You are a young women of 14 years from the village of Hawkfall. You live with your father and mother, and are an only child. Your father is a butcher at the local lord's castle, and so while your family is not affluent, you've never had to go hungry and are in a respectable position for a commoner.
You have a set of decent clothes but otherwise no real possessions to call your own.

First of all, what is your name, and what is a long term goal you've always held?

Your name is Sneed. You don't know why you were named this, but you've picked up bits and pieces and understand your father was very drunk when he took you to be blessed under the gods.
Which god did he take you to be blessed under? [Evens decide]
>Erastil, God of Hunting, Families and Community
>Shelyn, Goddess of Art, Beauty and,Love
>Pharasma, Goddess of Birth, Death and Fate

You've always dreamed of having your own store, perhaps selling farming supplies to the other peasants, that's something you understand.

You're still developing as a person, but find yourself pretty average all around right now. You enjoy helping out during the harvest due to your interest in farming you've build up a bit of consitution as a result.

You received your name under the blessing of Erastil, the god of Hunting, Families and Community, like many in your community, though unlike many of the other girls, who more typically were blessed by Pharasma or Shelyn.

Your eyes are noted to have a wild green colour to them, and you've always been strong for a girl your age. You're not one for sitting around and so never had much instict to pick up a book however.

Winter soon sets in, and hunting with your uncle becomes too dangerous for an unseasoned hunter such as yourself, so you now find yourself spending your days in village and Castle courtyard. One morning, you wake up with a free day ahead of you and need to decide what to do. The winter traders market is in town, and you remember the smells and foods were amazing last year (it might also be helpful to see some real merchants plying their trade if you ever want to go into business). However, the local boys are having a mock fight in snow, and it could be fun to slam a snowball into Fat Billy's face. But then, you could also take your bow and risk going out hunting alone...dangerous business, but you're sure your uncle is underestimating you.
Or you could just stay home in the warmth, your mother is always saying you don't take her home crafting lessons seriously enough...

>Spend time at the winter traders market.
>Sneak out to go hunting by yourself.

You consider your options, but overhearing the boys laughing, you can't hold yourself back from having some fun and you rush out to join them on the field. You can learn to be a merchant another day, and hunting is safer in spring.

You charge in and begin hurling snowballs at the nearest target, clocking Fat Billy right in the jaw just like you knew you would. A snowball suddenly flies past your head, only missing by an inch or so. You turn to see a boy you don't recognise, he's tall and seems strong and you've unfortunatly gained his attention. Before you can even gather up snow for a retaliation, he's already hurling another large mound of snow your way!

Good thing you went home before you wore yourself out too much more, you recover the next day before the illness can get a grip of you, and thanks to you being in good shape as well!

A few days later, you find out the boy who clocked you with that snowball was actually the nephew of Lord Garess himself, seeing him in the castle in more noble garb. He doesn't seem to recognise you however...

The winter melts away into a glorious spring eventually. You enjoy hunting with your Uncle once the weather clears and you continue to grow and come into yourself. Before you know it, another year has passed and you're about to turn 16.

It's the height of summer, the sun beats down on your town. You're getting ready to head out, when your mother stops you at the door and frowns at your tattered clothes - now a little too small and tattered from so many trips out to the forest. She tells you to go to the Castle and speak to your father about getting some new garbs for your birthday. Her nose also wrinkles she suggests you go wash first.

You consider what to do today first...

>Follow Mother's advice and go get washed up first. You found a lake the other day that was pretty tucked away.
>Go to the castle now and speak to your father about getting some coin for new clothes right away.
>Forget the suggestion and stay as you are - go help out with some farming.

Your great first adventure alone is something of disaster. You wander aimlessly for hours and get lost a few times. You don't find any animal tracks and find yourself tired and hungry by the time you manage to find your way home again.

Not only that, but you missed most of your birthday and you return home to find your mother cross with you for not following her instructions. Definately going down on the books as one of the worst birthdays you've ever had.

