Last time out, Past Wilma revealed her sad past to you and Chio, you stole a Cookie from a cookie factory, and completely obliterated said Cookie in a race. Now you’re going to the Main Gate to reunite with Matilda with half of the tomato army with you.

As you arrive, you see a familiar looking vehicle being parked near it! It looks like your van but it’s a Motorhome! From the driver’s seat window, Matilda peeks out.

“You’re way too late, I was waiting for you.” Matilda smirks, satisfied with what she’s showing off.

“Is that it?” You ask as you start approaching the potential new base.

“Impressed, aren’t you?” Matilda is too smug. “Hop in, we have much to discuss. Use the door by this side.”

“Is this where our dinner is going to be held or is this merely our way of transportation?” Chio seems confused at the scenery.

“I don’t know…” You shrug, making Cookie reawaken, she almost fell asleep again. A perplexed Chio walks inside through the door that magically opens once she gets closer. Wilma, bothered by the laziness of the dough sister on your back, pinches near her neck.

Gah! I’m awake! I’m awake!” Cookie complains!

“…” Wilma shakes her head, still salty about losing her spot.

Amazed by the machinery, you walk around it to see the vehicle’s bri—

What happened to the door on the right side? It’s crooked! Just like your van…

If you want an explanation, you should go inside.

What’s the plan now?

>Prepare for dinner! You need to make this Tomato Reunion as awesome as it can be.
>Go inside the Camper and ask Matilda where she got this thing… and if she has a license to drive it.
>Ask Matilda what the fuck happened to the door.
>Write In.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

You longingly stare at the crooked door with conflicted feelings in your mind, a loud sigh escapes your mouth before turning back around, Wilma and Cookie look confused by your behavior.

“P-Phil, what happened…?” Cookie wonders as she starts patting your head. Using your ancient technique on you is pointless.

“Don’t mind me, it’s nothing.” You pretend this is fine.

“…” Wilma starts rubbing your arm in support as well.

“S-Seriously girls, it’s nothing!” You didn’t want to worry them with something so silly. “Let’s get inside.”

You make your way to the other side, and see Chio standing outside of the door without moving for no reason.

“Huh, why are you here?” You question as everyone is dumbfounded by this.

“I-I just realized how rude it was for me to make my way inside on my own, so I stepped out and froze.” Chio is Nariko levels of dummy.

“What? Hahahahaha!” Cookie starts laughing to her heart’s content. “You’re still like that?! You’re such a chump!”

“S-Silence!” Chio feels embarrassed, the tomato shade is back on her cheeks. “I merely believed I was being rude and I didn't know how to rectify it!”

“You were invited in, just go inside instead of overthinking stuff!” Cookie can’t stop laughing, making Wilma laugh as well. You can’t hide your smile too…

“Chio, you—”

“I don’t want to hear it!” Chio interrupts you and storms in. You trail behind her…

Inside, the Recreational Vehicle has a nice looking interior, with couches drilled to the ground, a table for 2, a little kitchen with cabinets on the ceiling, a bed on the back that works perfectly for people to sit as well. It’s like an apartment but cramped. It’s amazing and more spacious than you thought! You think you have a bathroom too!

And more importantly, everyone is here lounging around! Matilda is at the driver’s seat still, while Grace, Mirjam and Gautier are on the couches. Everyone seems to be happy to see you four, but Grace and Mirjam were already dissolving into laughter. They must’ve seen Chio act awkward.

“Welcome.” Matilda makes it official.

“Pfffft… Oh my gosh, Chio! What happened?!” Mirjam is trying her best not to giggle as much.

“Why did you do that, you idiot?! Hehehe!” Grace is less than nice to the teacher. “S-She just opened the door, walked inside, looked at us, turned red, and stepped out! It was so fast! Hahahaha!”

“Didn’t catch that…” Gautier sighs, disappointed. Judging by his surroundings, he was busy reading a newspaper.

“…..” Chio is embarrassed and angry. “You two. Out. You’re coming with me.”

“Huh…?” Grace’s and Mirjam’s laughter dies down.

You heard me.” Chio walks by your side and steps out the camper…

“She just did it again.” Grace starts chuckling again.

OUT!” Chio is furious!

“Oh nonono, we’re going to get grrrrrounded…” Mirjam gets all nervous as both she and Grace walk by your side to leave.

…You hear some intense scolding outside. You all decide to ignore it.

“What a welcome…” Cookie feels ignored.

“…Yeah.” Wilma feels the same way. The group hasn’t seen each other in a while and this is how they react. Well, you can say it’s not a proper reunion just yet.

“Be careful with your head, I’m leaving you on one of the seats.” You warn the last tomato sister as you make your way inside to the lounging area. The camper is not big enough for you to carry someone on your back.

“No! Keep carrying me! It’s going to help tone your thighs, y’know? Good exercise and all that!” Cookie doesn’t want to leave your back. She starts bouncing on your back in a tantrum and ends up hitting her head on the ceiling. “Ouch…

“I told you to be careful…” You leave her on the couch, and start examining her messy head to see the damage. You feel Wilma returning to your back, she peeks by your side to help you check Cookie’s head – she looks fine.

“Another one bites the dust, huh?” Gautier can’t believe you. “I barely recognized you like this, girl. What happened to you? Like, look at your hair…”

“The same thing that happened to yours, Gautier, but I didn’t need a hairdresser to screw it up.” Cookie shoots back.

“That was unnecessarily hostile.” Gautier will remember that. “But your hair isn’t the only thing out of its normal shape.”

“Huh?” Cookie doesn’t understand what he meant by that.

“Hostilities aside.” Matilda is tired of their drivel. “Name’s Sugar Spice. Nice to meet you.”

“Oh, yeah, I’m, uh, uhm, everyone, like, uh, calls me Cookie.” Cookie gets embarrassed meeting someone new. You assume Cookie, Gautier and Wilma are classmates then. “Are you Phil’s girlfriend? Y-You seem pretty close.”

“No, I’m not.” Matilda waves the idea off without issue. “We’re just close friends.”

“Like from the same orphanage, I got it. Hehehe…” Cookie has plans. Evil plans.

“I’m Wilma, nice to meet you too.” Wilma sounds polite. The Spice girl is too busy staring at the other sandwich, but acknowledges the fidgeting girl with a nod.

“Sugar, can I talk to you for a moment?” You need to clarify some things in private. You assume Wilma will still hang onto you, but you don’t mind that.

“Sure.” Matilda is ready to talk. You approach her and sit on the copilot seat, so you’re face to face.

“Oh, while they’re busy. Gautier, sorry, I don’t wanna go on that date.” Cookie rejects Masterson!

“Huh? What? Oh yeah, but didn’t I ask you months ago…?” Gautier forgot for a moment.

“Whaaaat…?” Cookie is confused. Those two are talking among themselves, it seems Gautier will clarify some things to the lazy athlete.

You two decide to ignore them and not be as loud as them…

“So, where did you get this thing?” You acknowledge the elephant in the room. Matilda puts her eyes on Wilma, then back at you, like signaling that she won’t speak in front of her. “Chill, Wilma and Chio know part of our predicament.” Wilma nods with some confidence to reassure the money hungry girl. Matilda sighs, but starts talking anyway.

“I got it from my gra—, excuse me, my father’s organization. Allow me to explain from the beginning. Remember my story? The one about my father’s dojo? You told me to look more into it and I did. While you were out of commission, I travelled around the country to meet his old students, to learn more than my father let me on and beat these so-called dojo masters at their own expertise. I needed to vent my frustrations about you-know-what.” Matilda might be referring to Bradford’s fall… “I aggressively confronted them and demanded a fight. I wasn’t in my best state of mind. The couple I fought were old, out of shape and quite pathetic. But the last one… his name was Pete Basa, I found him in a coastal town in Topakasa, and during our exhibition match I injured him, I threw him over my head and he took quite the nasty fall. I felt remorse, it dawned on me what I was doing, it was the result of my inability to handle exasperation. I accompanied him to the local hospital, I was by his side while he was being checked out. We talked… and he kindly answered all my questions.” Matilda looks at the distance…

“Sorry for not being able to lend a hand back then.” You’re not going to interrupt her, but you still wonder why this tangent is necessary. But, oh well, the story is kind of cool. You think.

“That’s what I would say if he actually answered any of my questions. He made a vow with my grandfather to not reveal this information to anyone. That fat oaf.” Matilda sounds angry, in a funny way. She kinda ignored you there... “But he did tell me about the organization that my father used to work in before he reopened the dojo, and that I should look into it if I wanted to know the whole truth.”

“So, you know Jun was a hit man?” You didn’t know Matilda knows now!

“What nonsense are you talking about? If you got that from my grandfather, he tends to exaggerate his stories. He was a bodyguard, Johnny. Not a serial killer.” Matilda looks annoyed. Well, but did he work for the mafia or not!? Isn’t that kind of the same job?! You sigh mentally… “Anyway, Pete gave me the secret password of the organization that has been used since its inception, one that allows you to be identified as one of its members. He didn’t mind since the organization isn’t what it used to be in the present time. I called them over the phone and requested a place to stay.”

“Wait, we have a mafia car…?” You don’t like that. Wilma starts fidgeting out of control!
>>
>>4903037

“No, it’s one of my grandfather’s personal vehicles, it has no direct ties with the organization. I asked for it under his name, I initially asked for a place to stay, but they said this vehicle is better for where we were. And this organization isn’t the mafia.” Matilda shakes her head.

“They sound pretty shady to me…” You shrug. Matilda just glares at you. “Wait, do you have a license for this?”

“Yes, one in my pocket.” Matilda takes her driver’s license out. Yup, Sugar Spice and it has her face on it.

“…But you know how to drive, right?” You scratch the back of your head.

“Now I have a good grasp.” Matilda smirks.

“What do you mean ‘now’…?” You’re worried.

“Don’t sweat the details.” Matilda seems confident.

“Hey! I’m tired of talking with Gautier! Wilma! Phil! Sugar! Come over!” Cookie is bored…

Welp, that was a long story, what now?

How about we ask everyone where the nearest park with picnic tables is at. Then once we know that ask where the nearest grocery store is at that's on the way to the park. Then let's drive to the park and buy food on the way.

Of course before all that we need to know if our money carried over into here or not.

As an aside, if we needed more evidence that this memory-bubble is not just as simple as being a recreation of Wilma's memories then we just got it. No way Wilma knew about all this jazz Matilda just explained. Clearly whatever Wilma's ability is in the modern day it has some capacity to pull details about the world in to complete the simulation on its own. If that's the case is it unreasonable to think that it can maybe output something into the world as well?
>>
>>4903085
We'll find out when we get out. If we can get out.
>>
>>4903087
I suppose it could also just be reading Matilda's memories, and that would be more thematically consistent. I can't help but try to suss out at least the general mechanics of what's going on here.
>>
>>4903108
So far we either changed memories, and affected her own outside the bubble. It's time travel, but we don't affect anything. Its time travel, but we are the cause of her problems. Or its time travel and we may have done something.

“What a demanding girl.” Sweet Matilda has issues with Cookie’s bluntness.

“Sorry, but you know what this guy is like! You rejected him too!” Cookie is brutal. “Besides, I’m dying to know more about y’all.”

Ugh…” Gautier is being kicked while he’s down. “I don’t know why I’m just taking this...”

“I didn’t reject him because he’s lousy. I’m merely not interested in dating, even less so someone younger than me.” Matilda doesn’t sugar coat it.

“That’s good to know…” Gautier doesn’t seem that thrilled with this knowledge.

“And surprising!” Cookie didn’t see this coming.

“…Cookie, don’t be so mean to Gautier.” Wilma asks politely.

“We owe him big.” You nod. He protected Wilma and Matilda when you couldn’t! Matilda would’ve been fine, but it still counts!

