Darkness...

That's all you've known for so long, all this time floating, trapped, in an endless and dark prison, black being all you could see. A nightmare that seemed infinite.

You don't remember how you got here, you just have no memories at all, all you remember is one thing: your name is Gob.

For all these years you've lost all hope of escaping from this eternal dream, for you it was simply impossible...

Until now.

A bright light makes its way through the space in front of you. Light, something you haven't seen in ages, it looks like a hole, an exit, after all this time, you're finally free.

You move closer to the light, floating through the nothing, and finally you get out. The light is brighter in the other side, and you get blinded for some seconds because your vision is not used to it.

When your sight slightly recovers, you see you're in a small room with brick walls, there's a chalkboard in the wall, a small table with a strange plant to your right, and some kind of shining sphere to your left in the ground, it looks like it's what is producing that light. Then, you notice him, a bearded man with a lab coat in front of you.

"Welcome to earth." You hear him say, that british accent is impossible to miss.

"Where... Where am I?" You ask while looking at your hands, they're completely black, dark as the place you've just exited, like if you were a part of it. You also notice your own british accent, you haven't heard your own voice since you gave up in trying to escape from that place.

"We've been trying to make contact with you for years, Gob, Duke of Darkness." He continues without answering. You notice he's talking in plural, although he's the only one in the room with you, that's weird. Also, Duke of darkness? Is it some kind of joke? Because you don't quite get it.

"Now if you please, can you accompany us?" He asks, pointing to the door behind him

"Yes, I'll go with you" As soon as you said those words, you could clearly see a smile in his face.

"Excellent! now, if you follow me--"

"But first" you interrupt the man's talk. "Who are you? I may have spent milleniums in that darkness, but I think even in this day and age it's polite to introduce yourself, no?"

"Oh, of course, how rude of me, my name is Dr. Grey, I'm part of the group of scientists from the New Light Foundation who brought you here."

"Anyway, we promise all your questions will be answered, but now we need to move, shall we?" he points to the door again, which light turns green and opens by itself, sliding to the left, you've never seen a door do that before.

"Indeed..." you nod, and start walking behind him.

Walking near the door, you can see your name written in the chalkboard, and some mathematical formulas under it.

Stepping outside, you find another door with a red light to your right. Grey walks to the left, into a long corridor, the place is so quiet that you can hear his footsteps echo through the walls, these look like they're built with pure white panels, the floor and the ceiling too, everything is white and clean.

"Here in the New Light Foundation we specialize in strange and paranormal activities, objects and, of course, entities, like you." Grey explains while you follow him. You stay silent to hear him, but you don't really understand why he said 'like you'.

As you two keep walking, you see more doors with red lights, more corridors, and a window, seeing through it you spot more scientists in a room full of blue glass tubes, filled with some kind of liquid, also noticing the door to the left of it has a green light.

"But, as you may imagine, if we reveal the presence of these weird, yet powerful, things in our world, we would cause massive hysteria, chaos, not to mention the wrong people would want them for their wrong intentions, you see? And that's why we stay hidden, in secret locations all around the world. for our safety, and yours." he keeps walking and explaining with a calm voice, stopping at one of the doors as it opens.

"Right here" He says while walking into the room.

Looking inside, you can't see anything, the lights are turned off and it's dark, you can't help but think about all that time you spent trapped in the darkness. he stepped inside but the lights haven't turned on yet, that and the complete silence around makes you feel like something is... off, but you can't exactly tell what.

You arm yourself with courage and step forward, into the dark room. It must be your mind playing tricks on you, or at least you hope so.

Half second after you're inside, the door shuts behind you, and everything around goes completely black once again. Thoughts fill your mind, is this even real? Were you dreaming and just woke up? You can't feel but doubt, mixed with disapointment and fear, your head spinning and your hands on your face.

However, after a minute that felt like hours, you see a flash as the lights turn on. This room doesn't have much neither, just a table, 2 metal chairs and a big mirror on the wall.

"Are you ok?" Dr. Grey asks with an eyebrow up, sitting in the other side of the table, in the far end of the room.

After staying silent for a second, going back to yourself, "Yes... It's nothing" you respond while lowering your hands.

"Good, please take a seat" he invites you, leaning forward and placing his elbows on the table.

While you're heading to the table, you feel how the room temperature is colder than before. You're taking the remaining seat when Grey takes something out of his pockets, a small notebook and a pen, and starts writing something on it.

"I'll explain the process, we want to know some details about you, so we'll ask you some questions, all you have to do is answer them, simple, right?" he looks at you.

You nod, but thinking about it, you probably haven't got a lot of answers considering your memory situation.

"Alright, let's start then, who are you?" You are somewhat confused with that question, didn't he called you by your name before?

> Just say your name. "I'm Gob"

> Use the title he used. "I'm Gob, Duke of Darkness"

You answer all of the scientist questions.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Gob, Duke of Darkness" You don't reallly know why he called you like that, but it sounds good, and powerful, like you're someone important. Grey stays silent, writes in the notebook, and keeps asking.

"Where do you come from?"

"A place with nothing but darkness" It's the first thing to come to your mind, it's something hard to forget, being one of your only clear memories.

"Hm..." You hear Grey, not looking up and still taking notes.

"What are you?"

"A... Man? Apparently a duke of darkness?" you don't know what exactly that question means, that was the best you could think.

"Huh, That's quite... interesting" you see him raise an eyebrow once again, but that doesn't stop his questions.

"Do you particularly enjoy hurting other forms of life?"

"Excuse me? What do you mean?" you answer his question with another question, you just don't understand.

"What? I mean exactly that, do you like killing humans?" he asks once again, with all seriousness, and now looking at you directly.

"I don't get it, Why would you ask that, of all things? What is all this about, doctor?" you keep asking too, you need answers.

