Last time out, Matilda left to find a home, you willingly went to detention, and you were reminded of how ugly you really are. Now you’re planning to go for lunch with the orphans but, in the midst of it, a dark truth has been revealed…

“I don’t think it’s fair and I don’t want it to happen anymore, but it’s understandable, y’know?” Grace is justifying the abuse Wilma gets for changing her name. Somehow this means you shamed your family or something.

“Yeah… It’s that stupid Orphanage’s fault for doing this to Wilma.” Mirjam agrees with Grace, like uncalled for abuse is normal.

“……………” Wilma remains silent, confused and hopeful about your indifference towards her last name change.

All of them are staring at you with the same bewildered expression on their faces, like you’re the one taking crazy pills here. It’s a culture shock all around.

How do you respond to these silly girls?

>“Really? None of you find this incredibly stupid?” That’s the most infuriating reason you’ve heard someone getting bullied for. And you got bullied a lot.
>“Well, I really don’t get it, all I know is that if someone dares to do something to Wilma, I’ll put a stop to it.” You’ll do what it takes to protect Wilma and the others too! Even if they’re acting like silly gooses.
>“Mirjam, Grace, I’m incredibly disappointed you didn’t stand up for Wilma. You’re grounded.” Demand to have the leftovers from breakfast back. They don’t deserve them!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Really, none of you find this incredibly stupid?” You find this to be one of the most infuriating reasons you’ve heard someone getting bullied for! And you were bullied because your stupid messy hair was stupid messy!

“Yeah, what is that orphanage thinking? You can’t change people’s names like that! It’s important!” Grace thinks she’s agreeing with you.

“I’m talking about the reason behind the bullying.” You think what the orphanage did is dumb, but not as dumb as bullying people for their names.

“I mean, bullying is never good, regardless of reason.” Mirjam thinks she agrees with you too. These girls are missing the point.

“The reason. To Bully Wilma. The reason to bully Wilma. The reason they are bullying Wilma. That is what I find stupid.” You gesticulate with both hands and explain it like if you were helping Scarlet study again.

“D-Didn’t you listen to us? We explained it to you.” Mirjam appears discombobulated.

“Yeah. Still stupid.” You shake your head.

Oh my gosh…” Grace doesn’t know how to respond. “Regulars just don’t care, do they?”

“I mean, once you become an adult, you can always change your name back.” You’re still trying to grasp this concept.

“Can you…? I thought you can only change your last name if you were adopted, and it’s your parents’ call.” Mirjam isn’t sure.

“Off-topic, but I always wanted to visit the world overseas, Phil.” Grace thinks you’re a foreigner.

“Point still stands.” You don’t have time to think about overseas trips here. You’re busy with your time travelling trip!

“But the betrayal is done, and even if you do, better hope nobody remembers that you did!” Grace doesn’t think it’s a solution.

“Can you even continue being part of your family’s legacy after that? They won’t be happy on the other side…” Mirjam gets shivers just thinking about it. “You have to be always proud of where you come from, never neglect your origins and help the community around you. So we can grow together.”

“I’m still open about living overseas.” Grace wiggles her eyebrows. Did she learn that from you?

“Grace, this is serious.” Mirjam looks down, a little frustrated.

“He’s obviously joking, Mirjam. Phil has a great sense of humor, remember?” Grace doesn’t want to think about this anymore.

“He’s not…” Wilma hugs you from behind… She finds comfort on your back.

“It’s fine.” You tell Grace and Mirjam, who look relieved. “You’re wrong.” Now both look anxious. “But it’s fine.” Now they look like they don’t know how to feel anymore. “Though, I won’t let anyone do anything to Wilma anymore.” You’ll allow those two to be silly, you’ll have to show them through example. You spin Wilma to your side and pat her head, the headpatting seems to be healing her soul.

“Phil…” Wilma is just glad to be here.

“How are you planning to do that?” Mirjam doesn’t want you to get violent.

“The only way I know how…” By talking your differences out, or swiftly knocking them out, Spice style. You adjust your glasses to maintain your mysterious aura.

“I bet Phil has a cool spinning kick.” Grace is flailing her arms around, excited just imagining it. How silly. You should practice that.

“I don’t think kicking people around is a good idea…” Mirjam is not an aggressive person. “But if they get the message...” Or maybe she is.

“That’s the spirit!” Grace is proud of her half-sister(?). The tomato people are violent. “If you need our help, Phil. Just ask!”

“Same with Wilma.” Mirjam agrees. Look at these two, trying to redeem themselves after that.

“She’s basically our sister, she already knows that.” Grace doesn’t see the point of reminding Wilma. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to look nicer in front of Phil!”

“N-No, that’s not it… it was in case she forrrgot…” Mirjma turns red justifying herself.

“Thank you…” A little smile appears on Wilma's face. She’ll remember that.

“Just out of curiosity, why would an orphanage require a person to get rid of their last name? Is it the higher budget orphanages or is it just this one in specific?” You wonder.

“Depends on the program, I think? Chio’s scholarship didn’t force her to change her last name, since hers is state-funded, right? Is that how it works?” Grace isn’t that sure.

“Yeah, that’s what I recall. Chio mentioned to us that she had the opportunity multiple times. There are orphanages funded by wealthy entrepreneurs looking for gifted children to join their programs, with the condition of changing your last name to theirs, it facilitates them to find worthy successors for their businesses. She would’ve gotten more benefits early but decided to work hard and keep her family’s name.” Mirjam nods.

“But Wilma’s orphanage is nothing like that, right? It has money and all, but it doesn’t strike me as super fancy. I feel like it’s one of those that scouts for the sake of scouting, they are super annoying.” Grace has her doubts.

“It’s the first one they built here, so maybe they are usually like that? We don’t get this cool stuff around here often.” Mirjam just doesn’t know. It seems Chio is the one who can fill the gaps for you.