“Sorry, it’s just that he, uhm, uh, stops acting natural unless I knock him down a peg… He’s cool otherwise.” Cookie shyly justifies her behavior.

“Let’s put that aside.” You don’t think anyone wants to dissect why someone’s love life isn’t working. “What do you wanna talk about, Cookie?”

“I wanna know more about you two!” Cookie points at you and Matilda. “You guys are leeches like us, right? Who were your parents? Mine were in the air force, my dad was the mechanic and my mom shot the baddies down.”

“Sorry, I’m keeping that a secret.” You adjust your glasses. Your mysterious aura must be maintained.

“Ugh, don’t tell me you’re a regular…” Unlike everyone else, Cookie doesn't seem to like them.

“I didn’t say I was.” You’re not telling.

“But you don’t deny it! Well, the Midnight Effect are too, so some of you are really cool. It’s not like it really matters either way.” Cookie just can’t hate you. “And you, plant head?” Cookie asks Matilda.

“It’s Sugar.” Matilda didn’t like it. “And I don’t think it matters. Those labels annoy me.”

“Well said.” Gautier likes that.

“Can’t imagine any of us leeches having one of these, so...” Cookie points out at the Camper as she shrugs. She assumes Sugar is a regular.

“What about yours, Gautier?” Matilda wants to keep the conversation going and gain more information.

“…….” Wilma doesn’t want to delve into this topic. Maybe she already knows.

“My parents? Regular people.” Gautier puts it simply. Perhaps too simply.

“First time I heard that.” You point out. Cookie, Grace and Mirjam were all super soldiers or something.

“Don’t tell me you’re a real leech…” Cookie is surprised.

“No, dumbass, I actually knew my parents.” Gautier shakes his head. Now this is new!

“Wait, this is the first time I heard this.” Cookie just realized Gautier lied to her at some point.

“I don’t know why, but this is the first time I ever felt like tellin’ someone.” Gautier shrugs. “Ignore me, I don’t wanna ruin the mood with a sob story. Just keep making fun of me, that’ll make you all giggle.”

“I’m interested in lending you an ear.” Matilda wants to know more.

“I already said too much. If you keep going with this, you’ll actually chase me away. Isn’t this your happy day, eh? Your friends actually reunited after so long? You said as much, didn’t you?” Gautier turns to Wilma.

“…Don’t ask me to ignore you after what you’ve done for me.” Wilma refuses to let this go this easily.

Gautier didn’t expect that and doesn’t look comfortable with where the conversation is going. You must step up.

What do you do?

Why's Wilma such a good girl. She deserves all the headpats we give her. Why is it that she's the only one among this bunch that's acting like a compassionate human being though?

I guess it's that she's had it so bad 'til we helped her that she realized how much of a difference just deciding to lend a hand to people in need makes? If we could get everyone in her group to act the same way and help each other out then I feel like we wouldn't need to worry about anything.

“Let’s leave it for later, after dinner.” You raise your voice, the girls all look back at you with mild confusion. “I know this guy is man enough to be honest with us, he just needs some time. Right?”

“Right.” Gautier calms down quite a bit.

“Are you sure? Everyone is going to be here if you decide to spill it out later, and I cannot say they are the kindest of people.” Matilda brings a good point to consider.

“Nah, Phil’s got it. I just need to get used to the idea, that’s all.” Gautier scratches the back of his head. “I can put the final nail in your party’s coffin later.” Gautier smirks at Wilma.

“…It’s our party, including yours.” Wilma wants him to have fun as well.

“I’m not dense, I know I’m not that close to all of ya.” Gautier waves his hand.

“It’s not a party, it’s a dinner.” Matilda doesn’t want the Camper to get wrecked. Since it’s so similar to your van, you feel the same way. “If that’s your concern, neither Phil nor I should attend it. And nobody is going to use my camper without my permission.”

“It was my idea though.” You scratch your cheek.

“Gautier, you’re so awkward, you act like we've never met before.” Cookie has no issues telling Gautier these kinds of things.

“I haven’t seen you in months though.” Gautier thinks his skepticism is well-founded.

“I mean, you, me and Wilma are detention buddies!” Cookie tries to give it a positive spin. “Guess you’re right, that’s a terrible place to build a friendship.”

“Worked good enough for me and Chio.” You shrug.

COOKIE! Is what Grace and Mirjam said true?!” Like clockwork, you hear the future bovine mother shout from the outside. Cookie freezes. “Come out at this instant to explain yourself!”

“What did you do…?” Matilda wonders.

“Uh, uhm, eh, nothing?” Cookie is looking for a place to escape.

COOKIE!!!” Hey, Chio sounds like Nariko! Context is different though.

“You want us to believe that?” Gautier starts chuckling.

“Well, uh, I can’t say it right now ‘cause, uh, I just need to get used to the idea?” Cookie is afraid but still jokes around. Gautier frowns.

“…You better go out or she’s going to do that.” Even Wilma is afraid. She’s always a little scared though.

“Aw shucks…” Cookie stands up, takes a deep breath, and sits down. “Nope. Too tired.”

COOOOOOKIE!!!” Chio is going to murder the last tomato if she doesn’t do something.

“Do you want me to carry you outside?” You offer.

“There is no space here.” Without hesitation, Wilma refuses to leave her spot again.

“Hey!” Cookie feels betrayed.

“You can bridal carry her out to her death.” Matilda smirks.

“N-No, t-that’s, uuh, um, y’know, fine!” Cookie escapes! She turned tomato one last time before dying. It was cute. Good-bye Cookie, you hardly knew thee.

You hear loud scolding outside again. Is this a slasher movie now…? You’ll ignore it.

“You didn’t do anything bad to be scolded like that, right, Wilma?” Matilda wonders if she should be prepared for her to leave or not.

“…!” Wilma is starting to feel paranoid.

“You have no idea, huh? Phil, why don’t you sit closer to the door?” Matilda invites you to move.

“…?!” Wilma is fidgeting faster.

“I wonder what she’s doing outside, that teach starts out loud but then all the noise dies down.” Gautier is curious.

“Why don’t you go outside to check it out?” You ask.

“I’ve experienced enough detention time for the day, thank you.” Gautier vehemently refuses.

“I don’t know about you guys, but I think we should start preparing for dinner.” You adjust your glasses, it’s time to show your culinary abilities once more. Your assistant looks ready to help once again.

“Great! I was starting to feel hungry.” Gautier likes the news. “If there's any way I can help, just tell me.”

“Do we have everything we need though?” You wonder out loud, Gautier might come in handy if you need to get some stuff from the farm.

“The refrigerator is full, and the kitchen is ready to be used.” Matilda seems proud of the fact.

“Did all the food come with the camper?” You ask because it might be expired.

“No, I bought them myself.” Matilda opens the fridge so you can bask in its glory.

“Uhm, how…?” You think Matilda might have stolen everything.

“You know how.” Matilda wiggles her eyebrows, is that one of her innuendos? She stares at Gautier then back at you to signal she can’t reveal this information in front of him.

“Ew.” You act disgusted.

“Huh?” Matilda doesn’t get your reaction.

“You beat up some old men for their money, didn’t you?” You think Matilda fought some old guy and took his stuff!

“W-What?” Matilda is appalled.

“Huh?!” Gautier looks disgusted.

“Eh?” Wilma doesn’t get why everyone is reacting like that. Stealing is bad, Wilma! She should know how bad this is!

“You have experience, don’t you?” You point out. She just revealed to you that she injured that Pete guy and that other student of her grandfather without second guessing it! So she’s not above that.

“Wait, everything makes sense now.” Gautier seems to have figured out this puzzle. “That explains why you are acting differently from last night.”

“It explains nothing.” Matilda is not amused. “Phil, you better clarify what you’re saying.”

“All I’m saying is you stole someone’s money after kicking their asses.” You somewhat understand the fuzz. Stealing is bad!

“I didn’t steal anyone’s money.” Matilda seems relieved yet still irritated about what you just said.

“Wait, that’s it?” Gautier feels like he got worked up for nothing. “Hold it, can she?”

“Of course, she’s a martial artist, and a pretty amazing one.” You compliment your master.

“Are you?” Gautier asks the martial artist.

“Yes, I am.” Matilda is too confident not to boast about it.

“Then I didn’t help you at all last night, huh?” Gautier now feels disappointed.

“Make no mistake, I’m still grateful about what you did for me.” Matilda acts cordially.

“Man, I feel like a double fool, two big misunderstandings…” Gautier sighs. “It’s good you aren’t one of those kinds of girls though.”

“…I don’t get it. What’s the misunderstanding?” Wilma is confused by all of this.

“From how Phil worded it. Y’know?” Gautier tries to clarify.

“…No, I don’t.” Wilma is too innocent!

“I’m not obligated to spell it out for ya.” Gautier refuses to talk.

“Don’t think about it, Wilma.” Matilda rolls her eyes. “Now help Phil beat his meat. I’ll assist in this task too.” She has a meat tenderizer in hand.

“…All right.” Wilma nods.

“…” You just took some beef from the fridge when Matilda said that. Now you feel dirty despite not taking your meat out of its package….

Oh god…

“What are you planning to make?” Matilda wonders as she’s going to be part of this team too.

“I don’t know, a bit of everything? Like a little banquet.” You don’t want to worry about too many details, but you know you need to make a little special plate with fish for Chio. “Which reminds me…” You open the door and shout to the tomatoes outside that if they don’t calm down, they won’t get dessert. Chio wasn’t pleased with your intervention, while the other girls started to complain about wanting to get inside without much fortune. The war rages on…

As you start preparing the food, you wonder what you should talk about during the munching…

What’s the plan?

>Ask Cookie what she did to make Chio angry.
>Ask Chio to start loosening up. She needs to have fun as well! Besides, Grace and Mirjam are scared!
>Immediately after everyone finishes eating, ask Gautier to start talking about his past.
>Just let the conversation flow naturally, you want everyone to have a good time and you’ll make sure of it.

How about almond crusted salmon, with rosemary-sage butter and a side of mushroom risotto garnished with cherry tomatoes.

I'm starting to wonder if something legit happened to Cookie. Chio said she's acting odd, she seems legitimately surprised not just ditsy that everyone tells her she's been out for months instead of a week. Maybe there's actually something here. Should we semi-lightheartedly ask her if for real she thinks the past few months have only been a week?

Yeah, you’ll just let the conversation flow naturally, you want everyone to have a good time. As for Chio’s meal, you’ll prepare almost crusted salmon, with rosemary-sage butter and a side of mushroom risotto garnished with cherry tomatoes. You know, the cherry tomatoes seem to be a good fit with these girls. You seem to have every ingredient in the fridge, you wonder how Matilda got all of this stuff, she ended up dodging the question and you don’t feel like bringing it up. Even though you praise its variety, it seems Matilda didn’t have some stuff for her own dish, so Gautier decided to sneak inside the school’s farm and retrieve what she needs. Teamwork on full display!

It wasn’t as smooth an experience sharing the kitchen with Wilma and Matilda as it was previously, the place is too damn tiny to have this many cooks. But once you got your happy feet happy moving, it worked pretty damn well. You imagine the scolding stopped at one point, but the girls didn’t get in for some reason. You think Gautier had something to do with that, like asking for them to stay out for a better surprise factor. And since he took the role of delivery boy, you send him out for them once the food is ready.

You have multiple dishes ready, one made by Matilda, one made by you in your lonesome, and another two that Wilma helped you with. You’ll ask the other 80% of the tomato population to help you clean up as a way of thanks. The immigration policy has made its effect, as you see the returning war veterans making their way in the Camper. But they behave differently than you were expecting.

“Wilma…” A hesitant Grace is the first to make her way in, by her side, Mirjam gets closer too.

