>What is this?
"The Mystery Dungeons 2e" is a text-based role-playing game created to expand on the setting created by the spinoff series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. This has no story relation to the first quest, and is its own new story. Players still isekai themselves into the world and become Pokémon, going on adventures with their newfound guild mates! SFW ONLY

A deeper explanation of rules, related pages, and whatnot can be found here:
https://rentry.org/tmd2many_rules

>I'd like to participate!
Currently, we're at full capacity as far as threads on /qst/ are concerned. However, there's always the chance that space for another player may grow in the future, or that you simply wish to play outside of /qst/ and the quests hosted here. There are other ways to participate, about which you can learn and do here: https://matrix.to/#/#the-mystery-dungeons-2nd-edition:matrix.org

>Okay, now what?
After you've read up and familiarized yourself with the rules and setting, be sure to hop into the Element: https://matrix.to/#/#the-mystery-dungeons-2nd-edition:matrix.org. Everything that doesn't involve Main Quests occurs here and is helpful for coordination.

Character sheets and the guide to making them can be found here: https://rentry.org/tmd2many_characters

You’re somewhere familiar, that’s certain. What you’re not quite one-hundred-percent sure about is how exactly you ended up in this place. You don’t recall walking, nor anything to have prompted going wherever you are now. Something must have happened before there and now, a crucial something that you are clearly missing. It can’t be safe in here.

The darkness is unnatural. You’ll have to get moving in order to be able to identify where to go.
>You can move 6 spaces + an Action.
>You can convert your Action in 2 more movement spaces.
>Physical moves have 1-tile effective range.
>Special moves have 4-tile effective range.

There’s that aura moving and breathing throughout the surroundings. Without a doubt, this has to be a dungeon. You need to find the way out of here… but… still… how did all of you get here?

There are two passages between the dominating treeline, one heading East, and another going West. It’s deathly silent. You begin to realize that the ground and parts of the forest look ashen and scorched by a fire. Wasn’t…? No…?

"...Let's just find our way out. It's crowded in here, let's split up in teams."
She moves East 8.

Cubone mutters to himself, but he's quick enough on his feet to get going, fully aware that an unfamiliar location with apparent burn marks is a poor place to be questioning the whys and hows, heading four tiles east and one south, peering past the corner as the others make their way down the paths immediately visible to them in their confusion..

You find that the corridor is only wide enough to allow passage in a single file line. If you need to swap positions with someone, it might get a little tricky. Luckily, it seems Evan has stumbled into a much larger room... there... are ominous faces in the darkness.

What.

>>5855734

Matchia is the first to step through, spotting a narrow corridor formed by the trees, heading south. She can see it bend around the corner, heading eastward. Currently, there's not enough space to get past or really look through that well. Perhaps you should designate an order to this.
>>

"Damn it Matchia, out of the way!" Having to mind the order fucking sucks!

Wanting to stay with Clover Force, Wallis proceeds west.

She's too slow to get in attacking range. She throws up a Wide Guard for her West allies.

Rolled 3 (1d20)

>The west group
Evan quickly scampers across the clearing in the forest's dungeon, and you realize how much larger this area is. As everyone floods into the room and your vision clears the dark, you quickly realize whatever these things are, they definitely are not friendly or even Pokémon. Actually, they could be, but you're not certain. They look like shifting columns of darkness, with a wicked face peering through a shattered mirror.

Ishmael preemptively launches an Ember down the room, illuminating with fire. As it zips past the shadow-creature, you realize that the darkness is so deep it swallows even the light from the fire.

Wallis' Wide Guard washes over the group, but nothing happens yet. Brook braces.

>The east group
Files into the corridor, quickly finding it a bit cramped for maneuvering. Skitty's Foresight washes through her mind, and she feels a familiar, racing chill. A blast of air blossoms up right behind her, as the repressed feeling of that DREAM burdens itself in her thoughts.

>The west group
Evan attempts to look at them, but it's hard to really make anything out. They're nearly formless, aside from being an evil-looking cloud column with a face peering through.

Kaz doesn't see anything here.

Brook continues to hold his breath, waiting for something to happen.

Mohka attempts to intimidate the shadows, but it doesn't even seem to recognize anything different.

Ishmael darts past quickly, skipping along the forest floor. Wallis shuffles past, moving just as quick.

Angus and Darius begin assaulting the shadows, watching as the rocks practically clash against solid cloud. Plumes of smoke escape, darkening the room.

>The east group
Matchia can feel that there is something waiting around the corner, but she's not entirely sure what it is. There's an aura, but it's malformed. Corrupted.

Orner doesn't waste any time and shifts into attacking, slamming her tail into the shadow. It feels like hitting the surface of thickened honey, as her perception slows down and her breathing quickens. Seconds later, her move completed.

Espurr begins walking, but is blown past by a panicking Skitty, who crowds herself into the tunnel. They don't take this too lightly, and squeeze past, leaving Skitty to bring up the rear.