“We don’t lack anything, but we just get by…” Wilma doesn’t think it’s backed up by something big.

“Dunno about you guys, buuuuut my tummy feels empty! Let’s go to the cafeteria, I wanna eat somethin’.” Grace wants to move on. “Maybe some of those leftovers.”

Sorrrrry, I gave them to Quirina and Zhong, they arrived late and didn’t eat anything.” Mirjam apologizes profusely.

“W-When did that happen…?” Grace is dejected by the news.

“When you were looking for Phil by pretending to go to the bathroom.” Mirjam bows multiple times to apologize.

“D-Don’t tell him that!” Grace looks in shock. “We can’t go to the Home Ec. Classroom, the middle schoolers are there. We’ll have to eat cafeteria food…”

So, all the food you made is gone, at least it fed some unfortunate people, since you imagine those 2 are CotF too or else they wouldn’t talk to them…

For some reason, you want some cookies...

“We don’t if we make a deal with the middle schoolers.” You adjust your glasses. You’re a great negotiator, you once convinced Nariko to not eat dessert one day for a big cupcake! What a good girl she is.

“Oh! Phil has a plan!” Grace is already on board.

“Uhm, is it a good idea? We might waste our time and not get lunch at all.” Mirjam has her doubts.

“I prefer nothing to what the cafeteria offers…” Wilma won’t stand mute for this. She must’ve liked your food.

“If we offer to cook for everyone, I’m sure they’re not going to hate the idea.” You think it’s a good deal.

“If you’re confident.” Mirjam nods. Their traditions might be stupid, but they still believe in you. You’ll have to do your best to not disappoint them!

Since you wasted some time chatting here, you all hurry up to the second floor of the other building to the Home Economics Classroom! Outside of it, you don’t see the giant middle schooler guarding, it’s not too dissimilar to your visit with Matilda but there is a key difference, you hear hordes of kids inside making some noise. Since you didn’t come here earlier, they must be eating by now, or at least, already cooking.

“It’s closed.” Mirjam states the obvious.

“You can open it up, can’t you?” Grace attempts to make Mirjam boast about her skills.

“But why would I lockpick it?” Mirjam doesn’t see a good reason.

“What do we do, Phil?” Grace is eagerly awaiting to watch what you're planning to do.

“Let me think…” You need to come up with a good plan. You came here to negotiate, but you need to be smart about your first move.

What do you do?

“Okay, I have an idea.” You know what you’ll do. For some reason, Wilma leaves your side to watch from afar with her dear friends what you’re about to do.

Without your backpack, you courageously approach the door, and with great determination you decide to knock on it and wait. No immediate response. You turn to the girls and give them a thumbs up, with only Grace responding in kind with her own. You turn back and see the gap opening…

“Hey, whaddya want?” A weird little kid wants his answers quick.

“Huh, is Cohen inside? I need to talk to him.” You ask kindly.

“Hold on.” The ratty looking kid closes the door.

As the door closes, you turn to the girls again, and give them another thumbs up. Now all of them respond with their own, with Grace’s being the only one that wasn’t awkward. You think they are a cute bunch. You hear the door being unlocked once again.

“H-Hey there, Mr. Noon!” Cohen appears to be happy to see you despite his usual nervousness. There is a lot of noise coming out from the background. You didn’t notice before maybe thanks to being weirded out by the other kid.

“Hey Cohen, I was wondering if you guys would let me cook a meal for everyone. My friends included.” You propose as nicely as you’re able to. “Also, just call me Phil.”

“Huh? B-But why would high-schoolers want to hang out with us?” Cohen seems confused. “Wait, you cook Mr. Phil?” Guess you’re not losing the ‘Mr.’ part…

“Yeah, that’s why I want to show ya all.” You say with confidence and ignore the other question.

“You were part of the group of high schoolers that came here earlier, right?” Cohen wants to confirm this bit. You nod in response. “I-I see, you even cleaned the dishes.”

“Isn’t that normal?” You’re a little confused.

“Not really.” Cohen shakes his head. “A-Are you sure you can cook for 50+ people?”

“Yeah.” You nod. You have cooked for Nariko, Bradford, and Nina at the same time. It’s almost the same.

“Um… I’ll talk to our Prime Minister. Wait a moment, please.” Cohen closes the door.

Prime Minister…?

You turn to the girls and before you reveal your thumb in the upwards position, they all cheerfully do it first. You chuckle and do it anyway. You hear the squeak of the door opening behind you…

“He’ll agree to let you cook if you make something with potatoes.” Cohen appears once again to give you one instruction.

How do you respond?

“Sure.” You shrug. Mashed, stewed, baked, fried. You don’t care!

“Just give me a moment!” Cohen smiles as he closes the door once again.

Once again, you turn to the girls. You see them all with their back towards you. Grace turns towards you to reveal her thumbs up, then Mirjam does the same, and lastly Wilma – everything in one smooth sequence. You chuckle, almost forgetting to give them your own. Once you do, the tomatoes start giggling too. Despite the noise, you hear the door creaking open…

“Come in.” Cohen shows you the way inside. You already know what it looks like, but before you can take a step, the girls make a barrier around you like they’ve done this whole day. One by each side, one behind you, they are not holding your arms just yet though.

There is a cafeteria-like atmosphere inside with a bunch of middle schoolers, talking, eating, and having a good time. Everyone is in a nice mood, and they don’t mind your presence. They all are already eating, so you don’t actually expect to make that much food; Cohen confirms it anyway, you’re going to do food for 10 people or so, your gang, the leader, Cohen and some laggards that haven’t eaten yet.

“This is our prime minister.” Cohen points at the guy, he looks old. You saw the big guard kid around, and he looks too big to be a high schooler, but this guy just looks like a high schooler.