"THIS, as I said before, is about your security, and ours, we need to evaluate everything, including if you could represent a possible danger, not only to us, but for yourself too, Mr. Gob" Grey responds, it's still a calm voice, but you could feel an agressive tone in his answer too.

"I just..." you stand up, looking at the mirror, the sight of your reflection just stops you.

Your whole body is black as that dark void, not just your hands, including the clothes you're using, you have to admit that you look pretty fancy, though. You can't see anything in your face neither, no eyes, no nose, no mouth, you could swear you saw a white smile in your face for a fraction of a second, but it's probably your mind playing tricks again.

You hear Grey sigh behind you, "Look, I have enough information for now, want some tea?" you look back, he's still sitting in the table, but now there are two steaming mugs over it, those weren't there when you got up. You take a seat again.

"I'll be right back, I need to deliver this, please wait here." The scientist said, getting up, taking a mug, and walking to the door.

You hear the door open, and close again, but when you look at it, its light is still green. Looking back at the mug, you notice it has a symbol on it, you assume it's the foundation symbol.

Ignoring the door, you wait for Dr. Grey as he asked you to. While looking at the tea, you doubt if drinking it for a brief moment, but, after all, he doesn't have a reason to poison you or anything, right?

You take the black mug and get it closer to your face, you can feel the warm steam as you take a sip out of it. The smell and taste of it is surprisingly... Familiar, in seconds you recall the name "Earl Grey", and then, you start remembering something.

Suddenly you find yourself looking through a window into the night sky, you can hear rain, looking down you notice you're sitting on a different table, and your hand, now holding a white tea cup, is more human, without that void color. A feeling of sadness is all around this memory, but you don't know why.

"Are you feeling alright, darling?"

You hear a familiar, feminine voice in front of you. And then, the memory ends, without having the chance to see who said those words.

You look around, you're back in the room, and the mug still in your dark hand, wondering if that memory could mean something, or nothing at all.

You stand up of your seat, taking sips of the tea, looking at yourself in the mirror once again. You wave at your reflection and it waves back at you, of course, that's how mirrors work, but it makes you feel strange anyway, like you're looking at a completely different person, maybe your mind hasn't adapted to looking at yourself after so long? You don't even know how much time you spent in the dark, but you know it was too much for sure.

Once you finish your tea, you sit down again and place the mug on the table, still waiting.

As the time goes on, you wonder why is Grey taking so long, all he was going to do was delivering some papers. An hour passes, or at least you think that, the room not having a window or any way of telling the hour doesn't really help, you hear the door slide open again.

"Excuse me for the delay, we're almost finished with this process." you hear Dr. Grey after the door opens, not stepping inside.

"So, I have to ask you to follow me again please, everything should be ready for our last step."

You walk behind him, through the labyrinth of corridors that is this place. You arrive to another door at the end of a corridor, this one is double, and doesn't have a light, but two buttons at its side, one pointing up, one pointing down.

Grey presses the down button, and it turns green, but the door doesn't open, he looks like he's waiting for something to happen, looking front, arms crossed, totally quiet.

You decide to break the silence and start asking some questions while you two wait for the door to open, getting more information would be useful.

"What exactly do you work with?"

"I'm the lead supervisor of this installation, we work with anomalies, powers out of world, anything that most people would consider 'not normal' or impossible." Dr. Grey starts talking, not moving or looking at you, just waiting for the door. "We make sure it remains like that, investigating myths, making sure they're not just mere fantasy, and finding them before anyone else. They don't know, but we are protecting humanity doing this, and we've been doing it for centuries." as he finished saying those words, the doors opened, revealing a seemingly empty small room, like a box.

You both walk inside, and he presses another button, and you feel how the room starts moving down after the doors close again.

"What is this place?" You ask, now that it looks like you have to wait again.

"This is one of the foundation's secret research facilities, a complex specially designed so we can investigate and experiment freely. A summoning like yours would call too much unwanted attention if we made it somewhere else, just to name an example."

"Why did you call me 'Duke of Darkness'?" you finally ask it, sounds good, but no one calls someone a duke for no reason.

"That's how the evidence we've found refers to you." that's all he says about it.

"If the outfit I'm wearing is part of me, am I naked?" why did you ask that? You have no idea.

"I..." He stays silent for a second, "I didn't know that." Luckily enough, the doors opening again cut the awkward moment.

The first thing you see is, to your surprise, more people, they're using some kind of black armor and standing in front of the doors across the long hallway, they look like guards.

"Sir! Dr. Kross is waiting for you." one of the closer guards tells to Grey.

"I know, that's exactly why we are here, number..."

"126, Sir."

"Right... Go back to your place, 126." Grey orders the guard, pointing to the left, at the only door without someone in front, and the guard walks to it without saying a word.

"Forgive the guards, they can be so... useless sometimes." Grey says to you as he starts walking, you behind him.

You move through the corridor, the guards are completely still, in front of every door you get past. Finally you get to the final door, the guard moves to the side and leaves you pass as the door opens, with the usual beeping sound and red-to-green color change.

Getting inside, you see a big tube, part of some kind of machine. The room has 2 windows to the sides, and you can see more people in lab coats sitting at the other side. There's a Scientist doing something with the machine, touching buttons, before turning around after hearing the door.

"Ah, Finally! I was starting to think you wouldn't come." The scientist says to Grey.

"Paperwork takes time, Kross." Grey responds, you notice some annoyance in his voice.

"I know, I know, and you must be the duke of darkness himself if I guess right?" Kross gestures a lot with his hands, ending with a bow. As he moves his hands, you can hear a little mechanical noise coming from his left arm.

"Dr. Kross will be the one in charge of the last step, this device analyzes your structure composition, and let us know your potential." Grey tells you, before turning back and walking to the door "I'll leave now, my partner will explain the rest." You hear the door close behind him, the light still green.

