At this rate, he’ll lose all his hair and have a heart attack at the ripe old age of 25.” Kevin jokes.

“I’d like to believe that Iden made me a little healthier than that.” you respond, whole crossing your arms. “I hope…” you add, running a hand through your hair, just to check its volume.

“Being a superhero is busy work. We just need to wait for a relatively quiet day to hang out.” Olivia suggests.

“A quiet day...where no one commits any major crimes in the entire galaxy.” Kevin scoffs. “You’ll be waiting forever, then. This era of peace you guys are fighting for won’t be coming anytime soon. You’re like doctors. Always on call. This is your whole life now.” he says succinctly.

“We have to believe that the state of the galaxy can improve, or else there’s no point.” you state.

“He’s right. A Plumber or a Doctor can’t fix the Universe, but maybe a Hero can.” Olivia proclaims with a glimmer of hope in her voice.

“Yeah, always on call…” Kevin says, while putting his hands in his pockets and leaning against the wall. The conversation continues for a while longer, but you just can’t seem to get Kevin’s words out of your head. Even you know how ridiculous your mission sounds. Not a minute goes by where there isn’t an injustice being committed or a life being stolen. But you don’t think you’d be able to live with yourself if you didn’t try to make a difference. Everyone’s counting on you…

-----------

After you excuse yourself from the conversation, you decide to check up on Julie’s group. You easily spot her, Carol and Alan in the middle of the room, mingling with one another.

“Room for one more?” you ask while approaching the group.

“Anything for the Birthday Boy.” Julie says with a wink.

“Hey Wade, would you mind weighing in on something here?” Alan asks, clearly worried about some issue that they’d been discussing prior to your arrival.

“Yeah, man. Shoot.” you say.

“My professor, Mr. Morningstar, has been acting pretty weird lately. Ever since we found Cree’s body, he’s been cooped up in his office, studying the charms she left behind. I haven’t seen him in almost two weeks now.” Alan confesses.

You’ve never met his professor, but he didn’t sound like a bad guy. Especially after taking Alan in and training him in the use of his powers. It’s like something straight out of a comic book!

“This professor of yours, how well do you know him?” you ask.

“Not much, but everyone else at the institute seems to trust him, so I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt.” Alan states.

“So what’d you want me to weigh in on?” you inquire. Alan goes silent for a moment, mulling over everything that the two girls have told him so far.

“...Carol thinks I should leave the institute. She thinks the whole thing sounds shady.” Alan reveals.

“That’s because it is!” Carol shouts in an outburst. “There’s no way that sane man would train a bunch of kids into mutant soldiers without having some sort of ulterior motive.” she adds.

“The world is a dangerous place, Carol. He’s just teaching them how to defend themselves, while putting out some fires in the process.” Julie says in a skeptical tone. “No offense.” she says to Alan.

“None taken.” he replies, while shaking his head from side to side.

What do you think?

>”I think I should pay a visit to your institute one of these days. Just to check the place out.”
>”What does your Dad think about this?”
>”You do whatever feels right to you, Alan. If you don’t like the way your professor is running his show, then you’re free to leave.”
>”This institute has been good for you, Alan. You’ve got another family now. Could you really leave all that behind?”

“Look, Alan…” you begin, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You should do whatever feels right to you. If you don’t like the way your professor is running his show, then you’re free to leave.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re-” Alan begins, sounding sorely disappointed with your conclusion.

“But if you decide that you want to stay, I wouldn’t be opposed to tagging along when you confront your professor about his weird behavior.” you declare.

“You’d do that?” Alan asks excitedly.

“Of course, man. You’ve always been there when I needed you. It’s only fair that I return the favor.” you say, while wrapping an arm around his shoulder. You’ve still got time before the wedding, and you’re pretty free now that Charmy’s emergency has been resolved. If you were about to go on a trip, now would probably be a decent time for it.

“Ooh! If you guys are going to Cali, I want in!” Carol shouts, jumping up and down excitedly.

“Weren’t you just talking crap about Alan’s professor?” Julie asks.

“My point still stands, but there’s no way I’m turning down a chance to possibly see a movie star.” Carol exclaims.

Over the course of the next few hours, you go around the room, greeting your loved ones and making idle chit chat with them. You honestly wish that a few more of your friends could have made it to your party, but you’re satisfied with today’s outcome.

During dinner, everyone except you, Phil, Verdona, Wendy, K8-E and the kids got a bit squeamish when your Grandpa brought out the main course. It consisted of roasted Piscciss Volann gallbladder and sauteed Florauna pods. Many tears were shed at that dinner table, but you’d like to believe that the experience brought you all closer together.

Little by little, your guests begin to file out of your home. You all express the intent to get together again, but no concrete plans are made, and no date is set. Aside from Alan promising to inform you of when he intends to return to his school.

After most of your friends left, Olivia, Wendy and Kevin stayed to help clean up. To be more specific, Olivia and Kevin played your games, Wendy raided your fridge and K8-E took care of most of the cleaning.

Kirby and Hope had to get back to their plane-hopping vacation, Grandpa had some urgent Plumber business to tend to, and others just returned to their normal, everyday lives.

Well...as normal as they get.

Suddenly, your Omnitrix lights up, and you hear a radio signal being channeled through its speakers.

“Trixy? What’s up?” you ask with a worried expression.

“Pardon my intrusion, Wade, but there have been several police reports accounting multiple cases of theft and aggravated assault. All of which detail an individual fitting your exact description.” she explains. The others immediately stop what they’re doing when they overhear the situation at hand.

“Do you think this could be our guy?” you inquire.

“Some poser is going around committing crimes and stealing my look!” you exclaim.

“So, is stealing your look the real crime here?” Wendy asks sarcastically.

“You know, if you guys are interested, I could use a hand with this one. I’ve heard he’s a slippery one.” you suggest.

“Ah, what the hell…” Kevin says while stretching. “I could use a little exercise.”

“Ooh, we’re doing a team-up! Count me in!” Olivia shouts, while raising her hand. Unconsciously, the three of you turn to Wendy, who’s still undecided on the matter.

She rolls her eyes and finishes off one slice of pizza, before rotating her arm and letting out a yawn. “Alright, fine…” she sighs. “But no rooftops. That shit gets old real quick.” she hisses.

With a mutual nod, you and the others begin to suit up in your own respective corners. And while yours doesn’t take nearly as long as Olivia’s, you use this spare time to contact the Plumbers within your sector.

You order them to create blockades around the area where he was last seen, as well as sending a few patrols out just to keep an eye out. And just in case, you make up a code word so that they’ll know the difference between you and this impostor. That way, they won’t be deceived if this Lenopan gets a hold of your comm frequency.

“Everyone ready?” you ask. Standing before you is Olivia in her classic Lucky Girl costume, Kevin in his casual clothing, and Wendy wearing her new and improved helmet, along with her studded leather jacket. It’s made of a black, reflective material, with a set of LEDs embedded in the center in the shape of a “V”. However, a long, glowing crack has formed in the helmet, making it seem more like a “Y” than a “V”. A fitting companion for the masked vigilante, otherwise known as “X”.

“Let’s ride.” Wendy announces in a deep, processed voice.

--------------

After promising K8-E that you’d be back within the hour, you and Wendy board your respective motorcycles. You weren’t even aware that she’d built one.

Olivia and Kevin, on the other hand, have mounted the back of an enlarged purple cat, otherwise known as Gwen.

Together, the four of you ride into the night, likely gathering the attention of everyone in the neighborhood in the process.

