You are still William sparred with self-lighting firefighters, beat the shit out of the voices in your head, and now preparing to go back to university that descended into a multi-way gang fight.
>>
>>6147523

Thoughts drift between William’s head as his fork taps against his dinner plate to make a small clink sound as he thinks. Trying to think of Hellscream’s deeper motives as he watches the steam rise from the cooked chicken in front of him. The dining room is filled with light brown wood furnishes and several seats with curtains of red and black coating the walls. With a few maids standing at attention with their eyes closed and arms crossed over against their lower stomachs awaiting further commands. Taking a breath as William tries to sound out his question to his host to get more insight to this deal.

“So shapechanging to get High Ring protection to avoid being jumped?”
“No, none of my agents will help but at the very least my spell will make sure you don’t kneel over after a fireball or two punches.”
“I am not that frail.”
“Yes you are. You refuse to convert but with the spell’s magic it will give you health padding and a magic reserve to escape from a fight as level 10 or above mages will be running around the area.”
“They have the mages for that?”
“And some reserves as this is the first time in a while where they have an actual reason to throw down fights with other mages and excuse it as territory control rather than grudge matches. Which will also flare up fights to go even harder if they bring in level 20s too.”
“Couldn’t I just use Prisma or Animus to hide behind as meatshields?”
“Why would Animus help you out? And for Prisma after their week trial ended they will demand the same thing or more aggressive suggestions. Hell I assume the reason none of them hunted you down right now is that they are scrambling for control first before looking into their candidate.”
“Any other side effects I might have to deal with the shapechange?”
“It's a spell why wo-hmm, okay I forgot the spell only has an hour duration and can have a 50% failure chance if someone throws a tier 9 counterspell on you. So I have to… I can try to make an auto shapechange trigger when you get hit but you still would die from a surprise fireball.”
“Why does everyone like that spell?”
“It is a classic for a reason and well known. Another thing you can do is I cast the spell as soon as you enter Astra and you just have to stay inside the school for an hour and head out when attendance gets called.”
“Sounds simple enough.”
“These are mages they will not be simple.”

Can Rose help us out here. I don't want to reject Hellscream without knowing Rose's options.

We can't use our cards at school so we either have to hope rose has something or get that trigger spell.

What's Hellscreams game here? What does this say politically or is she trying to cause a shift in Wills mind?

We refused shapechange before for the animus deal but it's starting to look like we might be forced to do it due to pragmatism but how will that effect the character?

Damn these low insight checks. The problem with going with Rose is it brings up questions on how we did it. Also we'll still have to deal with Prisma with next to no backing. We can also use this to fight openly. The mage armor is still broken and our rebel gear isn't supposed to see use in public.

My worry is two fold, how this may change the Mc and what Hellscream is using this to convey.

“Ugh, fine I will take the shapechange trigger spell for another safety net for tomorrow.”
“Finally, it only took a small war and prodding to get you to accept it.” Adds Hellscream as she motions for a maid to fetch an item.
“I thank you for the concern but I think I can manage. Can’t be too bad since I will mostly hide using the Prisma cloak.”
“Faerie Fire and other workarounds do exist for invisibility, polymorphs, and general tankiness.”
“They do?”
“Of course. Everyone is a mage and will have their own counter to everyone else’s specialization with their own bag of tricks and gimmicks. So just keep your head down and avoid getting killed and kidnapped by anyone and save your spells for counterspells or misty steps”
“Don’t you mean killed or kidnapped?”
“They can skewer your heart and bring you back with revival spells. They just need a piece of you to recover but the pain will still be remembered.”
“Okay so I should avoid spending too much time in Astra and get out as soon as possible to avoid all that bad shit.”
“I do recommend that course of action.” States Hellscream as the maid returns back to present the spell safety net to William.

Turning his head to see an item in the shape of a glass ruby with sparks of electricity zapping across the inside of its core. Red streaks painting the insides in a storm of light with fractures spread across its surface awaiting activation at the slightest damage. A small hand sized gem able to be stored on William’s body easily without looking too out of place or easily hidden inside a cloak for further security.

“That is some fine craftsmanship in under an hour?”
“Well two hours but thank you for the compliment.”
“Only someone blind would not notice the personal touches added to the spell. A crimson hue cut with the utmost precision to have the smoothness of faces while still maintaining its structure to activate the spell on a hair trigger.”
“The fracture lines look distasteful but triggerability was needed over form.”
“Which still took skill to not break apart at every tap with the added lighting affect trapped inside. Looks like something made from a high quality jeweler.”
“Aren’t you a flatterer? So what is the reason for this random praise?” Asks Hellscream with a small smile on her face as she sips her wine.
“Well considering I am in the presence of my gracious host there is something I would like to know more about from your study.”
“What would that be?”
“What is with the Demonology book with three titles?”
“Ugh, history of all things? Not even the fairy one?”
“Well its important to learn about the history of my host since I barely know your name and class type.”
“It's nothing special so I will try to get a quick summary out. So the dawn age of demons started around 350 thousand years ago more or less with the new gods rising up after the wars in heaven waged between the old gods and their favorite races.”
“You have books from that time?”
“No, as far as my family line can tell, all of history was lost when the old gods fought each other until their bodies were broken and their pet races scattered. That basically cleared the way for their children and new minor gods to branch into the void to carve their own slice of the world in their image and to reunify their chosen races to fix what was lost.”
“Must have been a very big mess living in that time.”
“Pretty much as entire cities were wiped out, continents shattered, and the magic leylines going out once from all the god level spells being tossed around. So about one hundred thousand years spent on endless wars as godly magic revived entire populations, counterspelled city wide rituals, banished armies, and erased oceans of blood. Made what should be small, short wars take centuries to break and one minute to fix.”
“That long?”
“It was very bad from what I could skim, forcing all the gods to have a much more depleted state from fighting for so long. Ended up causing something called soul burning where a soul is pushed across death and life so much that they started breaking from the stress and the war. Forced the entire old patheon into a ceasefire only because they pushed their bodies too hard and committed to a decisive battle that killed them all in a mutual brawl. So the god kids and new minor gods spent the next one hundred thousand years searching for their scattered populations across several dimensions and guide them into rebuilding.”

part 1
>>
>>6149784
“Well at least the new gods learned from their mistakes from experiencing first hand the cost of god wars.”
“Ha, nope. The old gods made the first war in heaven and the new gods wanted to avenge their parents so they started the second war in heaven also known as the age of ruin to the demons. They originally hoped a surprise attack would end the war faster.” Chuckles out Hellscream as she remembers the history lessons.
“So it was a much worse time that almost broke the world?”
“Nope. The new and minor gods were much weaker than the old gods and had less god magic to throw around making the war stall a lot longer as they could not fix all their mistakes. So they have to treasure their power and population as they didn’t have infinite retries to carry their inexperienced command leading mortals.”
“A meatgrinder happened since no one was strong enough or confident enough to take a frontal battle?”
“Pretty much until someone cracked necromancy and got a free army to help turn the tide and lead to the continent being shattered and allowing the current new nation of Ashyn to rise. Known as the age of Ash to the mages and the age of ruin for the demons still as the pantheon committed to one final battle before they started to run out of embers.”
“You think they would have stopped before they were out of juice.”
“Yeah? They are gods so they think very highly of themselves. So another truce but this time they aren’t dead so they can focus on rebuilding again and outlawed gods from walking on the planet again as two wars in heaven amounted to nothing and almost shattered the planet. Now the next one hundred thousand years they just guide their favorite mortal races to try and outcompete each other hoping their chosen species conquers the world under their name to earn the title of the overlord of the new pantheon.”
“Wait, this is still the age of ruin and not desperation?”
“Yup now without a god’s in person guidance all the races fell into infighting to lead their newly freed tribes in their personal vision which made civil wars a requirement to survive. For demons at least they attempted to expand their domains for more war material with their newly acquired free will from the lack of godly control. This eventually got them to invade the elven, kitsune, mage, and fairy lands which all retaliated hard as they all had a reason to unite their civil war factions against the other.”
“So they were hungry and that is how they got to the desperation age?”
“Wrong again. No, the other races got paladins while it was not godly intervention as they merely borrowed power; it was still enough to make the rest of the gods angry to direct their chosen races to exterminate the demons. Now without god tier revival spells and defenses it cut the demon population from a healthy three billion to two hundred thousand over another one hundred thousand years more or less."

part 2
>>
>>6149785
“No wonder it was the age of desperation.”
“Elves invented the green flu, mages leveled cities, kitsune could assassinate leaders easily, and paladins just lock demons down. Then at one point some kind of mushroom deleted the capital and forced the rest of the demons to take human forms to avoid extermination. Even then it was not enough so our god offered its name and power to be erased as long as his race gets spared.”
“And the god just assumed they would honor the deal?”
“It was that or watch his race get erased so it didn’t have much of a choice.”
“What happened after?”
“The age of ruin ended, the god is gone, and the demon race lost their true original forms. So they didn’t keep their word and no one knows if our god is dead, imprisoned, or worse.”
“So what about now?”
“Well we are now in the age of noon year 140,154 After Ash and so far the races are still vying for control demon numbers are higher than before but not too high to avoid triggering another crusade against us. Some minor wars and set backs with the other gods knocking Ashlyn down for a few centuries before everyone gets back up to do the same thing. It is like watching a clock at times.”
“And this is the quick summary?”
“There is a lot I had to skip from the spontaneous existence of fighter classes, necromancy, megaspells, leyline blackouts, and the horrors of the green flu.”