"It's easy," Kross starts talking while he walks to the machine "You enter in this capsule," he presses a button and the tube slides up, opening. "And after that, it will start to scan you for a minute, that's it!" The scientist says with a smile in his face.

You see movement at the right window, and spot Grey taking a seat next to the other scientists looking at the room.

"So if you understand, let's get moving! we need these results as quick as possible." Kross tells you, pointing at the capsule.

You hear another beeping sound behind you, and looking back, the light has turned red again.

Heading to the capsule, you try to play it safe and 'unscrewing' your hand to throw it inside. It doesn't work, you just can't take your hand off, dissapointing but not unexpected.

You step inside the device, "Oh, yeah, this could hurt a little," Dr. Kross tells you, turning down a lever in the control panel. "or perhaps a lot." before you could react, the glass tube closes around you.

You hear electrical noises, and in a matter of seconds you feel your whole body being electrocuted, every single part of you in pain, and unable to move. Outside the machine, you see Dr. Kross with a grin in his face and pressing buttons, he's genuinely enjoying it.

The electrical charge increases, your body shakes in pain, and you just can't take it anymore, it burns, and you feel like you're going to die. However, the pain suddenly disappears, not just that, you completely lose control of your body too, you're like an spectator looking through your own eyes.

Your body starts punching the glass trying to break it, it seems resistant, but after a few hits it shatters in hundreds of pieces and an alarm goes off. Fast enough, you continue destroying the wires, the control panel, and every part of the machine like a wild animal.

"HEY HEY HEY! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING--" before Kross could finish, you grab him by the neck, his coat starts turning black and you feel the fear in his eyes just before sending him flying into a window, crashing it and falling unconscious in the ground.

"Code red. Incident level 3 in progress. Containment required." a neutral female voice echoes through the building.

The door opens again and two guards enter the room with some kind of weapons in their hands.

"Freeze!" They shout, aiming at you.

After they say that, you regain full control of yourself, you still feel some pain, but you're just too busy thinking about what the hell just happened.

You think turning the lights off would make your escape easier, but the only problem is that you haven't really seen a way to turn them off, or to open the doors, they just work by themselves somehow.

"Stay right there!" one of the guards says while lowering his weapon, reaching something in his back and walking to you.

And that leaves you the perfect moment to escape! You run past him while he's distracted, the other guard tries to tackle you, but he just ends up over his partner while you make your way into the hallway, "Come on Jim! You're supposed to shoot at it!" he screams, alerting the others outside.

A guard starts shooting as soon as you get out, just to hit the walls over and over again until the weapon stops working, their weapons don't use bullets, but rather some kind of burning light. Then, other two jump to catch you, bumping into each other when you slide across the floor and, just before getting to the doors, the last guard tries to kick you, missing and falling pathetically into the ground.

Grey was right, they are pretty much useless, you press the 'up' button and the doors open, way faster than before, you enter and press another button.

"Hey don't let it escape!" you hear the first two guards while they're running in your direction, just before the doors closed.

You feel the small room moving again, taking breath and calming yourself for a minute in the silence of this metal box. The calm doesn't last, after a while you feel the room shaking and stopping abruptly, the doors not opening.

"It must be there! Open the door!" you hear muffled voices outside.

You need a way out now, and looking around the only exit is a hatch in the ceiling, so you jump and reach it, pulling a lever to open it and jumping again to get up. Just as you get outside, you hear the door opening, footsteps, and then a conversation between two guards.

"Jim, we get a million A MONTH."

"Yeah but think about this, is it enough? we have to deal with these abominations all day, every day!"

"you know what they say, money is money, quit if you want, I'm good."

"Well, we'll get fired anyway if we don't get that thing..."

"Keep looking then, it couldn't have vanished! Or... Did he? Aw, I hate those ones."

Looking around, you find yourself inside a long vertical shaft, the room is suspended in the air by a pulley system with two thick metal cables, it's probably what makes it move. One of the walls has doors, all closed except for the one in the room with guards below you, and a ladder all the way to the top.

You see there are eight floors after counting the doors, and you're currently at the sixth. Perhaps you could use the ladder and try to open one of those doors somehow, simply stay hidden and wait for someone to push the buttons again, or just take the risk and use this floor's door.

After you hear the guards footsteps walking away, you jump back into the cabin, making noise when you land on the metal floor.

"Did you hear something?"

"Nah."

"Yeah, me neither." The two guards keep walking, turning right in the next corner, not looking back.

"Prototype R-56 test starting soon at room 14. Technicians required." The same neutral female voice echoes through the halls.

Outside the room, you notice the doors on this floor are numbered and have names on them, and every room has a window. Most of the doors have green lights and foggy windows, but some of the rooms have clear windows with red lights.

You hear voices of a group of people, coming from one of the hallways to the right. You don't know if they're guards or scientists, but they're getting near to where you are.

You inspect the closer doors, maybe you could get inside one the rooms to avoid being seen, or not, and try to take them down before they alarm more guards.

As the voices get even closer, you quickly move to the only room with a finished test, room 15 "Psychic Signal Blocker".

The door opens when you walk near enough and enter, revealing the room walls are covered in metal, some burns on them, and blood drops over the floor. There's a big glass box in the middle of the room, inside of it you see a pillar with what looks like a pocket watch. Something happened here, something bad.

The voices in the corridor become muffled as the door close behind you, and someone inside the room that you didn't see before talks to you.

"I'm sorry sir, I haven't finished cleaning this room yet--" your eyes meet an old woman, she's next to a cart with bottles, a mop in her hands, looks like she was cleaning.

She looks shocked after seeing you, but soon she starts moving very slowly towards a red button in the wall to her left, not stopping the eye contact.

"Don't" you say, whatever that button does, it can't be good.

"...Ok." she's just frozen in panic, staring at you like if she just saw a ghost.