Spike rushes back to the first room, summoning ghostly energy to surround the shadow. It collapses and bursts, releasing a pervasive darkness in the room. You can see, past the worsening light, parts of the forest disintegrating and falling away into shadow. Grasped by the void.

Sagira makes a noise of dissatisfaction. "Then we must move quickly. Matchia!" Her head turns to the movement around the corner.

>The west group
Evan wastes no time in sprinting across the entirety of the room, scrambling with fear and panic.

Ishmael sprints down the entirety of the long corridor, flanked by the imposing ashen forest. Brook chases after him, darting deeper into the forest.

Darius pummels the darkness with his revenge-fueled assault. Kaz wheels up and slams down with a hefty chop, with enough force to shatter a rock. The shadow promptly erupts in smoke, covering the room in darkness.

Angus quickly picks himself up and launches himself as fast as his wings can take him, fluttering to the next... room.

Mohka slams it with his tail, sending it reeling backwards, right as Wallis blasts it with a Mud shot, shattering it into cloudy dust. The room doesn't get any darker than it already is.

Orner (followed by a curious Dustin) darts across the room as the world literally slips into the void. Her heart races as she enters the door and... into another darkened room.

>The east group
Matchia drops, lowering and pivoting on a single knee, waving past a limb before striking with her true intent! It's buffeted, but it doesn't show any sign of being hurt by it. You feel a cool sensation, like a draft of wind, flow over the limb you hit it with.

Sagira looks at Cubone. "Creatures of pure dark I find myself avoiding. And I would move if we were not constrained by our current circumstances." She aims with an Ember and fires, peppering the shadows with fire. It rapidly disperses, blasting the hallway with cold wind.

Spike can see that the darkness is creeping into the hallway.

Espurr notes the atmosphere is somber and unsettling. You hear an unnatural rumbling as parts of this world peel away.

An echoing voice whispers into all of your minds, dotting your thoughts. "Can you hear me? You must head... south... do not let the darkness..." It fades abruptly.

(im gonna ditch the map thing it isnt working here, im so very sorry for fumbling this session)

Groups West and East, scrambling down their own respective halls, find themselves wandering into the deepest and barren portion of the forest. A towering tree stands in the center of this spacious dungeon "room." In its trunk, a staircase of some kind has been carved into it, spiraling up and up, disappearing into the canopy.

Burnt logs and destroyed trees are scattered over the room, bridging gaps between the void where it has consumed and worn away the ground like a fading memory. Several of the void-like shadow creatures patrol the area, preventing any simple ways across. Considering the ground isn't entirely whole, you could use this to your advantage. Or you might find it your disadvantage.

Portions of the sky seem to have been chunked by the void, leaving behind floating gaps in the world.
>Take the first route, crossing the fallen trees. This one requires some measure of agility considering how little land exists to move on safely. The shadows seem primarily confined to the remaining land.
>Take the second route, following whatever land hasn't been eaten away by the void. This path has the most of the shadows crawling about.
>Take the third route, avoiding the shadows. Parts of the canopy, stripped of their leaves, appear to form a path almost straight to the giant tree. However, there's nothing to stop you if you fall. And if you fall... the only thing to land on is the void.

It'll take around two successful actions to get to the giant tree.

Ishmael attempts to launch himself from between the trees, clinging with his attack boosted hops. It's not nearly as efficient compared to solid ground, however. He does manage to clear the first set.

Matchia is less fortunate, immediately losing her footing and flopping onto the tree. Her breath catches in her throat as she nearly falls to the void. She'll need a moment to reorient herself...

Spike clambers across, keeping steady on the unusual paths. With the ominous silence, you can hear dirt crumbling and rocks shifting. You swear it might fall at any moment.

Mud splatters against the logs as increasing pressure bears down on the logs. There's a loud crunching that reverberates across the log. The both of you watch as it's reduced into a muddied plank mixed with splintered chips of wood. That made it much easier... but for how long?

From the sides, you can see more faces forming. Watching.

Angus begins flying, but he quickly realizes how difficult it can be to stop himself from crashing (or falling?) into the pockets of floating void. He swerves out of the way after his depth perception misjudged how far it had actually been.

Dustin encounters, much to his dismay, one of the shadows that hadn't been dispersed by Mohka's sweeping tail. He does have the option to run as fast as he can, however.

Skitty and Brook carefully step across the creaking branches, moving with utmost care. Orner, her own biology particularly conducive to this, steadily moves through the branch-paths.

Evan lifts himself into the trees before, gripping onto the branches. His own adrenaline causes him to momentarily teeter in place as his vines creep across with him, acting like his own living climber's rope.

Wallis is not meant for the trees, and it shows. Her body bumps and slips, and she's saved only by her reactionary speed, quickly wrapping her flat hands around a thick branch. She's dangling, suspended above the dark.