“Okay that is a lot of history in one lesson but I think its time to sleep. So I will see you after school if I survive.” Adds William as he gets up from his chair.
“You better as I don’t want to waste more time picking out another candidate. I may have the a long lifespan but I can’t be in Astra forever.”
“Sure, I won’t disappoint. Goodnight Hellscream.”
“Night, William.” States Hellscream as she downs the rest of her wine as the maid begins cleaning up.

Walking through the hallways as William goes through the motions of a quick shower as he jumps into his bed ready for the next day. Opening his eyes to a familiar classroom with Willow sitting on top of a desk with her desk crossed and a hand under her chin as she extends her hand forward. Becking William to come at her as she sits unmoving and silent on a teacher’s desk awaiting for violence to erupt.

“Nah.”

A look of confusion washes over Prisma’s face as William straightens his back and leans backward as his body falls to the ground as dark corners of his eyes cover his vision. Feeling the wind coil around his body as his legs jump from the sensation of vertigo overtaking him as he wakes up in his bed again. Immediately getting ready for the day ahead as his hands hold a slight tremor as he stashes away Prisma’s cloak into his jacket. His heart beats hard as he puts on Hellscream’s commissioned armor as the tingling of the glass ruby burns his pocket awaiting activation. Giving one more look into his phone to check that he still has everyones number in case he needed to call in anyone else for back up. With a sigh William makes his way to school walking, travelling by train, and hiking into the forest like he did before.

Crawling along the forest canopy past brush, broken twigs, and dirt as William steadies his breath to avoid making the smallest of sounds. Spotting several mages rushing into the school as flashes of teleportation magic lit up the area as more mages rushed to Astra. Gone are the relaxed walks of last week only to be replaced by vicious glasses as they eye their rivals before breaking line of sight to join up with their own factions. Thoughts begin swirling around William’s head as he tries to decide how he will work through the class day. Trying to stay in the lower class levels and get out after attendance, link up with Holly or Lora for better meatshields, or break the ruby and hide within High Ring groups to cover his class requirement.

-Sneak into a low tier class and get out as soon as attendance is taken. Possibly low level fights.

Looking across the area as William spots a few ords making their way to the school with a look of dejection and fear in their faces as they drag their feet to class. Every single ords knowing how dangerous the fighting will be if they accidentally get caught up in a fight. William’s fingers tap against the ground as his thoughts roam over using the Prisma cloak to investigate the rune knights for a day before shaking his head. Not fully confident in hiding from the anti-magic faction and instead focusing on avoiding getting into a brawl. Getting up from the ground as he rushes toward one of the closests classes he can find as he passes through the doors. Seeing the once pristine gray hallways are now covered with scorch marks from jets of flames being spilled in all directions. Pools of dried blood staining the ground with drag marks lining the floor from people either dragging themselves to safety or thrown across the floor before splattering against a wall. Tiles and walls broken or cratered hard enough to leave body sized dents in marble and stone with long thin gouges scattered across the ground. With even pieces of skin, flesh, and a severed arm left behind on the battlefield and the occasional lump of meat just scattered across the ground that looked less of a clean cut and more of a pummeling.

Already sounds of fireballs shake the ceiling as glass in the distance as cracks form on the ceiling from a heavy thud echoing in the floor above. Flinching at the strength, William quickly hugs the wall as other ords try to run toward the safety of a class to avoid a collapsed hallway. Steps echoing across the hallway as William feels the weight of his steps announcing his presence to the school as his eyes scan for any sudden surprise attacks with his ears straining to pick up any whistles of blades, stomps of a run, or the crackle of magic burning in the air.

Pushing himself faster as he faces his shoulder into a door to avoid being caught out in the open hoping the mages will distract each other and ignore him. Stepping into a classroom as he keeps his head down to avoid eye contact with anyone as he picks a seat in the back as he feels multiple eyes boring into him. Gritting his teeth as he pushes down his panic to focus on taking his seat before looking up back to the class door title to know what specialty he walked into. Only for a hiss to escape from his mouth at seeing the Conjuration class with a class full of Animus students with a few ords hiding in the corners to avoid notice.

With William spotting a familiar wolf that once gutted him a week ago. Still wearing the same blue jacket and white shirt with the same look of contempt on his face as he casts a sending spell before staying in his seat as the teacher begins announcing the attendance and beginning the lecture. With the wolf getting up as multiple other Animus approach his area as William inspects each of his mage threats around him. Spotting the wolf moves a bit slower than what William remembers as his steps slag under his weight as if he is weaker or slowed. Noticing a rhino type with thick skin and a horn on his nose that looks like he can take a beating, eyes glance along on a snake type Animus coiling around the rhino for support. With a tiger and hyena student also pulling up the rear as they watch the windows and doors.

“About time you showed up runt. The boss wants a report on what you have been able to gain from Prisma. If it's not good enough, or lacking then a punishment will be issued for future motivation.”

“Well Prisma did take me to a cafe that they liked to visit often enough an-.” Adds William as he notices the Animus students staring him down as his eyes glance to the door.
“That is useless, why would some random cafe matter when Lora needed actual useful information?”
“Let me finish.”States William as a quiet barely audible growl hisses out of the Animus wolf as he glares at William before motioning to continue.

“Now Holly, the leader of Prisma, led me to their cafe that also had Animus students involved.”
“What? Did they subvert a few of our agents?” Asks the tiger Animus with worry lacing his voice.
“Can’t be as we greater restoration them.” Adds in the rhino.
“Could be clone spells to bypass our normal protections.” Hisses out the snake Animus.
“Yes, multiple animal types, Prisma mages, and a very well trafficked area with their members. I do not know how they recruited them but being a nerve center for them can easily cause damage if attacked and picking off a few mages.”
“Okay, runt so that is useful information. At least the boss's chance on you didn’t get wasted. I will let her know and see what she can do with the information and contact you for any future tasks.”

A few more seconds of silence pass as the Animus students begin dispersing as no further hostile action is directed at William. Keeping his body tense for a sudden attack or surprise interrogation as he watches the windows and entrances for an hour never once letting his guard down as class finishes without interruption. As soon as the clock chimed the end of the class all the ord students rush for the exits as a few pile up against the door as they trip out of the door as another student opens a window and jumps out of the room.

[Alert feat]

Taking one more look around the room before letting his guard down as he freezes up feeling the hairs on his neck tingle in danger. A building pressure pressing down on him as something is going on as William sees no other enemy mages inside the room as the Animus mages just hang around for a bit as they exchange notes. Eyeing the door and window to see nothing is blocking his escape while the wolf mage is huddled around his friends as William tries to think on what to do.

Feeling the weight of danger pressing on his head William glances at the open door and decides to rush the window. Remembering the hallway damages and scorch marks left behind being enough of a warning to go for a different exit as his hands reach for his missing gauntlets. Only to feel fabric remembering they were damaged and still needed time to be repaired as he takes a breath and tosses himself out of the window. Tugging at the Prisma before thinking twice and saving the spells for later. Glancing upward toward the classroom’s ceiling as fractures spread around a circle as dust and pebbles drop from it as the entire ceiling rushes down. Jagged rocks, desks, chairs, and tiles drop from downward as it slams against the students. A sharp rock slamming into the rhino’s shoulder as he drops to one knee. The snake Animus having a desk slam into their head as it deforms from the force as it drops. With the tiger Animus getting an arm broken in two from poor positioning for reaching for his notebook as the spell popped. More rubble rains down on the Animus students as they get buried up to their waist as blood, bone, and torn skin leaves a bloody ashen mess behind.

Leaning against the outside of the wall as William peaks inside to see small green pinpricks of lights to begin glowing and flowing along the wall. Rapidly etching a tree as a small break pierces through the wall as a small luminescent sparrow spirit pushes itself off the wall as its leaf-like wings flutter gently towards the ground chirping its song. Taking a few seconds to register the room before beginning to vibrate as it prepares to charge at the Animus students for emergency healing. Fluttering its wings a bit more ready to move only for a heel to slam down on it as a counterspell sigils glows on her foot as the sparrow’s chirping is silenced. Inspecting the new student wearing a lab coat with a black dress underneath and some kind of ID card on her chest as she inspects the area.

“Now do die quickly so I can return back to more important matters of scrubbing this waste of runic materials.”

The rubble shifts as the wolf Animus shakes off the collapsed ceiling with his jacket torn, a bleeding head, and a few broken nails falling off his hand as the rest of Animus' students also recover from the ambush.

“I am surprised a lab rat knows what scrubbing even is. Thought that would be an ords skill only. Now ritual cast Healing Spirits upcast 4!”

A sudden green flash spreads across the room as more tree etches come into existence as more green sparrows crawl out of the walls ready to heal their masters. All the while the lab coat student wears an unimpressed face as embers begins sparking along the tips of her fingers as she prepares her counter.

Only for the silence to be broken by the first lab rat as she yells out “Dragon’s Breath upcast 4” as a spark of flame flares on the tip of her thumb as she takes a deep breath and bites her finger before pulling it away. Scratching her nail along her upper lip as an orange light glows harshly ready to purge their enemies in front of them.