“…What’s up with the look on your face?” The Prime Minister notices your confusion. Kinda blunt, you’ll return the favor.

“If you’ll allow me to be blunt, you look like a high schooler.” You scratch your cheek. Mirjam and Grace share a look, worried about what your words’ consequences are.

“Because I am a high schooler.” He looks disappointed. Cohen and some kids laugh. “Name’s Gautier. Phil, was it?” The prime minister responds. Gautier? Sounds familiar…

“Yeah, that’s me.” You adjust your glasses. “This is Grace, Mirjam and Wilma. Thanks for having us here.” Grace and Mirjam wave at the man, while you have to spin a little to show Wilma behind you, she doesn’t bother to look at him – she prefers resting on your back.

“I know Wilma, she’s in my class. Barely recognized her with that hairdo.” Gautier sounds tired. Wait, is he part of the squad that bullies her? No wait, maybe not, you remember he’s the guy who helped Matilda. “And no need to be thankful, if your cooking is not up to my standards, I have a special place for you waiting alongside him.” Gautier points to the right with his chin. You look in that direction and see that kid from the bus tied up with a smile on his face.

“Berninie!” Grace exclaims in shock.

“W-What are you doing here? What happened?” Mirjam can’t believe it either.

“I wanted a sandwich and I got caught.” Berninie chuckles.

“Phil, we need to help Berninie!” Grace wants you to do something stupid.

“Yeah, we cannot leave him like that!” Mirjam wants you to be a hero too.

“Don’t mind me.” Berninie doesn’t give a damninie.

“Huuuh? You wanna make a bet?” Gautier seems interested.

“I just want some food…” Wilma doesn’t care about Berninie either. Maybe they don’t like each other.

“Up to you.” Cohen asks you directly.

How do you respond?

>“Sorry, we don’t have enough time for that, must prepare potatoes now.” You don’t care.

Gautier is somebody from either the main quest or Slightly Petty Revenge. Every single character in this quest, SPR, and the side-threads are connected to each other. A character that was only in one scene in a side thread can come up anytime anywhere, and have a hidden major connection with a main character, or something. Well it's not /qst/ is a hub of activity anyway, and it separates things into nice little chunks of story.

>>“Sure. I’ll save him. Gautier, I challenge you to a cooking duel!” Do it energetically.
He looks like he's enjoying it, so we must stop it

But its still the same story arc, there is barely anything different about them, just leave the threads be until they hit sage limit at the bare minimum, I didn't even know the quest started again until I checked the archive. We don't have as many posters, likely because of this stupidity.

You intensely stare at this ‘Berninie’ guy, he smiles like a carefree doofus, is he enjoying being tied up? What kind of sick freak would enjoy bei—

Wait a second, you know who! This Berninie guy looks like Ammirati! Bernardo Ammirati! The leader of the cult you just beat. It must be his past self, and he already looks annoying and full of himself. You start wondering how much the people around you could potentially be people you know in the present or people related to them like Chio… Too bad you can’t think about it too deeply now, you have to make potatoes.

“Sorry, we don’t have enough time for that, must prepare potatoes now.” You respond to the girls as nonchalantly as Double J would. “Wilma, I’ll need your help.”

“Yes.” Wilma is going to help you in the kitchen.

“That’s alright.” Past-Bernie doesn’t care.

“A-Are you sure you want to leave him like that…?” Mirjam didn’t expect you to not do it.

“Berninie is in trouble, Phil!” Grace looks worried.

Wilma rolls her eyes. You notice Cohen is paying special attention to Wilma in general…

“I said it’s fine.” Past-Bernie repeats. The duo of dummies don’t want to back down.

“I think you two should get a grip and realize he doesn’t want to be with any of you two.” Gautier is kind of a blunt guy. The friendly duo stare at each other in shock, then they look down, all sad. Potatoes will cheer them up again, so you just need to start cooking!

“Any preference?” You ask the Prime Minister.

“No.” Gautier is kind of a commanding guy.

“Okay…” You’ll do whatever you want.

And you did exactly that with the ingredients! You make some poutine with some beef with it. You didn’t know how much easier it is to cook with someone’s help until today, Wilma is a very skillful assistant.

You present the dish to the man in charge…

“Enjoy your meal.” You serve it without fanfare, despite the expectations of those involved.

“Let’s see…” Gautier takes a bite of the crispy fries. “Pretty damn good, you two are talented.” That was almost less tense than finding out if Nariko likes something you made or not.

Yay!!!” Grace and Mirjam celebrate together.

“I’ll serve everyone else then.” You’re mildly content that this event didn’t have any extra tomfoolery.

With Wilma’s help, together you serve a plate to everyone that you were supposed to. The people on the table start enjoying their meals in fraternity. To say it was a success would be an understatement, you expected everyone to chat while eating, but everyone is focusing on eating like their lives depend on it until half of everyone’s meals are gone…

“Aw, I feel bad for Berninie, this food is delicious and he’s just watching…” Mirjam feels guilty for enjoying the delicious food you made.

“Yeah, he should be eating with us…” Grace feels guilty too.

“…Then why don’t you share your food with him?” An uninterested Wilma wonders as she continues to gleefully enjoy the meal.

“I wouldn’t mind having a bite.” Berninie smiles.

“…Nah, it’s too late for that.” Grace turns around and continues eating without guilt.

“…I mean, he did try to steal food when he’s not supposed to.” Mirjam betrays her bus buddy as well.

“Is there a time you’re supposed to…?” You wonder as the whole table decides to ignore Berninie for the rest of the lunch time.

As you continue eating together, you learn that Gautier became the leader of this specific class because he defended them when a group of high school girl bullies tried to hijack the Home Ec. Classroom for their own selfish reasons. A situation you understand very well after the events of today, you didn’t know girl delinquents were an issue for this long, but it’s a problem modern times haven’t addressed yet.