Baram Town is completely still today. Not for anything insidious; Clan Elders from all over Air Continent have organized a mass prayer to their Patron, The Spirit of the Free Sky, Rayquaza. This Twilight Syndrome plaguing everyone has grown far beyond anyone's control, and it would take a breakthrough heavier than any one Pokemon to start solving the affliction and its spread.
To that end, almost the entire population of Baram Town has migrated to The Dragonhymn, a holy passage not too far from the village...along with droves of Pokemon from all the nomadic clans populating the Air Continent.
Teams Stylish, Ruckus, Clover, Gildscales, and Stardust have all been contracted to participate in the ceremony, to deliver an unwieldy and massive offering to Rayquaza through the mystery Dungeon. It's about time to head out for your responsibilities, but on your way out you can still see a gang of dour-looking Pokemon resting at the Château's booths. Surface Skipper, his friends, and the bar's ghostly regulars are still ashen from an unsuccessful investigation into Twilight Syndrome, rewarded for their bravery with...the sight of Surface Skipper's mother attempting an assassination on her own child.
They all look unnervingly grim, and they're not at all up for conversation...but you have a job for the entire continent to get to.

At the entrance to the Dragonhymn, space is sparce. Those of you from worlds with Pokemon might still be impressed by the number of individuals present, only a handful of them familiar. This is a big event, it seems. Your badges are presented and identified, and you're let forward to the beginning of the dungeon, marked by a few posts. It opens with a deep, round fissure burrowing into the ground, as if a titanic weapon had burrowed or blasted a path straight through the land...but more noteworthy is the giant, gold-plated dish sitting in the middle of the road. It's near overflowing with goods, some discernible like pretty scarves, TMs, and others an imparsible masss of wheats, baskets and jars of exotic and shiny flora, and so on. It towers well over even Mohka, and the dish it's all set on has four handles to hold onto for...relative convenience. This must be the offering.

The mass makes a pretty exact conical shape and touches every corner of its platform, so it'll be pretty clear to All if any effects are missing from the gift by the end of your travel.

Time to head in...

Mohka looks over the offering dish, impressed at it's size.
"Well, ain't that a sight... No wonder these ain't held all to often, must take an age to accumulate all this... stuff."
>>
>>5863521
Wallis glances at the offering, but is preoccupied with feeling the wind. Her earliest memory is a tremendous windstorm, but... Could this place really be the source? She wears an expression of dread.

"Whew! That looksss... kinda heavy." Orner notices the group is lacking in the size department so she might have to put in some grunt work. "...Dammit."
>>
>>5863521
Matchia seems to just be taking in the sight.
>>
>>5863521
"How... excessive." Cubone seems to disapprove of the offering. Wherever his (or perhaps more accurately, the tribe's) values lie, it isn't in materialism, and he finds it grossly indulgent. He makes no further comment on it, but given his stature, he isn't going to be of any real use dragging it around, either.
>>
>>5863521
Spike blinks in surprise and awe at the tribute gathered. He feels an odd tingling sensation looking at it, like it has some significance beyond material wealth.

"Alright, who's lifting this? We can get two on each handle I think," he turns to Mohka and Darius who have proven stronger than average for their size.
>>
>>5863521
*Brook looks upon the offering for a moment, trying to see how many items on the dish he can actually recognize "not many" he thinks to himself before bringing his gaze over to the entrance itself*
*once facing away the wind constantly blows his scarf this way and that, it takes a moment to adjust it in such a way it doesn't end up blocking his view*

What a peculiar view. These valuables add up to more than Espurr's weight in gold, yet nobody is around trying to take it for themselves. Strange offerings for even stranger and unseen gods...

The tiny cat brings their focus away from it. Chances are, they have no shot at taking anything from it without consequence- it doesn't belong to them, anyway. They're no cat burglar.

They peer down into the hole in the Earth. Just how far does this rabbit hole go?
Time to go, I suppose.
>>
>>5863539
"You're gonna need a whole village ta lift this thing."
>Kaz presses a hand to the golden dish
"Even if this ain't solid gold, all a this stuff makes it weigh like, 10 tons. Gonna need a whole village!"
>>
"Plated. Pure gold wouldn't hold all of this weight. Probably." Pokemon make weird things. "Speaking of, if we're to get this to the peak of the dungeon...?" Cress grabs hold of one of the four handles, struggling to start dragging the massive plate.
The request to everyone should be obvious.

The dungeon is almost canyon-like, if not for the abundant short-grasses lining the path. Everywhere you look, perfectly circular holes in the stone formations whistle and wail with strong winds passing through them. In fact, they're strong enough for the currents to be visible. Fortunately they're tailwinds, but you'll be blown around if you're not weighed down or with a plan...
The myriad whistles from all the soundholes come together to form an omnipresent, solemn hum. It makes you feel accompanied by a whole choir despite the absence of civilians within, but that's neither here nor there.