You walk closer to the box, the strange watch-like device inside is emitting a soft purple light.

You hear footsteps, and the woman has moved a little when you look back.

"S-Sorry" she stops moving again.

After a minute of silence and just looking at each other without moving a muscle, you take breath, and try to calm her down.

"I mean no harm. The people here eletrocuted me and I managed to escape so please stop trying to press that button." she stays silent, still afraid of you. You slowly start walking closer "Look, I really don't want to be tortured again, so can you please not tell anyone I'm here? I promise I won't hurt you, even if you tell them. I just don't want them to hurt me." you say, you just don't want to experience that pain again. She looks less scared after hearing your words, but still no words come out of her mouth.

"Well, no need to be so tense. I'm 126, and who may you be?" you use the number of that guard from before, for some reason, extending your hand.

"I'm Martha, n-nice to meet you... sir." she says her name, taking a step closer but not extending her hand too.

"Don't leave me hanging ma'am." you move your hand.

She accepts the handshake with trembling hands, and everything calms down. Or you thought so, because after a second, you see her hand starts to turn black like that scientist's lab coat, spreading to her forearm. Her eyes go wide open and she lets out a loud scream before passing out and falling back.

"Ma'am? Ma'am!" you try to wake her up without touching her, but it doesn't work. You have no idea if it was for the shock, the pain, or something else, but she won't wake up, as those shadows are going slowly up her arm.

No one comes inside the room after her scream, you think it's because the metal walls are thick enough to supress the sound, or no one cares about people's suffering in this place, or both, probably both.

"Prototype R-56 Test started at room 14." you hear that female announcer voice again.

The room feels even more quiet now. Sure, before no one was talking, but now the only person you could talk to is lying in the ground with a black arm that doesn't look good. you can't help but feel guilty about it, even though you didn't know that it would happen.

You give a look to the bottles in her cart, seemingly cleaning products, so you think to yourself that trying to 'clean' her arm would be worth a try. You take the three bottles in it, take off the caps and pour it over her black arm, it just forms a chemical puddle in the floor and nothing else, the dark part of the old lady's arm doesn't go away. At least you tried.

You look back to the glass box in the middle of the room. Perhaps that watch could work for something later, and you probably can take it, no one else is in the room to see you anyway. The box has no visible openings, but as you place your palm on the glass, a door frame appears, so you step inside and take it. After you get out of the box a second later, the door disappears and the box seems solid once again.

With the watch in your hand, you inspect it closer, and you don't see anything you didn't saw before. It doesn't tick like a clock, It doesn't really does anything, just has that purple light. You notice a new thing about it when you start touching it though, the thing on top of it is a button.

getting closer to the old woman in the floor just in case it helps, you press the button out of curiosity. You instantly regret it when the light becomes brighter, it doesn't really emits any sound, but you start to feel a -really- strong headache and you can't hear anything but a beeping sound in your ears. The pain makes you fall on your knees and the watch falls to the ground a few steps from you, but you crawl to it and push the button as fast as you can. It stops, the headache fades out and the purple light becomes soft again, you stand up, the woman's arm is still covered in darkness.

The purpose of the artifact in your hands is unknown to you except for the name you saw on the door, maybe you'll know more about it later? Maybe it's just useless? Either way, you keep it. You open your jacket and put it inside where the pockets should be, and you find that there's indeed a pocket. At least your jacket works like a normal jacket, that's good.

>Strange Watch Obtained!

Before leaving the room, you look at the unconscious woman, you feel like it wouldn't be a good idea to leave her here. Considering what they did to you, if they find her here, she could end as another test subject to take your place. A gentleman wouldn't leave a lady like that, after all.

You think in a way to take her with you without touching her, who knows what will happen if you touch her twice. Checking the room, your eyes quickly find her, now empty, cart again, that could work. You get the cart closer and lift her by the shadow-covered arm, placing her over it. She must be really light or you are really strong to do that, considering what you did to that man, Kross, before, you guess for the second.

You move with the cart to the door, it opens when you get close enough like before and you're back in the hallway.

"Attention security personal, Test Subject A-608 hasn't been contained yet, I don't need to mention that it's extremely important, so please do your job, and get it as soon as possible. Thank you." It's Grey's voice that echoes through the building now, he doesn't sound happy, not angry neither, it's more like... annoyed.

You don't hear more footsteps or voices near you anymore, they must be busy in the test rooms.

You keep moving forward through the corridor. Except for the occasional muffled explosion coming from the rooms, the only sound you hear is the cart wheels as they spin.

You walk past some doors with red lights, and some with green lights too, but none of them call your attention enough to stop by. When you finally get to the end of the corridor, you notice it ends in a T, and there's no door but two signs. The first sign says "Emergency Stairs" and points to the left, the second says "Test Control Room" and points to the right.

There are 2 doors near you, one of them, "Room 6, [Empty]", has a red light, looking through the window you see that it's in fact empty. The other, "Room 8, [Anomaly Tracking System, Test 7]", is green, the window is foggy in this one.

You hear a door opening and footsteps coming from the right hallway, but they stop. Taking a quick peek, you see they're two guards who are just standing there, chatting.

"Do you heard what happened?"

"One of those things escaped, apparently Dr. Kross got injured, they're taking him to the medical bay upstairs."

"Huh, I didn't know that"

"The speakers said it, like, three times..."

"I'm a lil' distracted, ok?"

"Anyway, we should be looking for it."

"Uh, alone?"

"Actually, you're right there, we should call for some reinforcement"

"Roger." the guard pulls a small black rectangle out of his pocket.

"You know you don't need to say that every time I ask you something, right?"

"No?"

"38, do you even know how to shoot your rifle?"

"...Kinda."

"Uugh, We'll talk about that later, just... Call."

"Roger." the guard starts pushing stuff in the black rectangle in his hand.