Still, dawn brings a new day and new possibilites. You hear voices from other girls in the town whispering excitedly pass by your window, leaning out to ask what is going on, they tell you a local adventuring party has come into town and are in the local Inn. They're apprently telling stories, buying drinks and the Bard is supposed to be QUITE fetching...but upon rushing into the kitchen, you find your mothers stern gaze.

You set off, this time taking the east road and heading past a craggy hill and into rather grim looking part of the forest, but one you know to be quite quiet and that doesn't have many other passerbys due to the lack of game to hunt.

You strip off and soak yourself in the cool waters for a time. As you see the grime melt into the water, you realise your mother did have a point...

As you hop out the water, shivering from the cold, you go to collect your clothes...but they're not there! What is going on?

A human man of some stature with steel at his side, a Dwarf in priests robes, a small halfling woman and an Elf in fine garb playing a flute. As they see you, you try to cover your nakedness, but they're quick to offer you a warm blanket and offer you a spare set of clothes they had on hand. You consider just running away for a moment, but that would be rash - you have your family back home and these people have done more than enough for you. You thank them for their kindness and ask where they're going. They explain they plan to travel south to take down a bandit lord, who has declared himself a King. It sounds dreadfully exciting, if dangerous.

You wish them well on their journey and then turn to head for home. Hopefully better fortune follows you tomorrow!

You consider you options. A part of you wants to go explore that creepy forest again and find out what was going on last night. However, you know you ought to go see your father as well, and that is the safer option.

You ultimately opt to go see your father, walking up to Lord Garess' Castle, you reach the outer gate. The Castle is formidable to look upon, you're aware your Grandfather had to take shelter inside once as a boy during the Corral's Conquest of the land with his mighty Dragons. You heard the story a 100 times from him at least before he passed away.

At the gate, you smile at the gate guard Febus, a young man who was a little older than yourself growing up. He returns your smile and gives a nod of recognition, allowing you in without question. Many are passing in and out the Castle, in a time of peace like this the security here is resonablely lax. Inside you see the hustle and bustle of castle town workers going about their day, about 40 traders and workers in all. Ahead of them, the ramp up to the main Castle keep itself, a tall fortress of stone and iron, casting a protective shadow over the the town of Hawkfall itself.

You see your father, at work butchering a pig for the evening meal. You run up and embrace him, putting aside his cleaver, he smiles and gives you a hug with his strong arms. You catch up and he eventually hands you over a pouch of 5 silver pieces for your birthday money. You wonder what to do with it...?

On weighing the options, you know it's probably wiser to save this gift for the moment. You tell your father you'll put it away for now and he seems pleased by this.

You run back out from the castle and head for home. Once in your room, you tuck the money away, your family can't afford wood flooring, but you have a well disguised hole you can bury the coins in for the moment.

When you leave your room your mother gives you some food and you share a quick meal. During this, she gives you a worried look. She rather gingerly approaches the subject of marriage with you, asking if you've given it any thought. "You are 16 now and it may be time to start preparing for your own life, many of the girls your age are starting to marry and there isn't an endless supply of good men in the village...". She offers to starting asking around about finding a suitable match for a girl of your standing. As the daughter of the castle butcher, you could expect a match to someone of similar good standing.

You've not actually given it much thought until now, but your mother is right about many of the other girls starting to marry. One girl had even already had a child of her own! What do you think about this...?

>You'd appreciate your mother's help in finding a good match, her experience could be invaluable.

You pause for a moment at your mothers suggestion. Smiling, you happily accept her offer, but as she begins running through the names of he boys in town, you shake your head and stop her. You explain your ambition is a little higher than that.

She pauses, surprised. She seems to stumble trying to find her next words, but you understand all too well. She explains she admires your ambition, but doesn't 'want to set your hopes too high and have you face disappointment'. She explains men from a higher class tend to have certain expectations of their spouses, and some of things things are just out of your families reach due to the money it takes, she also tentatively notes you have a habit of spending a of time in the dirt of the farms or out hunting in the wild and making a mess of all your clothes.

She says she'll do what she can to help you, but you think she still has some doubts and may focus her efforts more on the 'realistic' prospects. Maybe you can convince her you can definately do this...

