Religion is pretty big, although not as big ass it used to be. And not because of Nemo or anything, just simply because overtime devotion to Relgion has become less important in favor of devotion to your nation, similar to the real world in those years.
It's still a prominent thing, but not so much as that people structure their lives around it as much anymore. That said, Religion in it's various forms have provided much use to many countries in combating magic and the like.
Like our Nun character, I call her a Nun simply because she worked for the church, but really she was our expert on all things occult/magical. If we encountered some monster, she knew how to kill it. If there was some ward or curse on a place, she knew how to break it. As an actual role she was like a cleric, helping with buffs and stuff as an ordained church mage.
In practice though she was like a Sister of Battle I suppose, she was a good fighter too and had some various strong items to help.
As for angels and demons, they're known to exist. Just that, it's rare if ever that people encounter holy entities/powers, whereas demons are much more willing to show themselves and interact with people. It's kind of like in the real world how you have Saints, and accounts of people interacting with demons. Just that, those accounts are known to be true.
Just because of the presence of the church and it's powers though (catholic) however, doesn't mean Judeo-Christian religions are the only religions to be seen as having tangibility or the dominant religion. Hinduism, Paganism, etc... all have presences in the setting.
It's just that as I said, with Religion not such a big factor anymore, and in most cases religious displays and vestiges of power limited to the utmost highest ordained members, it's become more like what Religion is in the world today, rather than what it was with actual events affecting people. |