“Wilma…” Mirjam is acting just like her orphanage sister. But now you realize it’s not hesitation, they are emotional. Both get closer to your backpack and take her off of you, holding her in the air as she moves like a turtle being lifted up from the ground.

“Huh?! Uh?!” Wilma doesn’t get what’s going on and starts panicking.

“Why didn’t you tell me anything?!” Cookie appears from below all of them and she helps hold the confused Wilma in the air too. Wilma is afraid of crashing into the ceiling, but her sisters are being careful enough.

“What’s going on…?” Gautier is confused.

“Care to fill us in?” Matilda wants more information as well and asks Chio, who’s the last one to get in. Matilda looks a little bothered that her food is being ignored.

“I told them.” Chio reveals to you since you’re probably the only one who’s going to get it as she keeps staring at them being stupid. Your favorite type of stupid. “I told them what happened to Wilma. I pretended to be mad at them to have some privacy, but I just let them know.”

“Then stop being a silly goose and join them.” You smile. You don’t think Chio was pretending at first though… Or at all.

“S-Silly goose?” Chio didn’t like that term. You want her to embrace her sisters to make this tomato reunion a reality. “Very well…” She sneaks under Wilma to hold her afloat with Cookie, Mirjam and Grace.

After they are together, Wilma is gently brought back down to the ground to be hugged by all of her longtime friends in an emotional scene…

“I’m sorrrrrry! You’ve gone through so much! We’re the worrrrrst!” Mirjam is the first one to shed tears. “W-We thought it was only the school stuff, but! BUT…! Nyggh….” Mirjam is unintelligible right now.

“W-We’re idiots! W-We thought we all had it bad! But we didn’t know how bad you had it! Like, it’s so bad, ours wasn’t that bad bad! I don’t know what I’m saying! Wilma, please forgive us! Please!” Grace is a mess too!

“Why didn’t you tell me?! You’re a chump! An idiot! A big dolt! Wilma, why?! Why?!” Cookie is furious unlike the other two. “Why couldn't I realize sooner…?!” Even Cookie is crying now.

“You scatterbrain…” Chio just hugs her without saying much.

“………..” Wilma’s tears aren’t forming a bubble, but a smile on her face. Her family is there for her! No matter how weird it is… Just remember, mysterious cool guys don’t shed tears. Good thing you are not cool.

The Tomato Reunion has been completed to its fullest! Here they are, Together Again!

“Is it about…?” Matilda knows about the orphanage, not to its fullest extent, but enough to know it’s some screwed up stuff.

“Yeah. They know what she went through.” You nod as you wipe a tear that’s coming out of your eyes. You’re getting emotional at your old age.

“I guess I won’t get an explanation, huh?” Gautier smiles as he shakes his head. “Like I care for one. I’m glad they are happy.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll give you one after we hear yours.” You smirk.

“You’re one of those guys who don’t let up, huh?” Gautier starts chuckling just to hide the true feelings he’s having. Maybe he was closer to them than what you originally thought. “Food is going to get cold though.”

“Keep the tears for Phil's food, and let’s get to eating.” Matilda claps to make the girls stop being as emotional.

“Hey, I seasoned my food correctly.” That’s a jab you weren’t expecting or deserve.

The emotional group wants to retort Matilda in kind, probably to insult her, but they are a mess of emotions and can’t come up with anything to say. Not even Chio can say a thing. Not like Wilma cares, she’s just joyful.

The tomato pyramid formation splits, and they all get seats around the Camper. You don’t have a big table to share the food with, but you can sit in a circle and pass the plates around. If you want extra, you’ll have to get to the kitchen.

Whatever awkwardness that could happen after such an emotional scene didn’t have a chance to rise up, as the magnificent taste of the food served is too great to not be acknowledged! After your cooking group gets its deserved praise. You had a little mundane talk about the food and what it is made of, as you tried to make the dinner as enjoyable for everyone, but then… you knew it was time to strike!

What do you do?

>“Hey Wilma, can you help me out with the dessert? I’m planning on making some pudding.” Wiggle those eyebrows and make the star of the party know what you have in mind!
>“Mirjam, you’re liking the food, rrrright? Don’t be shy to admit it.” Tease the girrrl who succumbed to temptation earlier.
>“This time I have a lot of seconds for you, Grace! So get ready!” Time for pigtails to get what she has been waiting for all day!
>“Calm down, Cookie! This is not going to be your last meal, cutey!” This is Cookie’s first time eating your food, and she’s not letting her chance slip! She’s almost Neko-like.
>“I see you’re enjoying my crusted salmon a lot, Chio. Anything to say?” You didn’t mention you were the sole mastermind behind it! Time for her to acknowledge you!
>“I thought you were a better cook, Sugar. Why are you only touching my food?” Raise an eyebrow and point that out to Matilda!
>“Sorry, no potatoes this time, Gautier.” Apologize for not doing another meal for him.

“I see you’re enjoying my crusted salmon a lot, Chio. Anything to say?” You raise an eyebrow to display confidence.

“You made it?” Chio got startled for a quick second, but got her composure back just as fast. “Hmph, it’s quite… decent. A little unrefined if I have to rate it.” If her daughter could hear her, she would be furious. But oh man, that’s disappointing…

“Don’t be like that, Chio...” Mirjam believes the artist should be grateful. “Everyone put in a lot of effort into making this for us.”

“Effort alone isn’t enough. You’ll understand what I’m saying once you give it a bite.” Chio is acting condescending.

“Then let me try some! I’ve been waiting to get my hands into it!” A bubbly Grace has been waiting for this moment!

“Where are your manners? Empty your plate first if you want seconds.” Chio isn’t going to share that easily. You thought these girls never got extra meals after how they reacted during lunch.

“Is that a thing…?” Grace looks at Mirjam to make sure Chio isn’t making up this formality, too bad Mirjam nervously shrugs in response as she has no idea either. Chio has successfully defended her resources.

“Yes, it is. During my absence, I was trained in proper etiquette and I shall teach you all!” Chio boasts. “This knowledge will grant you more integrity, and it will surely open doors for you in professional environments.”

“Who cares about the way I eat…?” Gautier doesn’t get it at all. He’s fancying Matilda’s food…

“People won’t employ you if you keep that attitude, Gautier. Take this seriously, you don’t want to regret this later.” Chio has disdain for Gautier. “Takes a while, but once you get used to it, it’s not that cumbersome.”

“If you eat fancy food all the time, you could spare us some, rrrright?” Mirjam approaches to take a bite of Chio’s food. The teacher pulls it away.

“Watch how much you’re eating, Mirjam. You just confessed to me how much you’ve indulged yourself today.” Chio is not letting anyone eat a piece and you made that for everyone! With her in mind, but for everyone nonetheless! Mirjam turns tomato from the embarrassment of being called out.

“You should listen to her. I’ve seen the effects of Phil’s food on other people and they are… less than pleasant.” Matilda throws you under the bus, er, camper. “I can hardly say it’s all his fault though.” At least she’s fair…

“More importantly, any praises I can give this meal are a result of Wilma’s assistance. Those touches are sublime, I’m very pleased you remember my teachings.” Chio commends Wilma’s ability just to praise herself.

“…I did not help Phil with the crusted salmon.” Wilma refuses to be praised.

“Uh…?” Chio didn’t expect that.

“Before you ask. I didn’t help either.” Matilda preemptively says.

“It’s all me.” You’re the sole mastermind behind it. “I suppose my food was worthy of praise after what you just said.”

“H-Hahaha, don’t be mistaken, I was praising this plate merely to not discourage Wilma’s efforts. N-Now I can be honest!” Chio is way too prideful for her own good.

“…You were all smiles while you were eating it.” Wilma points out.

“I-I said it is decent, not foul. And you’re exaggerating.” Chio looks away.

“Then you should taste it again, in front of us, to confirm.” Matilda smirks. Sometimes you forget she has a sadistic side.

“I-I already gave my judgment!” Chio refuses to take another bite even if she’s hoarding the meal.

“But where are your manners? You need to empty your plate, riiiight?” Grace won’t let this opportunity slide.

“We know you keep an eye on your diet, so you aren’t full. So what’s the hold up?” Mirjam joins Grace’s efforts.

“Don’t weasel your way out of this one, teach. Where is your integrity?” Gautier has been waiting for this as well.

“I made it thinking about you, y’know?” You confess. “Please give it another shot.”

“Tch, fi-fine…” Chio relents and grabs her fork.

Chio puts the fork inside her mouth, and if there is a moment where you could justifiably confuse Chio with Nariko, it is this one. She loved it. Everyone has a hearty laugh of different degrees upon seeing her reaction, transforming Chio into the reddest of tomatoes. Grace, Mirjam and Gautier were merciless. You and Wilma tried not to be too effusive. And Matilda had a vicious smirk on her face as she chuckled.

“So, did you like it, hmmmm?” Grace isn’t satisfied yet, even though the salmon was shared around at last.

“Yes…” Chio is hiding her mouth with her arm as she looks away.

“It wasn’t that hard to admit, was it?” Mirjam the hypocrite says.

“No…” Chio is a dummy.

“I’m glad you loved it!” You smile from ear to ear. Chio got more flustered. Cute. “There are more dishes than that one though, and—…where is the food?”

Everything is gone! You mean, everyone ate some from each meal, so it isn’t like the plates were full, but they are empty now! And if living with the girls taught you something, it's that you make more than necessary…

“…Cookie ate it all.” Wilma throws her sister under the camper too! You have company!

“Wilma, Phil, Sugar… Thank you.” Cookie is in tears! She never ate something this delicious before. “This is heaven, I will never forget it. Let’s be friends forever.”

“You’re welcome.” Matilda is really glad she has a happy customer.

“Aw man!” Grace frowns. She’ll never get actual seconds.

“C-Calm down, she wasn’t part of the lunch, rrrremember?” Mirjam calms down pigtails. Seems to have worked.

Welp, if everyone is willing to have a little more…

“Hey Wilma, can you help me out with the dessert? I’m planning on making some pudding.” You’ll make the star of the party happy!

“...y-yes!” Wilma is adorably excited.

Judging by their reactions. Matilda and Gautier are not willing to eat some. Chio will probably want to keep hers for later. Wilma, Grace and Mirjam will eat against their better judgment. And Cookie is a bottomless pit incapable of being satisfied. So you’ll make pudding for everyone!

Well, after dessert time is done. What will be next?

What do you do?

Let's do both. It would be handy to have the whole team (that we know is currently in the bubble) assembled. Oliver's a good frontline fighter/distraction to compliment our stealthiness and Matilda's general utility, and I can't help but feel that we're going to have something happen with the Blue Orphanage soon where he'll come in handy.

If you’re honest with yourself, you hardly think you can match Kobashi’s pudding quality, but you’ll do your best to make everyone happy, even those who aren’t planning on eating – your ultimate victory would be them deciding to try some. You have no expectations, so there isn’t any pressure but making your returning backpack happier.

It's been years since you made some, one of the couple of recipes your mom ever taught you, and the circumstances in which she did were special. It’s the closest thing you have to a family recipe, it’s so obscure you almost forgot it, maybe it’s the environment that is tickling your memories back. Well, it’s not like you practiced it ever since leaving your old home, or while at it. If your dad ever saw you cooking desserts, he would’ve called you a loser. Now who’s the real loser? You’re making people happy with your shitty talents, and it feels good to know it’s genuine.

You stop your intrusive thoughts from bothering you anymore and get your hands ready to make some Pudding! Wilma’s favorite! What a fitting end for the meal. Both Chio and Matilda offered their help, but you told them that you had all the help you needed as you pointed behind your back.