------------

Upon arriving at the scene of the crime, you find the Plumbers patiently awaiting your orders.

“Sir!” says a feminine voice within their ranks. Tracing the voice back to its origin, you see a female Loboan saluting you with her snout held high. She looks fairly young.

“At ease.” you say uncomfortably. Even when she lowers her hand, her motions seem stiff and robotic in nature.

“What’s the situation?” you ask.

“The suspect is hiding somewhere within this shopping district. We’ve done our best to evacuate as many people as we possibly can, but we fear that there are still a few humans hiding in there. We do not have any information regarding a hostage being taken, but you should probably prepare for the worst.” she explains, without taking a single breath in between her words.

“Wow…” Wendy says with an exhausted sigh.

“Uh, good work lieutenant.” you mention. “We’ll take it from here.”

“Very well, sir.” she responds. Her expression barely changes, but her tail is wagging vigorously from side to side.

How do you want to handle this?

This shopping district is kinda huge. Searching it with your team will take too long.

You turn to face the Loboan from earlier, now prepared to start giving orders. “Contact the patrol teams and tell them to comb the shopping district. If they spot the impostor, they’re to flush him out into the open. Do not let them engage him in a prolonged firefight. They’re not equipped to handle an alien this dangerous.” you command. “Me and my team will be tracking him alongside the patrol squads. I need someone to relay information back and forth between their teams and mine. When they spot him, I want to be the first to know.” you add.

“Sir! Yes, Sir!” she shouts with a salute.

“Oh, and one more thing. The alien that I’m about to use can’t speak basic. We should set up some non-verbal signals while I’m here.”

“Man...he’s getting good at this…” Olivia says with a shocked expression.

--------------

Once you’ve settled on a non-verbal signal and confirmed that the patrol squads have moved into the shopping district, you and the rest of your team prepare to do the same.

“Alright. Stay close and stay sharp. If any civilians get in the middle of a firefight, they become our first priority.” Olivia dictates. She knows you better than anyone, so you trust her to make certain calls in your stead.

The other two nod in confirmation, and you carefully select Monitor Lizard’s icon on your holographic user interface. With a firm slap, your body is enveloped in violet light, and you begin to undergo drastic biological changes in an instant.

-----------

“We’ve got something.” reports one of the Plumbers. “UV sensors picked up a trail of sludge leading towards the northeast wing.”

“Roger that. We’ll check it out.” Olivia responds over your Plumber badge’s communicator. From that big goofy grin on her face, you can tell that she’s having fun being a space-cop.

While your cousin relays the information to the team stationed outside the shopping district, you crank your five senses to max output in order to track this slimeball. You honestly hate using this method sometimes. It’s the ultimate form of TMI.

You can smell how long it’s been since your friends have showered, taste what they’ve had for breakfast, see the beads of sweat rolling down your cousin’s body, hear their organs working, and sense their weight just from feeling their footsteps. Ollie and Wendy would kill you if you told them that you were getting all this personal info within seconds of transforming, so you keep it to yourself. For all they know, you’re just really good at tracking the scents of others.

Just then, you get a strong whiff of the Lenopan’s scent. But...something’s wrong. You’re getting several distinct scents. Lenopan DNA is a bit muddled, which makes it difficult to ID them. But their scent shouldn’t change.

(Cont.)
>>
These scents were beginning to overlap, but you were able to pick them apart and individually identify them. With your mental cataloging, you start counting the different scents that you come across.

There aren't just two, or five, or ten. There’s...too many. Far too many for no one to have noticed. Something’s wrong.

And that when you notice it. You stop dead in your tracks, bewildered by where the trail is leading you.

“What’s up? You find something?” Kevin asks, clearly tired of wandering around in this empty shopping district.

The scent trails...they’re swirling around and above you in a circle. It’s almost like an...AMBUSH!

“Heads up!” Wendy shouts, as she tackles Kevin out of the way of a sharp, spear-like projectile. Tracing the projectile back to its origin, you see the impostor posing dramatically on a rooftop. And right next to him is an identical copy. And another one. And another one. They’re everywhere! It’s enough to make your head spin.

“We’re under fire! We need backup!” shouts one of the Plumbers from your badge. You overhear a number of screams on the other end of the line.

“Looks like we’ve all got our hands full.” Olivia sighs. Her eyes light up, and her hands begin to glow bright pink.

What do you do?

>Use your sensory capabilities to provide support and defend your team.
>Camouflage yourself and sneak away from this ambush. You might be able to turn the tables on them.

While you still have the time, you decide to time out early so that you may select another alien. Hopefully, one more suited to combat.

As you hastily swipe through your collection, your finger hovers above the new turtle icon that you noticed before. Trixy did mention that this was a new alien, but you have no idea how useful it would be in this situation.

“Better figure something out fast, bro. These guys are creeping me out.” Wendy warns.

“Here goes nothing…” you mutter, while slamming your hand down onto the Omnitrix’s core. And in a flash of violet light, you undergo a drastic transformation!

Your skeletal system shrinks down considerably, and your spine collapses in order to make room for the thick shell forming over it. Jagged, sharp scales grow over your skin, and your hands and feet morph into four stubby little legs. Last, but not least, a sturdy plate forms on top of your skull, acting as some sort of exo-skeletal helmet.

Once the light fades, your friends gaze upon you with confusion and skepticism.

“What the hell is that?” Wendy snaps.

You honestly don’t know.

“ARE YOU GIVING ME LIP, PRIVATE?!” you shout, with a booming voice that betrays your non-threatening form.

“Uhhhh…” Kevin mumbles.

“OH! MAYBE YOU DIDN’T HEAR ME!” you bark. “I SAID ‘ARE. YOU. GIVING. ME. LIP. PRIVATE?!” you scream at the top of your lungs, stretching your neck towards them further and further with each and every exaggerated word. You literally feel like you can’t speak in a voice that’s quieter than this.

“N-no, sir…!” Olivia responds fearfully, earning her a strange look from Kevin and Wendy.

“Now that’s more like it!” you roar, sounding pleased. Unbeknownst to you, the Lenopans have begun to close in on you, making dramatic poses all the while.

“I can’t believe we get to fight ‘X’!” one of them exclaims.

“I know! This is a dream come true!” remarks another approaching you from behind.

“Come get some!” you shout, while popping a minigun out of the top of your shell. You hadn’t felt it before, but you think that your shell houses a cluster of highly advanced nanomachines. The relationship is almost symbiotic.

As for a name, you think you'll call this guy Shellhead!

As the barrels begin rotating, a barrage of plasma bolts fly from the minigun’s muzzle, penetrating the Lenopans bodies and shredding them to pieces. You rotate the minigun, careful not to hit any of your friends.

While you’re doing that, Olivia is using an ice spell of some sort to subdue a few of the Lenopans that are trying to flank her. But Wendy and Kevin are struggling the most. Your sister is finding it difficult to drain their life-force, as she isn’t entirely certain of how her mana affects their unique biology. And seeing as how Kevin’s more of a bruiser, you don’t see him taking one out anytime soon.

Speaking of having trouble, you notice that these guys are virtually unaffected by your attacks. Anything you do to them just gets healed up almost immediately afterwards.

“Not gonna lie, this is a little underwhelming…” a young-sounding Lenopan sighs.

“I know. Really thought he’d transform into Big Chill or something.” remarks a female Lenopan.

“That honestly would’ve been the better counter-play here.” adds a geeky Lenopan.

“Well this is ‘honestly’ pissing me off!” you retort, while increasing your barrel rotations. It gives them less time to reform, but it won’t work forever.