Only for the green sparrows to fly across the room to heal their masters and return peeled skin back to their place as blood seeps back into their bodies. Bones and skull fragments leaping back into their hosts as snaps and grinding bones reknit themselves back into shape with rubble fragments being pushed out of their body as the sparrows are already repairing the damage their masters sustained. With a flick of their hands the Animus students all pull out small arrowheads from their pockets as every single one tosses their weapons into the air as they yell out Conjure Barrage. With the fastest casting barrage from the wolf being sent out first toward the floor above as he ignores the lab rat in front of him. Directing his spell above him to reach his victims as dozens of arrowheads split apart into a storm of gleaming arrows ready to pierce his enemies. Only for counterspells to immediately trigger as tendrils of static to whip out and grab the spell and rip it apart turning the hail of metal into a single arrow head as it slams into a wall. A laughter prepares to escape from their mouths before more Conjure Barrages and Dragon’s Breath roar throughout the room as elemental attacks could not stop all the arrowheads raining into the ceiling.

Steel rain clicks against stone as screams echo above their heads as more arrows are launched upwards with the lab rats scrambling for cover from the tide of steel. Lighting shot downward to paralyze students, fire scorching hair and skin until it was raw and bleeding, with puffs of green smoke choking Animus in exchange for sending walls of arrowheads to tear into flesh and magic robes. Fingers chopped off, skin ripped off across faces, and one unlucky Coven getting both of her eyes gouged out from arrows as she screams before disappearing in a flash of light. With Animus counterspells also flaring to life to eat targeted attacks to keep them standing for a few seconds longer to launch another Conjure Barrage at their enemies.

Spells continue being thrown at each other only to have more lab rats drop to the ground before flashing away as Animus students drop to the floor only to get back up as the healing sparrow keeps picking up injured students to continue fighting. The intense violence sends errant arrow walls and spells toward William as a lighting arc slams into the wall next to his head and jumps around zapping his head only for William to flinch forward to move away from the attack. His hand pulling toward his cape as his trace mana recognizes the danger and activates its protection to let a shimmer rise in front of him blocking the lighting. Taking a moment to try and recover only for several arrow heads to slam into his neck in between the shield and wall gap as an intense bloom of pain forces William on his knees. Taking a breath as he rips the arrows out and feels around his neck only to realize the arrows pierced his face instead saving him from a bad injury.

Rubbing the blood off his jaw as William presses his hand against the wound as the warm crimson fluid stops leaking. Already feeling the skin swelling a bit to stanch the bleeding as he focuses on the battle for more information when he faces his own enemy mages in the future. Peeking back into the room to see a devolving bloodbath as a lab rat thunder waves a piece of the floor from the second floor into the ground somehow missing every Animus below them. More lab rats firing off cantrips as Animus burns their reactions to raise up counterspells as waves of static reach out and crush hostile magic. With the green sparrows zipping across the room ensuring any damage taken is immediately healed up as blood lurches across the ground and back into its hosts. Every Animus rushing behind and under desks and rocks trying to avoid getting hit from the high ground as more debris and spells are thrown at them before tossing Evard’s Black Tentacles into the ceiling.

Shadow tendrils exploding out of stone as they whip and strangle the Coven witches having to fight from multiple angles. Tendrils coiling around arms and snapping them like toothpicks as pierced bone rips through their skin, legs bent from a solid wack sideways, as their vision gets blocked from being pressed on all sides. As more of their numbers drop from the sheer weight of spells being thrown at them until the survivors point their hand down and cast Erupting Earth.

Immediately William tosses himself to the ground as the earth shakes for a second before rupturing apart. The outer stone walls explode outward as marble, stone, tile, and glass come apart like a firecracker scattering their materials into the soft ground outside. Rocks, dust, and glass covers William as he buries his head under his arms to avoid damage as the shock wave passes above him. Feeling and hearing Animus bodies diving out of the windows as they roll with the momentum to let the earth guide their bodies with the flow rather than try to tank the force head on. Dozens of Animus mages scatter around the area as the runic spells on the walls get shattered into small glow sticks as magic fades from the surface. Breaking apart Astra property enough to see the hallway wall has also been broken down revealing a circular orb with a small storm inside as well as a pitch black center as it hums in power.

“Warning Astra property has been damaged. Local Rune Knight detachment will prosecute all agitators. Do not resist.”

Fear washes over all the mages present as Coven mages attempt to get their teleportation spells ready as Animus mages look for the closest treeline as they take a breath ready for their run. Space warps in six places as light bends in front of everyone in a wave-like pattern before a bright flash of green blinds everyone as cries echo in the open air classroom. Six knights wearing bloody stained armor with nicks, cracks, and dents covering their entire equipment with only their swords being the only thing that looks well maintained. Standing in a two by three formation as the front line pair hold short swords and bucklers with the pair behind them keeping their fists raised toward his cheeks as the last pair is scanning for threats across the area.Silence descends across the open air classroom as everyone freezes in place waiting for who to break the tension first.

Only for William to spot something much worse due to his familiarity with his new faction and from Rose’s warnings. Striker equipment as each knight carrying a backpack and waist pockets for easy potion access as cables, armor adjustments, and a buzz of magic hums in the air as they stand vigil and tense for a fight to break out.

The bloodlust leaking out of their gazes as they don’t see any of the mages in front of them as a threat but only as prey and victims.

Eyes zip across from the rune knights, Coven, and Animus mages as William tries to scan for an escape from this killzone as ideas race through his head for a moment. Feeling a drop of blood drip from his jaw he gets his idea as his fingers into his jaw for more blood as he traces a thaumaturgy spell on the ground. Muttering out the correct sequence as he feels a bit of exhaustion shaking his body as imaginary lines flow in front of his vision. White lines coiling underneath the ground of the rune knights as William reaches out a finger as he starts tapping on the lines. Forcing out a small harmless tremor to shake the knights as they immediately react as two of the buckler knights pull out counterspell magic to break the spell affecting them.

“Erupting Earth! Counterspell uptier three!”
“Suspects resisting activating subjugation protocols!”
The four other knights raise their fists and squeeze them as a shudder and a sense of energy fills them with confidence before moving onto their next action. Digging into their packs as they throw glass cylinders with a swirling green fluid pulsing against its containment. With all the mages in a panic as they try to increase the distance as two vials race towards both factions to catch as many mages in the line of fire. The glass flies across the air as they are thrown at expert level precision at jagged rocks with all the mages throwing out counterspells to break the enchantment of the spell. Only to witness the counterspells doing nothing more than adding faint cracks along the container. Every spell failed as terrors spread across everyone’s faces as the cracks on the glass turned into a spiderweb of fractures as it lightly tapped against a broken rock before exploding in a plume of yellow-green noxious fumes. Fumes rapidly spread across the ground as mages choke on the poison air as it rolls along the ground as Coven mages begin vomiting out mouthfuls of blood. Eyes streaming tears of blood as many full collapse where they stand with their bodies unable to teleport out from the sudden death of their owner.

With even Animus mages also dropping to the ground as they are hit with the same plumes of poison only with the notable difference being the slow creeping gas crawling toward William’s face. Forced to take a deep breath as William flinches away from the gasses as they reach within five feet of his face before fading out of range as the gas moves southward from a gentle gust of wind. More blurs of motion grabs his attention as rune knights rush across the Animus group as swords and spells rip into the animals. Limbs torn off with an upward swing of a sword as a buckler snaps upward to caved in someone's face as blood and teeth get knocked out. Moving a bit too fast as the knights trip over a few jagged rocks before twisting their body’s fall into a roll as they thrust forward their swords through more mages.

Turning a small failure into an adequate attack as they continue pressing into their victims as more blood and intestines are spilled into the ground. As Animus mages die by their sword too fast and easily due to the lack of their rune healing sustaining their attack on Coven as the knights take a look at their massacre.

“Well damn we should have avoided killing them so hard.”
“Eh, it's fun and plus their tuition pays for the revival scrolls”
“True, okay we will have to call in the golems to luggage duty because I am not staining my armor again.”

Being stuck under rocks, William watches as the rune knights turn their heads toward a fireball explosion on the second floor of the building in a different classroom. Cracking their fingers first as they teleport out of the area as Astra golems walk into his view to recover the bodies of the mages and their limbs before dragging them back into the school. Lumbering their way to and from the broken classroom as they begin searching for bodies to recover as they begin cleaning up the mess.

Seeing six golems begin rifling through the rubble for corpses as they spread across the area following some kind of search protocol. Deciding he doesn’t want to be involved with whatever they do to the corpses William waits for golems to turn their backs toward him as two others carry a pile of bodies toward the insides of the school as two other golems appear to push the rubble toward the walls as mending spells coil around their arms. Slowly pulling bricks toward the wall for repairs as they hold their hands outstretched fully focusing on their job. With a deep breath William pushes himself off the ground as rocks crackle against marble as his heel turns his entire body toward the treeline. Just a quick run to get him out of Astra and back into the safety of the outside world as he begins to push his legs forward only to hear a pop behind him.

