Welcome to Joffrey Baratheon SI, where the MC is self-inserted into the body of Joffrey Baratheon from the Song of Ice and Fire. One of the most unlikeable characters in the setting, and most likely to die. Will you be able to survive?

The car crash lasts only a minute perhaps, but to you it feels like an eternity. Time slows down to a crawl as your car is catapulted into the air, doing one small flip at a time like a glitched vehicle in that Cyberpunk game. Once, twice, thrice, you lose count of how many times you’re jerked about as if in a roller-coaster, but in excruciatingly slow motion. Being unable to do much, you can only think: what the hell could cause such an accident? Even a semi-trailer hitting your car sideways at full speed would not send you flying like a ragdoll. Was it a glitch in the universe, you think mildly amusedly, as the vehicle makes its slow descent, and your inevitable death.

Death. That word should frighten you. You are still young and healthy, with so many things left to do in this life. You were not planning on dying anytime soon, and yet as you see the ground coming closer and closer, it is the only possible outcome. You will not get that promotion, nor have the kids you hoped to have. You will not comfort your parents in their old age. All of this would just be gone. *poof* Just like that.

Perhaps it was just shock overwhelming your senses until now, but a sense of self-preservation kicks in at the thought of leaving your loved ones behind. Images of your mother and father flicker in and out of your eyesight, giving you one last push to try to save yourself. You cover your face with your hands, let your legs lie limp, and squeeze your eyes shut tightly. Although you were no believer, a small prayer escapes your lips anyway in these last moments, calling for a miracle, anything, that might save you, and you wait for the end. And wait. And wait some more.

A sudden lurch in your stomach tells you that you are still alive. What? The weight in your core continues to increase as you realize you are still falling, but straight downwards this time, not at an angle like before. What? What was happening?

You open your eyes cautiously to see that you are no longer inside your car. For that matter, you cannot even see the ground. You fumble around in blind panic as you see inky blackness all around you. The speed at which your limbs move tells you that you are no longer experiencing life in slow motion. The void around you shimmers, and you realize that you are surrounded by stars. Infinite stars, of all hues and colours. Nebulae of fantastic shapes. A star going supernova in the distance. You are in space!
>>
Huh, you thought it would be darker. You orient your body in the direction of your fall, and see a small circle. A rapidly expanding circle. As it grows bigger, the details on the surface become clearer. A majority of it is blue, the rest green, brown and white. Landmasses in an ocean world! You’re falling into a planet! And yet it is not the Earth you know. The lands are too different from the geography of the planet you call home. What the fuck was happening? Was this your brain conjuring up a dreamworld in your last moment to save you from trauma? Were you lying comatose in a hospital somewhere while your mind wandered in the dreamscape?

No matter how hard you think about it, no answers are forthcoming. So you focus back down below, wondering how you are going to survive this fall. The planet is close enough to occupy most of your vision now, and some shapes are looking familiar. A long block-like landmass stretches from the North Pole of the planet to almost to its equator. A narrow sea separates it from another rectangular continent, angled at 90 degrees. Narrow Sea! Fuck!

Praying fervently that this is not true, you examine the continent once again. Long broken arm near the bottom, islands in the right places on both coasts and a white sheet of snow occupying the northern half. Yep, it was Westeros alright, and Essos to the side. Somehow you were trapped in Martin’s fictional world of A Song of Ice and Fire. A land of dragons, ice zombies and murderous shadow babies. Whatever being that sent you here truly had no mercy.

You slap yourself harshly, hoping to wake up from this nightmare, but it causes no changes other than a painful stinging in your cheek. You’re approaching the ground quickly now, and if you didn’t have more pressing matter on your mind, you would think why you were not burning up on re-entry. You are heading towards the area you know to be Blackwater Bay now. Looking up, more and more of the planet disappears behind the horizon, and a small part of you regrets not cataloguing the yet undiscovered continents, or seeing whether the land beyond the Wall really curved into Northern Essos.

Noises from below alert you that you are extremely close now. Your speed is slowing down as you approach King’s Landing. That tells you that the year is after Aegon’s Conquest, at least. Another set of ringing noises indicate that the sound you are hearing is the tolling of the bells in the Great Sept of Baelor, atop Visensya’s Hill. It is a beautiful marble building with seven crystal towers, each of which has a tolling bell. Another landmark to help place your timeline.

You are heading down towards the Red Keep however, on Aegon’s High Hill. The monstrous fortress looks even more intimidating from the top than you remembered from watching Game of Thrones. And you seem to be heading straight for one of the spikes on top of the castle. A panic sets in as you realize that even if you manage to avoid the spike running through you, you would land splat on the ground. Was it too late to try to use your clothes as a makeshift parachute?