And that’s when you notice it. One of the civilians that failed to evacuate is trying to sneak away unnoticed. But unbeknownst to him, a cluster of glass shards is about to rain down on him, likely a result of your sustained firepower.

“LOOK OUT!” you scream. The elderly man looks up in horror and covers his eyes as he prepares for the worst.

However, to your surprise(and most likely his), one of the Lenopans morphs his body in the shape of a dome, shielding the innocent man’s body in the process.

“It’s Showtime!” he dramatically shouts.

“Aww, man. They’re stealing your lines, too.” Olivia grimaces.

“Oh, I bet that just burns you up inside huh, Bentley?” Wendy says with a sly grin. You never should have let her play your video games.

“Okay...THAT was awesome!” the female Lenopan roars, losing her composure and her mimicry of your form in her excitement.

“I know, right! I even got to use the line!” the dome-shaped Lenopan exclaims, which seems to frighten the civilian. “Oh, you’re safe now. Go on, skedaddle.” he says, while passively addressing the man. The civilian does exactly as he says and sprints away from the scene with a surprising burst of speed. “Now, where were we?” he innocently asks, while turning to you.

“Wait, why are you fighting me? It sounds to me like you guys are fans.” you inquire. “Now if you guys wanted to spar, you could’ve just said so.” you add.

“Are you kidding? Who wouldn’t want to get their butt kicked by you? It’s an honor.” says one of the more excitable Lenopans.

“Totally. We’re huge fans!” the female Lenopan squeals.

“I still don’t get it. Why would someone travel halfway across the galaxy just to get their ass whooped.” Wendy asks.

“I guess it’s kinda like how random people would challenge Bruce Lee to street fights, just to see how tough he was.” Kevin explains.

“But that doesn’t explain why you guys were hurting random people. If you’re okay with that, then why’d you save that old guy?” you question.

“Oh...right.” mutters one of the Lenopans, with his head held low. “Some of the other guys that came with us got a little rowdy. I’m thinking they’re the ones that your friends are fighting.” he admits.

“Why’d you bring them with you if you don’t like them?” Olivia asks.

Before answering, the remaining Lenopans look to each other nervously. “Well...we were kinda smuggled here. It was the only way to get through customs without being caught by the Plumbers.” one of them explains.

“So...in an effort to avoid the Plumbers, you went and attacked a Plumber patrol? I don’t buy it.” Wendy asks with a skeptical scowl.

“We weren’t expecting to run into them! Honest!” admits the only Lenopan that’s struggling to maintain his disguise.

“We were trying to run, but the other guys wanted to fight back! I think they still have some beef with the Plumbers.” the female Lenopan cries.

“Next time, tell us that before you attack us. I almost got impaled back there.” Kevin complains.

“Yeah...that’s our bad. We always forget how fragile humans are.” says the Lenopan closest to Kevin.

>”Who’d you get to smuggle you to Earth, anyway?”
>”I don’t need you guys causing anymore trouble. Turn yourselves in, and I’ll be sure to get you back to your home planet.”

Seeing as there’s no need to fight right now, you cancel your transformation, returning to your human form in a burst of golden light. “If you really want to help, then I could use a hand dealing with your friends. And if you want, I’ll throw in a few autograph’s. Hell, I’d even be okay with continuing this fight if you want to keep it as a friendly sparring session.” you propose.

“Seriously?! That’d be sweet!” the younger Lenopan exclaims with a big, goofy grin on his face. With each exaggerated movement, a bit of sludge flies off his body and becomes pasted onto any nearby surface within a 5 foot radius.

“Remember, you still have to help me round up the rest of your pals. And if I promise not to cause any trouble, I might be willing to let you stay on Earth as long as you want.” you suggest.

“What?! That means we’d get to see X every day!” the female Lenopan squeals while looking at her friends.

“Well, ‘everyday’ is a bit of a-” you begin to say, before you’re rudely interrupted by the collective chatter of the giddy slush puppies. They’re practically(and literally) oozing and dripping with excitement.

“Hey, nerds!” Wendy shouts. Her sudden change in volume seems to have drawn the attention of the Lenopans. “You can geek out, later. We’ve still got work to do.” she declares, while pointing a thumb in the direction of the Plumber patrol that’s currently under attack.

Without protest, they silently nod towards you and follow close behind as you transform into XLR8 and race through the vacant streets, in hopes of finding your allies before a tragedy befalls them.

In the corner of your eye, you see Kevin, Olivia and Wendy hopping on top of Gwen’s back and riding her into battle. With Gwen’s speed, they shouldn’t be too far behind you.

------------

As soon as you arrive at the scene, you’re greeted by the sight of your fellow law enforcers being overwhelmed and smothered by the aggravated Lenopans. They’re noticeably bigger than the ones you fought, so you probably shouldn’t take them lightly.

They haven’t noticed you yet, but your friends will need a minute to catch up and join the fight. In the meantime, maybe you could do something to turn this situation around. And to your surprise, you manage to spot a bag full of cryo grenades spilled out onto the ground. They should prove to be effective against the slush puppies' unique biology, but you aren’t sure if the Plumbers that are trapped inside will be safe from its effects.

>102!

While they’re distracted with the Plumber patrol, you decide to swap to a more appropriate alien form. Fourcast should do the trick!

You close your eyes and take a deep breath, struggling to recall the feeling of transforming into a Theolodite. And in an instant, your legs merge together, your arms become elongated, and your torso grows in order to accommodate Fourcast’s bulky containment suit. The process gets easier and easier with each repeated use. You should be used to it in no time.

Before they get a chance to spot you, you send your weather drones towards the Lenopans, whilst conducting precise calculations in your head. Gotta try to avoid hurting their hostages.

The first Lenopan attempts to swat at your drones, only to be frozen mid-swing by a series of well placed cryo beams. You’re careful to only freeze the areas surrounding the Plumber that’s trapped within the viscous mud trap, allowing him to break free on his own.

Next, your drones swap to a neighboring Lenopan and bombard him with concentrated beams of heated plasma, causing his semi-solid form to harden and grow brittle. He struggles to break free, but does so with the threat of destroying his own body with the slightest sudden movement.

Another Lenopan attempts to charge towards you while you’re preoccupied with his friends. Seems like these guys are seriously underestimating your multitasking skills.

Before he even gets close to you, a vicious whirlwind rips him away from you, tears his sloshing body to pieces, and sends him flying off in the opposite direction. Commanding your drones to replicate the ideal weather conditions for a miniature tornado doesn’t take a terrible amount of time or effort on your part.

And as for the last remaining Lenopan, you decide to get a bit creative with the way you deal with him.

By ordering your weather drones to capture the moisture in the air, turn it into water, and condense into a contained space, you manage to trap the slush puppy in a sphere of purified water. However, once you spot the Plumber trapped inside gasping for breath, you realize that you don’t have much time to waste.

With a twirl of your finger and a series of high pitched chirps and beeps, you turn the hovering sphere of water into a brutal whirlpool, capable of tearing the Plumber free and nearly dissolving the alien’s body.

“Alright where’s the...fire…” Olivia says, before petering off into a low mumble. You turn to notice that your friends have arrived, along with the Lenopans that you befriended not too long ago. You’ve got your backup, but you pretty much handled everything by yourself here.

“Hope you don’t mind that I got a head start.” you playfully announce with a wink from your helmet’s holographic display. Your somewhat feminine, echoing voice reverberates throughout your entire suit with each word you utter.

“Traitors…!” shouts the Lenopan that you melted. “Should’ve known that you’d side with the Plumbers. You’re too soft!” he adds, while he struggles to pull himself together.