Knowing an unnatural sound is coming from behind him he clenches his fist as his left hand reaches for his cape to cast shield as a sharp tingling arrow stabs into his shoulder blade. Cold metal slicing deep into his shoulder as a harsh warmth blooms inside his flesh as the sharp pain subsides. Knocking him into the ground as he rolls with the force as dirt and dust slams into his face as skin burns from the friction. Rolling along his side as William gets back up with a weight on his back to face the golem face on as its rust colored body and glowing orange eyes burn with magic. Already retracting its extended arm that closes up an opening as its other arm slides a large sword into its hand as it prepares to chase him down. Beforing giving a quick glance to his back to see the arrow’s shaft still vibrating and stuck in his shoulder as he wonders why he got healed. With the other golems ignoring or not noticing the fight as tense seconds stretch out the silence before it announces its intentions.

>-4HP from arrow hit and gained 8 HP back

“Ani-error-Coven mage further punishment will be issued due to resistance. Comply now and only two limbs will be broken.”

Finishing off its statement the iron golem brings its sword up in a defensive posture as it holds its action as it brings its hand to the side of its face before quelching it into a fist as it watches William.

Like I'm confused asf. Ords get caught in mage fights all the time and we know they don't get revived. You telling me golems murder fleeing ords for no fucking reason? Like there'd be 0 ords left in this school if the golems just murdered them all after every mage fight. OOC
The golem is programmed to attack anything that gets back up as it assumes its a mage playing dead. As the normal mage would avoid fighting rune knights and much rather risk golem fights instead. If it was an ord it would expect them to be dead, dying, or not there.

Also the university cut costs on downloading the entire student database into each golem and much rather use if code statements rather than remember all its current students. Its why it thought William was a Animus before correcting to Coven as it did not see animal features.

>>6159996
Gritting his teeth as William stares down the rusted golem as his heart thunders inside his chest as his eyes scans the plain. Seeing the other golems not bothering to even look at his direction as the singular hostile golem chose not to run him down immediately. Thoughts race through William’s mind as he decides to avoid capture and losing his other backup spell too as he glances at the treeline being only one hundred feet away as he takes a breath as he takes a mental once over to check that he still got a lot of energy and vitality to survive the run.

Kicking against the ground as he spins his body around again as his shoulder screams in pain as the arrow digs into his flesh and muscle. Poking the back of his lung as he feels it ripping into his organ as the smell of iron and rust exits his nose as the ground shifts under him from the amount of force he is putting into his limbs. Like a spring William begins to leap across several feet per lunge as his legs push rather than pull his body forty feet toward the treeline. Feeling the air rush below him as his cape billows through the wind as he peeks behind himself to see the golem release its hand and announces Shocking Grasp. Already a sharp tingle seizes his shoulder as his right arm as sparks burn the ozone behind him and inside his flesh. Cooking his blood, muscle, and hair in a disgusting smell of cooked meat as his arm goes slack for a moment before regaining functions.

[William cannot take reactions this turn. -4 HP from grasp and -1 HP per 10 feet moved so -12 HP.]

Feeling the digging metal in his shoulder as his legs take a second to recover as William falls to the ground from the surprise injuries. With a last minute action running through his mind to reach out his arms to dig into the soft dirt during the fall to let his nails dig in place and push up. Launching his body forward as he uses his body's momentum and arm strength to keep up the escape as another forty feet gets added from the golem.

More distance, more safety mantra echoes inside William’s mind as he steadies his breathing and digs into his reserves as adrenaline surges across his body. Wiping out the tiredness, aches, and strain his muscles accumulated as he reaches for another surge of distance as he knows the golems might now pay attention to the runaway that somehow disappeared from their sight. Rose’s trick of just running at the best time comes in handy now with the fighter and ranger training barely making his body winded from the sheer speed he is maintaining by adding another forty feet from the school. Vision is obscured by trees, bush, branches, and leaves as he jumps through the foliage to begin breaking line of sight with the golems as shade start blocking out the sun.

part 1
>>
>>6160701
Feeling the familiar burning pain returning to his body as William’s body is reaching close to his limits of what his body and training can handle only for him to ignore that. Gulping down lungfuls of cool air as he scrapes for every bit of energy he can find as his limbs grow numb, his heart beating harder and harder, as muscles scream in agony as he pushes out another forty feet of distance again. Uprooted roots, thorny vines, and jagged branches all move out of his way as his ranger magic helps open a path for him before returning back to their places to block vision. As lances of fire streak through the forest like a lighthouse burning all in its path as it cleaves through trees and bush. An explosion rocks the edge of the forest as bush gets flattened before William gets hit by its very weak shockwave. A thin sickly green ray of magic slams into a tree before turning it into ash and dust. Taking cover before another tree as William drops down on the floor as he takes a moment to gather his strength as pixels of rust can barely be seen past the forest’s cover. Distance too great for the golems to cover even while running full tilt as they announce their demands.

“Cov-Rune Knight you are to submit to authority and explain desertion of duties!”

Confusion wraps around William’s face at that statement before shaking off the distraction as he takes in another breath and gets up. Bracing himself against the tree as William launches himself away as his legs fly across the ground dodging and weaving against errant branches and roots as he puts another 120 feet between him and the golems. Taking a quick pause as he grips the arrow and with a harsh few tugs rips a chunk of his flesh off to see a barbed arrowhead with metal spikes designed to dig into flesh and holes for muscle to grow into. A very efficient way to cause continuous pain or waste precious seconds to rip out before William casts Thaumaturgy to clean the blood off of the arrowhead before tossing it away.

Limping into the city and away from the open sky William takes a quick seat along the wall of an alleyway as he keeps his eyes peeled. Letting a sigh of relief shake his body at surviving all the danger he faced and survived in the death trap of Astra. Entire hails of arrows sweeping across the classroom, dragon’s breath pouring down from the sky as it somehow missed trapped mages. To the bloodbath rune knights can commit without even activating their songs as their blades ripped apart bone and flesh as easily as he had against the gangster’s HQ. How efficient the knights picked apart mages so easily with their counterspell reactions and item usage to avoid losing their advantages while outnumbered and surrounded. With thoughts drifting to the golems and how slow they were in trying to catch up to his and their last minute use of high tiered spells. So much knowledge gained with half of his blood lost being a pretty great deal in exchange even if the rest of his body aches and throbs in pain. But a great way of realizing he still has skills learned from Rose that completely saved his life when he had no offensive or magic abilities to rely on. Taking a long inhale as the cool air is sucked into his lungs before exhaling slowly trying to dull the ache and pain in his shoulder. Reaching a hand to his shoulder and pushing in on the raw flesh for the pressure to coagulate his blood as William keeps casting Thaumaturgy to wipe away the splotches of blood and flesh clinging on his clothing as he stumbles to his feet. Looking toward the direction of Astra before deciding he didn’t want to risk another run in with another mage he pulls out his phone to contact Rose. Exchanging a brief status update and meeting up at some random apartment building close to Astra’s territory outskirts. Taking a seat down on the ground with his legs crossed and back not touching the wall as William concentrates on his body.

Feeling the thrum of mana in his blood move as he focuses on his heartbeat to will his body to recover as a burning buzz burns his shoulder. Flesh heating up and stretching as nerves flare in pain and sensation as bone is covered up. Limbs going numb and weighless as bone marrow dumps its emergency stores to recover the lost material as wet pops echo on his back as his muscle and blood push out the scar tissue. Flakes of dried blood scratching his back as he keeps focus on recovery as pin needles stab him all along his body. Arrowhead holes sealing up, bone buzzing away hairline fractures, and blood pressure returning to normal as thirty minutes pass in intense focus. Leaving behind a new shoulder, fresh flesh, and a headache from rapid regeneration for his restored body after surviving way too dangerous fights.

>Burnt all 8 hit dice for +40 HP. William back to full health.

Body still aching from the stress as Rose turns a corner as she keeps an eye on the sky as she reaches William’s alleyway. Seeing Rose wipe sweat off of her forehead as she tries to steady her breathing with bits of leaves, twigs, and streaks of mud staining her arms and legs as she leans against the wall. Quickly reporting to Rose what he learned as William shakes off the exhaustion to recall everything he heard.

“Damn William surviving Animus and Coven fight is bad enough but running from high tier spells from the iron golems is a miracle.”
“Well turns out ranger levels were a very good idea to outrun walking tanks.”
“You know I actually thought the golems would have a teleportation trick or a lightning lure trick to pull people toward them. Guess they are just not rated for hit and runs or long distance chases.”
“They are still stupid as they kept thinking I was a different mage every time they saw me.”
“What? They couldn’t recognize you as being an ord or High Ring?”
“Apparently not which surprised me as well as I would expect them to have a list of students names and faces to pull from.”