This dish is going to need multiple Pokemon to transport, though. Cress and Darius are on two ends. It should only take about two more to get it moving, albeit slowly...
>>
>>5863548
"Well, let's have Mohka, Orner, Matchia, Darius, and you try lifting it- we can set it down if anything happens." Spike suggests.

"The rest of us will scout ahead to make sure the offering is safe."
>>
>>5863552

Seeing the struggle of the tallest members, Espurr doesn't bother helping push or pull the haul. They're easily the smallest individual here, so why bother?

Sagira speaks Espurr's mind. Good job, Sagira, asking the questions that need answers. This is going to be a tedious job for all those involved. They stand in one place, wandering off to follow the slow-moving stuff.

Darius, Mohka, Matchia, and Katherine pitch in to carry along with Cress. It's slow work, but it goes. Seeing Kath's stature, some of you might feel pressured to lift better than usual. Cress sure is...

>>5863565
The construct is heavy set, and the bearers move meticulously enough that only external factors should disturb the offering, but...it wouldn't take much of one.

"Agh. I'm not used to labor this heavy-anymore..." If the restof you could scout ahead and clear a path for us, that'd be great..."
The aforementioned path being an uphill slope, dotted with movement in the distance. Must be Pokemon, but the rest of you are going to be more capable of doing things about it than the bearers. They're kicking up a lot of dirt and dust, that may be a problem.

Moreover, behind you all is a flock of airborne Pokemon riding the tailwinds significantly faster than your group is moving. They look to be hungry Gligar, but they're not upon you yet. So much to consider!

Cress mutters a slew of swears seeing the slope like an oversized Yosemite Sam.

Espurr doesn't need any more encouragement to walk off ahead of the group, ahead of most of the others who also decide to scout ahead. The further they get from the payload, the lower the chances of one of their headaches causing the group to go back ten minutes of progress.

They use their familiarity with nature (which is admittedly not as high as it could be) to look for any signs of life nearby. Trees plucked clean of berries, snapped twigs, anything?

They don't notice the airborne mons behind the group...

The Shellos loose a pair of Chilling Water, but they collapse on the ground before they hit you. It's all spreading pretty widely over the ground and flowing towards you all, though...The Rolycoly look for direct attacks on you all in Rock Throws.
Tailwinds line the edges of the path forward, blowing hard enough to sling unprepared Pokemon forward, and bending pine trees forward. Some of them have shiny objects in them. Skitty flings herself into the tree sporting the dropped gummis. Brown, Grass, and Sky! Mind your inventory limit, unless you have a weird idea.
She lands pretty lightly too, not disturbing the bend at all. Very cat-and-not-humanlike.
>>5863660
Ishmael gets a scroll! It's not nearly as arcane or creepy as that first one, though. It's some kind of guide, displaying how best to take advantage of the most common body structures found in Pokemon. Your printrune is shaky, but pictures on the fire type sections are plenty helpful.
Ish got a Combat Manual!
That being said, your pluck was pretty careless. Taking the scroll unburdens the tree, catching and flinging you as it swings you far down the path and with the Zorua and Gligar. You land hard with 2 damage.

Half the bearers aren't ready for the turbulence. Turns out, it's faster than it looks and is quite loud inside. Cress steps well enough, and Mohka can catch the faltering balance with his wrist plates...but the extra effort slows everyone down more than hurries them along. So in summary...the Gligar will be upon your goods on their next turn. At least the winds lift enough that all five of you can fully rest. Tiredness won't be a problem, but the ferals' water moves are forming a stream that will...absolutely be a problem.

Somebody should do something about that, if not you all.

Espurr, falling at high speeds, is at a loss for what to do. Clutching the items against their chest, they try to think fast and grab onto something, but at this speed, it might be just as dangerous to catch a branch as it would be to hit the ground.
It's giving them a headache trying to think so quickly with the wind blowing through their fur...

There's nothing in the air or your landing site but your own psychic aura, yet you found yourself slowed down...

>>5863801
Meanwhile, an oversized wave covers the whole path! A content purr can be heard up ahead thanks to Storm Drain, but Coalossal is immediately knocked out by the wave. Rising water meets falling water at around Wallis's altitude, creating a lip that sharks the Gligar for 19 Damage each. The lot of the are knocked out following Sagira's chip, but the flowing water throws off the bearers. Mohka holds strong with his Protect, but he's now at the front of the charge; Cress, Matchia, Darius, and Dustin are all slipping and losing ground. The shifting balance throws Gold Scarves, Candied Cakes, Sourdough, and some other effects all the way down the pass, washed out of reach with the current.
Given the items stuck in the trees earlier, that's not an uncommon occurrence, but the sight still stings.

"Hmm-mmaaaighaieaieaieAYE!! Cress is struggling to manage her weight with hopelessly trying to keep water out of her vents. "Hold. Hold!!"

