I've been testing a heavy-duty temporal displacement field. If something attacks me at any point within the past week, it gets fixed twice into the same set of coordinates. In effect, its future self is superimposed on its past self. This is invariably fatal, and very messy.

    Actually you are wrong.

306.5d Each planeswalker has a number of loyalty abilities, which are activated abilities with loyalty symbols in their costs. Loyalty abilities follow special rules: A player may activate a loyalty ability of a permanent he or she controls any time he or she has priority and the stack is empty during a main phase of his or her turn, but only if none of that permanent’s loyalty abilities have been activated that turn. See rule 606, “Loyalty Abilities.”

It's a comp rules issue that only comes up every once and a while.

Yeah, most of why it was used on so few was that they could only really put it on Ninjas, which were only like, 8 cards in blue and black.

Same went for Transmute, actually; it was in a large set (Ravnica as compared to Betrayers), so it got 13 cards, but at least it has a name that means they can actually reuse it for stuff (like Tolaria West).

Yeah, Ninjitsu was fun, but more of as a flavorful block ability. Bushido is the most elegant version of a creature vs. creature ability that they've printed, and it really could be sprinkled on cards occasionally in any setting. An ability that says "this creature is superior at creature vs. creature combat" - how is a pumping ability like this not in the meta-game? It's clean elegant, and doesn't suffer from insta-killing dread skeleton type cards like flanking. Just seems like a better version of flanking type negative abilities that could scale (Bushido 2-3, etc) without becoming as a Flanking 3 would be. More design space, etc.

No it's considered a spell when it's on the stack, everything IN PLAY is a PERMANENT, not a spell. A creature is a creature permanent, on the stack it's a creature spell. Same with everything else.

Oblivion ring on stack>resolves>becomes enchantment permanent and ability triggers.