All your flailing around does not change your trajectory however, and you close your eyes in preparation of a second death this day. How ridiculous! Why let you live for five minutes only to kill you again? Before you can get an answer, the spike comes up to meet you.. and you pass through it harmlessly, shimmering through the walls like a ghost. How many more shenanigans were you going to go through this day?!

You come to a rest floating below the ceiling of the grand throne room of the Red Keep. The hideous Iron Throne is on one side, but your focus is on the flickering visions in the middle of the room. Two images flicker in and out of existence in the throne room. One in the middle of room, where you see the slightly blurred image of the body of an old man laid out in a funerary ritual, with two stones resting on his eyes. Jon Arryn, comes a voice, from somewhere .. inside you? Your head begins to throb as the knowledge forces its way inside your head. The scene appears to be the death of Jon Arryn, meaning Robert was about to leave for Winterfell soon, setting in motion the events that will lead to the War of the Five Kings.

You only see a blurred image, however, and you have to look twice before you see who the sharp focus of the image is on. Although he does not look like his show counterpart, the blonde hair and tall but slender physique give away the subject to be Joffrey Baratheon, the little shit that would cause countless deaths with his antics. But something about him is different. He’s older than he should be, looking to be around his show age of fifteen or sixteen, instead of being twelve like in the books. He’s also trying to shrug away his mother who is fretting over him. Queen Cersei.. wow! She does not look like her actress Lena Headey at all, she’s a beauty beyond compare, and you can see why she’s called the Light of the West. You’re confused whether you are in the show universe or book universe? On the one hand, the characters do not look like the actors who portrayed them on the show. On the other, Joffrey’s age is closer to what it was in the show.

Before you can think too much on the matter, a baby’s cry draws your attention to the other flickering scene in the room, near the spiky abomination that is the Iron throne. A younger-looking Cersei presents a babe in her arms to the King, and the court at large. Robert Baratheon still looks like the handsome roguish warrior he’s depicted as in some of the art. Very tall, even by your modern standards, at six and a half feet, clean shaven, and a strong jaw. He is a maiden’s dream alright, for now.

He descends from his seat on top of the throne, and looks strangely at the bundle in Cersei’s arms. He’s already a father at this point, if you remember right, a girl in the Vale named Mya. Is he examining the features of baby Joffrey closely? Oh, that won't be good. Cersei’s face on the other hand, shows nothing but trepidation. She really should work on her poker face, you think. Even if this was Robert’s actual child, her expression might sow doubt in his mind.

After a long pause, Robert takes the child in his arms gingerly, and proclaims him as the Crown Prince Joffrey Baratheon to the whole court, which in turn breaks out into applause and shouts of well-wishes. “He looks like a warrior”, “A strong prince” cry nobles who cannot see Joffrey’s head or tail. Coming closer and looking at him yourself, you are startled when he meets your eyes with his own green ones. A strange intelligence shines behind them. Newborn babies do not have the ability to focus their eyes, you remember.

No. You step (float?) back and gaze between the two scenes. No. The only thing common between them is that the everything except Joffrey appears to be blurred, muted down, and he alone is in sharp focus. No no no no no. This is not happening! Fuck!

But instinctively you know, that you are going to be inserted in Joffrey’s body like one of those self-insert stories you read, and it was up to you how old Joffrey would be at the time. One or the other, you had to choose. The rest of the throne rooms starts dissolving into mush right before your eyes, preventing you from not making a decision. You would worry about the implications of being in a self-insert story later, right now you had to choose quickly.

You weigh the pros and cons of both options in your mind. Inserting in newborn Joffrey’s body would mean that you could shape his whole life from the beginning. Right every wrong decision he made. Try to intervene in circumstances earlier, build relationships. But the downside was that the more changes you made, the less useful your meta-knowledge would be at the time of the War of the Five Kings and the invasion of the Others. There was also the issue of trying to remember the details fifteen years later. You couldn’t possibly write them down for a few years at least, without the risk of someone like Varys discovering them. Would living as a baby damage your memories? You couldn’t say.
>>
File: You win or you die.jpg (66 KB, 564x827)

On the other hand, inserting into fifteen-year-old Joffrey’s body would mean that your meta-knowledge is more useful to you. Everything would be familiar to you, and you could reliably predict your opponent’s next actions at least for a time. You had no risk of losing memories through infanthood, and you would be intelligent enough to develop a cipher for encoding them in writing. But the downside was that by that age Joffrey had already established his reputation as an unstable petulant monster who slit open a cat’s belly to see its kittens. Your would-be opponents would have already picked sides at this point, whether it was Stannis knowing the truth of Joffrey’s (your?) parentage or Daenerys’ marriage to Khal Drogo.