You stop looking, those two were so distracted talking that they didn't see you. Well, now at least you know the guy isn't dead... wait, reinforcement?

"Why are you taking so long, it's just a damn call!"

"Just--" The guard with the rectangle is abruptly interrupted by you standing in front of them and pushing the cart to him! Sadly, it hits the wall and not him, it looked better in your mind.

"Huh?" the guard just turns to you in confusion.

"Sigh, just look." The other guard quickly points his weapon at you, and doesn't think twice when he starts shooting before you could even react.

After seeing the flashing light, a burning feel spreads through your body as you fall back to the ground. You look at it to find three literal holes from side to side in your chest, before everything starts fading black and the sounds become muffled.

"Ah well, we didn't need anyone else after all, did we? Wait, is that the cleaning lady?"

"38 here, we found it, requiring transport services to take it to th--" at that point their voices become unintelligible and everything goes completely black, once again.

When you wake up, you're sitting inside a really small room, metal floor, and the walls look like they're made of purple light, no doors or windows, you are trapped. The first thing you do is look at your chest, but the holes aren't there anymore, they just disappeared. The cleaning lady is lying next to you, still unconscious, the darkness has taken over half of her face by now.

The walls start moving, and take the form of bars, making it look like what it is, a cage. meanwhile, you hear slow claps.

"Good job, Mr. Gob... Good job..." It's Grey, standing in front of you, he's looking up to your prison, as it seems like it's suspended in the air, the disappointment in his face and voice is hard to ignore. He continues his slow clapping before talking again. "What was exactly your plan, anyway? First you break expensive technology, then, you try to kill one of our scientists, and now you try to... Kidnap the cleaning service lady?!" he puts his fingers in his forehead in frustration, "Look, I know it probably was because of the incompetence of Kross not telling you it could hurt for a few seconds, taking data out of you is more difficult than taking it from a human, you know?" he says, then pulls a lever from a control panel in front of him, and the cage starts moving down while you hear chains, stopping when it gets to the floor.

"But this is NOT the way to do it, it just... Won't work, you need to help us so we can help you."

While he's talking, you look around, the place you're in looks like a warehouse, with hundred if not thousands of cages like yours, some attached to the ceiling with chains, others in the ground, piled one over the other. You hear animal-like sounds, other scientists talking in the distance, even someone playing a flute far away. Most of the cages have solid light walls like you saw in yours before, but far away you see two who have bars, with scientists standing in front of them, but for the distance you can't see who or what is inside.

"And now look what you did to Kross and this poor woman, why? I thought you were offended by the sole mention of hurting humans, but here you are, doing it, like a wild animal given a chance..." he takes out a cigarette out of his pocket and starts smoking. "I'm sorry, I am just absolutely annoyed by this... Situation you caused." he slowly turns back, "You'll stay here in the cage, it’s just a precaution measure, don't worry it won't last much... But for now, have fun, Duke of darkness." he then starts to walk away.

"The lady" You raise your voice, Grey stops, but doesn't look back. "is she okay? I tried to shake her hand and she... collapsed." you say while looking at the unconscious woman.

"I just can say that was... Unfortunate, If that was what really happened..." he still doesn't look at you, slowly starting to walk away again.

"I didn't mean to, this never happened before. I'm not an animal." you try to explain.

"We'll do tests on her to know what is happening, and we'll probably solve it, worry not." he gets closer to your cage again. "But we ask for patience."

"...May I have one?" Seeing the cigarette in his mouth, you ask.

"What?" Grey raises an eyebrow, not getting it.

"A cigarette." you clarify.

"Uh, of course." he takes another one out of his pocket and throws it inside the cage, without fire. "Now, how I was saying... Have fun." he walks away, leaving a trail of smoke, before the walls of the room close again.

You feel how the cage moves up and you are left alone with your thoughts. Thinking about it, you was trapped in an infinite space of darkness before, but now you are trapped inside a small space sorrounded by light, isn't it ironic?

You take the cigar out of the cell floor, but without any fire, you can't smoke, maybe later.

> 1 Cigarette Obtained!

After a while you remember the strange watch, and you feel for it over your jacket, but you don't feel anything. However, when you look for it inside the pockets, you find it's still there, safe and sound. It's still emitting that weird purple light, it looks almost identical to the light in the walls, actually.

Time goes on, you've been sitting here for minutes, hours? you don't know, the watch doesn't even tells the hour, you save it inside your jacket again and keep waiting for something to happen. The cleaning lady doesn't wake up, that black thing is still covering half of her face like a mask.

After what felt like hours, you hear a loud crash coming from below your cell, followed by electrical sounds and the cage shaking before falling quickly to the ground, and the walls disappearing. Looking around to try to understand what happened, you see the control panel Grey was using before totally destroyed, there's a small paper with something written on it in the floor, you pick it up.

"The show must go on ;)" red ink, no signature or anything, just that.

There are cells like yours around, with control panels too, but none of them is damaged.

Suddenly, you hear a loud growl coming from the far right and the ground trembles below your feet, something that feels like really big footsteps, coming from a REALLY big animal.

"Oh god, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!" you hear a voice, followed by gunshots, and then screaming. "NEED BACKUP, REPEAT, NEED BACK-- WAAAAH!!" you hear another voice that fades into the distance, like it was moving at high speed.
>>
>>4466197

An alarm goes off, the gunshots continue, it looks like a battle is taking place between the guards and some kind of beast here, but you can't see it. One thing is sure, you have to get out of here. You look back to the old woman, the cart is nowhere to be seen, so if you want to take her, you'll have to carry her taking the risk of touching her again, or perhaps you could think of a better idea to take her with you...

You quickly start following the noise, leaving the old lady behind, they have better ways to help her in this place, and Grey said they could solve it.

The trembling ground, screaming and growls don't stop as you get closer to its source, but the gunshots become fewer.