Gautier ended up becoming like a big brother figure to the guys in the class and their de facto leader. He’s the ‘prime minister’ because Cohen kept calling him that for some reason, and since Cohen turned into his right-hand man of sorts, it stuck.

“Seriously, this is awesome, you should open your own place or something.” Gautier is a serious but chill guy despite his initial demeanor. “You could get some funding from the mayor if you talk to her.”

“Can you imagine that? Working together in a restaurant, raising a family, having each other for the rest of our lives?” Grace gets all bubbly thinking about it.

“……….” Wilma gets all red just thinking about it.

You hear the haunting bell ring, it’s time to return to classes… You see a good number of kids rushing out of the classroom, including Berninie who’s still tied up.

“We should go back to classes...” Mirjam looks disappointed.

“That’s right.” Cohen agrees. Of course these two would agree… One would call them ‘dorks’, but you’re not a soulless human being like Scarlet.

“I was promised seconds once, I want them now.” Grace doesn’t wanna go.

“Oh, you’re skipping too?” Gautier isn’t interested in learning either.

“C-Calm down, you can’t make Phil skip classes, y’know?” Mirjam chuckles nervously.

“Gautier, can you watch Wilma’s back during classes? I don’t want her to get hurt anymore.” You can’t be there for her, but he can! “I’ll have hers back after classes, or I guess she’ll have mine?” Wilma is your backpack after all. Grace and Mirjam giggle at that last bit, making Wilma blush like a tomato lamp.

“That means I’ll have to go to classes.” Gautier doesn’t look thrilled. Cohen stares at him like he should do it. “I guess I’ll take the hint and go anyway.”

“Thanks, man. I owe you one.” You’d be happy to make another potato thing if he wants to.

“Nah, you don’t owe me a thing. I can’t call myself a real man if I let a chick get hurt.” Gautier wants no compensation. If that’s the case, why did he let this happen before? You shouldn’t question it now, but the doubt will remain in your head. “First time in a while that I’m actually going. No more detention for me.” That might explain why.

“…You always get work detention because you always fall asleep during classes.” Wilma reveals, almost chuckles remembering. No, this is the true explanation you were looking for.

“I-I swear I won’t nap this time.” Gautier promises.

“…” Wilma silently nods.

“Though, you’re asking favors like this like we’re friends or somethin’.” Gautier doesn’t appreciate that.

“We aren’t?” You ate a meal together, that’s like, advanced friendship activities.

“Why are you acting all tough out of nowhere?” Grace chuckles.

“He’s kinda silly in a good way.” Mirjam chuckles too. She’s not that shy when she’s with you all, huh? She stays quiet for a second and realizes something. “Wait! I mean, no! We should move on!”

“We’ll be going! Thank you for the food, Mr. Phil and Ms. Wilma!” Cohen and the other middle-schoolers escape! Big guy carries them with ease and fast too, like a gorilla. Kinda frightening…

“C’mon, Wilma.” Gautier sighs as he stands up.

“Yeah, we need to leave too.” You stand up because you have to, not because you want to.

“C’mon, Grace!” Mirjam drags the unhappy Grace by the arm.

“B-B-B-B-But…” Grace doesn’t want to go. “Awww… I’m going, but I’m not going to be happy about it.”

“And you treat the rest of us as middle schoolers…” Mirjam shakes her head.

As you walk towards the classroom, you think it’s a good time to ask an important question…

“So, this might seem like it came out of nowhere, but does Chio have a favorite type of food?” You won’t mention the special dinner for her yet.

“Does Chio like anything in particular? She’s not a picky eater.” Mirjam doesn’t seem to know the answer.

“Wilma should know, shouldn’t she? They cooked together.” Grace throws the responsibility to the girl with the cute messy hairdo.

“…She just likes fish.” Wilma doesn’t know, and before you could ask her in depth, you had to split ways to different classrooms. Dang it, you were close to knowing! But a hint helps a lot too.

You all manage to return to class on time, it almost makes you feel like the bell rings 10 minutes earlier than when the classes start, but that’s crazy, right? As a disgruntled student you know this is a very real conspiracy and that the school is taking your free time away, like the mouth-breathing bastards they are. Anyway, you’re back in the classroom, and since Big Eyelashes isn’t here, you sit nearby Grace and Mirjam. They lend you a pen and papers for you to sleep on – err, take notes with. You’re already not enjoying this. The teacher arrives… It’s a woman, more or less the same age as present Nina, because past Nina should be like 3, right? You imagine her for a second, adorable.

“That’s Ms. Ronda, she’s our history teacher.” Mirjam whispers to inform you. So, this school’s Nina…

“All right, kids. I need you to open your books to page 102, and… Oh right, I forgot to take attendance. Fufufu…” Ms. Ronda gives you bad vibes.

You don’t have a book.

I have shit connections and Discords are cancer, what's the point of going outside the thread for thread necessary information?
>>
>>4871002
Also just drop new Op Pics in the same thread, no reason to split it up every single time you make a set of updates. We have bigger post numbers and the archives have more in them to read instead of making people think your burning out constantly with small threads with few updates.
>>
>>4871375
>>4871377
If you don't want to either follow the Twitter or the Discord there's a new thread usually every Saturday (sometimes Sunday). If you can't even bother to check the catalog too on top of all that then you're just being difficult. The thread runs for about and half a week and then we get a new thread with a new OP next week, jamming as much as possible into a single thread every time would just make things cluttered when the system we have now works perfectly fine and it's what OP is more comfortable with.