Both options were risky, and you know that in the game of thrones, you win or you die. You were saved from one death in your own world only to be dropped into the body of a character most likely to die. You hadn’t even thought about the very real possibility of the original Joffrey’s mind sharing his body with you. But the dissolution of the room was almost complete now, and you had a tough decision to make. Which body did you choose?

>Newborn Joffrey: Can shape his entire life, but may lose memories in infanthood. Can build relationships and skills, but due to butterfly effect meta-knowledge will be less useful as time goes by. May lose memories as time goes by.
>15-year-old Joffrey: Significantly less opportunity to shape his life, but bad reputation already established. Meta knowledge significantly more useful, and no risk of losing them immediately, but will almost certainly be in mortal danger.

Meta Question: This is an informal poll, and I may not pick the winning option, but I want you to vote anyway to let me know which system the players prefer in terms of mechanics:
>SIFRPG-type system: The one most ASOIAF quests on /qst/ use, employing the SIFRPG rulebook, with a d6 based system
>CK-style system: The one more used in quests on sufficient Velocity, where you roll a d100 and add appropriate attribute (Martial, Diplomacy, Stewardship, etc.)

I’m unfamiliar the CK2-style system, but I want to see your preference anyway.

Also suggest what profession the MC was engaged in before he died. To see if any of his other knowledge would be useful in this setting. A history professor interested in military matters, for example will have knowledge of strategy. Any general ideas for the quest are also welcome. What would you change as Joffrey? Any specific plot point? Get proper martial training? (Cersei will not be happy)
>>
Vote is open overnight btw, might extend it further.

Self insert. Tends to be a term in fan fiction where the writer is the MC. usually in "I've reincarnated into <Character>" fics, or ones where they become a character in the world themselves and interact with canon characters.

Here, it means we're playing joffery
>>
>>4735651
Basically it means that the MC has meta knowledge of the books and the show, and knows the plot, and many specific details. He knows for example that Varys and Littlefinger are not people you should place your trust in, things like that. This is the one quest where you can use your meta knowledge.

Also if anyone could point me to some quests using the CK2 system which I could copy, that would be nice.

Alright guys I'm gonna stop you here before you go any further and get disappointed. I jumped and started a quest quickly, but I'm not seeing how I can continue this quest further. I have a lot of ideas, because I really was imagining this self-insert scenario for some months now. I have elaborate ideas in my head about starting from the beginning (with the newborn start):

1- Warn Tywin about the Greyjoy Rebellion and the sack of Lannisport in 289AC, use it get a favor from him. Hopefully he kills Euron.

2- Manipulate Robert into killing Balon or sending him to the Wall ("Father, what is the punishment for rebellion")

3- Convince Cersei and Jaime using secrets from their past (Valonqar prophecy and murder of Melara Heatherspoon for Cersei, Tysha's secret and Aerys' final words for Jaime) that we have a vision from the Gods, and unless she has a real child by Robert, he'll find out and execute us. Order Jaime to make sure Cersei doesn't kill Robert instead.

4- Be a good boy in general, attend council meetings from age 12 onwards, squire under Jaime or Ser Barristan Selmy, distribute money or food in King's Landing. Use hammer for brownie points from Robert.

5- Before Dany's wedding to Khal Drogo, cash in favor from Tywin to attack Illyrio's compound using mercenaries in Pentos. Kill Viserys and Illyrio, capture Dany, keep in secret for emergency

6- Have all of Robert's whores fed moon tea, burn the Book of Lineages to erase proof of heritage. If possible, have blond men father children on blond whores Robert's slept with to create confusion.

7- Try to prevent Jon Arryn's murder, but unlikely to succeed without proof, and can't just kill Lysa. Anyway he's going to die soon of old age.

8- Go to Winterfell but ask for going by ship to White Harbor to cut travel time, return the same way, thus keeping some part of the Royal Navy with you.

9- Be a good boy, leave a good impression on Ned, Robb, Sansa, Theon. Convince Jaime/Cersei not to have sex in the Broken Tower. No Bran crippled, no Tyrion arrested, no early start to war.

10- Talk to Mance Rayder who's disguised himself as the bard, use knowledge of Others, Dalla/Val/Wildlings to convince him to agree to a deal: women and children will be given shelter if men stay at the wall for this winter.

11- Go back south, back to helping rule the realm. Convince Cersei not to kill Robert. Without the proof, Stannis or Renly can't persuade Robert to harm us.

12- Suppose he dies in some years/is assassinated by someone, we have the West+North+Crownlands on our side. Release Theon to be Lord of Iron Islands, offer him Shield Islands+all the loot he can capture in the Reach

13- Offer Myrcella to Edmure (I know, huge age gap, but whatever) and position in small council for his army.