The wind geyser faces straight up, and is large enough to hold all of you and the dish in its circumference. The wall around the hole in particular has eroded into a half-circle surrounding the structure, having blown away the stone above it. There aren't any vines or trees to grab onto, but you do have an Evan.
The injured Gligar Spike abandoned to get back to everyone makes another pass to survey the offering, only to pass over the upward flowing wind...It's instantly shot upwards and out of your view by the current, well over the pass's peak. Actually, he might have gone high enough to leave the dungeon...!
So it's probably strong enough to carry the dish, but stabilizing the ascent is going to be another matter.

Gravity causes the geyser to quiet down. It isn't blowing nearly as hard or disorientingly, so when Evan jumps in, his ascent is gentle. Even if it were stronger though, he's still trethered to the plate.

Skitty is done taking a break and figures that she'll wait for the others to launch themselves upward before following them herself. Seems fun-- she's a cat anyway, isn't she?
>>
Seeing where all this is headed, Cress moves to walk the payload into the open air tunnel.
She's not sure what to do when her feet leave the ground, though.

>>5867512
And whoops, it's Darius soaring as well. Having misread, the GM allows Dustin to land squarely on his head, allowing him to take 0 fall damage.
It's kind of their whole thing.

The work is a veritable marathon (and quite dirty, but the mud, unlike waters from earlier is viscous enough to be bored into with hands as a climbing surface. It's obnoxiously slow, as well, but Cubone has found his way.

>>5867501
Much like Orner, who has transcended snakehood and begun wallwalking. She, Cubone, and Dustin are topside, and in safer fashion than anyone else. Give it a few more levels, and she may begin firing her essense from her eyes as well.

Mohka, Wallis, Cress, Matchia, Brook, Spike, Evan, Katherine, Kaz, and Ish have walked into the air tunnel. Technically, they're in freefall, but the wind current is keeping them relatively in place, with Evan ensuring the dish never topples. Once Gravity expires (or is dismissed), they'll be moving upward.

>>5867534
...Which would be now. Everyone holding onto the dish is suddenly flipped over as the pressurized wind intensifies, blown up and now holding onto the dish from above. It's about to turn over a couple times, but Evan with the help of walls has enough leverage to force the offere=ing to sit even as it rises.
Forward momentum from stepping into the current carries the dish out of the ride once it's at the top, allowing everyone holding on to break their comparatively short fall with the goods.

Aside from 8 damage Sagira finds that the peak is a titanic chasm, the with of which could rival a small lake. Like the smaller geyser you jumped into, air from tens of tunnels feeds all over the dungeon feWind billows and sings from a plethora of soundholes, creating a constant, solemn drone to occupy the loneliness up here. Above, a colossal column of clouds spiraling straight up into infinity contrasts the clear night sky. It's a little distant (and too large) to exist as a product of the activity in this dungeon, so this tower of clouds must be some other construct...
Anyway, on the opposite side of the chasm is a group of important-looking Pokemon, all speaking together. Some of them are reciting from long scrolls, others preforming elaborate gestures. There's Edler Seven Leaves the Breloom, a Dubwool, an Ekans worn by a bespectacled Krookodile, a Walrein, and plenty others.
Ah, you party has caught up to you as well. Darius lands next to you with 8 damage.

Done with their prayer, they all look towards you explorers and nod, prompting you. Considering how few things there are to interact with up here, it should be pretty clear what to do with the offering...

Some of the elders seem to appreciate your fervor, though it's hard to tell if they know how secular your motives are.
That Ekans is...not hard to get Wallis's read from and the hardness of Haxorus's stare and any other reactions to Orner's presence...is up to her to interpret/elucidate. Awkward.

A few still seconds later, the wide pit in this long, mysterious structure quakes. It nlows yet harder, the wind now disturbing even the fur and vision of you all who aren't standing inside it. Air rushes with supernatural strength, bands and wisps of royal violet energy snaking upward. Soon enough, all of the items you'd dumped within resurface and spiral upward as if caught in a tornado! They sparkle and disappear into the skyline represented by that tower in the sky. It spins and coils, almost seeming to turn the entire sky over with it; it's a sight to remember. Its disturbance seems to tear a hole in the clouds nearest to it...through which a meteorite of all things comes crashing down into the distance!!

...Or maybe it was a shooting star? Have the Clans' prayers been answered?

Whatever's happening here, there's nothing supernatural about any of it; it's only the rawforces of nature in the form of weather at work here. Sail might know that the Sky Tower is the resting place of Rayquaza, and as the Lord of the Sky, he could tear holes in the heavens to bring down foeign objects on a moment's notice. The Sky Tower is said to touch the edge of the Earth, and disturbances to it could bring all kinds of strange things to the land by 'opening the sky'. Cress had mentioned that all of the Clans on the continent had gathered to organize and watch this prayer event, so if anything were likely to make headway against the Twilight Syndrome, it would be that meteor.
...Though, Rayquaza has historically been depicted as very laissez-faire, and outside cultures-if they even believe he exists-even call him The Laziest God. So there will be doubt that this phenomenon is more a quirk of the Dragonhymn and the Sky Tower than His work, or that it will directly affect little without te Clans' input...
There is something calling out to Spike within that meteor, however, an arcane message. It echoes within his mind, an ethereal message from the unknown...
"Whoops! Watch out below, here I come! Wheeee!"

