Something dropped to the ground next to him.
“I feel like I should apologize.” Damn right, ya thieving ass-cunt bastard, Kurt roared in his head. “It took me longer than I thought to find one in your size. “I trust it wasn’t too…unpleasant for you?”
That question, not directed to Kurt at all, it would seem, was answered with another kick, this time right in his aching back. He’d have howled in pain, if he could. Right now, it was getting hard just to breath. The Bastard laughed. “Oh, I see. Did you remember to lock the doors?” he asked in a near whisper.
Kurt couldn’t hear her if she replied, but the Blackguard was evidently satisfied.
“Excellent,” he said, “time we should be leaving, then.” Good riddance, whore-thief.
“But first…” half a heartbeat later there was a creak of metal above him. She had passed him the lantern. With a deft, quick motion he did something with his hand and he lit the fuse. “Care to do the honours?”
The lantern passed back into her custody.
With a little whirl and a crash it broke against the side of his desk, instantly engulfing half the wall in a bright flame.
The last thing Kurt saw before the fire reached him was the man in black and the little elf girl in white quickly strolling out into the night and closing the door behind them.
That, and the fresh corpse of a raven-haired little girl in a heap before him. |