The only advantage of being here early is that you’re going to hear the roll call, maybe you can make connections with this additional information, you should focus on that! Nothing will distract you in this moment of truth, except that fly trying to escape through the wrong side of the open window…

“I got it, partner.” Philonune scares the fly to freedom through the open gap. You mentally thank your friend for doing this favor.

What were you doing?

Oh right, identifying people! It’s gonna be easy. You hear the teacher calling out names, you use your brainpower to analyze this information in real time! By writing them down. You’re going to still watch who raises their hand so you can have a face for these names.

Grace’s full name is Gracelynn Andreev. Welp, nobody you can really recognize from that, maybe if you knew everyone's second last name, but it’s not like anyone knows everyone’s full name. Like, you can’t think of a single person that has ever called you ‘Oka’…. Except in that text message. You don’t have your phone; you don’t know why you tried to look at it.

Lemuel Dawkins? Sounds vaguely familiar, but your brain can’t make the connection. Sounds unimportant, like a footnote in the hundreds of pages in your life.

Hehe, there is a guy called ‘Chester Minit’, you wish it was easier to laugh at him, but he’s an orphan, so… err..

So, it’s Mirjam Rosenberg. No wonder she doesn’t say her own name, she doesn’t want to roll those Rs, even if it’s really funny. You don’t know what you were expecting, but again, you can’t know for sure. For some reason, Mirjam and Grace remind you of people you know, it’s a very faint hunch, but it’s there.

What if you already met them before…? Maybe passing so much time with them makes you feel that way.

You wrote all the names down anyway, you can take a second look if you want to, like right now, those names are… err… for some reason you can’t read your own handwriting, well, some of the names anyway – sometimes even the blurry ones show up and sometimes they don’t. It’s weird. And it’s giving you a headache. You’ll ignore them...

You ask Grace (because she threw you a message you couldn’t read) if she knows Gautier’s last name. She reveals that she does because they met before: It’s Gautier Masterson. He once tried to go out with her, but she rejected him, and it seems he forgot he ever did that, so she didn’t bring it up. You thank her and sink in your chair, trying to tie up the connections that have made themselves known.

Wait, that’s the name of the guy who almost killed you! The one Matilda hates, but something is off… Isn’t that guy named Flint? Who is this guy and why does he have the same last name as him? You’ll have to clear that up.

Maybe you should start from the beginning, you don’t seem to recall the bus driver’s face. Now that you think about it, you can’t recall the teacher’s at the detention farm either. It’s all blurry for some reason. Is there a connection between them?

You still need to figure out if you know Cohen from somewhere, it’s weird asking anyone’s last name out of the blue, but people here are proud of their family’s bloodline, right? You think it should be easy if you give it a shot.

Officer Kobashi… You’ve never seen him in your entire life and the name doesn’t ring any bells. The only connection that you can make is that your mom used to name some RPG characters in her old games something like that. You watched her play like once or twice, but it always stuck with you because Joel always found that odd, but your mom assured him it was a name she liked, but that’s it, and to make a connection between them sounds like the biggest stretch imaginable.

Sieb Bruun, now that you think about it… He looks like Valdemar, doesn’t he? Is he… his father? Neither has eyebrows! That might be genetic, right? That would explain why Wilma doesn’t know him, she never met him!

Hubbard… Isn’t that the guy you beat up at the cult’s factory? He was one of the chancellors! Jeez, you’re glad you punched him in the future. Woah, thinking works!

Should you analyze the middle schoolers you saw? One was tall and the other a rat, but aside from that… there isn’t much to talk about, is there? Like the teacher over here, she just gives you the creeps, like one day she’s going to turn into an old creepy hotel receptionist lady in the middle of nowhere or something.

Anyway, that’s all you can do for now. Classes are over. You can’t believe you wasted hours just thinking about this crap. Hold on, all classes are over! You can leave now!

What do you do?

>Go to the gate, Matilda is waiting! Unless she’s a bad girl.

Then we can find Matilda and figure out where we're staying, and then we can go to Chio to tell her when to come for dinner.

About Wilma, she can stay over for tonight but I think that the Orphanage is going to try to get her back at some point. I don't think it's avoidable that she'll have to go back at least briefly...so I think we should try to get a camera so we can go back with her while invisible to protect her and document their abuse!

I've got all sorts of theories about what could be going on but really we just need more info. Best I've got for now is that 'props' as the Judge called them are what remain undefined.

I've been wondering how/why a Judge came by though. Why/how would they detect this ability going on? Could it be that the bubble has had some noticeable effect in the real world? Perhaps causing people to faint as their minds (or copies of their minds) are pulled in here to fill in the people we've met? Or maybe the sphere itself is expanding? I suppose the former is unlikely since the Judge wasn't super urgent in finding and ending this place, but questions and possibilities abound anyway.

The taste of freedom is palpable, you can go wherever you want! So you’ll do what you’ve done all day and look for Wilma, you need your backpack. You’re on your feet now.

“Aww, I don’t wanna go to work.” Mirjam laments. You thought it was Grace for a second.

“Tell me about it…” Grace sighs loudly as well. “I don’t wanna split up from Phil either.”

“T-That’s not what I meant.” Mirjam doesn’t want to sound desperate.

“Let’s find Wilma instead of lamenting what our immediate future holds for us.” You try to sound cheerful. Both girls nod without complaint. You give back the pen to the girls and carelessly put the papers inside your pocket, it’s time to go.

Outside the classroom, you have visits! It’s Wilma and she stands right in front of you.

“…” Wilma looks like she’s calming down. Grace and Mirjam notice Wilma looks on edge and start calming her down with some good pats on the back.

“’bout time.” Gautier looks relieved. “We had to sneak up here.”

“Did something happen?” You wonder.

“Wilma saw some random hag and started freaking out. We left classes like 20 minutes early and hid here waiting for y’all.” Gautier explains. “We had to be quiet, so I didn’t have the chance to ask what’s going on.”