When you're turning around a corner, a guard is sent flying past you, and you can hear his helmet cracking after landing. And then, you see it: a big, hairy, quadruped creature, with five shining red eyes, dark fur, and knife-sharp claws and fangs. It's something you could only describe as a monstrous wild beast, standing imposingly among a dozen of motionless guards with damaged armor lying on the ground, some of them are even missing limbs, their weapons are next to them, but most are broken.

When you're about to step back, you meet the creature's menacing eyes all locked on you, looking at you like a predator looking at its prey, before emitting a powerful roar that echoes through the whole floor and charging in your direction, Ah hell.

> 85, Success

You stand still, preparing yourself as the beast dashes towards you, and when it's about to attack, you jump to its side just in time to avoid the creature's claws and touch it.

"Good boy." you say as your fingers touch the already dark fur, making it even darker, tainting a chunk of its chest black. The monster shrieks in pain, and rolls after it falls to the ground.

You sigh in relief, until you notice that thing is still fully conscious and regains balance after a second, the darkness still slowly spreading through its body. Maybe that wasn't the reason that lady passed out after all, but the fact that it's still awake isn't good for you.

"Freeze!" You hear two voices behind you, followed by a metallic click sound, you're pretty sure they're guards, again.

The beast doesn't look very frightened by the order, and neither -sounds- very frightened, considering it is grunting with no good intention, looking at you and whoever is behind you like fresh food.

You sigh, turn around to face the guards, and clear your throat to talk to them before that thing kills you all.

"Excuse me, would you, jolly gents, direct your heed to the business at hand?" you tell them kindly, and they look at each other, clearly having no clue of what you just said. "And by that, I mean doing your job." you simplify, pointing behind you.

"Oh, well, yeah, I... I guess we should" one of them steps in front of you.

"Could you kindly follow this gentleman back to your cell? I promise to visit" you turn around again and tell, mostly jokingly, to the wild creature who doesn't care much about dialogue.

"Come on, kitty kitty kitty, let's go back to your cage--" as soon as the guard said that word the creature roared again, and you know what's coming. "...Wait wait! i mean hous-- OH GOD!"

The beast doesn't wait for the guard to correct before jumping over him and starting shredding as he screams in agony. the guard behind you starts shooting and begins to lose his focus on you as he's trying to stop the creature from eating his partner alive. The first shots seem to have no effect over that thing, but you don't care, this is your chance to not get killed. As soon as the shooting guard steps in front of you, you run in the opposite direction.

"Hey! Sto-- AAGH!" You hear how the creature stomps him as well, making the ground shake, but you keep running as the man can't do anything but scream.

You dash past an empty cage with a broken panel like yours before turning around a corner and hiding behind a closed cell, with an undamaged panel like most of the other cells in the place.

The screams of agony slowly stop and when they're completely gone, you hear the creature roar powerfully once again, and its heavy footsteps becoming closer and closer.

You hurry and keep running, turning between the cells to avoid being seen by the bloodthirsty beast. Considering the place is mostly quiet now that the scientists probably ran away and the only thing you can hear besides your and the beast's footsteps is that distant flute song from earlier, you know the creature can hear you too and it's following you. That's not extremely bad, you think, because you're getting it away from that innocent lady, but the 'getting eaten' part is still pretty bad.

After you pass by dozens of identical cages, you finally find one of the walls of the place, and you rush next to it trying to find a door, a ladder, anything to get out of this place. As you're running in a straight line now, when you look back you see the hellhound chasing you while growling with unstoppable rage. The black spot is crawling down its leg but it doesn't stops it more than a little limping that doesn't reduce its speed, and you definitely won't reduce yours.

You finally see a double door as you keep running, the light is red but soon enough it turns green and opens. A clueless guard casually steps through and takes a second to notice that you, accompanied by a not-so-friendly monster, are running in his general direction, quickly taking out his weapon with shaky hands as you get closer.

You keep heading to the door as you hear the beast heavy footsteps and growls following you closely. The guard prepares to aim but you slide past him without thinking twice. You only see the room is a, kind-of dark, tunnel with stairs going up, and that's where you'll be going, up.

"My good sir, I ask you to do your job!" you shout to the guard as you run upstairs. You're not sure if he heard it though, now that he's too busy shooting at that thing.

You keep going up, hearing the guard shooting, then, most probably, dying, as his screams suggest. It stops for a moment before you hear even more gunshots coming from multiple places down there, soon transformed into even more agony and the wild animal growls. The sounds of the bloodshed fade away as you step higher through the stairs, finally getting to what seems like the next floor, with a door and a sign, "[2] Experimentation", It appears locked judging by the red light.

Looking at the stairs again, you can see they go a long way up, probably through a bunch of floors, perhaps one of those other floor doors could be open.

You hear how the agony downstairs totally disappear and just the beast roars and growls remain. You know it's just a matter of time until it follows you up here, so you decide to keep moving.

You make your way through the stairs, going up to the next floor, your footsteps echoing. When you get to the next floor, it's almost identical to the downstairs one: a locked door and a sign, this time it reads "[3] Anomalous Objects".

As you are inspecting the sign, you hear how the creature growls get closer coming from below, as well as distant voices and hurried footsteps coming from above.

"Foxtrot-6-3 Team, in the way." Guards, by now you feel like they all have the same voice or something.

You are sorrounded, that's a sure thing, and when you're starting to think in a way to escape, you hear a 'beep' behind you, and the door has opened, before you could doubt or even react you hear a gunshot.

"Contact!" you hear one of the guards shouting.

Even though -you- had no time to react, -your body- reacted, and you feel like you just got pushed inside the door, falling in the floor and the door closing behind you, turning red.

"Hey! Open up!" you hear a muffled voice, followed by a muffled growl, "...Oh no." and with that, gunshots and screams are heard again.