While cooking, you hear the others having a fun but mundane chat, mundane if you were from this time period. It’s not often you see Matilda getting along with others, maybe that’s the tomato magic or having people who are genuinely curious about you. She’s enjoying herself as she doesn’t need to talk much with Grace and Mirjam doing their thing, a quip here and there is enough for her to not feel excluded. Anyway, you’re happy for her! Even Chio doesn’t sound like an obnoxious teacher as she got a grip and relaxed!

You leave the desserts inside the fridge, you’ll have to wait an hour for it to be ready to serve. Kinda awkward. You should’ve started earlier but got caught making fun of Chio. Still worth it. You join the conversation letting the others know about this fact, then you think it’s time to address something important! You ask Gautier if he’s ready to talk about his story or should Wilma start, since that’s the idea for the exchange. He says he’s prepared, but Chio, Mirjam and Grace needed some clarification before moving forward, so you explained what happened while they were outside. This prompted a change of direction, as Chio thought it would be less awkward for Sugar and Gautier if they knew about what got the tomato gang so emotional beforehand – with Wilma’s consent, of course.

Chio told everyone about the Orphanage of the Blue and what Wilma has been going through, she took the reins because she thought it would be too emotionally taxing for her friend to do it. Gautier was royally pissed and Matilda had her own kind of upset reaction, a mix of silent rage and concern. If you guys didn’t explain that you’ll take measures, you think they would still be angry.

“I’m kinda glad you didn’t tell me earlier.” Gautier says as the pudding has a tranquilizing factor on him. “But I’m really pissed you didn’t tell me earlier.” He points at Wilma with his spoon.

“We’ve gone over this, it’s pointless to say anything to Wilma now.” Chio doesn’t want more of the blame game to continue.

“Sorry, I needed to get it out of my system…” Gautier scratches the back of his head with signs of remorse on his face.

“…I understand. I can’t say I did the right thing.” Wilma feels guilty about worrying everyone.

“I really want to thank you for trusting me with your story.” Matilda comments despite feeling a little afflicted. If only she accepted some pudding, maybe she would be feeling better. “And everyone as well. I know how difficult it is to open up to strangers.”

“Don’t be so stiff, Sugar!” Grace is still a little emotional upon rehearing the story. “Together we move as one and all that mumbo jumbo!”

“You’re one of us!” Mirjam nods as she wipes her tears. Who said reruns can’t hit as emotionally as the first time? “I know it doesn’t sound great now, but…”

“Yeah, it doesn’t mean much since it’s just us.” Grace chuckles. “I mean, you just heard what kind of people we are and—”

“Please don’t.” Wilma shakes her head as she interrupts Pigtails. “Please, don’t say those kinds of things. I don’t want to hear it.”

“B-But we…” Grace feels too guilty about it. You know very well what it feels like making mistakes you can’t take back.

“We…” Mirjam looks ashamed.

“Don’t insult the reason I kept going…” Wilma is in obvious pain; you pat her back to help her calm down. “And even if I had you… I wanted to escape… I was about to escape… I was willing to condemn you all… That’s one-hundred times worse than—”

“Quiet.” Chio is now the one interrupting Wilma. “We’re not going to get anything out of this.”

“B-But… I don’t want you to think I’m some kind of angel for getting through all that, to look at me feeling guilty… I’m not better… I was just like y’all. I don’t want to be treated differently! I only want things to be like they used to be…” Wilma wanted that out of her chest. Maybe she thought about it during the whole dinner, how everyone was too nice to her and it bothered her.

“Please, you’re not good enough to be treated as an angel. I mean, punching bags don’t grow wings.” Chio laughs at the idea. Wilma is in shock. “You’re the same Wilma we know and love, and nothing is going to change that.”

“For the love of the constitution, what’s wrong with you…?” Gautier is appalled.

“That’s how Chio is. Calm down.” Grace tries to ease this up.

“She’s not the best one picking the right words. You get used to it.” Mirjam helps Grace out too. Judging by Wilma’s expression, that’s not true at all.

“I don’t know how to feel, honestly. If my best friend can’t come to me for help, like, at what point is it my fault and when is it hers?” Cookie has conflicted feelings about the whole issue. “I’m just mad at myself. I don’t know which part, the one that didn’t notice or the one that made my friend think I can’t be of help.”

“Just try not to make the same mistakes again and keep doing your best.” You speak from experience. “Don’t know if it works, but I’m trying to make it work.” Man, you were supposed to be eating pudding, you don’t know what happened. “You have each other again, that’s something to look up to too. We’ll be here as well.”

“I, huh, uhm, ugh, ehm, think I derailed the conversation… S-Sorry everyone…” Cookie gets all shy.

“You already apologized to each other and were all smiles minutes ago, it’s pretty darn pointless to keep talking about this, isn’t it?” Gautier breaks the flow of the conversation even more.

The Tomato girls look at each other and realize they are just going on a guilt trip they don’t want to keep paying the fare for. They nod to each other one more time, and it feels like that is that for now.

“Since you’re so adamant to change topics, why don’t you tell us about what happened to you?” Matilda takes her chance masterfully.

“Ha! Right on. Can’t promise the smiles back with what I’m about to tell.” Gautier smirks.

“You sure you’ll be okay?” You wonder.

“I appreciate your concern. Really. I’m not used to it.” Gautier wants to laugh, but he means it. “But you said I was man enough to do this, and I don’t want you to look bad in front of the girls. So…” Gautier pretends to clean his hands. “My story is short, but please pay attention.” If Nariko was here, she would’ve had her popcorn ready.

Gautier explains that he’s not a true Children of the Future like the girls are. What he means by true CotF is that he isn’t an orphan from the war, in fact, his parents were alive 6 years ago. They both were Fitness Instructors. He was 10 years old when 2 State agents and the police came to visit his house, ransacked it, took his parents away, and never came back. He had 2 siblings with him, and the age gap among them is substantial (Gautier calls himself an accident), his lil’ bro was just a baby, and his sister was 3 at the time. After a couple of days without his parents, he took his siblings to the neighbor next door, and he called child services.

Upon hearing Gautier’s story, the Child Services Agent realized what happened and calmly explained to him what’s going on: His parents were never coming back. Gautier asked if they were dead, even if he hesitated a little, the man didn’t sugar coat it, he said he didn’t know; but it was likely they were murdered or in prison.

Little Gautier, amidst his tears, asked what was going to happen to them. The man told them he needs to make a deal with him. He was going to arrange some papers for him and his siblings to become Children of the Future. Gautier needed to pretend he was an orphan from day one, and he needed to be separated from his siblings, or else it would raise suspicion. Gautier asked why, and he told him he doesn’t have the facilities to change their names. But if they lived far apart enough, there isn’t going to be an issue – and if they keep their names, maybe one day they’ll be reunited. Gautier begrudgingly accepted, and that’s how he ended up in an orphanage in the middle of nowhere.

Gautier says he was lucky, because if it was any other public servant, he probably would’ve been turned to the police and killed. He was way too old for them to leave him alive. To this day, he doesn’t know where his siblings are, why his parents were killed…

“…That’s my life.” Gautier stares at the ceiling. Obviously, everyone has different shades of sadness on their faces now after listening to it. Wilma’s is the most unique one, it’s like she knew… “Of course, I never gave two shucks about what they wanted. School, jobs or anything. I couldn’t care less about being rank 200 or something. I just want this country to burn from top to bottom.”

“I…” Chio doesn’t like what he’s saying, but can’t come up with a rebuttal.

“Have you ever tried to find your siblings?” Matilda wonders.

“How?” Gautier sighs. “All I can do is wait for my life to pass by until I’m 18 so these caretakers bastards aren’t on my tail anymore. If one janitor is missing, nobody is going to raise an eyebrow. One part of me thinks it’s already too late to even bother, they’ll probably be better off without me, I’ll only bring them trouble.”
>>
>>4906037

“Did you give them a family memento or something? So you could recognize them or something.” You wonder. Asking that idea from a 10 years old might be a bit too much, but you never know.

“Sorry, this ain’t TV, my best pal is going to be a phone book for this, if that.” Gautier chuckles. “Have you ever wondered why no CotF has anything like that? That should answer your question.”

“………” Wilma seems to know what he’s talking about.

“What do you mean?” That piqued Cookie’s curiosity. Gautier just shrugs, like saying ‘figure it out yourself.’

“I hardly think I’ll be able to even find ‘em, it’s been years since I even tried to do anything worthwhile.” Gautier chuckles.

“Uhm? Is that why you’re so bad at flirting?” Grace tries to joke around, even though she sounded a tiny bit serious there.

“I suppose? I just ask people out, maybe I’ll hit the lottery one day.” Gautier is making those shoulders work, swinging up and down. “It’s better than winning it all the time and never cashing in.” He stares at you.

“What do you mean?” You tilt your head.

“We’re going to need to talk later about this, pal. I’m worried.” Gautier is disappointed in you.

“Is there a specific rrrreason you help the middle schoolers out?” Mirjam sneaks her own question.

“You talk about them like they aren’t people.” Gautier is kinda bothered about that. “I already answered that during lunch, so I don’t know why you are asking again. You think there is another reason?”

“I thought that maybe you like feeling like a big brother.” Mirjam confesses. Gautier never thought about it.

“Like it’s training or something? I don’t want my siblings to call me prime minister…” Gautier makes a wry face. “But really, thanks for not laughing, or questioning it, or hating on me. It feels good to let that out.”

“I mean, we’re here for you, Gauty.” Grace smiles. “Just not in that other way, y’know? That’s, uh, reserved!”

“Yeah, we’ll support you, unless you want to burn down the country, I don’t want to be burned alive.” Mirjam is scared about her own mental scenario.

“Yes, please don’t burn us alive, Gauty.” Cookie forgot how Cookies are cooked.

“…we’re friends, Gauty. We’ll stick by you.” Even Wilma is saying it.

“Stop calling me Gauty.” Gauty didn’t like that.

“That’s how nicknames stick, Gauty.” You shrug. Sounds like Goatee… You wonder how Xavi is doing.

“Honestly, I expected tears at one point. I’m disappointed.” Chio wanted him to suffer more. How cold.

“Chio, aren’t you becoming a lil’ bit too cold these days?” Cookie noticed that.

“The art world is ruthless.” Chio makes a statement.

“Isn’t it supposed to be the exact opposite?” Cookie is confused.

“You’re still so naïve about the struggles of creativity, Cookie.” Chio shakes her head.

Considering that the name is different, the hair color is different, the eyes are different, the gender is different and the fact that that would mean Oliver and Jaylene would be decently older than Flint since they went to the same highschool as Zinon I think yes, you are seeing things anon
>>
>>4906835
>the hair color is different, the eyes are different
Well nobody's born with white hair or an evil glare, but the sort of hollow irises are consistent.

>the gender is different
You're right, messed that up

>and the fact that that would mean Oliver and Jaylene would be decently older than Flint since they went to the same highschool as Zinon
That's untrue, they wouldn't be older than Flint. I don't know what kind of math you did to think highschool contemporaries with Flint's younger sister would be older than him, but it's wrong.

That being said, considering his sister was 3 at the time Flint was 10, Flint is presumably 16-17 in this bubble, and this bubble is 25 years prior to present time, you're right it's just not possible. Oliver's in his mid-late twenties, it just doesn't work out. Sorry for grasping at straws.

I still think she looks familiar though.

>Considering that the name is different
Have we heard Flint's sister's name, or Zinon's last name?

The way the eyes are drawn looks completely different tho. Sounds like a stretch

...Wait, you think Gautier is Flint and not the baby? How old do you think Flint is?

Yes actually their fake name is Zama Vatalaro but their real name Zinon Vassatos

Maybe you all went a little off-topic at the end there, it’s still Gautier’s time and you have a couple of questions to ask, so you’ll indulge yourself.