As she stares back, you see a look of recognition flicker into her eyes and her own face softens "You'll let nothing stop you, will you?" she says smiling. "Okay, we're going to do this!"

You return the expression and the pair of you embrace. Now comes the hard part however.

Your mother sits down with you and you begin planning out what steps you'll need to take. She first suggests you focus on preparing yourself before you worry about the details of who or when you're going to meet Mr. Right.

It will be hard to tempt in any well to do families with prospects of your own families standing, or your wealth, so you're going to need to steal the hearts of these prospects. Where to start though? Your mother suggests a few ideas, you can work through all of these, but you need to start somewhere.

>Clothes - yours are actually of good quality now, but hardly the fashion of a fine lady. Maybe you could find something finer and more feminine?
>Make up - The ladies at the castle wear dyes and powder on their faces to make themselves look nicer. Seems an odd habit, but may be something to look into.
>Hair - you like your hair, but you admittedly haven't had it cut since you were much younger and it's a little messy.
>Charm - This one will be tricky, weeks out in the woods or tilling fields doesn't help with your social skills much. You could do with practice talking to boys your age as a woman rather than a friend.
>Body - Your mother always said you had a bad habit for carrying yourself inelegantly. True enough, you're used to staying low and trying NOT to be seen normally. You need to draw eyes with just the way you move like the fancy girls at the Castle.

You consider everything, and decide the first thing to do is work on your people skills. Afterall, it would all be for nought if you look the part but find yourself unable to speak when in front of a suitable match!

Your mother talks you through some advice from bits she's learned or heard from other women in the town. For the next week you practice conversations in your head to yourself as you carry out your chores, over and over. You're probably over thinking it.

As it happens, the Summar solstice is coming up, and the town always has a big celebration for this with a celebratory dance in the evening by a large bonfire for the adults. This could be a great chance to speak to one of the boys in town over a drink, maybe even get him to invite you to dance. You don't have much to help you yet, no fancy clothes, makeup or nice hair, but the setting should help you along, and your mothers guide is aiding you as well.

The night comes and you go along, nervously approaching the large crowd. Tracking that boar last month was less stressful than this! When you look around, all the commonfolk of the town are here (the nobles don't join in the solstice celebration). You see one boy who seems to be on his own, Ivan. He's fairly broad shouldered and has somewhat bulbous features, not ugly, but not what anyone would call attractive either. But you're only practicing here anyway...

You approach him and strike up a conversation. You try guide the conversation as you ran through in your head so many times, trying to make the effort seem natural...

As you get going, you actually find it isn't that difficult and before long, you're both sharing old stories from when you were younger. You've forgotten all about your anxiety!

You weave some subtle compliments when speaking to Ivan, which seems to boost his own confidence and enraptures his attentions on you. You don't have too many shared interests, but you're able to steer the conversation away from awkward pauses. A few cups of ale later, he moves towards the dance and holds out his hand in invitation - success!

You see him lean towards you rather clumsily, and you quickly side step and see an opening. You bounce up on your tip toes and plant a quick kiss on the drunken boys cheek. As he regains his footing, he seems to have forgotten his failed attempt to kiss you, and just rubs his cheek with a big smile on his face.
You smile and coyly say you'll see him again some other time, before whirling around to leave, full of a new sense of confidence.

Thankfully, it seems like you handled that well, and didn't make an enemy of Ivan - he actually seems all the more taken by you. Maybe you'll tease him more another day, maybe not. That may be the alchohol talking as well...

You head home and sleep, missing much of the next morning. What will you try address next?

Filled with a new sense of social confidence, you consider what to do next. You talk about how to hold yourself with your mother, and she explains about posture and tries to show you how to walk more elegantly, rather than just stomping your feet around like one of the boys. She's hardly an expert herself at this, but she's earnest and has seen enough of the ladies at the Castle to do an immitation. You practice together for many evenings.