Elder Seven Leaves is rounding the chasm to approach you all, dragging a large sack of wealth behind himself. For your efforts, you've all been rewarded...
>50 Exp!
>65 Rank Points!
and...
>Enough P to distribute 500 to everyone?!
Well. There'd be more, but it hasn't escaped his attention that some of the space on that dish was then unfilled.
Though, Wallis's sacrifice doesn't go unnoticed. He recites a small blessing, and grants her a Brown Gummi from his own belongings...despite their previous encounter.
He's got scant few words for you, actually. The Breloom makes his exit.

They have no stake in whatever it is, and would rather not lose anything. Though, Espurr has no problem accepting this money. They need it a fair bit, actually. They... want to go back someplace safe and not elevated.

From there on, they stick close to Sagira for no particular reason.

Stepping out of the Dragonhymn mystery dungeon, you're spat out...thankfully close to Baram Town. To those of you familiar with its outskirts, you're actually significantly closer to town than the inhabitants and tribesmon from all over the continent praying outside the dungeon entrance; with haste, you'll be the first on the scene. Elder General Razor's entourage of Pawniard, Bisharp and Primarina himself aren't lagging too far behind, but more importantly, you have a home to check up on...

Panic and chaos are evident before you even enter town, with Pokemon running from eachother, in and out of houses and away from eachother. The Bisharp and Pawniard cells accompanying you seem to be spreading out to help the errant stragglers from...whatever Pokemon might be attacking, which means you all can afford to turn your attention to...

Chapter 8: Midday Dusk

Your temporary home is on fire! Dark blurs in the air hover erratically in every direction, occasionally stopping to fire off bursts of flame. They're the despondent ghosts from your last...depressing encounter?

Since the Château has entered line of sight, Primarina has been shrieking endlessly. Some of you might remember talk of a bedridden life partner of his living unseen in the bar & inn. Between the attackers accelerating the building's burning and the life inside, it seems there are multiple objectives afoot...assuming you'd like to do something about this crisis.

In which case, any of you may opt to stay outside and defend the home unrestricted.
Those who don't may deign to enter the burning Château and go for a rescue on Primarina's partner, Drifting Leaves. However, a raging fire is no place for life, organic or not. Fire and Poison types may enter unrestricted, as may those with at least one stat point in HP. Otherwise, you will continually take chip damage by being inside the searing heat and fumes.

Tonight's quest will cover the outdoor battle, and the indoor rescue will be acted out after once it's complete. Mind that once you commit to a side, you won't be able to switch, so...?

Cubone is... unusually dry about this sight. Or perhaps usually, but you think it might've affected him a little bit more. Maybe being somewhat despondent is how he 'handles' crises.

>I'm staying outside to defend the home's structure!

Skitty has taken a liking to risks after launching herself at the Dragonhymn. Going inside, however, is not a fun, adrenaline-filled risk. If anything were filled, it'd be her lungs with smoke. As such, outside it is!

Her hair thoroughly spiked up, she tries to take a breath to calm herself down. Which doesn't work.

"No losses on my watch," she says, a steely-look accompanying her gaze. "Stay alert and mind anything collapsing. If you feel it is too much, there is nothing wrong with retreating. No one gains anything from having to rescue one more in a crisis."

Espurr's open to ideas.
>>

"I would certainly hope so, otherwise this is gonna suck even worse for Primarina!"
>>
>>5884036
"Yeah, the fucking... dream things! That was what I was expecting!"

>>5884041
..."Um, hi." Skitty tries to shake her panic again to focus on maybe communicating a battle plan. "Would Gravity do more harm than good here? Slow them down a little bit so we can get a good mark?" She looks guilty. "I haven't practiced that much with moving around with your Gravity since that one time. Might hurt everybody else's chances, too."
>>
>>5884042
"Then let's get ta savin' the place!"
>>
>>5884045
Espurr isn't certain, but what they are certain about is the effectiveness of Gravity when used to bring others down. Anyone on the roof might take quite a tumble if they slipped and fell. They stare at the roof, and then the cliffside by the water.

They also happen to have a couple items. Hm...

Katherine, Brook, Orner, Ishmael, Mohka, Sagira, and Cress make a mad sprint indoors; time is of the essence. Hopefully their spot checks will bear fruit...later.

For all others, you're positioned more on the pathway to the bar when your way is blocked by a few familiar Shuppet and Sinistea. Their convergence looks more like coincidence than anything, though. Some are mouthing wordlessly, while others spin and flutter about. Given everything, you're sure they'll attack soon, though...