You stand up while looking around. You're in a hallway full of doors, you have noticed those are pretty common in this place, nothing to be surprised. The doors are numbered, but this floor doesn't have windows or signs telling what the rooms contain. Also, every door has a small device next to it, with glass and lights of different colors, when you get closer to examine them, you see they use some kind of system:

"[Level 1 Card Required]" the light is green, but the door has a red one and won't open.

"[Level 2 Card Required]" Blue light. As the first, it won't open.

"[Level 3 Card Required]" Yellow light.

"[Level 4 Card Required" Red light.

Considering the text on every single one of them and also what looks like a small opening, you assume you need some kind of card like poker ones? to unlock them, but the question now is, how can you get one?

You keep walking through the corridors, it's all quiet again, not a single sound except for your shoes against the ground as you walk. As far as you can see, all the doors except the one you came from have the same green, blue, yellow and red devices, perhaps there's a way to get inside them without a card.

Suddenly, you hear some voices and footsteps, but you don't worry too much because they are far away from you and apparently are not in a hurry.

You walk, starting to follow the noise, and trying to keep your steps quiet as you get closer to avoid getting heard by the people you're following. You finally get close enough to see them, hiding behind a corner so they can't see you.

There are three persons, two are using lab coats like all the scientists you've seen, and one is using some kind of protective white suit that covers its whole body, but looks softer than the armors the guards use, more like a big marshmallow, it also has the sun-shaped symbol you saw in that tea cup earlier on the back.

You're fast to notice that the two scientists have green cards with a "1" on them, attached to their belts.

"Do you know anything about Kross?" one of the scientists asks as they walk.

"They were treating him the last time I heard about him..." the other scientists responds.

"That bastard is a lucky one for sure!" the big suit guy says, the sound of his voice is muffled, like coming from inside a bag, well, he's basically inside a bag.

"I know! But they caught the subject that caused it, right?" the first scientist says.

"Nope, I swear to god those guards get more stupid every day." the second scientists responds, shaking his head. They turn around a corner, and you continue following them and hearing the conversation.

"I hope this doesn't need alpha units, the last time they used them the place was a mess!" you hear the marshmellow-shaped man say, he sounds like he's joking, but worried as well.

"See the bright side, at least we get some days off!" one of the scientists jokes about it, and they all laugh why? It wasn't even THAT funny.

They stop at a door with a green device, and one of the scientists takes his card and slides it through the opening.

"Access denied." you hear a voice coming from inside the little machine, sounds like the one you heard before, that neutral woman tone.

"Huh, Must be dirty or something." he cleans the card with his pants and tries it again.

"Access Denied." the voice repeats.

"Ah! What is wrong with this thing!" the scientist says, annoyed.

"Do you updated it with the new system?" the white suit man asks him.

"Of course I did! This poor quality scanner is the problem..." he tries to clean the card again, with his lab coat this time. The other two look distracted by the man's failed attempts.

You slowly move closer to the scientist with the remaining card, getting behind him as stealthy as you can while the other scientist keeps trying to use his own card, and with a smooth hand movement, you take the card out of his pocket.

> Level 1 Keycard Obtained!

You quietly walk back and turn around the corner, quickly starting to move away from them before they notice the card is gone.

"You tried restarting it?" you hear their voices as you walk away.

"You can't restart these things..."

"Come on just use mine..." he stays silent for a second.

"You lost it, didn't you?"

"...I probably left it in the cafeteria again." that's the last thing you hear before getting too far to understand what they're saying. The hallway becomes quiet again, just hearing your footsteps. Well, at least you heard that they don't know it was you who took that card, that's good.

Now that you think about noises, you didn't heard that hellhound breaking the door or its growls in a while. It's not in this floor, but that thing is probably out there, somewhere... or the guards actually catched it, who knows.

Walking through the corridor, you decide to test the card, stopping at the first door with a green device you find and sliding the card inside it like the scientist was doing.

"Access Granted." the voice inside the small machine says as the door beeps and slides open.

"Thank you" You said cordially. You don't know if it can actually hear you, though.

You step inside and the door closes behind you, you notice this room is almost identical to the one where you found the watch, with the walls covered in metal. You hear a voice is mumbling in very low volume, saying something you can't really understand. And at the far end of the room, you see one of those solid light walls, but this one is more transparent, letting you see what is at the other side.

Behind the wall, you see some kind of wooden tribal mask, standing on a pedestal like the one where the watch was. When you look at it directly, you inexplicably feel bad vibes coming from it, like there's an invisible aura around the mask, and the mumbling increases its volume a little, but you can't understand it yet, it seems to be speaking in a weird language you've never heard before. That and the its aspect just makes it really disturbing to look at.

In the wall next to the light barrier, you see there's another green card device that you assume opens it, with a sign above it, getting closer you read "Object 740".

Maybe unlocking the wall would be a bad idea, the very nature of that mask seems pretty... Sinister. in the other side, it looks pretty cool and, hey, a new strange item for the collection!

Preparing to take the card and slide it through the device, you think about getting information about the mask first. Unfortunately, as the room where you found the watch, this room's only purpose seems to be for storage of the item. Without any information, documents, anything, just the card device, the pedestal, and the light wall between you and the mask. Knowing about the foundation's purpose said by Grey, you're almost sure they must have archived somewhere their investigations and information about the items you've seen, but it's not here.

You slide the card and after the usual beep, the wall begins to disappear. You quickly plug your ears in case the noise increases, but you notice after the barrier is completely gone that the mumbling is still pretty low, only increasing when you look at it directly.

When you walk closer, the bad feeling doesn't go away, but you decide to take the mask anyway. As soon as you lay a finger on it, you hear the ear-piercing sound of millions of voices screaming at the same time, in agony and calling for help, accompanied with gunshots, explosions and all kind of sounds. You see hundreds of horrifying scenes passing before your eyes in a second: storms, dripping blood, fire, metallic killing machines, all kind of weapons being shot, people and animals dying, and explosions like you've never seen before, reaching the skies in the shape of big mushrooms. All that just lasts that, a second, and everything goes back to normal. The mask is in your hand, but it has lowered its whispers to a point where it's almost inaudible.