At some point over the following weeks, you're outside sweeping up outside your home when you see Ivan again, speaking to another boy nearby. You think he got too drunk that night at the celebration, as he while he seems to be following you around a bit like a lost puppy, he doesn't seem to recall many details of what happened at the end of the evening. You've mostly tried to politely avoid him for now but you can't resist this opprotunity to tease him and try out what you've been practicing and see if you can catch his eye.

You try to slowly position yourself correcly and close your eyes and breathe. You try to draw on a source of inspiration to help you...

As you approach Ivan as you sweep up, you envision yourself moving like a sensual dancer, rythmic and controlled in your movements. You walk by him, swaying your hips ever so slightly, and hold yourself as you were instructed, your mother's guidance aiding you. You see his eyes wonder to you in the corner of your eye. It all of a sudden seems so natural, like hunting, and you go for the killing blow.

Your eyes flicker up to meet his, but only for a moment, as you flick back your hair and carry on. A second later, you hear a loud crash, and you turn quickly to find Ivan collapsed in a heap on the floor, having not been paying attention and tripped over a nearby horse post. He looks up, face covered in mud, and smiles, trying to salvage SOME dignity.

Once you've checked he's okay, and you're on your own again, you can't help but smile to yourself. You're starting to think you're a natural at this!

Time passes and you think about what you'll need to tackle next. You find yourself playing with your hair more than you used to since that little incident with Ivan, which continues to bring a smile to your face. However, you have noticed it's somewhat tattered state. Your hair is thick and stong otherwise, one of your best features you think. But it's time for a change if you're going to get the attentions of good man.

The question is, what should you have done with it? You've seen many of the highborn ladies have their hair braided, and you do have the length and volume to imitate this style. You also do like your long hair. But perhaps you could cut it short instead, like that trader from the western lands you saw last year. It may help you stand out a bit, and would also be more practical if you ever do go hunting again. You also remember an adventuer once came into town and had their hair tied up like a horses tail, that may provide a little bit of both benefits for you...lots to consider though...

You ponder what to do with your hair, but settle on an elegant braid, like you've seen the ladies in the Castle wear. Your mother is thrilled to help you with this, trimming your split ends and dead hairs and then helping to fold and braid your hair up. She seems thrilled that you're embrassing a more feminine side of yourself!

It looks wonderful, and actually might not be all that impractical afterall. You look much more adult now. Your mother explains you're making amazing progress and that she wants you to be ready for the Festival of Shelyn's Spring once the winter is over. The festival brings everyone to the celebration, and many travellers, merchants and good prospects will be there for you, it's not a chance to be missed!

Time continues and winter is here once again. The winter markets could be a great place to look around for some of those things you'll need. However, your uncle arrives at your house one morning, out of breath, but an excited look on his face. He says that a white stag was spotted out near the mountains, a beast said to be a blessing from Erastil himself! Such a prize would be a very rare opprotunity and he wants you to come along with him.
You're excited and nearly fly out of your chair, but then remember such hunts take weeks and you may miss an opportunity at the markets if you're away in the mountains and may not have time to get everything before next summer.

You push aside your concerns from your mind, you can surely find time later for your festival preperation, but an opprotunity like this doesn't present itself to many and something in you cries out, telling you to go. You were blessed your name under Erestil afterall!

Against your mothers protests and concern about the danger of the mountains in winter, you grab your things and give your uncle a nod. He leaves with you, apologising to your mother profusely, but he still gets you a spare cloak for warmth, and the pair of you set out down the main road of the town before long.

Now it's just the two of you, your Uncle explains the beast was sighted by a trader coming into town for the markets as he travelled up from the South, and was telling the tale to all in town. That may not have been much on it's own, but your uncle is a member of a brotherhood of rangers, and they say the portents all show Erestil's favour. He doesn't think this is some merchant's tall tail. It won't be long before others read the signs as well though, hunters from all over will be drawn in.

Your uncle talks through the dangers of travelling in winter, moreso with you heading to the mountains. You shouldn't need to be climbing anyting too steep or dangerous, but ice can make even a small incline life threatening to even a seasoned ranger. It's also early in the season, so predators will be trying to get whatever food they can before they hibernate and so may be bolder than normal.