The air smells thickly of those scrap snap beverages that make the ghosts corporeal. It's pretty clear the smell is coming from casks strewn about the area, marked by black circles. If you can't hit ghosts very well or mind their superior movement range, It may be to your advantage to spread the powder within through the air to change your ability to Scrappy, or block their aerial movement. Once it's in the air, you may have to get creative about moving it, though...

Expect to be able to move (roughly) five character spaces per turn without extenuating circumstances. The ghosts...will have more.

ah, moreover, Spike moves North. His attack falls heavier than he'd expect, this mud-caked Shuppet is corporeal enough to hit with n=Normal and Fighting moves...

The other two Sinistea land a Hex and Psybeam, dealing 6 Damage to Angus and KOing Darius.

Primarina's song continues, carrying his hopes toward the building. His tones clear the surface of the bubble, allowing light to reflect off the orb almost prettily enough to appreciate mid-battle...almost. It should be ready to cross the bar & inn in a turn, but the singer's body is shaking from stress. It'd be ideal if he didn't take any damage at all...

Cubone can't afford to be thinking about the flavour, though! Not to mention, if the chateau burns down completely, there'd be no one actually capable of mixing it into a drink... Getting himself back on track in a flash, he only briefly looks around for more onlookers before helping himself to the keg and finding the Heal and Tiny Reviver Seeds... pocketing those, he takes another mouthful of powder to blast down the Shuppet behind the shack with an additional Water Gun!

Espurr has been out for several minutes by now. Slowly, they open their eyes, vision finding clarity as their purple pupils dilate. They can't muster the strength to move, but looking on at the chaos occurring before them, they get an idea of what happened.

A small line of red drips down their forehead, drying in their fur. Their head hurts in more ways than one, but the tension behind their eyes is a little softer than usual.

They've been left alone on the battlefield. Did anyone even notice? That's illogical, impossible. But their allies aren't even looking their way. Perhaps Espurr has made an error. A lapse in judgment. It might not be too late to correct your course, little cat...

But how? Hm.

It prevents the Pokemon from using its neck as a fulcrum if it wanted to...lick you, or something?

At a glance, one might think there's nothing greater going on in the minds of these Pokemon. As Brook draws in to attack though, he catches Shuppet's gaze for a second. In addition to alertness and confusion, there's something greater directing it all- a restlessness from which all the other emotions and activity extends. That restlessness grows with every inch Brook draws closer, and it's then it falls on him that Brook is fighting not just a disoriented Pokemon, but one hungry to survive.
For all of Shuppet's nonthreatening appearance, the deadly drive Brook senses is just intimidating enough to stall his attack. Shuppet fades out of range and readies his own...

Evan takes three damage from the surprise attack.

Oceanic Operetta begins to engulf the inn...
The bubble passes through like balloon over a needle in a magic trick. The flames are suffocated, and Primarina's voice gives away. The mass sprays fountains of water in every direction rather than exploding violently as one may have seen elsewhere, leaving the house intact. The skyward jets of water befall every combatant, raining just heavily enough to cure everyone's burns and awaken Angus. The waters evaporate quickly, enveloping the battlefield in a thin mist. It's just thick enough to obscure a jet of wood and projectiles from the Château. Was it your friends? Or just debris? Did they make it out safely in the chaos?

The subsumed Chateau took 40 damage over the course of the battle, leaving it with 66% of its structural integrity. The outside looks like it'll hold, burns notwithstanding. Whether internal collapses could have occurred...is something you'll have to find out this Saturday on the 13, at 6:30 CST.
Thank you for playing.

"Wallis, Orner, you two have water moves, can you handle the bar to be sure the alchohol doesn't explode in the heat? Cress, head to the rooms, I'm going to scout the office."
>Ishmael downs a bulwark seed, raising his defenses as he moves to the right staircase, hoping his small size and normal agility can get him through it
>>
While the battle outside played out...

The rest of you are indoors, looking for Primarina's life partner. Drifting Leaves, Bringing Wind is somewhere in this building, the structure of which should be old hat to you by now. North of the bar are the rooms inn guests like yourselves stay in, next to the kitchen. Towards the back of the temporary living quarters is a staircase leading up to yet more rooms for Pokemon more wanting for their own sleeping spaces, and a balcony overlooking the bar on the first floor. Also upstairs is Primarina's office, though none of you have ever seen the inside. The staircase to your right is a swifter way up there, but top use it you'd have to do something about the ceiling structure that's collapsed into the way...

The second floor is represented by the right side of this map, and the first on the left.
0ajsnh
The scale of this visualization is not quite the same as it was outdoors; players should expect to be able to move 11 spaces in a single turn. As the fires and damages to the Château rage on, you all build an impression that you'll get about 5 turns to do your work in here before you're at risk of an internal collapse. You won't want to be inside if and when that happens...

Those who aren't fire or poison types will be burned and also take 1 damage from smoke inhalation each turn, though surely supplies can be found somewhere in a hybrid restaurant.
On that note, don't fear for gameplay items your characters have in storage, as a mercy from myself. They'll be safe, and you can even use them if you make it to your dorm.