“So Gauty, what’s the child service worker’s name that helped you?” You wonder as Wilma continues chipping away her pudding.

Robert Auburn.” Gautier closes his eyes, he’ll never forget it. Another Robert? “He never said his full name, but I found out on my own, just had to take a peek at the official papers my orphanage got, can’t forget his signature and all. Not that I keep this in mind to thank him or anything, if I can find him, he can spill his guts about where he put my siblings at. It would make things easier.”

“Not a name I recognize, sorry.” You apologize. None of the girls including Matilda seem to have a hint either.

“It’s fine, it’s not like I can start hunting now.” Gautier is way more chill than the other Masterson you know. “Now stop calling me Gauty, four-eyes.”

“I’ve another question.” You pretend he didn’t just say that. “Is there anything you would want to say to your siblings? In case I find them or something.”

“Tell ‘em to call me.” Gautier shrugs.

“Let’s say contacting you isn’t exactly in the cards once I find them…” You’re a little bit cryptic because you can’t reveal everything about you now. “It’s all hypothetical.”

“Tell ‘em... tell them to find our parents’ graves.” Gautier gives you a response that has been nurturing in his head for years. “Maybe they’ll get nothing and they’re going to start asking questions, then they’ll figure out if they want to get involved or not. Or maybe they’ll find them, because I promise you, one day, I’ll give them a place to rest.”

“What are their names?” You wonder.

Gautier tells you their names: Robert and Bia. Another Robert, huh? What’s up with that?

“If I do find them, I’ll let them know.” You promise.

“You seem to be sure that’s going to be the case.” Gautier notices you’re hiding something.

“A hunch, perhaps. Don’t get your hopes up, it could take a long time.” You don’t want to be a party pooper since it was Gautier’s role this time around.

“You know something…” Gautier smells the fishy attitude from you.

“I wish I did.” You look down. “I don’t know for how long I’m gonna stay here, so that’s why I’m asking. Not that I’m leaving right now or anything.”

“Oh, I got you.” Gautier is disappointed by his own new-founded expectations.

“Aw, Gauty, don’t look so down.” Grace immediately feels bad for the prime minister.

“We should cheer him up.” Mirjam wants to help.

“Well, Phil has been patting Wilma’s head to cool her down during the whole dinner.” Cookie points out. Maybe jealousy? “Maybe that can work on our Gauty…” Cookie’s evil plans have been revealed!

“Don’t touch my hair.” Gautier doesn’t like where this is going.

“Too late! We’re doing it!” Grace is ready to put her hands on that round head. The tomato cavalry surrounds Gautier.

“Get rrrready!” Mirjam giggles.

“…!” Wilma is prepared too.

“W-Wait…!” Gauty gets attacked by Grace, Mirjam, Wilma, Cookie and even Matilda. You and Chio are the only ones watching the massacre. “AaaaaAghh….!” He’s being petted like an animal at a zoo! This is not how headpats work!

“It’s quite an ability to subdue people with.” Matilda understands now the power of headpats.

“That’s not the point at all.” As the headpat expert, you disagree!

“Your hair doesn’t look as ridiculous anymore.” Chio prefers this hairstyle on Gautier.

“See? Messy hair is the best.” You nod.

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Chio is a living contradiction.

“I think being rejected was a good thing.” Gautier didn’t enjoy it.

“Don’t be a big baby, Gauty.” Cookie had her fun.

“Then call me by my name.” Gautier is angry.

“Anyway, there is something I need to ask you all.” You get a tiny bit serious to request this favor. “Can you help me find my other friend now?”

“What’s his name?” Gautier is desperate to change topics. Maybe you should name him Leo since he’s already used to that.

“Leo Major.” You don’t want to make matters more difficult by saying he doesn’t have a name or something.

“Leave it to us, we did a great job finding Sugar!” Grace is confident.

“I mean, she didn’t want to speak to us…” Mirjam shakes her head.

“I apologize for that…” Matilda feels bad about that tiny incident.

“So, uhm, uh, what does this Leo look like?” Cookie wonders.

“Hold on, I’ll draw him.” Your last sketch did an amazing job, so you’ll do it again!

“Before we do anything, I believe it’s ill-advised for Wilma to roam outside. If the people from her orphanage find her, everything we’ve done will be for naught.” Chio has a sound head on her shoulders. “She should stay here.”

“I agree.” Matilda won’t complain about that.

“…” Wilma looks down, she wanted to help.

“In that case, Sugar, would you be willing to stay in the camper with her?” You ask your time travelling friend. “It’s yours, and one of us needs to be out there to recognize Leo if we end up finding him.”

“…!” Wilma really doesn’t want to be separated again but knows she doesn’t have any other option.

“Yes, I would be. This makes the most amount of sense.” Matilda nods and accepts your request without issue.

“Should we go out? Aren’t we, like, skipping work? What if someone finds out?” Grace wonders if she’s fine with this.

“It doesn’t matter, they can’t get us fired, remember?” Mirjam points out like the terrible influence she’s becoming. Chio stares daggers at her. “T-That’s what everyone said beforrre!” Mirjam panics as she takes things too lightly for a moment.

“I’m so disappointed in you two.” Chio won’t spare the words.

“It’s no big deal, trust me.” Gautier is a bad influence too.

“I never got any, so I’m in no trouble.” Cookie shrugs as she smiles. “The secret is never showing up the first time.”

“It seems you were right, Grace…” Mirjam chuckles uncomfortably.

“Do you think that’s the reason why good ol’ 228-B never got rebuilt?” Grace makes an interesting observation. During the most mundane talks during dinner, you heard the orphanages are named after the District’s Number and then alphabetically. You’re in District 228, but that means nothing to you.

“They never planned to rebuild the stupid thing.” Gautier reveals the truth with some harsh words.

“Huh?! Does that mean we worked for nothin’?!” Grace doesn’t like this one bit. “We were scammed! Scammed!”

“We alrrready knew that, didn’t we…?” Mirjam is confused as to why Pigtails is making a fuss about it.

“It's good preparation for what the real world is all about, so the experience wasn’t all for naught.” Chio finds some purpose in their misery.

“The real world is just work with no pay?!” Grace doesn’t like it one bit.

“That’s absolutely awful!” Matilda doesn’t like it either. “A-Anyway.” Matilda regains her composure. “You should prepare to go out before it gets too late, it’s already dangerous as it is.” Matilda is right, the night has already fallen.

“Then, here…” You leave your backpack in front of Matilda. “Now, I need some pen and paper.”

But as soon as you leave the future sandwich, you feel someone replacing her on your back, it’s Cookie!

“Now that’s unoccupied…” Cookie smirks at Wilma, taunting her. Wilma doesn’t like it! “I’m still injured from before, so you’ll have to carry me, big man.”

“You didn’t sustain such a thing.” Chio grabs Cookie away from you.

“Oh yeah, then, huh, um, I’m still too tired or something.” Cookie’s excuses are bad. “I can’t just walk, y’know?”

“You should stay here with that attitude.” Chio responds with disdain.

“Woah, if you say so.” Cookie happily goes back to one of the seats and makes herself comfortable.

“You’re coming with us, you little devil.” Chio didn’t like any of this. The sheer pressure of her glare made Cookie stand up.

“Yeah, Phil is coming with us anyway!” Grace grabs your left arm. “We deserved it after all that scolding.”

“Mhm, we’re the closest to him afterrr all too.” Mirjam grabs your right arm, then both smile at you.

“Let him draw.” Chio grabs the two away from you as well and they all sit in the bad girls’ corner with Cookie. “Here is your pen and paper, and if you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask, I’ll guide you through this.” Chio gets pretty damn close to you to get your attention.

“Chio, please stand back.” Matilda interrupts the teacher as she smirks. “The face you’re making is reminding me of a certain someone, and it’s not good news.”

“Huh?! I’m making no obscene faces!” Chio gets so shocked she arrives at the bad girls’ corner.

“I never mentioned anything about being obscene.” Matilda chuckles.

“You remember about not cashing in, right?” Gautier wants to tell you something. But you don’t get it.

“Sorry, I wasn’t paying much attention, I was drawing.” You show your sketch with pride.

“What an ugly individual.” Chio wouldn’t give Oliver a glance.

“It’s just a drawing.” Grace doesn’t understand where the hostility comes from.

“I’m a creative type, I can picture him in my head perfectly and suffice to say, I’m already disappointed.” Chio pretends what she says makes sense.

“You’re so dumb sometimes.” Cookie is disappointed with her big sister.

“Hey!” Chio gets flustered.

“…Sometimes?” Wilma rolls her eyes.

“I heard that. Was it you, Mirjam?!” Chio didn’t like being called out.

“H-Huh?!” Mirjam was just minding her own business.

“C’mon, we’re not joking, we need to find this guy.” Matilda wants order.

“Our pal needs our help.” You shrug. After listening to Matilda’s story, the streets aren’t safe in this town in the middle of nowhere.

“You all should split up to encompass more ground.” Matilda suggests.

“We’ll split into two teams.” Mirjam proposes. “One will keep the drawing and the other will be with Phil.”

“Can’t Chio, like, uhm, trace it to have a copy?” Cookie makes a good observation. Something Grace did before.

“I don’t think diluting our numbers much more will be any good. The night has fallen and we don’t want anyone to be in danger. I don’t expect results either, so don’t push yourselves.” Matilda disagrees.

“Are you underestimating us?” Chio is quite the defiant lady.

“Surprise me and I’ll change my tune.” Matilda smirks back, like proposing a challenge.

“I think she isn’t expecting much ‘cause it is dark outside.” Cookie seems to understand.

“If he’s hanging around the fields, maybe. But nobody does that at these hours.” Gautier shrugs.

“It’s Ol— I mean, Leo. It might be the case.” Matilda expects the worst in every sense.

“You have any idea where he might have likely gone?” You ask Matilda for extra information. She’s the one who has hung out with him the most out of the people here.

“I already looked for him during the day, and I failed to locate him in the places I thought he might be in.” Matilda doesn’t have hope.

“What a non-answer.” Cookie is taking notes for her lazy future.

“Guess we’ll have to hit the usual spots.” Gautier has an idea of what to do. “How are we gonna split?”

All the girls turn to you. It’s natural since you’re the tallest and probably the best defensive unit here.

“Obviously, me and Mirjam are going to hang out with Phil.” Grace takes the initiative.

“Can’t argue with that.” Mirjam nods.

“Hold your horses, why?” Cookie isn’t happy with this distribution. “He needs to carry me, y’know?”

“No, he doesn’t.” Chio is against Cookie being lazy.

“We already spent a lot of time with Gauty just now.” Grace justifies.

“So? That leaves you two with Chio!” Cookie pouts.

“You’re also an option.” Chio raises an eyebrow. “And if anything, I would like to hang out with Phil, myself. You all seem to be distracted by his presence.”

“Hypocrite.” Grace looks away. Chio looks confused.

“Isn't it too late for a bunch of girls to hang out on their lonesome? That leaves us without no one but Phil to hang out with.” Mirjam finishes the logic train that departed from Grace’s station.

“I’m up for it.” You agree with Mirjam and Grace, both girls look really excited. They must enjoy your company a lot!

“B-But who’s going to carry me…?” Cookie isn’t happy at all.

“I can carry your fat ass around.” Gautier doesn’t see the big deal.

“How crass, mind your language.” Chio glares at Masterson. He looks back at her all dumbfounded, like he doesn’t know how else he could’ve said it.

“Oh wait, I’m feeling so much better now! I still wanna hang out with Phil, though. Don’t know why my knees feel so weak around him, but whatever.” Cookie starts stretching like she’s in peak physical condition.

“I can come up with a reason or two.” Matilda smirks.

“Huh? Y-You can?” Cookie gets flustered.