This is sounding like a daunting business.

Already just a few hours outside of town and the cold is much worse.

Your uncle eventually stops you and points out there are two you can proceed from here. There is a longer road that eventually leads through a forest, which will get you to the right area, but it's a bit of a round-about way of getting there. He says the other option is to cut across a smaller craggy hill east of your location, but he doesn't want to push you if you don't think you're ready for that - white stag or no.

The pair of you prepare to climb. Your uncle prepares a long hemp rope which he attaches to a metal hook, then hurls it up the nearby cliff, tying the other end around his waist. He gives you a similar item, and you hurl up the hook with ease [STR success]. He then turns and begins to scale the wall, finding handholds with ease.

You follow behind. You're about halfway up, when a rock you rested your foot on turns out to be a clump of ice, and breaks off under your weight and you fall! Thankfully, the rope keeps you from hurtling to the ground, but you still swing and nearly bash into a outcropping, but are quick enough to grab a branch to break the momentum! [Dex Success].

As you're catching your breath, you look around the rocky out cropping and see an old bird's nest. It seems the residents have long gone, but a glint of light catches your eye and you reach across to investigate. You reveal a small black gemstone, pretty! The bird must have stole it some time ago, so you may as well keep it! [Perception (Wisdom) passed].

You finish climbling up, where your uncle helps pull you up the last leg of the climb. You laugh together about the near miss, and he pats you on the back. You're grateful for his experience at a time like this.

A few days pass, the two of you catch up as you march, and you share some stories of your recent escapades trying to prepare yourself for a good match. He isn't the most talkative himself, but he always listens to you with a smile. Each night he'd lay some snares to catch a rabbit or two for you to eat.
One morning, the two of you are walking and you suddenly see your uncle fall over. Panicing, rush over to check he's okay, and you find him cursing. His foot has slipped on some dark ice and twisted. Grumbling and using language you know your mother wouldn't approve of, he explains he'll be fine, but tells you you'll need to get the food for the next couple of days while he rests his leg.

You set off once you've gotten your uncle comfortable at your camp. After considering what you could do, you opt to put out some snares for rabbits as your uncle has been doing. >Oof. I'll have to take the first roll there.

After hours by the steam, you grow frustrated as the fish seem to just glide through it like water. Worse, when you go to investigate your snares, you only find one small rabbit, who kicks out of the snare as you try to pin it. How are you making such amatuer mistakes?!

You return to your uncle with little other than some foraged berries. His demeaner seems grimmer than usual and he reminds you sternly that mistakes on a trip like this can be life threatening. It was probably just the hunger making him angry, but you hate letting him down like this. You sit in silence as you eat, the shame twisting your gut as much as the hunger.

Before long you're both moving again within a day or two and continue through the craggy hills, albeit somewhat famished.

One night, as you're sitting down by the camp fire, your Uncle speaks and asks you what your opinions are about the recent troubles in the north of the Kingdom. You have to admit to him that you've not heard much other than vauge rumors of trouble. He explains to you Lord Garess' brother was found guilty of treason, facilitating smuggling of steel to the Crown's enemies. It was Lord Garess himself who led the attack on his brother's hold and brought him to justice. Afterwards, he even took in his nephew as a ward.

Your uncle asks you what you think about all that?

>"Lord Garess was wrong to turn against his family. Familial duty comes before even that to your Lord, it is a higher calling."
>"Lord Garess made the correct decision. Duty to your Lord maintains the stability of the realm for the good of all."

"And what of him taking his nephew as a ward?" he asks you.

>"That was kind of him, but the least he could do given the circumstances. The poor boy must be devestated."
>"That was foolish of him. His nephew will never forget what Lord Garess did to his father and is is easily placed to take his vengence."

I am curious qm is this quest bo1 and what does stats do?
>>
>>4553209

bo1?

Stats are just influencing the difficulty of rolls slightly, but also mainly the representation of our developing young adult's abilities, strengths and weaknesses. You guys have rolled great on all the critical stat defining rolls, bad rolls could have lowered them at a couple of points.