You narrow your eyes at the subdued slush puppy and hover over to the puddle that he’s collapsed into. “The war is over, and I’m not letting you sacrifice more lives for some petty grudge. If you were smart like they were, you never would’ve ended up like this.” you proclaim, while pointing at the Lenopans that you befriended.

The melting Lenopan growls at you as he struggles to maintain his composure. “If you think that I’m just gonna let some meatbag talk to me like that-!” he roars, only to be cut off by your weather drones freezing him solid. You’ve heard enough.

“Officers, get him out of my sight.” you demand.

“Right away, sir.” says the human officer that you’d just saved from drowning. “You heard the man! Get a move on!” he shouts to his subordinates.

------------

After the rogue Lenopans were captured and contained, you tried your best to convince the other Plumbers of your fans’ innocence. They seemed harmless enough, if not a little misguided.

“So...you want to let them stay here, sir?” asks the Loboan lieutenant. “Are you sure that’s wise?” she hesitantly adds.

“They seem like decent people. And I’m pretty sure they know what would happen if they started misbehaving.” you say, while gesturing towards your belt.

“Does this mean that X is gonna come beat us up if we do bad things!?” exclaims a Lenopan with an excited grin.

“Don’t be stupid. He promised to spar with us later. We don’t need to commit crimes to get his attention.” the female Lenopan sighs.

The Loboan sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose. “If you’re going to stay here, we might as well get you processed. If you come down to the station with us, we can get you sorted out.”

“So you’re not gonna arrest them?” Kevin asks.

“So long as they don’t do anything stupid, I don’t see a reason to boot them off-planet.” she explains. “But you’ll probably want to assume a human form at some point in time.” she says to the Lenopans. “Trust me, it’ll make it much easier for you to live here.”

Seeing that your job here is done, you and your friends prepare to leave. The Plumbers promise to give you the Lenopan’s contact information later so you can meet them for that sparring session.

“Sooooo, mission accomplished?” Olivia asks.

“Looks like it. This was a pretty stupid case. I can’t believe you do this every day for free.” Kevin complains.

“Why’d I even come? I barely got to do anything!” Wendy groans.

“It’s not all bad. We got some fresh air and exercise out of this.” Olivia says with her usual sunny disposition.

“And let’s not forget about those people that we helped.” you add.

(Cont.)
>>
“Putting that aside, I didn’t know that you knew magic!” Olivia says, while circling Wendy. “Where’d you learn it?”

“I, uh...know a guy that knows a guy.” Wendy claims nervously.

“Well that doesn’t sound shady…” Kevin sarcastically states.

“I wonder if that guy knows Kirby.” Olivia ponders, completely missing Kevin’s point.

“I doubt it. I’m a bit of a special case.” Wendy mutters while gazing down at her glowing hand. “OH SHIT!” she suddenly shouts.

“What’s wrong?” you ask.

“I forgot to text your stupid parents. That’s what!” she angrily growls while pulling out her phone and typing furiously. “They’ve got this stupid curfew that I have to follow. If I’m late, then I have to shoot them a text.”

“Aww…” you, Olivia and Kevin say mockingly.

“CAN IT!” she roars.

------------

Soon after the mission was over, you all went your separate ways and returned to your respective homes. Along the way, you receive a text from Alan. It reads: “Me, Julie and Carol are all packed and ready for the trip. We’re leaving tomorrow morning. Let me know if you still want to come with.”

What do you say?

>”Sure. Just give me an address and I’ll be there.”
>”Go on ahead, and I’ll meet you at the institute. I’ve got a few things to take care of first.”

"Sure. Just give me the time and place." you say out loud. And without being asked to, Trixy writes out the text for you and sends it to Alan. By the time you get home, your friends have confirmed that they'll be departing from Julie's house at 9am. You've never been there before, so the address is much appreciated.

------

As soon as you walk through the front door, you find K8-E in the living room, cleaning up after the kids. Seems like she's just put them to sleep. "Oh! That was quick." she states. "Welcome back. How was your mission?"

"Not too bad, actually. I'm feeling pretty good about the outcome." you report.

"That's good. I feel anxious when you're forced to pummel criminals every day. It makes it seem like this war of yours will never end." she laments. However, she quickly recovers in an attempt to lighten the mood once more. In a flash, she grabs whatever is left from your birthday cake and sets it down on the dining room table. "I'm sorry, would you like some cake?" she asks with a gentle smile.

You shrug and sit down on the opposite end of the table, accepting one of the last two slices of your cake, while she takes the other. The sweet taste of your chocolate ice cream cake fills your mouth, as the granulate and smooth textures blend together with a moist crunch.”So I’m guessing that emergency you had to deal with has been resolved?" she inquires. "Peacefully, I'm sure." she suggests with a mocking tone. Right then, a pang of regret and guilt strikes at you. With the whole thing that happened with Charmy, it feels weird to chat casually with K8-E like this.

But for the sake of not making things awkward, you push these feelings down and swallow them for now. "You know me, I'd never hurt a fly." you respond with a chuckle.

“Your life has become so extravagant. What’s it like to travel to an alternate dimension?” she inquires with great anticipation.

“Surprisingly, it’s not too different from what I do already. It’s almost like traveling to another planet.” you admit. “I haven’t really gotten a chance to delve into their alternate history, but I might be interested in visiting them when things calm down a little over there.” you explain.

“That’s certainly a unique way of seeing things.” she laughs. “Still, I’d love to be able to do what you do. Skipping from dimension to dimension, traveling the galaxy, discovering new and exciting things...there’s a certain romance to it.” she sighs, while leaning her cheek against one of her hands. There’s a sense of longing that’s expressed in her starry eyed gaze.

“Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for romance on the galactic road trip next year.” you state with a wink.

“With so many of your friends going on the trip, are you sure you can find time for us to be alone?” she asks with a sly grin, while waving her fork at you.

“We’ll get a big ship.” you say, while rubbing your leg against hers under the table. “And a soundproof room while we’re at it.”

“Now that’s something to look forward to…” she coos, giving you a dreamy look as the two of you play footsies.

Soon afterwards, you clean the table, turn off the lights and retire to your bedroom, where the two of you cuddle and marathon a few episodes of some drama that K8-E was interested in watching. Once the clock strikes midnight, both you and K8-E are fast asleep.

--------------

As the sun rises, you open your eyes to witness the miraculous event of K8-E sleeping in for once. Checking your alarm clock, you notice that you’ve woken up two hours before the time you were supposed to meet up with Alan. Not to mention the fact you somehow woke up before K8 and the kids. While you’re up, you decide to begin your morning ritual by setting your clothes aside and hopping in the shower. Once you’re done freshening up, you begin preparing breakfast for your family.

Since you’ve got the ingredients for it, you settle on cooking scrambled Rwaddi eggs and fried Accipitridian breast. A bit fancy, but not too difficult.

“Something smells good!” ML-E exclaims, being the first to run out of her room. The other two boys follow close behind her, as if in a conga line.

“Sit tight. It’ll be done in a few minutes. Watch some cartoons in the meantime.” you suggest, while seasoning the meat.

The kids moan and groan, but they end up taking your advice since they don’t have a choice in the matter. A few minutes later, their show goes on commercial, and their patience begins to wear thin. Luckily, you just finished preparing the dish.

“Food’s ready! Come and get it.” you announce. And not a moment later, they rush into the kitchen, grab their plates and run back to the living room. “Try not to make a mess.” you call out.

