We assuage our boredom through the fine arts, travel and exploration, but... Most importantly, repetition. Humans, with their limited lifespans, desire new things. They want to go out and do what has not been done, to squeeze as much life into their years as they can. An elf has no such imperative. Though in our youths we travel and explore, there are many older elves amongst us who awaken at the same stroke of the hour every morning, consume the same meal, work the same craft, bed the same husband, and sleep the same waking sleep every day for millennia. There is comfort and meaning in repetition. For all of our wanderlust and adventuresome spirit, the older we get, the more apparent it is that life is best when kept simple and similar. |