“Could be that the school cuts in costs as much as possible to line their own pockets with how they allow ords in for more funding. Actually yeah they are cheap enough to cut corners and rip non-essentials out of their programming to save a few bucks.”
“Does this help the resistance?”
“Yeah, pretty much tells us we can use illusions and uniforms to trick them into thinking we are resisting mages. With their low bar of intelligence we can even bait them into a chase out of Astra to reduce their numbers for the raid. And since you did it during a mage war and it assumed you were a rune knight that is going to cause them problems as they search for a rogue knight.”
“My actions caused that just by running away?”
“The knights are the only ones with fighter type training and they don’t know an ord evolved so they will witch hunt on themselves. But eventually they will use a truth spell to try and find the rogue knight and realize it was not one of them.” Hums Rose as she paces along the hallway.
“And they will realize an awaken ord is in their midst?”
“Or a resistance cell is operating here so it forces us to either move up the raid sooner and cause more fights to learn about their strengths or just call it all off and pull your team out into the outskirts.”
“Astra can find us out that easily?”
“They have divination, truth spells, and the manpower to question everyone so it comes down to what you want to do.”
“What are the options?”
“Uhhh. Hmmm. Option one you start coming into Astra and start more fights under polymorph or mage disguises. Very dangerous but weakens the factions more as they retaliate and makes the resistance raid against their projects easier. Option two we pull me, you, and your team out then send you into the outskirts as our cell will get compromised so better to get out now. We can take your families too but it will be rough out there. Option three a wait and see approach to see if the mage war escalates then pop the raid on the weekend and hope they are weakened enough for the raid to be successful.”
“Weren’t you doing option 3 already?”
“Well yeah but that was before you met the iron golems and gave them a knight anomaly point so things have to move a bit fast now. So what do you think since you and your team will be most affected by this.”
“What would the boss’s opinion be on this?”
“He wouldn’t want to influence his agent’s choice as they themselves know their own limits on how far they can push. Plus he doesn’t know what the circumstances are on the ground so he has to rely on the agent's instincts.”

-Option 1 get polymorph spells and fight mages
-Option 2 get out of the area and resettle to the outskirts
-Option 3 wait and hope the war exhausts them

Damn didn't think we gave away much. Wanted to rolepoay Williams human supremacy and it seems to have backfired. We need more strength and those songs off of the knights.

I mean William did a lot and got to level 13 by his efforts so fast and hard he made the rune knights get investigated for potential rogue elements.
>>
I forgot dnd maxed at 20. This is a huge leap, just got to make sure we can take advantage of it.

right now we're 7f 3A 3G?

I don't think we should learn more spells until we destroy the other two spirits inside.

If we go I'm polymorphic what happens with our pre-established deals like the animus and brainwashers?

Can we steal from coven? They seen like the most likely to have super soldier projects.

“I hate it but I know eventually they will find out I am tanking hits and still standing after getting dragged into mage fights.”
“It would only take one alert mage to spot something odd and decide to investigate out of curiosity.”
“And the other mage factions are active too?”
“Yup, already sending scout teams looking for vulnerabilities and with the rune knights getting audited they will ramp up their efforts with less school patrols before they return to duty.”
“And there is no other way to avoid this?”
“Outskirts or wait and see.”
“Fuck. Give me the polymorph spells and I will see what I can do here..”
“Also you survived mages so you need to train with your new caps and mana levels. Did you think of what you want to focus on?”
“Probably pour more training into my physical combat techniques and mobility as that really saved my ass on two separate occasions.”
“Well let's go to HQ then so you can get a memory upload fast as you need every bit of power for the mage fights.”

Walking between alleyways and sprinting across streets as the party rushes from cover to cover constantly keeping watch to the sky and streets. William feeling the eyes of random people glancing at him before fading away behind covered windows, locked doors, and the occasional speeding car. Eyes constantly scanning the horizon as his body vibrates with untapped mana just waiting for guidance and channeling to a better form. As a single question bubbles up in his mind about his power and Astra.

“Hey Rose, is it normal to get so much power so fast from surviving mages?”
“Very much normal as the pressure and threat of having pieces of yourself stolen by Astra is very motivating. Plus with a ban on regeneration spells to ensure they know the cost of causing collateral damage and either to fight fast and get out or keep the fights small and local.”
“So the mage wars is pumping everyone up higher?”
“Yup at the cost of losing out on manpower to avoid getting killed again by other factions also we are here.”

Rose gestures to the resistance HQ as she brings William inside as she passes by multiple agents as they treat their wounds and cut out rotten flesh clinging to their limbs.

“So what kind of polymorph identity do you want? High Ring demon, polymorph into an Animus cat boy, or hmm warlock?”
“Warlocks are real?”
“Yes, usually I would not recommend this but with our time running out with a warlock status you can fake being a Revelation, Coven, or Rune Knight mage. Mostly with the danger of dealing with the fae that will fuck with you and dealing with Astra being a lot more suspicious.”

>Go shadow sorcerer. We can fuck everyone up and we'll out gun the wizards with less spells known but we just pick the cheese spells. Antimagic field, counterspell, dispel magic, fireball, dimensional door, finger of death, globe of invulnerability, true seeing, greater invisibility, disintegrate, alter self.

Disintegrate perma kills these mage cunts. Globe makes us untouchable by spells below 5 or 6 if we up cast it. Finger of death is a con save and these mages have low con.

Use our shadow beast to give everyone within 10 feet disadvantage on saves. Meaning they roll twice take lowest.

We'll show them what real fucking rocket tag looks like. Alter self so we can walk around corners and change our appearance to look like another faction. We can then bounce between whatever faction and stir shit up. Aka pretend to be Coven fuck with Animus, pretend to be Animus fuck with revelation. Pretend to be rune knights fuck with everyone.

>qm you got our William identity correct.

I say we try to perma delete a couple people to really piss everyone off.

Use actual physical disguise too. So disguise ourselves as Coven physically then layer an alter self on top. So if anyone true sights us they see a Coven or whatever.

>Ring of Mind shielding and nondetection must have.

Basically snipe cunts already fighting perma delete one or two. Dip and alter self. I assume after we perma delete one or two people the mage war will get super spicy and the factions will start doing it to each other too in revenge.

Then we can just eat cake and watch the school delete itself.

Also summon an imp familiar to use as eyes and ears.

“I mean I am going all in on the fighting so might as well throw the fae in as well. Also I got the mana for more memory level upgrades.”
“Sure, let me call in the boss and just order in your next experience batch.”
“Preferences?”
“Three levels from rogue as hiding is the next step from running and another two levels for fighter to keep myself on top of rune knight training.”

William waits along the hallway as agents walk between the hallways as Rose makes a few calls using her code phrases as an hour passes by. Seeing rogues, fighters, and recruits moving supplies between rooms as a few people leave and enter the building before Rose comes back with the memory shards. Taking the box from Rose, William begins etching along the air with a pulse of cantrip magic as his fingertips buzz as his hand enters the memory strand box. Making a flash of light cover his vision as his vision returns under foliage and dirt as four mages fly across the sky in dark robes and golden trim. Waves after wave of fireballs launch along their trails from arcing shots from the horizon as heat and shockwaves slam against his hiding spot. Trees ripped and blow apart as they are tossed aside like twigs with geysers of dirt raining along the ground.

Terror shakes his arms as his breath chokes in his throat o as he watches the sky hoping the government mages leave the area. Seconds turn into an hour as they keep burning the area below them as the fireballs intensify from mage and artillery shots as the ground turns into grey ash and blasted glass. Inching its way closer to his position as another fireball artillery shot arcs toward him forcing a quick decision as his hand grabs his rooftop cover as he sprints Westward. A hand clenching against his necklace as he squeezes hard, popping off a Pass without a Trace spell as he hides along the treeline putting more distance between his old position and him. The fireball arcs ever closer as it reaches within twenty feet before a counterspell auto activates and dissipates the shot. With the entire government team pinpointing the discovered position as they launch four different spells toward the area. First earth erupts and fractures as it shakes the trees to carve out a ravine on the ground, a sleet storm freezes over the area in a coat of frost turning the ground into frozen terrain, a thunder wave spell splinters the ground as ice shards tear into the nearby trees further, with the last spell being another fireball to cook what is left. As another wave of artillery shots slam around the army to further pound their found position all in an effort to catch even a single Resistance agent.

In response multiple fireworks rise into the air from all directions hidden behind treelines and blasted ground as they streak across the sky.

part 1
>>
>>6164903
Burning red flames with sparkles trailing behind their tails as the firework splits half way into the sky into multiple other rockets turning four attacks into four swarms of Resistance projectiles. Immediately the government agents form up a square perimeter as they launch two counterspells and two dispel magics into the cloud of rockets. Counterspells race out as two golden hue strings to each snatch one of the rockets and break its magic power leaving behind a still active swarm. With the other two government agents trying desperately to rush a dispel magic only to be interrupted by a wave of thunder and sparks as the rockets detonate all around them. Scorching their bodies and shaking their internal organs from the violent shockwaves slamming throughout their whole bodies as a second wave of rockets fly into the air but this time enchanted with fireballs. Having held their fire to let the dummy rockets to tank the first defenses before launching the more valuable payload for clean up. Government agents try to scramble for their emergency retreat beacons or attempt another dispel magic only for the enhanced fireballs to light up the day as four bodies drop toward the ground.

*Skunk mages down. Rush and finish them before the backup gets in. Sending in an artificer to support.*

Hearing the order from high command Skunk takes in a breath as he tries to shake off the terror before grabbing the thunderwave spell. Rushing across blasted glass and cratered ground as his heart thunders in his chest cursing at the fact he is a recruit and expendable trying to delay the fucking government from find their bases. Hearing more fireball artillery continue slamming into his old position having not noticed their mage patrol got downed as he thanks command instead of the cruel gods. Sliding across the ground as he sees three agents getting up as they cast a heal on themselves as they call in the ambush on their patrol. Hands shaking with the thunderwave spell in his hand, Skunk fires off the spell as it misses the group to only hit one mage as he yells in pain. Quickly the mages return fire with streaks of gold trying to suppress Skunk as another rocket much larger and better designed slams into their group. Throwing mages to the ground as they scramble to get up and throw another counterspell behind them as another rocket double taps them. Tearing limbs, robes, and blood out of their bodies with pieces of their flesh hanging off of their faces as a third rocket blows up on them again.