You ponder your uncle's queries, you're not used to being faced with questions of a philosophical or political nature. You ultimately settle on your thoughts - quite clearly Lord Garess was correct, his brother not only risked the realm, but his own family's wellbeing with his insubordinate smuggling. It was kind of Lord Garess to take his son in as a ward. Now you think on it, you remember him from a couple of years ago, he was the large boy who hit you with the snowball. Ignoring his stupid smug face, he otherwise seemed very happy. He probably couldn't be so carefree anymore given everything that's happened to him. Somehow, the thought of that makes you sad.

Your uncle acknowledges your reply, but as always he gives nothing away as to his own thoughts. Eventually, you both settle to sleep.

The next day, as you acend around the side of a small hill, you both hear the rumbling of storm clouds approaching. Your uncle looks worried as the time between each thunder clap gets smaller, and he tells you to watch for any shelter. He warns you stay away from any trees and to stay as low as you can.

Thankfully, the gods must be watching over you, as you come across a small cave in the mountain side. Your uncle gestures you follow him towards it, now that the rain is falling down on you so hard that it's deafening at any distance. As you get close, he stands close to you and warns that caves are good shelter but can be dangerous, so that we should not advance heedlessly.

>"In that case, let me lead uncle, I'm more agile."
>"In that case, you should lead, you're more experienced."

You consider letting him lead, but you feel brave in the moment, and looking at the slight limp in your old uncle's legs, you opt to take the lead, knowing you have the advantage of youth. The pair of you hurry inside as the thunder rolls closer by the moment. You encourage him to hang back, while you go lead further in to explore your shelter.

Inside, there is only what little light there is poaring into the entrance from outside, other than the occasional flash of lightning. The cave seens to stretch back some ways, and you venture forward. There is a horrid stink, and it puts you on edge. As you walk through the dark passage, the faint amount of light from outside dims, and you can only feel your way forward with your feet. Something litters the floor, cracking under your feet with each step. You're unsure what it is, but you're afraid to speak out loud.

You expect the sound of the thunder to dim as you got deeper inside, but the low rumbling noise seems to almost get louder...that is, until it's too late.

In your lack of experience, you fail to realise that sound isn't the thunder from outside, but the gutteral rumblings of a great, heaving beast. You only make it's outline faintly as the lightning flashes, but you recognise it's rising shape and feel terror grip you - you've stumbled into a brown bear's cave.

The beasts low rumbling breathing erupts into a deafening roar, and it lunges at you!

>Dex Save - D100 Roll to try dodge out the way of it's claws! 50 or above to succeed, 20 or below and you'll face a critical failure.

Thankfully, you're fast to react and quick on your feet. Overcoming your initial terror, you leap back, as you feel the force of the bears claw sweep the air where you stood just a moment ago.

The situation is bad, as the the cave grows dark again with the fading thunderclap, you're at an even greater disadvantage. Without a close quarters weapon, you can't fight the beast here and the bear will be able to smell you, dark or no.

You turn and run, trying your best to recall each step you took on the way in, thankfully finding your feat. You scream out to your uncle, telling him to run, warning him of the roaring danger behind you. You make out his silhouette at the cave entrance, but he isn't running. His bow is out and an arrow nocked
"RUN CHILD, GET OUT OF HERE NOW!" he cries out, loosing the arrow, sailing over your head and a moment later, you hear and angered grunt from the bear.

Your uncle grabs you and near enough hurls you out of the cave when you're within reach, ordering you to run and not look back. As you regain your footing and turn back, you see him blocking the entrance of the cave, arms and leds spread wide and trying to appear as large as he can, while screaming at the charging bear!

Your body's instict tells you to follow your uncle's advice and just run. Your head tells you to. But your heart won't allow it, you can't just leave him to die.

Rising up to your feet, you only have a moment to make your move, as you see the bear's form emerge roaring out of the cave mouth. It's raining and there isn't any flame, the ground around you is muddy and slippery. A bolt of lightning flashes, not far from your location now.

There isn't a moment to waste. Your bow is your best weapon to hand, and you let loose an arrow on pure burning instinct, trusting your years of practice to make it sail true.