“We won’t!” they respond simultaneously. Just then, you notice K8-E walking into the living room, wearing her dark purple nightgown.

“What’s all this?” she asks with a giggle.

“Breakfast. Thought I’d surprise you. Good morning, by the way.” you say.

“Well, consider me surprised.” K8-E remarks, while gliding along the floorboards and sitting down in front of you. You slide her plate closer, and pour a drink for her, which seems to impress your lady. “My my, what a gentleman! What’s the occasion?” she asks while taking a bite of her food.

“No occasion. I just wanted to do something for you guys before I had to leave.” you reveal.

“Where are you going?” she inquires with a concerned expression.

“California. I won’t be gone long. Alan needed help with something, so I wanted to lend a hand.” say, summarizing the gist of your day trip.

“Well, whatever happens, just be careful.” she warns.

“Oh, you know me. I’m always careful.” you respond with a lighthearted chuckle. K8-E frowns in silence and raises an eyebrow as she takes a long sip of her drink. That skeptical glare sends a shiver down your spine for a second. “...I’ll be careful, dear.” you promise.

In an instant, her cold frown turns into a bright and cheerful grin. The rate at which she switches between them is uncanny. “Now that’s what I like to hear.” she says, practically beaming.

Once everyone’s finished eating, you help them clean up and say your goodbyes before departing from your home.

------------

Soon after you arrive at Julie’s place, you see the three of them patiently waiting with their luggage. You understand Alan packing his bags, but are Julie and Carol planning on staying longer?

“Hey Wade. You ready to roll?” Alan asks. You notice him looking around for your luggage.

“Don’t worry, I’m traveling light.” you say. Just then, you notice Julie’s Dad glaring at you from the window. Does Mr. Yamamoto still not like you?

“Oh, don’t worry about him.” Julie reassures you, noticing her creepy Dad from afar. “He always gets this way when I hang out with boys. He gives Alan the same look.” Julie says while rolling her eyes.

“I think it’s sweet. My parents aren’t around much, so me and Mal pretty much get to do whatever we want.” Carol states. There’s a hint of sorrow in her statement, but she shakes it off fairly quickly and begins messing with Malware.

After a bit of idle chatter, the three of you board Ship and take off towards the skies. The travel distance should be considerably shortened by his sub-light engines.

----------------

About an hour later, you see Alan’s institute coming into view. More than anything, it reminds you of a refurbished Old English castle. The campus grounds are well kept, as displayed by the hedge art and the admirably mowed front lawn. Along the way, you see a blue blur running around the building, followed by a male Tetramand leaping after it. The Tetramand makes great strides in its leaps, but it never gets close enough to close the gap. Meanwhile, Julie and Carol are ooing and aweing at Alan’s institute.

“Oh man, they’re at it again…” Alan groans.

“Friends of yours?” you ask, to which Alan nods shamefully. “How many students and staff members are attending this institute?” you inquire.

“Not a whole lot. We’re still struggling with the recruitment drive.” Alan admits. “The Tetramand down there is Manny, and the one he’s chasing after is Helen, a Kineceleran. They came here with their brother Pierce. Manny can be a little hot-headed and Pierce broods a lot, but they’re good people. So long as Helen’s there to reel them in, that is.” he says with a smirk.

Out of the corner of your eye, you spot a sickly man with green skin playing with bugs in the courtyard. His jacket and t-shirt is riddled with holes, and his hair is scraggly and unkept. He looks more like a homeless person than a student.

A few yards away, you also spot a young alien girl with smooth white skin and a slender build. She wears casual clothes befitting a teenage girl, and her hair is tied into a long ponytail.

“What about them?” you ask.

“The green guy is Clancy. He doesn’t really do or say much. Most of the guys find him creepy because of the whole thing with him talking to bugs, but he’s mostly harmless.” he explains. “And the alien girl over there is Tiffany. She and Clancy don’t really go on missions or attend classes, but Professor Morningstar lets them stay here anyway.” he concludes.

“Hey, isn’t that the circus freak you fought a while back?” Julie questions, while pointing out the window. You squint your eyes and follow her finger, only to be taken aback by the sight of Frightwig casually walking around on campus!

“Frightwig attends this school?!” you shout. “When did this happen?”

“A few months back. She’s actually one of our instructors.” Alan reveals.

“What does she teach, Circus Arts?” Carol snickers.

“Martial arts, actually. And she’s really good at it too!” Alan exclaims. “I’m still trying to reach Tiffany’s level, though.”

“You’re getting beaten up by a walking ice-cream cone? You do know that you’re made of fire, right?” Julie giggles.

“Don’t let her looks fool you. She’s dangerous, Jules!” Alan shouts.

Wait, did he just call her “Jules”?

Just then, Ship makes a hasty landing in the middle of the courtyard, nearly causing you and the others to stumble and fall over. As soon as the loading dock lowers onto the ground, Manny and Helen run over to greet you.

“Hey Alan, who’re your friends?” asks the Kineceleran.

“This is Julie, Carol and Wade.” Alan describes while pointing to you and your friends one-by-one. “They already know about you because we were making fun of you before we landed.” he says with a chuckle.

“Keep talking, Albrite. I’m still gonna smoke you in the Danger Room, tomorrow.” Manny taunts, while pointing at him with all four index fingers.

“Never happened, and never will. You’re going down, Armstrong.” Alan responds with a cocky grin.

“At least we’ll have a few more girls around here. The sheer amount of testosterone in this place is overwhelming.” Helen groans with a roll of her eyes. She then grabs Julie and Carol, before dragging them off somewhere. “Come on, I’ll show you around!” she proclaims. And before they have a chance to respond, your friends have been whisked away.

While your friends mingle with one another, you decide to go and chat up your old pal Frightwig. You haven’t seen her since you busted Zombozo and Hex way back when. You wonder what could have caused her to change her ways.

Going off of where you spotted her before you landed, you manage to track down the psycho circus girl on the left side of the courtyard. Currently, she has her back turned to you, humming while she uses her hair to trim the hedges. Looks like she was the one responsible for the hedge art you saw from above.

Before you get a chance to speak, she turns to you with a wary expression. But as soon as she spots the Omnitrix symbol on your belt, she practically jumps out of her skin. Seems like she remembers you too.

“No no, it’s okay. I’m not here to fight.” you plead. She seems to lower her guard a bit after you’ve said that. “I’m just paying Alan’s school a visit. He wanted me to help him talk to his professor, Mr. Morningstar.” you add. Her expression softens at the mention of Alan and Professor Morningstar.

For a while, there’s a heavy silence between the two of you, but you aren’t exactly sure of what you should say in order to get through her barrier.

“...So?” she asks with her arms crossed.

“‘So’ what?” you repeat with a confused expression.

“...What did you want?” she inquires, while placing the tips of her dreads inside of the rubber orbs latched onto a belt that hangs around her waist.

Hmm, that’s a good question. What DID you want?

“I like what you’ve done with the place. These hedges are beautiful.” you remark, while running a finger through the finely trimmed hedges.

“Thanks. I take pride in it…” she mutters while twirling a finger through one of her wriggling hair tendrils. Your compliment seems to have slightly chipped away at her icy disposition.

“I haven’t seen you in ages. How’d you end up here of all places?” you inquire. Frightwig sighs deeply and looks off to the side before answering.

“Ever since the boss’s circus got shut down, me and the boys didn’t have anywhere else to go. We took to the streets and tried to strike out on our own. As it turns out, living freely as a freak ain’t all it’s cracked up to be when you don’t have a tarp over your head.” she explains with a sorrowful look in her eye. “We were mocked, hunted down like animals and hated by just about everyone. And things only got worse after those giant frogs started shooting up the place.” she grimaces. Frightwig must be talking about the Incursean invasion.