You keep looking at it for a moment as you calm yourself down after seeing... whatever that was. Then, you open your jacket and try to save it inside, will it even fit in any of the pockets? It's kind of-- huh, it actually gets inside a pocket, and when you close your jacket the sound totally vanishes. You don't even feel that it's in there anymore, like its full weight just... disappeared.

Having done everything you could do in this room, you take the green card again and open the door, getting to the hallway. Decided to go back to check on that hellish creature, you walk towards the stairs room you came from. In the way, you hear the same scientists still trying to unlock the door, without success, but they're easily avoidable and you continue walking.

You reach the door, the only one that doesn't have a card device, just showing a red light, locked. Getting closer does nothing, the door is closed and doesn't look like it will open. you can't hear anything coming from the other side, the beast either went to another place looking for victims, or got captured. Anyway, a little check won't hurt anyone, right?

You take breath and prepare to force open that door! But there's a small problem, there's no space between the door and the frame, it's totally sealed. Without more options to open it, you clench your fists to tear that metal apart, and your claw-looking fingers will surely help with that. You hit the door as hard as you can, causing a really loud noise, easily heard in these otherwise silent halls. Looking at the area of impact, it was enough to dent the surface but not to break it, and the blow left your hand hurting, the metal must be a really tough one.

"Y'know, we should've looked for my keycard first-- wait, do you heard that?!" you hear the scientists, and they're getting nearer.

You'll manage to open that door later, you have to avoid those men right now unless you want to be seen. Card in hand, you head to the nearest door with a green device, unlocking it and getting inside, both to hide and to see another interesting object.

The room has normal walls, white panels like most. But, unlike the mostly empty walls of the mask room, there's a big device with a countdown in one of them, currently at "00:10", and the sign and card device under it, this sign says "Object 068". In the middle of the room, you see a box like the one the watch was, but made of light barriers. Inside the box, the usual pedestal, and over it you see this room's item, a... Ball, a crystal ball, doesn't emit any sound or anything, it's the size of a tennis ball, transparent because it's glass... Doesn't look very... unconventional, maybe someone left it here by accident?

-Beep Beep Beep-

You hear the clock as it hits zero, restarting to "00:30". When you look back at the ball, it appears to be... changing, like a chameleon with its color, you see how it goes from clear glass to a yellow and reflectant material, now it actually looks like a tennis ball, kind of. Well, you find it a little interesting at least.

You hold on for a moment, expecting the countdown to end again and see what the ball does next. You move around the room, looking how the number decrease.

-Beep Beep Beep-

The clock hits zero and restarts again. Now you hear a faint grinding sound coming from the sphere, changing from smooth and yellow to black with a more rocky texture. Coal is what comes to your mind looking at it, when suddenly the ball starts producing sparks and sets on fire, like a torch. If it's not coal, it's as flammable as it, if not more. But, you have to admit, seeing that was quite entertaining.

You notice that even when the pedestal looks to be made of some kind of metal, it doesn't melt or gets affected at all by the flames from the fireball.

Looking back, the clock is at "00:26" and descending, still some time left until the next transformation.

have we prepare any excuse for our kleptomaniac tendencies?
so far we have stolen 3 artifacts and a keycard.
it's going to be akard explaining it to Mr. Grey
maybe we just need to avoid him

Seeing that flames show finishes convincing you to, once again, unlock the barriers and taking the item. and so you do, after sliding the card and making the walls around the artifact disappear, you extend your hand and grab it.

Half a second with the burning ball in your hand, you start to regret it, not for stealing it, but for taking something literally on fire with your bare hands. You feel how your hand burns, but somehow you can still grab it. it hurts, yes, but you're pretty sure it should hurt -way more- than this, it feels more like a graze or a simple cut, not a third degree burn. It results interesting to you, but considering the temperature you feel coming from the sphere is pretty consistent with having your hand on fire, you suspect it's -you- who is more resistant to the damage produced by it.

You open your jacket, wait, you're gonna put that thing on fire in your-- You put it inside a pocket and your jacket is, somehow, not covered in flames, and you can't feel it's hot anymore. Like the mask and the watch, their whole weight just vanished as soon as it got inside the pocket. This is a good jacket for sure.

> "Morph Ball" Obtained!

There's nothing else to do around here, so you unlock the door and step into the hallway to think about your next action. And, as the door closes behind you, you hear a voice echoing through the building once again.

"Attention, I'm once again reminding security personnel the importance of containing the subjects, A-608 and A-470 to be exact. If you don't want to think about the potential risk for the installation, think about the risk for your jobs, I'm sure you know what I mean." Grey, with his usual calm tone, though you feel some frustration in his voice.

Walking through the place, you notice the door to the stairs is half open. Looks to be trying to open completely, but it bumps over and over with the frame and it can't, getting closer you see why: the dent you made before, you think that's quite convenient. Looking inside, you see a group of four guards in the ground, motionless, broken armor, probably dead, you also see their weapons are next to them.

> Go into the stairs (which floor?)

> Seems dangerous, look for another exit

> Get inside ANOTHER room and steal more stuff!

>>4486691
I was about to link it, thank u anon!

>>4486029
pretty alright so far, at the start I didn't think about how much it would actually take to write (and draw, mostly draw) the updates, but I think I've kept it pretty constant in the daily updating.

Also idk so much about narration and writing, so I've been trying to read some other quests to see how other QMs describe things and that stuff, also the advice anons give to people asking in the qtg is quite useful so that's why any tip or advice would be cool if you guys have any

Anyway, I hope y'all are enjoying the quest so far!