Catching his breath and awe, Skunk shakily pulls out another thunderwave and launches it again, still missing the whole group but clipping one mage that doesn’t even have the strength to counterspell it. A few seconds pass as another rocket with a fireball configuration cleans up the bodies as the order to retreat is issued. Breathing out a sigh of relief as he heads back home to live for another day.

Pulling out of his memory vision as William takes a quick glance at Rose as she is mentally concentrating on drawing the sending cantrip in the air as she continues talking to her boss. Looking half exhausted and angry as she pours in all her attention and focus staring into a wall as a bead of sweat rolls down on her forehead. Turning his head back to the box William grabs the next memory strand as he opens his eyes underground with torches holding a light spell illuminating the area around him. To see another fighter instructor giving the basics of how to use momentum of an attack to carry your body and weapon around your body to squeeze in another hit in. Using your strength and angle to spin along your heel by adopting a looser footstance to help in positioning without getting your foot caught on the ground. First by pre-clearing the area around you by moving into a new area then burning some of your stamina to sweep your feet around your holding area. Ensuring the ground is cleared of obstacles and having a pre-grooved area to help guide your momentum rather than relying on the ground to be safe to spin in.

Blinking the darkness away William feels a sense of pride at all the knowledge he gained knowing mobility is a great first and last option hoping the rogue skills will be able to help keep him alive a bit longer. Feeling a tap on his shoulder as an exhausted Rose points William toward the boss’s door as both make their way inside the room. To see the same old blond boss on his desk with a look of anger and concern written on his face.

“I hate that I have to involve the fae again but we are already going to lose this cell and can’t afford to let Astra finish their striker and fighter research. I can’t guarantee your safety with the fae as they are very easily bored so do everything I say. Do Not Speak A Word, and let me do the speaking as they will try to make you to talk and force a deal on you if you speak out.”
“Sounds simple enough.”
“Fae aren’t simple but let's get this started anyway.”

Standing up from his desk the boss gestures the duo toward a corner as he spreads powdered glittering sand along a square shape with his agents standing inside. Carefully drawing runes along the square protection circle as he exits the room to bring out bags of blood to line his entire room into another protection circle. Drawing runes faster in blood as he cuts a small hole in the bag and squeezing it out like a frosting bag as he lines the floor with blood runes taking an hour to finish.

“Is this really that dangerous?” Asks William a bit nervous at all the preparation he is seeing.
“Very dangerous as I had to call in an evacuation and have multiple Dark Star spells ready to pop when shit goes wrong.”
“You mean if?”
“No.” Adds the Boss as he returns to work.
“Okay I am having second thoughts on this.”
“Too late as it is already watching you when you asked for it. It likes to watch everything.”

Pulling out a small knife the Boss slashes open his hand as he draws the fae’s name in some kind of unknown language. Bursts of green flame pop up from the name as reality cracks a bit in the middle of the room as dark light peeks through reality. Hairline cracks spreading in the air as night descends into the room as a loud shatter echoes as corpses of knights slump along the floor. Eyes. Dozens of eyes trace along every inch of the room as it takes in the atmosphere as a chill runs along William’s spine. Seeing translucent wings not flutter but hover above the ground as water or fluid sloshes inside its body as it sits on top a pile of corpses with armor and sword in their hands. Very old mummified corpses with brown flesh stuck in screaming postures as they look up into the night sky. It turns his gaze downward to look at everyone present as the Boss matches its gaze, Rose flinches back, as William turns his sights downward as he takes quick glances to its shape.

“The new toy asked for me? Well I am delighted to grace my presence to you William and I have to say your little sideshow started off strong but running away instead of fighting those golems? That was such a tease and I expect better next time.”

Yes. But I don't want to stat out a warlock and we'd be massively out gunned since warlocks only have what 3 spells per short rest... where as with sorcerer we have like 20+ or so + sorcerer points with metamagic. And subtle metamagic means we don't have to speak spells (silence doesn't fuck us) or move our hands (restraint or loss of hands = no spells cast).

And I knew Mac wasn't going to do it.

States William half in panic at forcing himself to look at the fae’s eyes as his spine freezes from staring at something so eldritch. Information of its body stabbing needles into his eyes and brain every second he stares at the thing as it hovers in the air. Spotting out of the corner of his eye at the boss pinching the bridge of his nose as the air turns cold as the eyes focus down on William.

“Maddening Darkness side cast single target.”

Darkness rushes across William’s vision robbing his of the little light inside the room as he is caught off guard at the rapid hostility. The weight of the darkness slamming down on his head as William drops to the floor hearing screams of terror, blood filled coughs, and laughter of things with too many voices. Blood drips out of his ears, nose, and eyes as William coughs out mouthfuls of his organs as iron taints his tongue as he tries to get back on his feet. Taking quick breaths trying to regain his balance as the pressure suddenly disappears.

Vision returns to see his defense circle cracked as the blood runes along the walls of the room look frosted over and rotted out as they have been on the walls for a week. With the boss pointing a sword sparkling in green light as he prepares another spell on his off hand as Rose stays low to the ground ready to defend against another attack. All the while the floating fae seems unbothered by the bosses threat and brushes off some rotten flesh that was not there before.

“What was the one thing I told you to do William!?” Snaps out the boss as he keeps his eye on the fae.
“Now, now don’t interrupt a deal in the making Noah or that will be a breach of your contract.” States the Eye as it only gives him the attention of one wing eye as it focuses down on William.
“Vigilance this is my home you follow my rules.”

Tbh I don't know why we're talking to a fucking fae in the first place. I said like four times we want to be a fucking shadow sorcerer. Why the fuck are we talking to a fae to make us a fucking warlock?

Like I don't know if the qm misread your shit or just over ruled our choice or what. But desu it's a bit fucking annoying to vote on shit then random other fucking shit happens. If we're going to be polymorphed into a shadow sorcerer there's no fucking need for this shit in the first place.

Like seriously this shit is super gay.
>>
>>6165394
>Repeat the same shit but slower for the retard with his ears clogged.

>>
>>6165469
Okay I didn't notice I put in the write-in choice as well to the temp identity pick. Should have not added that part as it was a force of habit. But the idea was shadow sorcerer would fall under fae option as you were customizing the class and it was not an Animus or demon class which were more easily attainable with polymorph spell.

Yeah you chose the sorcerer shadow plan and I had to try and figure out a way to include it.

They didn't want to get fae and warlocks involved because they are a pain to deal with and way to dangerous to give information to everyone.

>>6165473
Absorb elements does not absorb psychic damage

Because of my write-in mistake I can just roll this back as I should have spotted my mistake before posting on monday.
>>
>>6165621
Yeah I didn't want to talk to fae either. Why I told Mac to nope it and go shadow sorcerer.

Fair.

I'm happy to change to divination wizard with portent. So demon pick I guess?

Ah I assumed it was necrotic damage but that's not covered under absorb elements either. So my mistake there too.

I didn't realize us picking a thing to polymorph into was going to have us talk to any kind of being. I thought they were just gonna poof us into something and we got to pick what.

Then suddenly we were being taken to big boss who said we were all dead as a cell unless we did this emergency talk with a fae.

I'd really like metamagic subtle spell. But if that's a nope. I'll take portent divi wiz so we can either nat 100 ourselves out of something or low roll an enemy into a auto fail.( I do realize we roll twice and whatever we get, we get. It's just an example)

But however you want to do it. "it was not an Animus or demon class which were more easily attainable with polymorph spell."

See I didn't even realize the fae option wasn't a polymorph option. Since you said polymorph identity. And listed all of them. Hence I was like aight if we get to pick anything sorcerer will body wizards all day everyday especially with subtle metamagic.
>>
>>6166064
So I spent an hour trying to work out the lore and material for divination polymorph and realize these would be too important to be handed out by the resistance. Plus, it is getting a bit too bloated for what should just be a second health bar identity.

So yeah I will have to put down a railroad and issue an Animus identity so just treat it as a druid. Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this distraction so I will get the next update done to move things along as the quest should hopefully finish by the end of January.
>>
>>6166546
============
Rolling back to identity pick ignore the fae updates
=============

“Any recommendations?”
“I would go for the Animus druid polymorph choice as the demons have been thrown back and would look suspicious as a lone demon roaming alone. Then there is the fae option which is always the dangerous choice.”
“Guess I am stuck with the Animus then? Fuck I hope I don’t cough up furballs everywhere.”
“That will be awful but we can side step it by making you into a coyote instead. Just try to avoid leaving too much blood and suspicion in the field so they don’t look too closely at what you leave behind. Or launch a fireball to destroy any evidence you leave behind that works too.”
“Right but I will lose a lot of my old skills and abilities so I won’t be able to win fights.”
“You don’t need to win, you just need to cause shit and antagonize enough that the mages tear into themselves and with the rune knights busy it should be easier to escape before they come in.” States Rose as he pulls out a scroll and hands it over to William.
“Hopefully I don’t lose limbs over this but what about you?”
“I have to help the boss with some set up and make future vision cover for your actions and for the raid. When an entire society has future vision from divination school we have to get creative to fuck with their plans.”
“They can see the future? How have we not been caught?”
“The government uses gods to boost their future vision to a week and plan around that but with Resistance diviner materials we can see a day in advance, using random chance, and a lot of different plans in motions we can blind or clutter their future vision. The mage war and rune knight investigation gunked up their visions but to be safe the boss will have to order more cover so we don’t get jumped on the weekend.”