“After that, me and the boys kinda just decided to go our separate ways. We stood out more when we were together, and nothing good comes from standing out. Haven’t seen them since.” she shrugs. “Eventually, Professor Morningstar picked me up off of the streets when I tried to mug him. He offered me food, shelter, fresh clothes. Everything a girl could want.” Frightwig reminisces, looking starry-eyed for a moment.

“How are you liking it here? Alan tells me that you’re a really good teacher.” you reveal. Her eyes seem to light up at the mention of Alan’s name.

“Alan’s a good kid. He’s gonna be someone important one day. I can feel it.” she says, while clenching her fist. “And I love it here. It feels like I’ve finally found my place in this wretched world. Everything I do here is voluntary. I do it because I owe Michael a great debt.” she proudly states with an air of loyalty. And did she just call Professor Morningstar “Michael”?

“Well, I’m glad that you aren’t using your powers to hurt innocent people anymore. You’ve really come a long way.” you admit with a warm smile.

“Yeah, now I hurt kids instead. Not sure if that’s a step up or not.” she says with a smirk. At least she’s comfortable enough to joke with you.

----------

After some casual conversation, you say your goodbyes to Frightwig and wish her the best of luck before departing to find Alan again. It doesn’t take long, since all you had to do was follow the trail of carnage from Alan and Manny’s sparring session. From the looks of it, Alan won by a landslide, but you don’t care too much about the results of their petty squabbles.

Since Julie and Carol aren’t back from their tour, you and Alan decide to go confront Mr. Morningstar yourselves.

As you casually stroll through the mansion’s interior, you can’t help but let your eyes wander about the estate. Everything from the floorboards to the marble columns and fine oak furniture is polished with excruciating attention to detail. Your sensors are barely picking up a speck of dust in here. Not even on the chandelier! It’s actually a little impressive.

Along the way, you and Alan run into a large, humanoid mutant gator, wearing only a tank top and jeans. You hear a deep growl welling up within his throat as you walk by.

“‘Sup, Gatorboy.” Alan casually greets him. The one known as “Gatorboy” only gives an acknowledging nod in response. Seems like your friend has adapted pretty well to his new environment.

----------

Finally, you reach what appears to be Prof. Morningstar’s office. As you went deeper, the interior design began to change drastically. Fancy electric chandeliers were replaced by candlelight, and the transition between the finely polished wooden floorboards and cold cobblestone was extremely noticeable. It almost looks like some sort of medieval dungeon!

Alan’s firm knock on his professor’s door quickly disrupts your train of thought. “Mr. Morningstar? Me and my friend would like to talk to you.” he pleads. However, there is no response. After several repeated attempts, the result never changes. You even consider busting the door down.

“Maybe we should come back later.” Alan proposes. But suddenly, a pale hand emerges from the darkness and grabs your friend’s shoulder. Alan freaks out and screams, while conjuring a fireball so that he may defend himself. But as soon as he brings the flickering flame forward, the tension leaves his shoulders and he breathes a sigh of relief. “Professor?!” Alan exclaims.

The man that stands before you doesn’t appear to be much older than you or Alan. His swept back, short blonde hair and clean shaven face gives him a gentlemanly aura. But his light blue eyes and dark, well-groomed eyebrows manage to compliment the ensemble, crafting a devilishly handsome visage, all wrapped up in one pretty boy package.

“Mr. Albrite. To what do I owe the honor of this unexpected visit?” he asks with a soft and gentle voice.

>”My buddy here was worried about you. All of your students are, actually.”
>”Why have you been cooped up in your room for the last few weeks?”
>”You’re much younger than I expected. I honestly thought you’d be old, bald and in a wheelchair.”
>”What’s with the overly gothic interior decoration? It’s a bit jarring.”

“My buddy here was worried about you. All of your students are, actually.” you interrupt. Morningstar gives you a queer look, before regaining his composure and turning to face Alan again.

"Ah, yes. I suppose I have been rather…indisposed lately." Morningstar remarks while brushing a lock of disheveled hair away from his face. "Forgive me. I must have lost track of time." he laughs.

"Well, we're just glad that you're okay." Alan sighs.

"Actually…" you interrupt once more. "I've got a few questions for you, prof."

"And you are…?" Michael asks with a clueless expression. Are there really people out there that don't know about you? Not to sound conceited or anything, but you're kinda been all over the news lately!

"Oh, right! Sorry about that." Alan says apologetically. "This is X. He's a good friend of mine, and he wanted to come here and meet you in person."

"Of course! The infamous vigilante from Belltree. How could I forget?" Michael exclaims with a snap of his fingers.

"It's 'Bellwood', actually." you retort.

"Hmm? Isn't that what I said?" Morningstar asks in a seemingly smug tone. For now, your I decide to let it roll off your back. You've got bigger concerns here.

"Now that we're all familiar with one another, there's a few things I wanna know." you begin. "I hear that you've been studying charms, prof. Perhaps I can help?" you inquire. Your question appears to invoke a rather curious reaction from Morningstar. He looks taken aback, almost like you caught him off guard. He then shoots a stern glare in Alan's direction.

"What? We found a headless lady lying in our backyard! How am I not supposed to tell people about it!?" Alan exclaims with a shrug.

Alan spilled the beans about finding Cree's corpse soon after it happened. But according to his story, no one knows who killed her.

Michael clears his throat and gently yanks at the collar of his turtleneck before continuing. "It seems you're well informed. Yes, I've been studying the charms that she'd left behind. I find the runesmithing behind their creation to be most fascinating." he rambles. "I would appreciate your cooperation." he says, while extending a hand.

"I'll help, so long as you tell me how you came across Cree's body and why you're studying those charms." you demand.

"Come on, man. You don't need to grill the professor like that." Alan complains. However, Michael raises a hand in protest to his young protege's defense.

"Now, now, Mr Albrite. It's quite alright. Your friend has a good point here. You all deserve to know what I've been up to these past few days." he admits with a warm smile. "Come inside my office, and I'll explain everything."

That being said, you and Alan take him up on his offer out of sheer curiosity. If Cree's really dead, then you should be the one to confirm it. That, and you aren't sure if you look the idea of this guy hording powerful ancient magic relics.

Upon entering Morningstar's office, you're met by the sight of ritualistic and bizarre ornaments strung about. There isn't an inch of the room that isn't covered by a magic rune, grimoire, fetish or some other odd trinket that you can't write identify. This seems to go far beyond being a magic enthusiast. This is bordering on obsession!

"My apologies. It has been quite some time since I've gotten the chance to clean up. If only I knew I was going to be having company." he jokes half-heartedly.

"Yeah, no kidding…" Alan mumbles as he wipes off a thick layer of dirt and dust with his finger. As Morningstar walks past his cluttered desk, he places his hand on a wall, causing a glowing rune to appear, before opening a secret passageway.

"It'll just be a little further." he reassures you, before entering the passageway and descending down a stone stairway. You and Alan follow close behind him in a seemingly endless spiral staircase, while Alan lights up your pathway so none of you trip. After about a minute, you make it to the bottom, without a word exchanged between any of you. This is getting a bit bizarre.

"Right this way." he says, gesturing towards a spacious room illuminated by emerald torchlight. You notice that the professor has set up a separate workstation for each charm. One for the Charm of Telekinesis and one for the Charm of Electrokinesis. But you aren't sure what the third workstation is for. There isn't much evidence that alludes to the true nature of its study. And all the way in the back of the room, you see Cree's body floating a vat of pale blue liquid.