Assuming of course, you have that kind of time to spare.

Somewhere outside, you can hear a fairly crisp voice ring out...?
You're all a little too distracted to focus on it, though. There must be a lot going on outside, though, because a couple Pokemon have phased into the building. They look to have lost their intention once they realize rather belatedly that they're surrounded by fire.

The Rock Throw however, is looking pretty sorry. It couldn't be trusted to hold or bash through much of anything, almost even a squishy enemy...
To Dustin, a voice calls out. "Y-yeah. that sounds great, but my leg is a little...oww."
She's stuck under the table.

Rolled 3 (1d20)

This Oceanic Operetta is going to upend a lot of effects in here. If any internal damage is imminent, attacking the walls won't cut away at everyone's time...
Cress clears her mind and tunes out the Love Song(?) playing outside, the roaring fires, and her teammates' cries to form the most important Pyro Ball she's tried yet, punting her chargestone lamp straight into the wall...

"N-No...!"
Wallis can't help but meet the Shuppet's evil eye as it uses Hex on her. Woobat's eyes are covered, safe from the effect.
"Twilight Syndrome!"
She, however, has trained her Special Defense!
>HP: 7/23
>Wallis' Torrent!
"Step outside and you're gonna get it good! I can't trip up here...!"
She tries something she hasn't before- riding her own Surf for propulsion. With the extra strength from Torrent, she shoots for the nearest window after Orner, eating her Oran Berry automatically as she does so!

Sagira watches the water as it crashes and swirls against everything in the inn. The entrance is most likely impossible to access at this point. Her head darts to the side to watch it swirling around her, scraps of a plan trickling within her mind. With a final decision, she times the sweeping wave, snapping a fire-weakened railing for her own support.

The Fennekin can feel a chill as she rides the assaulting water, attempting to guide herself into the other rooms, searching for any sign of stragglers. Holding her breath, her eyes hurriedly snap around the water-logged surroundings, looking for egress. Without a moment of thought, she launches another Ember to summon a portal just outside before all the air is lost.

Pressing herself against the crushing weight of the ceiling, she's prepared to air-pressure bomb her way out.

Dustin and Orner pick up their effects (and passengers) and take the dramatic exits. The shattering glass lacerates them for 5 damage as they dive outside...

>>5890890
Wallis learns something new of her abilities in this desperate moment, that she can propell herself! A Torrent boosted Surf throws her several feet into the encroaching water bubble, close enough to swim out the door. Thankfully she can use her leg and tailfins with her arms occupied...

Wisps of fire evaporate into smoke and steam in proximity to Primarina's partner. It forms a small aura-like shell of gas backlighting Mohka's silhouette.

>>5890874
Sweet! Katherine finally escapes the bitter taste of smoke in her mouth, and not much more with that berry. She rolls along the wall to her escape...

>>5890885
The stone sparks on impact...with its own light radiation. Cress lets out a breathless wheeze seeing the fruits of all her Pyro Ball training in the woods outside town. Dropping the documents she stepped inside for, she throws a few basic kicks and headbutts into her room's walls while the Z move fully engulfs the building.

>>5890962
Sagira rides the momentum of the water coming inward to fly through (or make) holes in most of the second floor rooms. No sign of life...
Dragging in the last open air in the little dorm she's in, it respawns underneath her as a deeply pressurized bubble...than immediately explodes. The blast throws her up and through the roof just before Oceanic Operetta begins to collapse. She takes 7 damage on impact.

The water stings Cress, Ishmael, and Sagira's flame vents all over their bodies, from mouths and paws alike. Normally it might just tingle uncomfortably...but this an ultimate water technique. Jets of water relieve the bubble of its mass in every direction outside the château...while violently blowing around most of the loose fixtures and Pokemon inside. Cress and Ishmael take 33 damage from Oceanic Operetta...and 15 physical damage from churning current's impacts. Surprisingly enough, that's the safest dissolution of the Z move Primarina could manage. An explosion would have been...pyrrhic.

Orner and Dustin with a Sprigatito in tow manage to fall out of the building and the sphere encasing it before any more major damage can be done, though they may have to lower their profiles against the powerful sprays of water.

Mohka carrying a Shiny Primarina, Wallis with her "roommate", and Katherine manage to get away and out of range before any pins can drop, though they're a little lost among the concluding chaos outside. The Ghostly stragglers are being dealt with, and then they'll have their praises sung and them some. That's all of the civilians inside, rescued!

Sagira is flung out the roof, landing on the upper terrace above the Subsumed Château before she can have any chance of falling too hard. She'll roll quite a bit on landing, though...
>>
And that's the story of how a party of relative strangers came together to save everything Host Primarina holds dear. Read and write all about the follow up this Tuesday on the 16th at 6:30 CST.
Rewards for the quest coming then, too.