“Well, if you’re feeling fine, there are no more issues!” Grace smiles.

“Yup, everything is under control now!” Mirjam smiles away.

“You seem to have overlooked my previous comments.” Chio is part of this conversation. “I wish to show him around. You two did such a poor job when you were with him, he got lost multiple times. I want to rectify it.”

“I didn’t overlook anything, I called you a ‘hypocrite’, remember?” Grace casually responds. Chio glares at her with murderous intent. “Y-You already spend more time with him than anyone here…!”

“Enough.” Matilda interrupts. “If you keep arguing like this, we’ll never move on.”

“…Can I decide?” Wilma raises her hand. Matilda nods. “Grace, Mirjam go with Phil. The others go together.”

“Huh?!” Cookie and Chio feel betrayed.

“…Keep my spot safe.” Wilma stares at Grace and Mirjam, who both nod back. The tomato alliances are evolving.

Now that the groups have been decided, it’s time to move on!

“It’s decided then.” Matilda puts an end to this verbal brawl.

“I-It’s only natural for me to accompany the younger ones due to my position, I suppose.” Chio is trying to rationalize what just happened. “Well thought out, Wilma.”

“…Thank you.” Wilma nods in agreement. Cookie doesn’t feel the same way.

“Don’t get it wrong, I’ll be the one keeping you safe, teach.” Gautier smirks. Chio rolls her eyes as Cookie continues pouting.

“Please do.” You depend on him again, he’s reliable, so you’re not worried. Unless they fight a bear. He can’t beat a bear. You can. You already beat one, and despite it being so cute you still showed her who’s boss.

“Before you go, I’ll move the van a little deeper into the road, I don’t want to keep obstructing the main gate.” Matilda explains to everyone. “Please return in an hour or so, I’ll take you back home.”

“Riiiight.” The crowd agrees. You heard a couple of extra Rs during it.

“Phil, come over, I need to show you something.” Matilda asks for your attention, she stares at everyone else so they can give you some space, they do and Wilma joins Grace and Mirjam and reform the tomato triumvirate to talk about something. You get closer to Matilda. It’s an empty box of pudding with the recipe. “You see?”

“Huh, you want more?” You wonder. You didn't know Matilda loved them! God, you wish you saw her face while eating one.

“…That’s not what I’m getting at. It’s readable.” Matilda points out, you didn’t notice normal things are acting normal again! She didn’t say she didn’t want more… “Do you think it’s linked with the amount of time we’ve spent here?”

“I don’t know, but it sounds likely.” You’ll subscribe to that theory.

“I’ll talk to San while you are out, maybe he can clarify some of my enquiries.” Matilda has a plan.

“Just don’t ignore Wilma while you’re doing it, she’s your friend too.” You remind Sugar that she needs to be sweet.

“I won’t.” Matilda promises. “You can go now.”

“Right. I’ll see you in an hour or so.” You nod. You’re ready to go.

And after so many delays, you left the Camper with a mission at hand: to find Oliver once and for all. Well, not without wishing everyone good luck! And promising Wilma and Matilda that you’ll be fine. You all start walking to the town together, and tell the other group what your plans are, they are going to the shopping district, while you plan on going to the police station. Now inside Xumenlo proper, both teams go their own ways.

“Good thinking, Phil. If he’s lost, he probably went to the police station for help!” Mirjam agrees with your line of thinking.

“And if he didn’t, they probably heard something. Old folks around are always complaining.” Grace nods too.

“Huh, yeah, that’s exactly it.” Frankly, you thought Oliver was inside jail or something, he always manages to get himself in trouble...

You don’t know if it’s just you, but the lights around town are very orangey, you like the feeling of walking around these parts. It’s cold, but the breeze hits differently than in the city. You can actually read some of the pamphlets on the buildings you spotted earlier in the day, but it’s dark enough that it’s a pain to try to decipher them without fully stopping.

Anyway, you arrive at the police station. It’s way smaller than what you’re used to, but it’s not dissimilar in size to the other buildings in town, it’s almost like they all were built by the same person or something. You all go inside and say hi to the officer at the front desk! You introduce yourself and everything! Behind her, there are like 6 or 7 desks. It’s not a big place at all.

“Officer Yareli, we need your help!” Grace asks politely but effusively. They treat her with more respect than Kobashi.

“Yes, it’s imporrrtant.” Mirjam acts calmer so the officer doesn’t freak out.

“What can I help you with?” Officer Yareli wants to be useful.

What do you do?

>“Is Officer Kobashi here, I need to talk to him.” It’s better if you don’t divulge Oliver’s disappearance to too many people.
>“We’re looking for a friend of mine, have you seen him?” You have to get the information you need, don’t you?
>“Before we delve into that, anything suspicious happen lately?” Better to know what’s going on first. You don’t want to be the friend of a criminal.

“We’re looking for a friend of mine, have you seen him?” You came for information.

“What does he look like?” Officer Yareli’s monotonous voice is quite something.

“Uhm…” Oh yeah, you handed the drawing to the others. What should you do? “Grace, Mirjam, c’mere and help me out…”

And so, the three of you together did an over-elaborated and convoluted acrobatic pantomime show to display what Oliver’s face looks like instead of drawing him again. The Policewoman gets what you’re talking about because you’re not a fraud and you know what you’re doing.

“Can you help us…?” You ask as the cheerleading pose ends. “His name is Leo.”

“Yes, I know, he’s in a cell right there.” Yareli says it like it’s the most boring thing that has ever happened in her life. She points at a room you don’t have access to.

“Huh?!” You, Mirjam and Grace are in shock! You had to feign it a little since you were kinda expecting something dumb.

“I knew it, you’re a delinquent!” Grace proclaims. “That’s so cool!”

“It isn’t…!” Mirjam shoots down the idea. “But it certainly gives you character…” Maybe she’s just pretending in front of the officer.

“Hey, I’m no delinquent.” You can’t believe they throw you under the bus like that!

“We’re kidding!” Grace smiles as she flails her arms around. “And even if you were, I don’t care.”

“Me neither. We’re frrriends forever!” Mirjam smiles too.

“Aw, you girls...” A smile escapes your face. They’ve grown so much since this morning.

“I care.” Yareli breaks the emotional moment with her emotionless attitude. “Have you participated in illegal activities lately?”

“Uhm, no?” You don’t know why she’s asking upfront but you’re clean.

“I have my arms tied then.” Yareli just doesn’t care or she plays too much by the book. Whatever it is, you’re safe.

“Why did you lock him up, Officer Yareli?” Mirjam wonders.

“He was trespassing private property during late hours.” Officer Yareli explains briefly.

“Were you the one who locked him up? I know you’re cool enough to do something like that!” Grace asks to continue the interrogation. “N-Not like locking up your friends is something cool, Phil.” Grace realizes she said something weird.

“Yes. You all know I work the night shifts.” Yareli sounds a little creepy.

“Can I go see him?” You need to see if he’s fine or not.

“I apologize, but you’ll have to wait for the morning.” The Officer doesn’t seem like someone who can budge easily…

What do you do?

>“I just want to check out if it’s him or not, it’s not gonna take long, I promise.” Try to negotiate with her.
>“Is Officer Kobashi around?” Maybe he can help you out.

“Ehem, I didn’t hear you clearly…” You take your glasses off. For some reason, taking your glasses makes some people change their minds, so you’ll give it a shot for Oliver! “Can I go see him?”

“No.” Officer Yareli stoically retorts.

Okaythanks.” You’ll never do anything like this again. You put them back.

“Did we miss something?” Grace wonders as Mirjam and her unsuccessfully took a peek to see if they could see anything in the room Oliver is being held in.

“No.” You pretend nothing happened.

“Mr. Noon’s hearing wasn’t at its best and I had to repeat myself, that’s all.” Officer Yareli adds. “Seriously, girls, you don’t have access to see this Leo guy.”

Sorrry…” Mirjam apologizes for trying to be a lil’ cheeky.

“Is officer Kobashi around?” Maybe you can have a better deal with him, he was pretty cool when you met him earlier.

“Sorry, his shift ended a while ago, his is the first shift of the day. He’ll be right here at 5 AM tomorrow.” Yareli is kind enough to answer all your questions.

“Did he find his bike? I saw one near the school’s gate” You ask as you scratch your cheek.

“You’re aware of that? Well, yes, he retrieved that one. Did you happen to find a similar bike to his somewhere else?” Yareli wonders.

“No, not really. Is there another one missing?” You ask back.

“That’s correct. Our bikes have identification numbers on the side, we confirmed Officer Kobashi’s is the one you mentioned. If you happen to find the one missing, notify us.” Yareli cordially asks from all of you. “If we work together, we can put a stop to these bike thieving incidents.”

“What’s its serial number?” You want to get more information. There are many incidents in your life that haven’t been answered, like that snowman and what happened to your van, you don’t want to add this to the pile.

“It’s the number 006. It’s the one that belongs to me…” Yareli looks so sad… First emotion you’ve seen on her face.

“Aw, don’t be so sad, Officer Yareli! We’ll help you look for it!” Grace makes a hefty promise.

“Mhm! You’ve helped us just now, we’ll return the favor!” Mirjam nods in agreement.

“Yeah, we’ll do our best.” You smirk.

“I appreciate it.” Officer Yareli sounds content, it doesn’t look like it, but that’s how she sounds…

“One last question, or, err, favor. If it’s isn’t a problem, can you tell Leo we will visit him tomorrow?” You ask politely.

“Sure. I just need to wait for another officer to come around to deliver your message.” Yareli nods. “I pray for you to have a nice stay in this town, Mr. Noon. If you need anything, please contact me or Officer Kobashi. I know it’s different in other places , but we’ll do anything in our power to protect this little community.”
>>
>>4913169

“Thanks.” You don’t know how to take that knowing what’s already happening inside it, but hey, maybe she has no idea. Supposedly it was the police that busted the Orphanage of the Blue, despite what other more powerful individuals wanted.

“Thank you, officer Yareli!” Mirjam does a little bow.

“Thank you for being so nice to us!” Grace bows too.

“Don’t stay out too late. You don’t want to find me outside in the streets.” Yareli sounds ominous…

You feel like this conversation has run its course… But has it?!

“One question before we go, how did you lose the bike?” You need your toothpick back, because maybe you’re willing to do one last job as a detective.

“It was stolen while I wasn’t looking during my incident with Leo. When I came back to it, it was missing. It should’ve been around 12:45 AM.” Yareli looks at her wristwatch. She is really open to answering any question! You wonder if that’s normal with cops in this era or if she and Kobashi are the exception.

“Oooh, it was just recently?!” Grace finds this fascinating.

“I know what it is like losing your vehicle.” You look up longingly. You understand the pain after what happened to your van, and from that officer that helped you get it back.

“I’m happy you sympathize with my predicament.” The policewoman retorts without showing one bit of emotion, but one part of you thinks she’s not being facetious. “Patrolling around today has been extremely uncomfortable.”

“Oh, is that reason you’re doing office work, Officer Yareli?” Mirjam deduces. Hey, you’re the detective here, what’s she doing?

“Correct. But do not fret, I’m forever vigilant.” Officer Yareli speaks like she’s an eldritch being.

“This made me wonder, for how long is Leo going to be in jail?” You sneak an important question in.

“I can’t say. We’re waiting for his lawyer to show up, there were some issues that arrived from his arrest and once those are clarified, he will be good to go. The owners of the enclosure were adamant on pressing charges, but I managed to convince them not to do so.” Officer Yareli explains.

“Woah, talk about going the extra mile! Hehe!” Grace is surprised by Yareli’s kindness.

“Why did you do that for him?” Mirjam is a little more curious about the issue.