"What the hell!?" Alan exclaims.

"A few months ago, when we found her, this woman has been decapitated by a single blow from a bladed weapon and left to die in our backyard. The autopsy showed that she showed little to no resistance, and was most likely kneeling before the one that murdered her. Or perhaps she was made to kneel…" Michael mutters to himself.

For some reason or another, the professor sewed her head back on and went through painstaking work in order to rejuvenate her decomposing body. But one thing's for sure, this isn't the Crew that you encountered in Undertown last year. This one appears to be noticeably older, which causes a rather disturbing thought to pop into your head.

"Why would you keep her down here!" Alan shouts.

(Cont.)
>>
"Her armor and biology are simply fascinating. I was unable to peel her out of the suit, but the charms came loose easily enough." Michael explains, without realizing how strange all of this must sound. "I hope to find out what sort of spell binds her to the suit, and how the charms interact with the enchantment." he says, now looking to you. "And what's more, I find the flow of Mana around her body is most peculiar. It's almost as if...she didn't belong here." Morningstar states with an inquisitive glimmer in his eye.

Just then, a piercing alarm sounds throughout the room, traveling up through the staircase and echoing through the mansion.

"What's going on?" you ask.

"Sounds like trouble." Alan responds with a troubled grimace.

"We'll have to continue this conversation another time, then. Meet up with the others and I shall join you shortly." Morningstar declares.

You both nod to him and race upstairs in an effort to intercept whatever this threat may be.

-------

After a few minutes, you and Alan arrive outside, only to be met by the sight of numerous man-sized winged creatures landing on the school's front lawn. You recognize one of them as "The Emperor", a member of the Birds of Paradise and one of their most powerful allies. His ability to produce and manipulate ice is nothing short of impressive, but his penguin motif is a little lame. And that black and white unitard isn't doing him any favors either...

"What are you clowns doing here?" Manny aggressively asks.

"Step aside, freak. We're only here to settle a score." orders the bird themed vigilante in front. His outfit is much more practical, and themed towards the "tacticool" military approach. A quick visual scan(with Trixy's help) reveals his identity as "Thunderbird". Apparently he's been helping out the US Army on top secret missions as of late.

"What'd you say to me!?" Manny roars. He nearly lunges at the rude bird-man before Helen stops him dead in his tracks.

"Cool it, Manny. It's not anything that we haven't heard already." she says.

"What's going on here?" Alan interrupts.

"Don't play dumb, kid. We know that you're working with the Kingfisher. Now hand over our friend, or this might just have to get ugly." Thunderbird growls, while hovering his hand over the sidearm strapped to his thigh. All of a sudden, everyone's taking defensive stances and preparing for the worst.

"Now let's calm down and not do anything stupid." you propose. "You guys are with the Birds, right?" you ask Thunderbird.

"And who the hell are you?" he responds, taking his hand away from his sidearm. This middle aged man isn't much taller than you, but in terms of muscle mass, you don't even come close. His bulging biceps peek out of his tactical gear and padded clothing, and you see a glimpse of his rugged features through the bird shaped helmet that he wears on his head.

"I'm X from Bellwood. But more importantly, I'm friends with a few of your group's members." you announce.

"Oh yeah...I think I remember The Cowl and Birdie talking about you." the Emperor mentions.

"That may be, but it doesn't change the fact that someone here is working for the Kingfisher. Mother Duck tipped us off to your little plan, and she's never wrong." he growls, while poking a finger into your armored chest.

"Who's this Kingfisher guy? I've never heard of him." you state. For a moment, the Birds give each other silent glances and nods before Thunderbird decides to continue speaking.

"The Kingfisher is something of an insurgent. He used to be like us. Hell...he used to be one of us." Thunderbird sighs.

"KF responded to the call just like we did. We migrated to the nest, and pledged to protect humanity." explains a punk British girl with a colorful, bright-red Mohawk.

The Cowl explained a bit of this to you a while back. A few years back, these guys felt compelled to travel to a specific location and dress up as birds. No one knows why or how they knew to do this, but they felt as if they were meant to do so. Almost instinctively, they formed the largest group of Superheroes on the planet, The Birds of Paradise!

"He was one of our founding members, along with Challenger and Peregrine, but his view of humankind quickly became warped. He began to see our people as some sort of endangered species. A new breed of human." Thunderbird states. "So instead of protecting mankind, he decided to take the fight to them. He thinks that we should be the ones to rule over them."

So Kingfisher is kinda like their Magneto. You just hope he isn't equally as dangerous.

"Well this is my first time hearing about him, and I'm guessing it's the same for everyone else here." you confess. "If you let me know who you're looking for, then I'd be glad to help."

"Happy Feet over there tells me that you know The Cowl." Thunderbird says while pointing to The Emperor. “He's the one we're looking for. He went missing a few days back, and we haven't been able to get in contact with him since." Thunderbird claims.

The Cowl went missing!? Why haven't you heard of this? Don't tell me he went on that mission by himself.

But before you can speak, a strangely pleasant jingle echoes throughout the courtyard. You recognize the music to be of the classical genre, but it sounds strangely familiar to a nursery rhyme that you might have heard when you were younger. You can't quite put your finger on it.

While you try to figure out where the music might be coming from, you notice that the Birds are reacting very negatively to it. They clutch their heads in pain and begin to stagger from side to side.

"Uhh, are you guys okay?" Alan asks. But right as he reaches a hand out to help them, Thunderbird quickly brandishes his pistol and points it right at his head.

"WHOA!" Alan shouts.

"More than half these guys are kids. Are you really ready to shoot one of them in cold blood!?" you ask frantically, in an attempt to appeal to their heroic nature.

"Get out of here, kid!" Thunderbird grunts. "I can't hold out much longer…!" he whimpers. It sounds like they're having trouble controlling themselves. Could the music be the cause? If so, then why isn't it affecting you or your friends.

"Alan, look out!" Helen screams. Just then, a series of ice spikes grows under Alan's feet. He just barely manages to dodge them, but it would seem that the rest of the birds are losing control of themselves as well.

Despite your lingering doubts about using magic, you quickly form a large dome over the Birds as they struggle to regain control over themselves.

“What are you doing?” Helen asks.

“I’m trying something out. If I can create a soundproof barrier over them, then I should be able to prevent them from falling prey to the song’s effects.” you explain. “That being said, I need your help, Trixy.” you add.

“I am analyzing the song as we speak. Should I find anything unusual, I shall report it to you immediately.” Trixy announces. It’s like she read your mind!

While she does that, you try to focus on crafting this soundproof bubble. It sounds like a simple task, but it actually requires a crazy amount of concentration. By layering the barrier with several more on top of it, and replicating the shape and form of acoustic studio foam, you manage to shut out the majority of the sound that’s coming through the barrier. However, you come across several complications along the way. You begin to worry about air circulation, which adds another layer of difficulty, as you would have to create vents throughout each layer of the barrier, while filtering out the sound in the innermost barrier.

But before you can properly think of a way to accomplish this, something shatters your barrier from the inside! The vigilantes have gone on a full on rampage due to the effects of the song, and you’re pretty sure that your soundproofed barriers lost a good chunk of durability due to your tampering. You could probably do with a refresher course in your mana usage.

“Looks like we’ve got a fight on our hands!” Manny shouts as he raises all four of his fists.