“Is everything all right, Wilma?” You ask the cute messy girl.

“Yes…” Wilma nods.

“Our poor Wilma has become so skittish that an ugly lady spooks her. She’s even worse than Mirjam now.” Grace feels sad about it.

“Hey! I-I’m not like that…” Mirjam, who is like that, responds.

“…I’m sorry.” Wilma apologizes.

“D’aww, don’t be like that! I was kidding!” Grace hugs the messy girl and rubs her face on the top of Wilma’s head.

“All of you relax, nothin’ happened to her.” Gautier feels like you’re blaming him for what happened.

“Thank you for looking over her.” You say as Wilma resumes her position.

“It’s nothin’, man. Stuff’s easy.” Gautier doesn’t feel like he deserves the praise.

“Then, can you do it every day?” You raise an eyebrow.

“…You’re pulling my leg, right?” Gautier doesn’t know if he should chuckle. He looks exhausted just thinking about it.

“We should all go to work now…” Mirjam sighs.

“Wish it helped with somethin’ like my rank…” Gautier sighs too.

“I’m with you on that one...” Grace is depressed as well. “Here, Phil.” Grace hands you a piece of paper. “It’s our address and room number, if you need us for anything! We’re saving for phones, but it’s not going great.”

“Feel free to call anytime, keep in mind we’ll be free in a couple of hours though.” Mirjam wants to hang out with you too.

“Huh? Do you guys really have to go to work?” You still want to hang out.

“Yes, we do. We have to help rebuild the orphanage, and it’s our responsibility as CotF.” Mirjam reminds you why they do what they do.

“It’s been a year, Mirjam, let it go.” Grace is already planning on skipping now that you brought up the point.

“I don’t wanna go… I won’t go.” Wilma will stay with you regardless of what’s happening.

“I-I wish it was that easy, Wilma.” Mirjam chuckles nervously.

“I skip whenever I want. I work the farm the whole day, I won’t do it all night. What are they going to do? Fire me?” Gautier doesn’t give a damn.

“See? I told you, Mirjam, nothing bad is going to happen to us if we skip once or twice! The system is broken, we have to take advantage of it.” Grace feels so smug right now. “It’s better than going there, half-assedly doing the job, then being scolded for being lazy.”

“I-I don’t think Phil implied for us to skip worrrrk…” Mirjam shakes her head.

“I do want to hang out with all of you right now.” You admit. “Unless it’s an issue.”

“It isn’t! I would love to hang out with you…” Grace grabs your right arm and puts her head on your shoulder.

“Mhm…” Wilma was a given, but she agrees to hang out with you anyway.

“You get real friendly, real quick, huh? It’s not like I have anythin’ better to do.” Gautier agrees as well.

“B-B-But what about w-worrrk…?” Mirjam didn’t expect everyone to agree this easily.

“What about it? C’mon, Mirjam, don’t be so stiff, I know you want to come along too.” Grace is tempting her friend.

“F-Fine!” Mirjam has been corrupted. You have mixed feelings about this. She runs to grab your other arm and starts rubbing her head really fast on it. “I’m sick and tirrred of being yelled at! Scrrrew them! I wanna be with you!”

“…You gals are really thirsty, huh?” Gautier notices how all of them are all over you. You don’t think they’re thirsty, on the contrary, they must be freezing! It’s cold in this time period.

“…” The tomato trio all step away from you, red bright as their motif suggests, like they haven’t realized what they were doing until Gautier pointed it out. Now you feel cold… At least the prime minister got a good chuckle out of that.

It’s time to move on…

“So, let’s find Chio.” You propose before leaving. You feel Wilma resuming her place behind you after that sudden comment from her classmate.

“The teacher…?” Gautier doesn’t like the idea.

“Yeah, that one!” Grace smiles.

“She’s our friend, but I think she’s busy right now.” Mirjam doesn’t look hopeful.

“She hates my guts too.” Gautier sighs.

“Did you ask her out or something?” Grace wonders with a self-satisfied smile.

“That’s none of your business.” Gautier’s reaction betrays him. Chio is one tough cookie, no wonder he got rejected. Speaking of cookies, you should ask about that last friend of theirs.

“I wanna see her…” Wilma agrees with your idea.

The group starts walking towards the teachers’ office, despite Mirjam pointing out that this crusade will likely end on a sour note, you don’t mind just checking if she’s there or not. You thought for a second that it would be a good idea to ask about Cookie now, but you changed your mind and will wait until you find Chio. After this, you’re planning to meet up with Matilda, so you’ll have a lot of time to talk.

You open the office’s door and peek inside on your own, you told the others to stay away so you can do this quickly. There are a bunch of teachers inside, some have blurry faces, some are just so disgustingly ugly that you wish they had that filter like Hubbard. You make eye contact with Chio, who was busy doing paperwork on her desk, and wave her to come outside, she starts cleaning up her desk in response, which means she’ll come over. You close the door slowly, so none of the annoying teachers realize you are here.

After a minute, Chio steps out of the office.

“Phil, I…” A jubilant Chio realizes there is a Wilma behind you, then that everyone else is here too. She’s not as happy anymore, but looks surprised. “W-What’s everyone doing here?”

“Chio!” Grace is happy to see her dear friend.

“I hope you’re not busy.” Mirjam apologizes already.

“…” Gautier is looking away like a coward.

“It was my idea, I wanted to talk to you.” You scratch your cheek.

“Hold on.” Chio notices something that’s bothering her. “Wilma, your hair…” Chio immediately starts combing Wilma’s hair with her hands like a big sister would.

“….Uhm.” Wilma can’t stop her.

But you can!

What do you do?