“He was acting disoriented, like he was recently abducted by aliens. I don't think it is appropriate to pile more problems onto him.” Yareli feels a little guilty from the incident.

“A-Aliens?” Grace looks uncharacteristically scared.

“Can I bail him out or something?” You wonder if you can pay for it.

“The reasons he’s imprisoned are merely administrative.” Yareli shakes her head. “Anyhow, we don’t accept money, we haven’t for decades. The crime dramas you might catch on TV are made overseas; it doesn’t apply here.” You can’t say you have much experience inside prisons, so you don’t know if this is out of the norm in present times or not.

“Thanks officer.” It’s not like you had any money.

This less so since doing it with one of them lowers the chance of the one we realistically have the best chance with (despite what she says). I admire the enthusiasm though
>>
>>4914392
Speaking of playing the hand we're dealt the best we can, I think it's fine and actually ADVISABLE to push Matilda's boundaries and comfort zone a bit. She needs insightful but frankly I suspect somewhat confrontational/unpleasant help in order to unlock and begin to understand her own feelings. She's got too much pent up and too many mental defenses otherwise. Wouldn't be surprised if she gets angry at us at some point in the process, but I also think she's not like these mentally broken flame wielders that are sprinkled around us who need our help just to keep from imploding so if we're in the right she'll see it and appreciate it in the end.
>>
>>4914404
I mean I don't think it necessarily needs to be confrontational. But I honestly believe that if we jokingly bring up sexual situations she'd bite.

Johnny is too dense to get sexual himself, not without prior influence or somebody else getting him into that mindstate.
>>
>>4914406
Nah, I'm not talking about confrontational on sexual things. More on the emotional issues that cause her troubles with...everything else. I guess confrontational is a bit stronger a word than what I meant anyway, I just can't help but recall how we had to call her on her shit SEVERAL times in Love Scramble for her to open up. I know that will happen again whenever we seriously attempt to broach romantic topics with her.

You ask very innocently that if you happen to find the bike, could returning it make the administrative reasons Oliver is being held for be sped along or forgotten about? Yareli says she would never do such a thing, it goes against the law, but if the circumstances remain the same as they are now, she would allow you to pay him a visit to return the favor. She’s strict, but kind, despite the coldness.

You all thank the good officer Yareli once more before leaving the police station, promising her that you’ll probably return tomorrow and asking her to send the message to Oliver if possible. Yareli promises she will, and that takes a chip off your shoulders.

With no more intelligent options available, you decide to return to the Camper and let everyone know that you found Oliver. On your way, the tomato duo sparks an important conversation:

“Hey Phil, there is something I’ve been meaning to tell you...” Grace doesn’t sound as aloof as she normally does.

“Do you want to talk about that now?” Mirjam asks her roommate. Grace nods in response. Mirjam nods too. “I was thinking about saying it too…”

“What is it?” You’re a little concerned.

“Well, Phil, the thing is…” Grace is trying to put into words but she gets stuck.

“Chio told us everything that happened to Wilma.” Mirjam starts talking before the silence becomes deafening. The shyer of the two takes control of the conversation, it really means they are comfortable talking with you! “Every single bit…” Mirjam looks down with guilt written in her face.

“She told us how you busted Wilma out of that horrible place all on your own.” Grace gives you more credit than you deserve, Kobashi was there after all. “Scolded us for not being there for Wilma and Cookie, and…”

“Hey, it’s not the time to beat yourselves down, what’s done is done.” You don’t want some sad tomatoes around.

“It’s not about that.” Grace doesn’t want you to get the wrong idea. “But since we met you…”

“You’ve done so much for us. Even though we’re nothing special, you didn’t judge us.” Mirjam completes the phrase.

“Yeah, that! You, like, listened to our story, helped our sisters, made us food and reunited us, even though pretty much everyone ignored us! You’ve done so much for us and got nothing in return! Nobody has been this kind to us before!” Grace effusively exclaims.

“What do you mean? You girls showed me around.” You nod.

“Are you serrrious?” Mirjam doesn’t believe you.

“He’s joking, hehe!” Grace doesn’t take you seriously. “The thing is, Phil, we don’t care about what your reasons are.”

“…or if you had rrreasons at all.” Mirjam smiles as she starts walking backwards in front of you. “We just wanna thank you!”

“Thank you! You’re the best!” Grace raises her hands up in the air as she starts walking alongside Mirjam.

Both girls look at each other and start giggling, then run off to the Camper without looking back!

You’re left speechless, but with a warm feeling in your heart.

You walk back inside the van— you mean, the camper, as the door was left open by Mirjam and Grace. Inside you see Wilma handing cups of tea to her orphanage sisters, Matilda appears by your side and hands you one as well.

“Welcome back. Here, it will warm you up.” Matilda closes the door behind you, it’s cold outside and she wasn’t interested in freezing herself.

“Thanks.” You take a sip, it’s disgusting, it probably doesn’t even have a cube of sugar inside. You’ll have to look for some sugar. “Did the girls tell you that we found him?”

“They said he’s in jail.” Matilda saw it coming, but wasn't happy.

“Yes, he is…” You put two spoonfuls of sugar inside your tea. “The others haven’t arrived.”

“Well, they have 30 minutes before we start worrying. We agreed with Wilma to wait 2 hours before taking matters into our hands.” Matilda let’s you know. Whoa, you don’t think it felt that long outside.

“…Hey.” Wilma makes her presence known as the Tomato Triumvirate approaches you. She doesn’t return to her rightful place just yet.

“Heyo, did you have fun with Sugar?” You start patting her head.

“Mhm, we played some games.” Wilma shows the board game, it’s some kind of chess, or actual chess. You can’t tell because the colored tokens are flat, but they have some engraving on them.

“Did you win?” You wonder.

“…No.” Wilma shakes her head. “But I was close.” Wilma will have her revenge.

“Don’t lie.” Matilda won’t let Wilma claim that for herself.

You don’t lie.” Wilma gives her strongest ‘no u’ to Matilda. You can’t tell who’s saying the truth.

“Woah, Sugar has Jenga too!” Grace finds it in one of the cabins.

“D-Don’t snoop around like that.” Mirjam pretends she’s a good girl, but you know her true nature now.

“It’s fiiiine! Right, Sugar?” Grace smirks.

“Yes, treat this place as your own home.” Matilda has no issues with them doing what they want. Well, if she knew what happened to their last home…

“Wanna play while we wait?” Grace shakes the box.

“I need to talk about what happened with Sugar first, but you girls go ahead in the meantime, we’ll join you when we’re done.” You reply.

Surrre.” Mirjam doesn’t see an issue. “C’mon Wilma! We won’t let you win easily!”

“…Heh.” A confident Wilma leaves your side to play with her friends. Grace puts the structure on the board Matilda and Wilma were playing on…

You and Matilda walk to the front seats to talk this out. You explain to her what you know about Oliver’s whereabouts as you drink your tea. It really warms the body. You can tell how disappointed Matilda is...
>>
>>4914555

“So, you learn anything from San?” You need to know!

“Mhm, Wilma takes her time planning her moves, so I had my windows to ask questions.” Matilda nods. Maybe that’s the reason she decided to play those board games… “I didn’t learn anything groundbreaking, but I had a theory. I estimate we have time to talk about what I think is going on or I can relay to you what San said to me, and you draw your own conclusions before the others arrive or before we have to find them, we’ll leave a bit for later. Without Oliver, we’re not going anywhere.”

What do you want to know?

>Well, it will be easier to understand everything if you know what San said. So you’ll start with that.

>Hearing Matilda’s theory will be far shorter and to the point than to draw your own conclusions. If you have any doubts, you’re sure Philonune can fill the gaps, he talked with San too.
In this instance, knowing San, I think the raw information is probably pretty mundane. We should be able to infer (and hear from Philonune) what we need to know after hearing Matilda's theory.

“Does the van have a phone? I can call Chio and tell them to come back, I have her number.” You tell Matilda as you pull out the teacher’s number from your pocket.

“You got another teacher’s number?” Matilda finds it amusing.

“Yeah, I have Conti’s ‘cause of Poker Nights, remember?” May they rest in peace. Huh, but you don’t remember having Conti’s number, and he’s not a teacher anymore. But why do you feel like you have it? It’s like you’re suppressing the memory of that incident. Why did you call it an incident…? Too many questions, and none of them matter now, just like Mr. Conti.

“I meant someone else.” Matilda almost facepalms. “I got this cell phone if you’d like to call her.” Matilda hands you a big phone that doesn’t look like it was made to be carried around.

“Sheesh…” You grab it, it’s heavy… “Just give me a minute.” You dial the number. The phone is so damn loud…

Chio answers like the most professional secretary you have ever heard, rivaling Natalie perhaps. You just tell her you did find Oliver, but it’s complicated, and ask her to come back. She’ll be here soon. With the call done, you inform everyone about the others coming back, and get back into the mood of the real talk.

“Just tell me what San said to you to have time to process all of this, so we can have a fruitful discussion later.” You think it will be better this way.

“Very well…” Matilda starts relaying to you the information the great San Wich gave to her.

Just as a little side note, Matilda wrote down the questions on a piece of paper for San to read, he answered during Wilma’s turns. Matilda pretended she was taking notes while playing, and assures you she was too distracted giving Wilma the false sense of the game being anything close. That was a long and unnecessary clarification, but who are you to judge?

It’s not clear to Matilda how exactly San Wich found out about some of these stuff, but he assured her of the following:

-The World you’re currently in is stabilizing. Whether it means that your presence in it has become a permanent fragment of it, or the world is being constituted at last is unknown. Neither prospect really tells you much.

-The large number of presences in this world are indistinguishable from each other. In other words, and for example: San doesn’t feel like you and Matilda are any different from Mirjam and Grace, despite you guys being sucked in it. San said that even though your bodies were transported here, the physical manifestation of everyone else here has the exact same properties. They are no illusions, and your bodies haven’t been altered either.

-The World is channeling a great amount of energy from somewhere else and from different diverse sources, and it’s constantly flowing back and forth. Each link of energy is not that big, but the sheer amount surpasses any accountable number for San.
>>
>>4915750

-San thinks he’s able to start communicating with Wilma. But has refrained from doing so, as he wants to leave the decision to you all, and doesn’t want to interfere in “the good things you’re doing”.

You have way too many questions, but it’s going to take some time to digest and make sense of all of this information. Good thing the others are back so you can relax your mind a little. Wilma and company hand them a cup of tea as well, and they tell them about where Oliver is. Chio didn’t like that, and said your friend will be a bad influence to the girls. You also hear Cookie complaining about how cold it was outside and that her tracksuit didn’t help that much. Oh well, at least they’re back.

Now you need to discuss with whom Wilma shall stay tonight, because it’s getting late and you need to take everyone home safely.

What do you do?

>Wilma should stay in the Camper with you and Matilda.
>Wilma should stay with Chio.
>Wilma should stay with Mirjam and Grace.
>Ask where the hell is Cookie staying. Was she sleeping at the cookie factory this whole time!?

The conversation leaned on the clarification of Oliver’s situation to the ever-judgmental Chio, until it shifted to another important topic at hand: Where Wilma is going to stay now that she can’t come back to her orphanage. Everyone’s positions were made clear, it isn’t going to be easy to have her around but they would do what they can:

Gautier thinks he can sneak Wilma into his dorm if it’s necessary, but he offers it out of politeness as he doesn’t think you’re going to take him up on said offer.

Grace and Mirjam are constantly under surveillance because of the place they’re residing now (remember, their orphanage imploded and they are staying at a CotF Dorm), so they would struggle to keep Wilma a secret. Having Wilma in of itself is not gonna be an issue, since their caretakers know they are close, but if they find out, they are probably going to return Wilma to the Orphanage of the Blue.