“Oh right before I forget since they got truth spells and shit anything to help with lying or hiding things?”
“Ah, I thought I was forgetting something but yeah. We got a ring of mind shielding to hide away lying and reading your thoughts. Pretty useful for infiltrators just watch out for damage that could break the ring like a fireball or finger of death.”

Entering Hellscream’s mansion William quickly cleans up any other stains of blood on his clothing as he turns into the night. Feeling the exhaustion seep out of his body as his eyelids slowly close before opening them back again to see the morning come. Checking around the room in case its a trap from Willow or Hayden as his ears strain trying to figure out if he is still sleeping or not. Getting an idea William bites into his hand as a sting of pain greets him providing he is awake and unbothered by his other enemies for the moment.

Thursday morning turning into a blur as he calls up Muffin as he makes his way to the secret workshop in the library hoping to help on the repairs on his equipment. Passing through streets, trees, and hallways as he enters Muffin’s workshop passing by material laid out along the table. Wires, cut metals, computer chips, and tools cutting into the gauntlets as vials of blood are being boiled, pressed, or concentrated with bandages covering up Muffin’s forearm. Striding forth towards Muffin with a soldering tools and a welder’s mask as he taps on her shoulder to get her attention as she turns toward him.

“Oh hey will, I just started working on this so it will take some time for me to get everything working but with you hear we can get it done today.”
“That is great and what is with the blood on the table?”
“Oh that well usually materials are not strong enough to handle magic channeling and would melt under the strain of channeling leyline magic. But with blood that has just trace amounts of mana it can be used to reinforce the materials to take the strain but turns out trace mana can’t handle tier four spells before imploding.”
“So I have to worry with heat or overcharging and melting the gauntlets again?”
“Not if I can help it. Now as much as I hate how the raid went I cannot deny that my mana reserves grew a lot. So with the new mana power I can further infuse the gauntlets to handle higher tier spells to avoid self detonation.”
“Does the quality or quantity of the blood help resist the melting itself problem?”
“Lil bit of both. Higher quality blood can handle the more sensitive parts of the channeling system but I need quantity to infuse every individual part to prevent cascade failures from one screw melting down and getting into the wiring. It's why it would take me days as I need to draw my blood to concentrate it down.”
“Can you use my blood to help speed up repairs?”
“Yup, it will just be painful.”
“That is normal so lets get started.”

Both students begin drawing out more crimson fluid into beakers before being tossed into Muffin’s makeshift chemistry set to burn out the water and separate the blood cells with the mana. Hours stretch out as the monotony of the work grinds against their patience as every drop is purified as every individual part of the gauntlets is rewired, replaced, or upgraded. Burnt out chips pulled out, mended, cleaned up, and taken apart to salvage it for future use. William zoning in as his arms work like a machine carefully soldering new chips and gold wiring back in place as his blood infuses the material. Every drop strengthening, molding, and enchanting every piece of metal as its mana flows across his weapon to follow all of his demands. The constant expert care and focus turning what should have been a full day’s work into only three hours leaving plenty of time for another action.

Looking over the newly upgraded gauntlets with pride at his and Muffin’s work at having restored and improved the weapon. Already a thin hum echoes inside his gauntlet as his mana recognizes his weapon as William puts it away under his clothing to avoid letting any mages see his work. Rubbing the scar tissue on his arms as the bloodletting wounds regenerate over after a small rest as Muffin eats goodberries to recover her lost blood. Both people cleaning up tools, blood, and melted scrap to avoid leaving any evidence that could out their plans.

“So Muffin that was a great job finishing off the repairs so fast.”
“Yeah kinda surprised too at how much I got done it is like I suddenly found new connections to data or got better at improvising solutions. Also helps with the fact I had usable parts rather than the scraps that took me months to grab.”
“About that we might have to leave Astra after the weekend.”
“Wait why?”
“Well as your part of the resistance we will raid the school for something and they will want to pull you out of the area.”
“And they tell us now?”
“They told me like in the morning after I fucked with the golems and rune knights so they want to get us all out before things get bad.”
“So they just decided to throw us into the deep end already and uproot everything?” Says Muffin with a tinge of anger lacing her voice.
“To be fair I was kinda the one that pushed for a more aggressive strategy as the mages can see into the future with divination so we are already on a clock.”
“What about my family?! Are we suppose to just leave them behind?”
“We can take them all.”
“Ah?Uhm, what about my degree and all my work that will go to waste as I doubt the resistance can do or build anything in the wilds.”
“They can always use more artificers as Rose is one too and they have built pretty impressive things as we saw with the purifiers.”
“Ugh, this isn’t how I imagined my life would go and Virgil won’t abandon his family to Astra.”
“Right, I kinda forgot about that part while getting things ready for Saturday.”
“Yeah, yeah just had out for your things while I get let everyone else know and start deconstructing my workshop.”

Exiting the workshop William sends out Betty a text as he waits for several minutes as a call goes through hushing her to begin his spiel of selling used cars for several seconds before getting to what he actually needs.

“Betty, we are going to raid Astra on the weekend and I need names of factions that hate each other to cause more damage to the rune knights.”
“Why?”
“Resistance wants to destroy something in Astra and it might reveal us.”
“Wh-”
“Your family can be taken in and away from mages.”
“Sucks that we will lose the bakery but it is better than dying on the street. So if you want to cause a lot of trouble I can hand you the leader's feuds to force a lot of collateral damages but very dangerous.”

part 1

“Sounds great, what are the options?”
“Well I have Revelations the divination branch really hates Rune Knights the adjuration branch for getting in the way of them cleansing the sins of the students. I got High Ring and Coven grind against each other for material funding into research and projects as both have deep ties to government projects. Then Prisma and Animus both fight for the recruiting pools and first pick.”
“High Ring is still active after getting bodied by the wars?”
“No High Ring’s control broke down so they retreated to their last stronghold in the upper floors so they will refuse open conflict due to reduced numbers. So if you want to cause level 20 mages fights you have two options. Get cleansed by the nun team and break a wall to summon the knights and let them duke it out as you run or convince Animus to hit Prisma.”
“Nothing on Coven at all?”
“Nope as if they take an ord they teleport out and experiment on them so sightings of them involve get taken somewhere else where you can’t escape. Though you could attack one of their level 5 teams to summon out a response force but I don’t know how strong they would be as all their attention will be on you rather than on the enemy leader. So which one do you want?”

“I will deal with the Revelations and Rune Knights then.”
“Sure, just try not to die during it as I want my family to escape. So basically a war nun hangs around the auditorium using it as a cleansing site for students that sin against one of the gods. Which god? Basically any as they all are zealots. Rune Knights are based out of the gym and training ranges who constantly practice their craft.”
“Separate locations so there is not much of a chance of them running into each other then?”
“Correct. To rattle them you need to destroy a chunk of the auditorium and summon the knights to a fight or try to catch the nun leader leaving home and blow out some windows to pin on her. With your magic you could blow out the windows while the nuns are there as trying to fuck with Rune Knight land will pop their anti-magic or send a way too big response force.”
“Anything to push the feuds into being more brutal?”
“Lemmie check my notes. Ah so Maria the nun leader hates lies and deceit while reserving a higher purpose to aid their god’s agenda. They take issue with the knights serving mortals rather than the actual divine in front of them to line their pockets with Astra funding. Knights hate how hard the priests try to push for conversion to others in Astra and their blind faith in something that toys with mortals.”
“How have they not fought each other before?”
“They have but usually keep to themselves and only get summoned when damage or real problems show up to make them get up. So what is the plan?”

-Head to the auditorium and attempt to destroy a window when caught.

“I have to try and catch my target in the open and avoid getting cornered in their lairs or bombing a cafeteria. I can use either a cantrip or a normal spell to avoid notice as they look for mages than an ord.”
“Are you going to bomb my chefs?” States Betty as her voice cracks before he lowers in back down.
“Not your chefs but putting wards on trays instead and bombing them when mages gather around during their usual hours when ords definitely won’t be around.”
“If you want to try that they like to arrive around 8,11, and 2 as that is their usual times to give my staff time to hide.”
“I am not doing the cafeteria traps yet. Going to see if I can catch the nun when she leaves the school or for classes for the rest of the day.”
“If that fails I can do some traps with my magic on the trays to have a back up plan if you can’t find her.”
“Sure sounds good, I'll see you tomorrow after a hopefully successful mission.”
“Oh right the leader nun to keep an eye out for is tall, blond, wears a blindfold with a napkin for a dress, and a sword with a weighing scale on its uhh pommel area? You can tell that she lets it all hang out and leaves nothing to the imagination.”

Ending the call William begins his plan moving from side hallway to side hallway as he strains his ears and instincts listening for approaching mages. Occasional zaps and burning ozone tingling his nose from powerful spells being slinged between mages. Quick moving out of Astra as he takes up some brush and branches along the treeline as he keeps the auditorium in his full view. Scanning the floors to pick out windows along the second floor to target to drop the knights down on them. Watching as hours tick by as a few nuns exit the building in twos and ones with a blade or book as they move towards the gates as their leader doesn’t show up as Astra closes down for the day. Failing to catch the leader out William tosses aside the branches as he makes his way back to the mansion to try again tomorrow.