14-With 5 kingdoms on our side, crush Reach+Stormlands then Stannis. Send Westerland army immediately to start razing the Reach before Renly has the chance to assemble his army.

Let's fucking go
>>
>>4735755
Sounds like you wanna write a fanfic rather than run a quest. Which is fine. But player choice would throw a wrench into those plans day numero uno
>>
>>4735755
What I'm trying to say here (if it was not clear from the autistically compiled list to minmax Joffrey's position) is that I already have so much of this mapped out, that there is very little room for player input. Beyond rolling for some outcomes, I can't think of much ways to provide player agency here. Maybe they have some adjustments to the plan and some roleplaying elements, but I doubt there will be overall much straying from this optimised pre-determined path.

So if I continued this quest, the choice provided to the players will be illusory at best, since I already have a predetermined optimised path in my mind. It would be a disservice to the players to allow this to go further. This is better written as a fanfic than a quest, which I should have realized before starting this thread.

Thank you for participating, and sorry for wasting your time. I hope that I haven't burned my bridges with you. I'll be back with another quest, something with more player choice available, and where I'm not married to a plot that I want to tell.
>>
>>4735768
its cool, least it happened sooner rather than later. Maybe a wildling isekai? Since you seem to adore the setting of westeros. Or maybe a Robert's rebellion isekai where the player gets dropped at the opening days of the war
>>
>>4735772
Those do sound interesting, and I've entertained the idea of a wildling quest for some time too, but it appears my problem is that since it's a self-insert, I'm inserting myself rather than the player in the situation. Which is obviously bad for a quest. Until I can break that habit I will refrain from starting more quests.
>>
>>4735785
so don't do them as isekai quests?

if you want the players to have meta knowledge, you can make them cursed or something by a witch
>>
>>4735785
See, as a qm and writer myself I have some advice on that front. I try and detach myself from my view and thoughts while I am writing, forcing my self to adopt the view and train of thought of the view point character as I writer.

Might be able to help you get over that hurdle. Best way I can describe it is imagining the scene you're writing from the mind and thus point of view of the character you're writing for.

It'll color the interpretations and viewpoint heavily and separates the character from yourself rather easily
>>
>>4735621
>15-year-old Joffrey: Significantly less opportunity to shape his life, but bad reputation already established. Meta knowledge significantly more useful, and no risk of losing them immediately, but will almost certainly be in mortal danger.

Hail Joffrey of Houses Baratheon and really just Lannister, the First of His Name etc etc.

It's no fun without the adversity of overcoming his reputation, might as well be some random noble instead of Joffrey at that point.
>>
>>4735827
Sorry to disappoint, but I'll not be continuing this quest, unfortunately. See >>4735768

>>4735791
>I try and detach myself from my view and thoughts while I am writing, forcing my self to adopt the view and train of thought of the view point character as I writer.
Normally this works for me, but in this case the MC is a self-insert, so I based him largely on myself. Probably a bad idea, because now even when seeing from the MC's eyes, I'm still seeing from my own eyes. Self-inserts might not be for me, really.
>>
>>4735768

Meta knowledge is always whack. Not knowing if it is book or show or mix makes it a somewhat unreliable crutch.
Being a better fighter, leader and smooth operator trumps it every time

I'd say our meta knowledge is best utilized in just the general store of Westeros and Essos, butterfly effect be damned. Just kill Baelish, try to help Robert not ram the kingdoms into the ground, and be a good son to the best bad ass in the Seven Kingdoms.

you ass.
Writing a string of events is not the outline of a story.
Its worse actualy becouse you can acidentaly make the story feel stiff by forcing your script.

and 2º the first thing you write will not be your magnun opus.
When you start you write short and neat quest that go from point A to point B.
Thats why so many people flake.
They just think "Oh, i can just go with the flow."
no, you cant.
And you are trying to bite more than you can chew

It's not a string of events that must happen as much as the ideas I've come up with in past few months thinking about this. But I've grown too attached to these ideas to start a quest, where the QM must be open to taking any reasonable path the players vote for. Which is why I stopped before it could go further. As I said above, this being a self-insert is messing with my ability to view the situation from the character's perspective and not my own.

>And you are trying to bite more than you can chew
Definitely.

>>4736622
Surprisingly, Joffrey SI was the only SI in my mind without a fixed waifu. Theon SI had the Lannister cousins in Lannisport or Desmera Redwyne as potential interests. fAegon SI had Daenerys (obviously) or Arianne Martell.

FAegon clearly has anger issues and hates losing, he's going to be a stubborn ass when he gets older and realizes that delusional Dany doesn't suck his cock as soon as she arrives.

He comes off sueish because that fatso won't finish the books and show more of those issues that FAegon has. FAegon probably won't give up KL and seethe when others disagree with him.