Chio is willing to take Wilma in even if it means she could lose her scholarship. Any stain on her police record can potentially withdraw her from her program, and this is essentially kidnapping Wilma. Also, even if she pledges ignorance, scholarship holders are forbidden from sharing their living spaces with other CotF who aren’t from the same Rank or higher. Yeah, it applies to people even in college. It’s like they don’t want CotF to help each other…

“Wilma’s situation is different from the rest of us since she was adopted. The authorities won’t display the same apathy as they do with other CotF rogues if Wilma’s caretakers notify the police. And I’m certain that will be the case.” Chio dutifully explains.

“Hey, Wilma can stay at my secret place! No way they’ll find her there, nobody found me y’know?” Cookie finds the perfect solution.

“I’m sure you’re very well aware the Orphanage of the Blue was keeping tabs on all of you. You’ll be the first people they are going to seek out for answers about her daughter’s disappearance. Maybe your secret spot isn’t as secret as you think it is.” Matilda heard all about the cookie factory. Cookie looks like her soul is about to leave her body.

“We don’t want any of you to get into any trouble, and more importantly, we don’t want Wilma to be found out.” You adjust your glasses. “For now, I think the answer is for her to stay in the Camper.”

“With Sugar?” Grace tilts her head.

“I’ll stay here too; I’ll make sure both will be fine.” You promise.

“You would? Thank you!” Mirjam appreciates you!

“…Then I’ll do whatever causes everyone the least amount of trouble.” Wilma will be happy anywhere.

“You’re not causing trouble, you’re just a major inconvenience.” Chio’s words are never the right ones. Wilma looks in shock.

“Isn’t that the same thing?” Matilda raises an eyebrow.

“As long as this chipmunk’s safe.” Gautier doesn’t mind.
>>
>>4915971

“At least for today...” Chio begrudgingly agrees. “It’s late, let’s return to our homes.”

It’s 11:00 PM…

“…So we have to go? I don’t wanna go.” Grace is being clingy.

“Don’t worry, I’ll kick you out of my Camper near your homes.” Matilda smirks. Grace, Mirjam, Cookie and Gautier didn’t like that! “Tell me where to go.”

And so, Matilda started driving everyone to their homes. You don’t want to say out loud that you’re worried sick because MATILDA DOESN’T HAVE AN ACTUAL LICENSE AND YOU MIGHT FUCKING DIE, AAAAAHH!

...She’s going awfully slow though, so maybe it won’t be that bad! You ask everyone to put their seatbelts on.

The trip order is Grace and Mirjam first, then Chio, and at last Cookie and Gautier.

What do you do?

>Ask Matilda if she found some clothes for you, you’re sick and tired of using this uniform!

After some beautiful and heartfelt good-byes for the night, you part ways with everyone! Wilma got well-wishes and hugs from everyone, except Gautier who merely made her hair messier with his hands. You got lots of hugs (from Mirjam, Grace and even Cookie!) and an ever-increasing warm feeling in your heart. Chio requested to be kept informed, so Matilda gave her phone’s number in case she’s worried about Wilma. Chio called immediately like a big worried sister, and you had to personally calm her worries down. Didn’t work. So Chio ended up chatting with Wilma instead and that did the trick.

You didn’t know Cookie and Gautier live in the same orphanage; it seems Cookie got transferred there when the girls lost theirs. Frankly, she looked nervous for some odd reason but you managed to ease her nerves with some encouraging words. Gautier almost had to drag her with him, but Cookie was a good girl and walked away with him. Everyone lives so far apart from each other it’s not even funny…

“…” Wilma is staring longingly through the windows as Cookie turns around after waving good-bye once again. Like a puppy missing her owner.

“Where are you driving us to?” You ask Matilda to strike a conversation.

“I located an empty lot in town where we can park the Camper. I asked a police officer about it and he said it wouldn’t be an issue.” Matilda really had everything planned, huh? Might as well check out how prepared she is!

“Right…” You nod. “Question, did you happen to find some clothes for me? I’m tired of using this uniform.” And since you don’t actually have to return to school, you don’t have to actually wear this again.

“Well, this is my father’s Camper. So if you look around, you’ll find something.” Matilda doesn’t bother to tell you where to look.

“O.K.” Eugh, you sounded like Amelia there.

You looked around for some clothes and the only comfortable clothes you found were some tracksuits. You changed inside the bathroom. At least you have a hoodie, but it’s way too wide for you.

“I feel like a bat.” You wave your wings. How big are her grandfather’s arms?

“…It looks good on you.” Wilma approves.

“Really?” You keep swinging them with more force to show how ridiculous they are.

“We’re here.” Matilda parks the Camper. Mission Complete. She takes the keys off and turns to you. “You look comical.”

“Hey.” You don’t appreciate that. You spend part of the day complimenting her looks, and this is how she repays you? “I bet if you wear this you would look like a camping tent.”

“I have enough common sense to not even try.” Matilda waves the idea off.

What do you do?

You think it would be a good idea to plan what you’re going to do tomorrow before hitting the hay, so you’re going to start the topic:

“But what if we get lost in the woods, Matilda? We would need a camping tent.” Okay, maybe you don’t think this conversation is over. Wilma doesn’t understand what’s going on.

“My same common sense doesn’t allow me to get randomly lost in the woods.” Matilda treats you like the fool you try to pretend not to be.

“Enough…” You flap your wings once again before moving on. Her common sense should’ve told her that your whole argument never made any sense. “We need to talk about what our plans are for tomorrow.”

“Uhm…” Wilma just realizes she never had a plan to begin with. “A-Are you planning to go back home?”

“I told you, we won’t leave until your situation is sorted out.” Matilda reminds the fidgeting tomato. It appears this was something that came up during their talk.

“Oh good, I thought I had to convince you of that.” You relax a bit. “I don’t know where to start though.”

“Well, we need to recover Leo from jail.” Matilda starts counting with her fingers. “Learn more about the situation we’re in. Find a way to communicate with the others. Fix Wilma’s situation, whether by busting that filthy orphanage for what it is or finding another way to legally take her out of there.”

“…Is it asking too much if we help everyone in there? I don’t want to only save myself.” Wilma pleads. “I want everyone to be okay.”

“Yes, that’s a hefty task.” Matilda doesn’t hide the fact you’re not prepared to do this much. Well, you defeated a big ass cult with the help of a lot of people, maybe you can destroy a smaller cult with the help of fewer people! “You’re the miracle worker, Phil. It’s your call.”

“We’ll do our best to stop them. But it’s not something I can promise to do in one day, it might take some time. We didn’t travel with everything we wish we had after all.” You were lucky enough to make the tomato reunion work in one, but you don’t want to run out your luck. You still need to leave this bubble somehow or you won’t cuddle with Scarlet.

“T-That’s fine by me, I believe in you.” Wilma’s trust in you is way too high.

“Still, we need to make sure our stay here isn’t problematic for us.” Matilda points at you and herself. “It might be too late for us to do anything about it, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need confirmation of our situation.”
>>
>>4916200

“A-Are you in danger…? If you are, please—”

“We’ll take responsibility for our decisions.” Matilda interrupts Wilma. You nod, you’re not the same risk taker as you were before, but you’re still a risk taker for those you care about. Damn, you’re cheesy… “And Wilma, I might’ve worded it incorrectly, but as of now, our lives aren’t in danger. Knowing our situation will allow us to determine how much leeway we have moving forward. That’s all.”

“If we were in a hurry, we wouldn’t have left our friend in prison, y’know?” You try to ease Wilma’s troubling thoughts with some facts. Oliver is important to you as well, and you won’t leave him behind. Wilma meekly nods in response. “Anyway, any ideas on where to start?”

“Up to you.” Matilda will let you be responsible for this decision.

What’s the plan for tomorrow?

“We need to recover Oliver, we need the manpower and I’m worried about him.” You confess. You think this is the best course of action. Here’s hoping Matilda agrees.

“I’m not that worried about him, he has been in prison before. But yes, let’s help him out.” Matilda jokes around, she must be in a good mood.

“Has he?” Wilma starts fidgeting.

“Another misunderstanding.” You pat Wilma’s head to calm her down. That misunderstanding is called TERRORISM. Wilma starts leaning on your hand and closes her eyes.

“You’ve been looking tired for a while, Wilma. It’s better if you take a rest.” Matilda points out, a little concerned about the tomato’s wellbeing. Wilma grabs your hand with both of hers, and starts rubbing her head on it.

“No… I don’t want this day to end.” Wilma believes her reality is better than her dreams.

“We’ll be here tomorrow, relax.” You reassure the damaged girl.

“You promise…?” Wilma opens her eyes, full of hope.

“Yeah.” You’re not planning on getting sucked inside another bubble.

“…Can you sleep by my side?” Wilma wants to sleep as comfortably as she can.

“Aren’t you a little old to sleep with someone else?” Matilda raises an eyebrow.

“It’s too lonely.” Wilma closes her eyes again to remember better times. Neither Matilda or you expected her to be this blunt.

“Well, Mirjam left your bedsheets with your clothes and other stuff inside. If you’re tired, you should change into those.” Matilda points at one of the upper cabinets.

“…?!” For some odd reason, Wilma’s eyes open wide in shock, and she hurries to check out what’s in it.

“We’ll prepare the beds.” Matilda points to the side with her head. You follow your martial artist master and help her out.

Rearranging some of the seats at the back made it possible to have 2 beds, not the most comfortable but they’ll do the trick. Matilda hands you a couple of sleeping bags, and some blankets. You assume you two will sleep in the clothes you are wearing. Wilma comes back in the outfit you saw her in the first time you met!

“…I’m ready.” Wilma turns tomato.

“Your bed is waiting.” Matilda points at the one with 2 sleeping bags.

“Uhm…” Wilma gets uncomfortable as she notices the 2 sleeping bags.

“Isn’t that what you wanted? You’ll sleep next to Phil.” Matilda smirks.

“…I wanted to sleep with you too.” Wilma reveals.

“Eh…?” Matilda didn’t see that one coming! Neither did you. “E-Excuse me?”

“Please.” Wilma asks nicely. You guess she used to sleep with all of her tomato brethren, hence why she’s asking now. Is this a thing in this time period? You remember your mom doing something similar, like she hated sleeping by herself.

“Oh heavens.” Matilda shakes her head.

“What’s wrong? Scared?” You wiggle your eyebrows.

“Hmph, why would I be scared?” Matilda dismisses you with ease. “I just think it won’t be comfortable.”

“You’re wrong.” Wilma shakes her head. “It’s the best.” Wilma is struggling to keep her eyes open.

“You deserve to rest too, Sugar. You did amazing today.” You try to reinforce the idea to her.

“I-I suppose…” Matilda wasn’t planning on it. She relents and puts her sleeping bag next to the others. Ever since the prospect of sleeping arose, you began feeling sleepy as well. “I’m setting an alarm.” Matilda puts it on the ground next to the bed.

“Thank you.” Wilma is really grateful for all you’ve done during the day.

Guess you don’t have any other option but to sleep at the same time right now. You get all inside your sleeping bags and under the covers, it’s cold outside, so the sleeping bags need some help! Matilda is on the right side, Wilma in the middle and you’re at the left side against the wall. You don’t know what you’ll do if you need to go to the bathroom… Also, you don’t have enough space to move around. Matilda was right, this ain’t comfy.

Everyone says good night to each other as Matilda turns the lights off. It didn’t take long after that for Wilma to fall asleep, she didn’t lean on you or Matilda, she was just that tired. Matilda and you kept staring at each other for a bit, somewhat uncomfortable, until she turned all the way around and dozed off. You did the same…

Like all good things, Wilma’s happiest day has come to an end… you’ll do your best to make it her happiest week!

Sadly this is all we have for this week’s thread, thanks for playing and see you next time!