Reaching the mansion easily as William Prestidigitation away the dirt stains along his clothing as he gives another check to make sure he didn’t miss a spot as he walks upon the stairs toward the door. Wracking his brain for a bit before deciding to hang with Hellscream a bit more to see what he can learn about her before being forced to abandon Astra. Reaching out a hand toward the handle as the door opens itself as a maid greets him before clearing the way. Moving along the hallway as he hears turns to the maid to ask where the host is before being pointed to the study room. Moving toward the knowledge room William sees the door open as he spots a maid peeling some decayed flesh off of Hellscream’s arm as she casts some sigil in the air under her breath. A red hue glowing along the skin as a blue flame flares upon her skin as Hellscream hisses before the fire snuffs itself out before a green paste and bandages are applied to the affected arm.

Scalpels, blood, jars, and blood soaked towels lay on a medical cart with dried blood staining its tool as another maid assistant keeps a bag of blood and clear fluid above her head. Deciding to return back outside for a moment to avoid interrupting the doctors William stays outside the room and in the hallway for another ten minutes. Waiting until the maids cart off their medical equipment as William knocks on the door and invites himself in to be greeted by the now noticed smell of alcohol, burnt flesh, blood, and paper as he coughs from the mixture.

“Well, aren't you polite for waiting. So what brings you to my study?” Asks Hellscream as she relaxes on her chair not letting a hint of pain or discomfort be visible on her face.
“Just thought I should check in with my host as it's been a while since Prisma hit you.”
“A minor setback and reconsolidation is all. I can easily regain control after the rune knights stop breathing down my neck and the punishment waves finish up. You think they would be faster with the resurrection scrolls but apparently they got held up by an investigation of something.”
“I am sure it's nothing a strong leader like yourself can’t deal with.”
“Can’t really affect paperwork but the best I can do is wait till things clear up and retake what was mine next week.”
“Hopefully everything can be quickly fixed when you return to your original faction strength.”

“So what is with the impromptu surgery?”
“Just normal wear and tear on the ground.” Winces Hellscream as she clenches her fist and steadies her hand.
“Come on I mage of your caliber could have easily cast a heal to skip all that. So what is wrong.” Presses William a bit looking for answers for what he is seeing.
“Fine, by my grace I will enlighten you a bit. A normal injury can be easily fixed but with strong magic being thrown around something had to be invented to make injuries stick.”
“What like a specialty prepared spell?”
“In a way but the easiest way is creating a magic resistant curse so that greater restoration cannot purify it and instead taints the flesh to ensure the damage sticks.”
“Even against dispel and anti-magic?”
“Immune to dispel but not against anti-magic but you need to strip the flesh that is affected by the curse for a cleaner recovery. All the cursed flesh or you will have rotten flesh under the healthy ones and get septic shock.”
“Damn that is very dangerous and Astra allows it.”
“They let the Coven faction do anything they want as long as it provides results, then they turn around and sell Curse Break version one. Vultures sell problems and solutions to what they do to curry favor from everyone.”
“Also version one? They invented more Heal Curses since then?”
“That is normal mage things they do. They won’t settle for one success and sale, even going far enough to wave the solutions as single use scrolls to up their pricing and information security.”
“I imagine that didn’t make them friends with other mages.”
“It made a lot of bad blood for everyone else having to either pay for their one use solutions or “troubleshoot” they own solution as you can see.” Gestures Hellscream to her arm and bandages.
“Well at least you didn’t let the Coven decide how to boss you around.”
“Still the price of not having the curse breaks means an even longer recovery time as I have to make a rotating schedule of anti-magic and surgeries to try and get all my members treatment.”
“Things were that bad in a few days of fighting?”
“Level twenty mages and Prisma prep threw some good hits while they managed to tank Rune Knight retaliation. I should have won that.” Hisses out Hellscream.

“So any new gossip or something to hide from?”
“Other than the usual knights getting investigated for something about breaking rules nothing new came into my view. Although Animus appears to be stocking up on scrolls as they were seen bringing in more material from the Coven.”
“Sounds like they are preparing for another attack on someone.”
“Possibly but most of their scroll purchases were being taken out of the school and not being applied to their holdings in Astra.”
“Considering I still hear explosions, maybe they are trying to hit other factions that are as damaged as yours?”
“Everyone is mostly prodding each other trying to find any weak links or chase off scouts but they are mostly at full strength even after knight retaliation. Especially after the group of knight members as the staff are for some reason looking into them.”

Processing each word William is hearing he notes not a single pause or stutter in Hellscream’s words. Her hand twitching from the pain as Hellscream keeps her voice steady as she clamps down on the pain to focus on the questions asked of her. With just frustration on her face over her setbacks and relaxation of being able to complain about her problems with no hint of lies in her words. Mostly confusion lacing her words at the sudden knight investigation right after her faction got smacked down by them.

“Seems pretty damaging that curse puts your body through. Are you sure you can recover from that since it is blocking healing?”
“One measly little curse won’t stop me, your patron is much greater than that. I assume that your brain damage might have scrambled your knowledge if this curse looks that intimidating to you.” Scoffs out Hellscream as she lies trying to undersell how powerful the curse actually is that it forced her to use anti-magic and surgery.

“Just making sure my host can return back to your best for Astra as bandages ruin your image. Can’t order mages around Astra without looking your best in skill and looks.”
“Don’t worry I have plenty of ways to wave away unsightly sights.”
“I can imagine a small injury is nothing more than a smidge to your form so any new things from the books?”
“Not much as I don’t bother to expand them often as I will only shop around every decade or so to get a refresher on the politics of the nation. I don’t want to fill up my study with outdated material before having to throw it away a year later.”
“Really? So you would not notice random important events passing you by?”
“Oh I have my maid keep track of anything important, pass the event news to me, then I can make an exception to look into it more. There was a note my parents made to keep updated on every month.”
“What school curriculum?”
“Nope, World Geography as apparently that is the new buzz going around every time the nation finds new lands or developments. So to the East there are the Elves with their barbaric untamed lands that no one took seriously at first with their lack of advancement and overgrowth of their lands. Turns out to be a death trap with nature and something new called megaspells that reshaped terrain or created something new called hurricanes that were launched at expedition forces.”
“Sounds pretty intense for stumbling into their lands on an expedition.”
“Not sure the exact details of why they savaged each other but I assumed our nation was looking around for easy conquests and didn’t expect savages to actually have the fangs to bite back. Now the Ki users to the West were using a new magic field that no one other than the gods have seen before. So it was a tentative diplomatic approach with them with trade being opened up as our patheon got into contact with their gods to figure out god matters between themselves.”
“Gods couldn’t see other gods from across the ocean?”
“They aren’t all knowing and can only see something if they have a follower there to report it as they are busy trying to gain more faith and power.”
“Wait, are they blind then or just don’t care?”
“Ehh, fifty-fifty. Then we got the dragon lands to the north after they all migrated to avoid being used as reagents or trophies by all the mages to the point they made an alliance of survival.”

part 1
>>
>>6179845
“Literally chasing off hoards of dragons must have been a great sight to watch.”
“From what textbooks stated they all flew away like pigeons but scorched earth their path to slow down pursuit and were still dragons so I imagine they took a chunk out of mages that tried to follow them.”
“They could handle dragons but ignore werewolf curses instead. Guess werewolf curse bounties don’t pay as they did in the ancient days.”
“Work below their status. Next, something called the Mist continent is far south past a few island chains. It is something of a mystery as it was discovered but unexplored as the country is busy handling its neighbors nearby.”
“That doesn’t make sense. They had the resources to fight a war with elves, knew to do diplomacy with the Ki, and had enough foresight to scout the dragons but ran out of money to send an expedition south?”
“They have not updated the world maps yet so it must be big or not worth their time to chart.”
“Hmm, well thank you for the knowledge and I will see you tomorrow night.”

Giving out his farewell as Hellscream waves him off as William turns over Hellscream’s words noticing no lies in any of her explanations on geography and only on her trying to undersell the danger of the healing curse inflicted on her. Thoughts drifting over the Mist continent’s mystery as something is being covered up to avoid discovery of whatever is South of the nation. Knowing that it's too far away and a distant problem William turns in for the night as he gets ready for his sabotage mission for the knights and nuns. Walking toward his bed as he just flops on the bed not bothering to get ready and letting sleep take him.

Waking back out as the sun rises over the horizon as he gets ready for the day again rechecking his gauntlets making sure the mana nodes humm without a hint of crackles or violent buzzing. Adjusting his uniform making sure the creases and folds get padded out before returning to his plan for the day as he rings up Betty to try and set up a plan for the day. Ranging from grouping up the nuns to maximize a fireball ward on the tray, making multiple wards and delaying triggers to bait in knights and triggering them as well to cut into their magic, to even attempting to frame her for damages as she exits the cafeteria to preserve her staff’s safety but all requiring the entire day to wait and set up to be made by William.

-Create just one fireball ward to trigger on the Revelation’s leader. Easy, simple, but medium rune knight leader encounter and need to guide the staff out.(40%)
-Create multiple fireball ward triggers on the leaders. Guaranteed leader encounter but need to keep cafeteria staff alive while avoiding discovery, firefight, and panic.