“Not if I can help it.” you declare, while opening up your belt’s faceplate and selecting Thriller Whale’s icon from your Top 10. You then slam your hand onto the Omnitrix’s core, causing a burst of violet light to envelop your body in the process.

In an instant, your limbs shrink, your hands turn into rubbery fins and your cranium expands rapidly. You’ve become Thriller Whale!

As soon as your transformation finishes, pierces through your final barrier with the bladed tips of his mechanical wings. What do you do?

“Trixy, I require assistance. I need to counter the song’s effects.” you demand.

“I will assist you to the best of my ability.” Trixy responds.

“I apologize, but I must lay you to rest. Please, do not resist.” you say to the vigilantes. And right before they can reach you, they’re stopped dead in their tracks by a hypnotic melody projected from your sonar. With Trixy’s guidance and your analytical prowess, that brief moment of hesitation is all it takes for you to turn the tables.

For the most part, your lullaby succeeds in subduing the hostile vigilantes. However, there are a few of them who are proving to be resistant to its effects. Among them are Thunderbird, Mockingbird and that punk girl with the mohawk. They’ve got some serious mental resilience.

“They’re not going down.” Manny states.

“Let’s put them to sleep then.” Helen proposes, while extending a bo-staff.

“I need to find the source of the music. Do you think you guys can keep them busy?”

“Go do your thing. We got this.” Alan reassures you. You nod to him and race back to the mansion in order to begin your search.

-----------

By sensing the vibrations in the air, you realize that there are multiple points of origin scattered throughout the courtyard. And considering the distance between them, they’re much too far apart for your stubby little legs to waddle towards one by one. A highly concentrated sonic burst should give you a good idea of the layout. So long as you’re careful not to shatter all the windows in the mansion.

You close your eyes and concentrate on taking in any information that the returning vibrations can give you. It’s a bit of a long distance, but if you focus it in a specific direction, you should be able to shed a little light on this situation.

The first object is composed almost entirely of metal, and is long and slender. From what you gather, you believe it to be a speaker attached to a pole of some sort. But you don’t remember seeing anything like that when you landed. Perhaps it was stored underground, only to be brought out for emergencies. And if that’s the case, then this song would have had to be prepared beforehand.

And that’s when you notice the cables being fed underground. You’re honestly surprised that your sonar was able to pick it up. But an even more interesting revelation comes from the fact that the cables are feeding back towards the mansion.

“Hmm…” you muse. Maybe you should look into this.

-------------------

Upon following the trail, you’re led back to Professor Morningstar’s office. Swapping to Zipmunk allowed you track the electrical currents running through the walls and floor, until finally, you find a button beneath his desk that seems to control the devices you saw outside.

Just then, you hear the sound of breaking glass echoing throughout the room, and leading down into Michael’s personal study.

(Cont.)
>>
“Mr. Morningstar…?” you question hesitantly. As you descend the seemingly endless spiral staircase, you notice a trail of pale blue ooze traveling through the creases in the cobblestone and touching the foot of the very last step. And upon examining the state of the room, you notice several things. Michael is nowhere to be found, the charms are missing, and so is Cree’s corpse. In its place, an empty tank lays barren, with a puddle full of shattered glass spreading across the floor.

(To be Continued)
>>
>Elsewhere…

Michael soars past the clouds, leaving a trail of glittering dust in his wake. His skin, now golden and glimmering with the sheen of a finely polished precious gem, shines brilliantly as the sun’s beaming rays reflect off of his face. His aura has a similar color, and is likely responsible for propelling him through the air. His long scarf flutters and flaps wildly in the wind, but the only sound that fills Michael’s ears is that of Cree’s soaking wet cloak. She’d been wearing it ever since Morningstar threw her in that tank, and he hadn’t considered the possibility that he would need to carry her out in his arms like this. He didn’t expect to be in a hurry, but then again, he wasn’t expecting a visit from one of the most well known figures on the planet. But none of that matters now. The only thing that matters is putting distance between him and X. And lucky for him, he sees his destination peeking out of the clouds now.

Without delay, Michael flies directly towards an ancient looking vessel, resembling a pirate ship, but having clear technological advancements made so that it may remain airborne without much difficulty. With it’s Solar Sails and pressurized O2 field, the captain and crew were more than safe in the harshest of environments. But more than that, the sheer size of it is astounding. It nearly rivals the size of his school, and has enough firepower to turn the mansion to rubble several times over. This was the ship of Captain Crowbill, an infamous space-pirate, and a dastardly fiend.

Upon boarding the ship, Michael sets the woman down onto the wooden floorboards, but not before being surrounded by the Captain’s freakishly ferocious crew.

“Well, lookie what we got here, boys.” growls a gruff sounding voice from above. Looking up, Michael sees the shadow of a large, man-shaped bird creature, cocking its head at an awkward angle. He seems to resemble a parrot. “Seems like we got a stowaway.” he says while jumping down onto the deck with an audible thump. This tall, muscular figure towers over Michael, as he pops the cork of a rum bottle with his beak and pours it down his gullet. All the while, his cybernetic red eye rapidly darts around. “And you wanna know what we do to stowaways?” he asks, while flexing his slender, cybernetic talons on both his left hand and his right leg. Whatever he’s alluding to, it seems to excite the rest of his crew.

“I’m here to meet the Kingfisher.” Michael firmly states.

“Well I don’t remember asking for your-” the Captain begins.

“That’s enough, Crowbill.” demands an old man wearing a long, green feathered cape. As he emerges from below the deck, the alien crew begins to tremble in fear. He wears an aviator's cap with goggles pulled over his eyes, baggy linen pants, weathered boots and gloves, and a sharp-looking rapier at his side. His each and every step boasts authority and confidence. Without knowing his name, Michael knew he was in charge.

“Oh I was just havin’ a go at him. You know I’d never harm a pretty little hair on his head.” the Captain mocks in his cockney british accent. For a moment, before he passes Michael by, he gently strokes his face with his razor sharp prosthetic claws. A bead of sweat rolls down Michael’s face as he slides the claw away, causing the Captain to laugh to himself. And as he turns around, Michael spots a human infant clinging to his back, giggling and gasping all the while. It’s a bizarre sight, but he decides not to dwell on it for too long.

“Mr. Morningstar, I presume?” the old man inquires, while stroking his long curled beard. “You have the target, but I expected her to be…” he trails off as he glances down at Cree’s corpse.

“Alive?” Crowbill chuckles to himself, while patting the infant on the head.

“Just give me a moment.” Michael requests, before digging a hand into his bag. And from it, he brandishes one of the Charms of Bezel. Namely, the Charm of Resurrection. “Now let's see if this trinket lives up to its name.” he says. He then shoves the charm into an empty slot at the center of Cree’s armor, causing a brilliant glow of golden energy to spread throughout the cracks. Her body begins to colvuse wildly, as if she'd been possessed. But all of a sudden, she raises her chest to the air and lets out a blood curdling shriek as beams of light are emitted from her eyes and mouth. Everyone except the old man shields their eyes from this display. Shortly afterwards, Cree is coughing up pale blue liquid onto the deck and gasping for air.

“Most impressive. You’ve done an excellent job, Mr. Morningstar.” the old man says while grabbing Cree’s face and inspecting her. In response, she slaps his hand away and struggles to stand, but she cannot muster up the strength to do so, and quickly falls back onto the floor with a pained snarl.

The old man extends a hand to Michael, to which the young man firmly grasps. And without Morningstar noticing, a group of shady individuals wearing bird-themed outfits form a circle around them. “Welcome to the Conspiracy of Ravens. I think you’ll fit right in.” the old man grins.