>“The messy hair stays, it’s cute.” Grab Chio’s hands to stop her.
>“Do you want to hang out with us now?” Ask Chio if she wants to join.
>“So, we need to arrange dinner, I’ll need my answer then.” Be mysterious. Also, get her number if she’s busy.

“The messy hair stays, it’s cute.” You stand behind Wilma and grab Chio’s hands to make her stop messing with her friend’s hairdo. Huh, you didn’t know artists’ have such soft hands, you imagine they would be different with the kind of work they do. “I like it messy.”

After you said those words, Chio skips back and escapes your grasp! She was kinda hypnotized for a second or something until your words snapped her out of it. Wilma returns to her original position behind you.

“Thanks, friend!” San is happy about your intervention. The messy hair is saved.

“W-Who gave you permission to t-touch me?” Chio holds her hands together and looks away.

“I did what I had to do.” You regret nothing. And judging by Wilma’s reaction, you did the right thing.

“Chio, are you alright? You look like you have some kind of fever…” Mirjam gets worried as she witnesses her friend turn tomato.

“Yeah, love fever. Hehehe.” Grace is having fun at the future mother’s expense.

“Y-You’re so immature, Grace.” Chio didn’t appreciate being made fun of.

“Look who’s talking.” Gautier throws some shade.

“And you’re going to detention.” Chio glares at the delinquent politician.

“You can’t throw me there outside of school hours, I know my rights.” Gautier isn’t scared. You can’t tell if he’s smarter than he looks, or you just have low expectations knowing his romantic history.

“Then I want you working the crops first thing tomorrow morning, hahaha.” Chio is quite devilish.

“Another reason to arrive late for me.” Gautier doesn’t sweat it. You kinda like that attitude, because you hate school.

“I-It’s going to affect your rank!” Chio wants to win this one.

“I’m at the bottom, who cares?” Gautier’s apathy is too strong.

“That’s a terrible attitude. Don’t listen to him, Grace.” Chio barks at pigtails.

“W-Why are you singling me out?!” Grace is in shock.

“…Probably because Mirjam is still dragging you here every day.” Wilma stabs her childhood friend in the back.

“She doesn’t drag me, she motivates me! Learn the difference! I’m a committed girl when you get to know me, Phil.” Grace tries to get to your good side.

“…Committed to the pillow.” Wilma chose violence.

“H-Hey! I’m not taking that from you of all people, sleepyhead!” Grace pouts. “Besides, none of you know that! You don’t live with us anymore!”

“You just admitted it.” Gautier has no chill.

“What? I admitted nothing! Nothing! I see no evidence! None!” Grace is getting bullied.

“I can confirm it though.” Mirjam had this brewing for a while after being made fun of multiple times by Grace. The tomato war rages on.

“I’ll have to make sure you’re taking this seriously too.” For Chio, this is a promise.

“Nggh…” Grace hates this. “T-They are being mean to me, Phil…”

Don’t get near him.” Chio glares at Grace, making her freeze in place. “So, explain to me what you need me for.” Chio turns to you.

“Do you want to hang out with us now?” You throw the invitation.

“Hmph, why would I want to hang out with you all? Besides, as of now, I’m far too busy to do that.” Chio pretends to be important but looks away, kinda conflicted.

“She totally wants to hang out with us.” Grace smirks.

“Hehe, you don’t have to hide it, Chio.” Mirjam chuckles.

“…We want to hang out with you too.” Wilma nods.

“But if you’re busy, it’s fine! We’re glad that you want to have fun with us at least.” Mirjam smiles.

“S-Silence…” Chio gets embarrassed.

“Better for me though.” Gautier jokes.

Now you need to keep your mouth shut.” Chio despises Gautier... “Once my schedule has an opening, I’ll think about it.”

“Chio, can you come over for a sec?” You need to talk about that. You grab her shoulder and get closer but away from the others. “Can you give me your number? I need to hear your answer and make that dinner I owe you.”

“Huh? I-I mean, what an inelegant way to ask…” Chio steps back, takes a notepad from her attire, writes it down, and passes the paper to you without hiding it. “Here. Phil has my number if you want to contact me.” Chio doesn’t want to hide it from the others.

“Thanks.” You appreciate it.

“Aren’t you girls too many for just one guy?” Gautier comments.

“What? We’re just all friends here.” You don’t get where that came from.

“You’re a helpless man with a degenerate mindset, Gautier.” Chio didn’t appreciate that comment, and seems to agree with you.

“Who are you all trying to fool here…?” Gautier shakes his head.

For some reason, Wilma, Grace and Mirjam just look away in response, like they are trying to ignore the elephant in the room. But there is no elephant!

“Ehem, so, I want to ask about your other friend, Cookie.” You’ve been waiting for this! There is still one missing piece in this puzzle.

“Huh? Why do you want to know more about her? Do you want to meet her too?” Mirjam is a lil’ confused but seems happy to answer.

Waaaaait, I get it! You wanna make a reunion? Is that it?” Grace seems to have spotted your intentions.

“Guilty as charged. Since you were all split off before I got here, I thought it would be fun to see you together once again.” You admit it’s amusing. You feel Wilma vibrating in excitement.

Half of the reason you’re here is because it is an interesting experience. The other half is helping your friends, but if it wasn’t for your curiosity, you probably would’ve done something different… If you had time to think about it, you had to act fast, and you’ve learned that you have to trust your guts sometimes now that you aren’t as dumb as before. Point is, childhood friends reunion time!

“She’s in the same year as Wilma, right?” Grace wonders.

“Is she?” Gautier doesn’t know her.

“She’s in a different class.” Chio checks her clock. “She must already be at work.”

“Cookie? At work? Pffft, right!” Grace chuckles.

“D-Don’t say that…” Mirjam feels guilty about it. Probably because she failed to ‘motivate’ Cookie to go to work.