A bolt of lightning explodes into the ground only a few hundred feet away from you and the the sky alights in a flash.

The arrow flies true despite the odds, and sinks deep into the bear's eye. The creature roars, blinded and flailing around in pain. It's enough to give your uncle a moment and he leaps back, avoiding an otherwise leathal looking swipe of the creature's claw to the head, but still striking his shoulder, sending him reeling backwards by the force of it, and crashing him into a nearby rocky outcropping. He slumps over, stunned and bleeding, but alive.

The bear will recover shortly, it still has one good eye and will now be consumed with fury once it moves past the initial shock. You need to make a decision quickly if you're going to get save your uncle.
>We need to run. Grab your uncle and try scramble up the rocky cliff face.

You assess your surroundings and decide there is nothing for it now, you have to bring the beast down. The only thing that matters is saving your uncle right now.

You loose another arrow, crying out a defiant roar back at the bear to draw it's attention. The lands, going into the thick hide of the beast, but not slowing it much.

Another deafening boom and a flash of light nearby from the lightning, you can almost feel it's steady approach as the gap between them shrinks each time. The bear turns to face you now with it's remaining eye, bloodshot and filled with wroth. The creature roars and charges you, as you loose another arrow, piercing the creatures shoulder to little effect, before the mass of fur and claw is upon you!

You try to dodge, but the bear's mighty claw still strikes you and you and knocked prone near the cliffside. Your head spins and body sears in pain. You see a crimson liquid leaking into the dirt around you, mixing with the rain. Is that your blood?
You don't get a second longer to ponder this as you feel the creature's jaws lock down onto your leg, causing you to cry out in pain. You force yourself to act, and with you free leg, slam the arrow in it's shounder deeper inside the beast. It roars in pain and legs go, stumbling back in retreat. You've given yourself a moment to stand on your good leg and consider your next step, but you're in a dangerous position now, only a sharp fall behind you and you're too injured to run with any speed.

You only have a moment to think up a plan, but it's enough.

The great beast turns to face you, heaving with laboured breath now. You step back and feel out the edge of the cliff with your foot...yes...that might just do. You stand firm at the cliffs edge, throwing your bow into a nearby bush, and and ready yourself to move as quickly as you can.

The beast finds it confidence again and charges you, just as you hoped it might. But rather than turn and run, you hold your ground a second longer than your fear wants you to....hold...hold...

Then in a flash, you leap towards the direction of the creature's blindspot, where you had blinded it with your arrow. Confused, but overcommited to it's rampaging charge, the bear tries to turn it's enourmous bulk toward you, but it's own weight was now dragging it too far towards the cliff, and turned to it's side, less able to grip the rocky cliff. It's anger turns to fear as gravity drags the bear down off the cliff. The sound of it's giant mass slamming into the rocks of the cliff face as it helplessly rolls down can only faintly be heard over the rain and thunder.

Somehow...you've survived and won the battle with the great beast. You feel the wound near your neck, but it's thankfully quite a shallow cut, and should heal of it's own accord quickly. But you have little time to celebrate your victory, as you remember you need to check on your uncle.

You find him slumped against a jutted rock outcropping where the bear had slammed him into it. His shoulder his bleeding badly, but worse is the wound on the back of his head, worse your own wound but thankfully he's alive and breathing, albiet laboured. You try to speak to him, but he seems to be unconscious.

You drag your uncle into the now assumingly empty cave for shelter, and try to examine his wounds closer. You're no medical expert, but you understand some basics, learning different things from your father, mother and uncle. You're going to need to something to bandage this up to maintain the pressure on the wound, but will also need a mix of certain plants to make a poultice. You remember your uncle taught you about animal wounds becoming infected.

You take some of your uncle's cloak and tear strips off of it to make an improvised bandage for his shoulder and head, then try to rest him comfortably.

>I should first finish exploring this cave before I leave, I need to know he's safe here if I'm going to leave him alone.
>Nothing else is going to be in a bear cave, I'd be wasting time. I need to go for the poultice ingrediants now.