“You all have become quite irresponsible in my absence, I’m disappointed.” Chio looks at the tomato crowd in disapproval, they all hide behind you like cowards. Strong big sister energy coming from Chio.

“What is she like?” You wanna be disappointed now if she doesn’t look like a cookie.

“…she’s funny, clever and laid back.” Wilma gives you a faint smile.

“Like me! Cool and aloof.” Grace smiles.

“Lackadaisical would be more fitting.” Chio throws shade.

“What does that mean?” Grace didn’t get it.

“I don’t know.” Mirjam shrugs. Chio sighs very loudly.

“She’s calling you lazy, pigtails.” Gautier explains.

“That’s, like, uncalled for.” Grace doesn’t like that. The silence is deafening.

“Do you think we can find her?” You break the silence.

“…I know where she’s hiding.” Wilma has you covered.

“Cool!” You’re getting excited. Wilma is happy that you’re happy!

“So, Chio, you’re coming with us, right?” You’ll try to convince Chio to go with you.

“I have work to do.”

“Can you leave it for later? I can help with some of it.” You offer.

“I think we’re asking too much from Chio, Phil. Her career is too important for her.” Mirjam wants you to lower your expectations.

“Yeah, don’t bother, she’s too dull and inflexible to accept your help.” Gautier doesn’t think Chio is willing to. Chio appears angry at those remarks.

“I accept. Let’s go.” Chio is acting petty.

“Y-You sure?” You don’t want to force her.

“What? You too think I’m dull and inflexible?” Chio confronts you.

“No, I don’t, that’s why I offered.” You shrug.

“Good. I’ll be going for my stuff then.” Chio rapidly walks inside the office.

“…Chio is the same as always.” Wilma finds that comforting.

“You crazy? She’s nastier than ever.” Grace pouts.

“She has too many expectations on her, of course she’s stressed.” Mirjam justifies it.

“She’s the one playing their game.” Gautier shrugs. You wonder what he meant by that.

You feel like you’re making Matilda wait too much, but you still haven’t found Cookie…

What do you do?

“I don’t know what you mean by that, but all I’m saying is that we need to be mindful of Chio’s struggles.” Mirjam wants everyone to be nice to each other.

“Relax, y’know we’re never going to do something bad to our Chio.” Grace wants to keep the sorority between them.

“…mhm.” Wilma agrees.

“If I’m being an asshole, just call me out and I’ll stop.” Gautier doesn’t want to cause any trouble for anyone. Flint was a violent asshole, so you kinda expected Gautier to be more hot-headed than this.

“What a potty mouth you have.” Grace doesn’t like that.

“It is what it is.” Gautier sighs, like he knows he should be better. You just now realized, nobody swears around here.

“You’re our friend now, you need to start doing better. We’ll help!” Mirjam smiles. Didn’t you all skip work for this…?

“So that’s how you motivated them?” Gautier smirks.

“H-Huh? Did I do something bad…?” Mirjam gets all shy.

“Of course not, keep it up.” You try to cheer her up, girl needs confidence.

Chio comes out of the office with her purse around her arm.

“I’m ready.” Chio tidies up her hair.

“Good, shall we go?” You smile. “W-Wait.” Aren’t you taking too much time to meet up with Matilda? You should send someone to tell her what’s going on. “Gautier, I need a favor.”

“What?” Gautier seems willing to help.

“At the gate, my friend is waiting for me. Can you tell her I’m going to be late?” You ask.

“What? Why don’t you go instead?” Gautier doesn’t get it.

“I really want to meet Cookie. Oh, and her name is Sugar, she has big eyelashes, you can’t miss her.” You explain.

“S-Sugar? Fine, I’ll do it, but…” Gautier looks around. “Do I have to go alone? If you want to kick me out just say so.” He looks disappointed.

“No, why would I? You’re my pal too.” You don’t get where this is coming from.

“Nobody wants you out, Gautier.” Mirjam nods to herself.

“Yeah, you are not that bad!” Grace nods too.

“Then why don’t you go along with him?” Chio is planning to ditch her childhood friends! That’s cold.

Huh?!” Grace and Mirjam are shocked in unison.

“From what I’ve gathered, you two have spent the most time with Phil. It’s only fair.” Chio brings a sound argument.

“…You did pass time during classes together.” Wilma agrees with Chio’s logic. The tomato warfare rages on.

“T-That’s true, but…” Mirjam wants to come out with an excuse.

“Mirjam, don’t admit that!” Grace knows now that they are fighting a losing battle.

“Hey…” Gautier feels like the butt of a joke.

“You two are really excited about meeting Cookie again, huh?” You adore this friendship they all share.

“Man, are you for real?” Gautier thinks less of you for some reason. “You need to get a grip or you’ll end up with no one.”

“What?” You don’t get what he’s talking about.

“It’s fine, we’ll go with Gautier.” Grace prefers to get this done with. “I’m curious about this Sugar girl, she totally ignored us the first time we met, but now she knows we’re close with Phil.”

“Assessing the enemy, huh?” Gautier smirks.

“That’s one way to put it...” Mirjam has bad intentions. Yes, Mirjam.

“J-Just be nice to each other, please.” You don’t know why you are worried, but you’re worried. “Here, hand her this note.” You send Matilda her drawing to amuse her.

“Don’t embarrass us.” Chio wants the girls to do their best.

And so, the group splits into two: You, Wilma and Chio will find Cookie. While Gautier, Mirjam and Grace will meet up with Matilda. As you see the trio leave, an important question rises:

“Where do we go?” You are lost again.

“…Chio, please promise me you won’t ever tell anyone where we are going.” Wilma wants her old time friend to do her one favor before telling you.

No.” Chio denies, she knows something is up, something with important implications.

Wilma is fidgeting violently, she never expected that answer!
