    Chapter 3 pt6.5: http://archive.easymodo.net/tg/thread/14230812

Verity nodded, her medical implant whirring softly. You tried not to look at exactly what she was doing.

"She's fine. As for her armor, it doesn't seem that damaged, though it appears a little weakened. I'll see what we can do about getting it repaired."

Galatea smiled, gently reaching forward and removing the evicerator. She placed it next to you, but within reach. "I think you should be the one to give Tessa the evicerator once Verity finishes up with you... And a rest would be a good idea. I'll see if I can scrounge up any food for you." and walked off.

Tribble bristled a little as you reached toward it, cautiously approaching you.

It watched you for a few moments before climbing up into your lap, curling its little clawed feet under it.

You ran your hand gently through its fur just as Verity finished, sitting you up a bit more. The fluffball began thrumming softly, relaxing. The hospitaller patted you one on the leg before moving to work on Caramel, humming softly to herself.

you heard the door behind you open, Tessa walking into the room. "I'm glad you're alright Esme. You started worrying me. Don't do anything so crazy again or this chaos god will be the least of your worries." She smiled, pulling up a chair next to you. "Galatea says you picked up something for me."

Smile at Tessa. "Love, you needn't worry. The Emperor protects, after all. Oh, and before I forget..." reach out toward the Eviscerator and grab it. "This presentation would be more formal, if it weren't for my...current difficulties." Motion to the fluffball in my lap and my broken leg before giving a sheepish grin. "But yes, I found this for you while I was out. I hope you like it." Quickly sanctify the weapon so that it will have the same properties that Tessa's previous Eviscerator had.

I smile rakishly as she walks into the room, and say, "Well, I was just out and about, and I found a little something that I'm sure you'll love."
I gesture to the blade laying next to me, and watch eagerly to see how Tessa's expression changes.

Once the gift is given, though, I do think that we need to send out some scouts to check on the hive and see how things are going.
I'm not exactly eager to jump in immediately with a broken leg, but that thing that we just fought has me nervous. The god may be gaining power.

Tessa gasped and grabbed the Evicerator, revving it twice. The blessing made itself known, the teeth burning with bluish fire.

The heat was enough to singe Tribble's fur, even from a distance. It opened its eyes immedeately, poofing up and skittering backwards, squeaking angrily. It fell off your lap and the table, struggling for a moment to right itself before running up to Verity It jumped, climbing her leg, squishing down next to caramel in an attempt to hide.

Tessa bit her lip to supress a laugh, switching off the chainsword. She planted a gentle kiss on your forehead. "I love it. Too bad there's no room for the flamer attachment, huh?" She grinned.

She tilted her head when you mentioned scouting. "We actually already sent out several of the novices from Evelyn's team. Evangela is with them. They'll be fine." She leaned in closer, lowering her voice. "I honestly thought they were going to have a stroke when they were told a living saint is going scouting with them. Evangela was not happy with all the attention."

The Celestian glanced up as Galatea walked in, setting a ration bar and some water by your side. "The novices were well supplied, but there isn't a ton left after feeding everyone. Filigree whined the entire time about the taste..." A muscle under her eye twitched. "If she wasn't needed..." The canoness let out a breath, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Ugh... Hopefully this headache will go away soon..."

She could just be fatigued. We've been at this combat thing for hours, and most of the sisters haven't had breaks. She should probably lie down and rest for awhile while we gather up her duties and perform them ourselves.

    Esme shrugs.

"Well, Galatea- I suppose the only thing we can do now is wait on it." She greatfully takes the ration bar- it may have tasted like dust caked with mud, but it was food and one of the few things she'd missed out on the feeling of a full stomach after surviving on the sheer energy of her powersfor the last.... week... month? How long had she been gone again?
She blinks for a moment, and shakes her head, before reaching out and gingerily taking Tessa's hand, squeezing it tight.
"There's nothing more we can do for the moment except to wait until Evangela gets back and plan. Do you think we could have Fortran up here to look at some of the relics we managed to dredge from that museum?" Esme asks, biting her lip. So much to do and so little time to do it in.

I lean back in my chair, sighing contentedly, "So I have nothing better to do than rest? This is quite a treat."
I gesture for Tessa to join me, just cuddling or even taking a nap sounds like absolute bliss at this point.
My eyebrow quirks at Galatea's statement, and I reply, "Maybe you should take a rest, too. We aren't going to be able to do much until the novices get back anyway. When was the last time you took a nap?"

With all of the power we've burned up recently, I think that a little rest could only help us in the coming battle.
Not to mention we can save planning until we actually know what we are facing.
    >> His Divine Wrath 04/04/11(Mon)17:19 No.14473551
Tessa smiled, setting her evicerator down and laying down next to you, though it was rather hard to cuddle in full armor.

Galatea's brow furrowed in thought. "Ugh... It's been at least 24 hours since any of us have slept I think... I'm not *tired* though. I still have a few stim packs left in my armor. I just cant deal with that daemonette anymore."

As if on cue, Filigree charged into the room, babbling. It looks like they had managed to hold her down long enough for the bonesinger to fix some of her armor. She dove behind Galatea, clinging to her powerfist.

Not a moment later, Sawyer came charging into the room, Evicerator in one hand, neural whip in the other. She was yelling incoherently in High Gothic, pointing at Filigree.

Florencia poked her head inside before leaning against the doorframe, clearly enjoying the show.

Verity's voice cut through the noise. "Silentium vos canes scabies!"

Sawyer paused, glancing at the hospitaller. "Wait... Did you just call me a-"

Filigree cut the Mistress off, rushing over to Verity and hugging her. "I have NO idea what you just said but it made her stop yelling! Thank you!"

'Not even a moment of rest before more chaos unfolds,' I think, sighing. "Enough, all of you!" Shout so that all those in the room are quieted. Turn to the Repentia Mistress. "Mistress Sawyer, I see you've met Filigree, the daemonette. Don't kill her; she's bound to one of our Inquisitor allies, and I don't think Inquisitor Kravos would be pleased to find Filigree split in two."

    >Silentium vos canes scabies

Esme suddenly feels her headache get much, much worse.
Barely containing her anger Esme brings her attention to the repentian's mistress. "First of all, using a neural whip on a Slaaneshi daemon is probably the worst idea I've heard all day." Pausing for some air, she continues. "Secondly, it's probably annoying everybody here - but the creature is useful. For now. We can't really be too picky about our allies at the moment. Your righteous zeal will surely not go unrewared, but for now I need you to try your patience." As she continues speaking, the Exalted Martyr narrows her eyes on Filigree. "I've been tempted to unmake her too many times to count. It's probably best if we take turns watching over her - that way we'll minimise the damage to our sanity."

Shifting to face the daemon, Esme points at Carame'ls armour.
"If I understand correctly, you're quite adept at metalwork, Filigree." Esme asks the daemonette. "I'd be grateful if you could get those idols and markings off Caramel's armour? I'd rather not have any of my sisters touch them."

"Seems like we'll take the first shift keeping the daemonette out of everybody's hair." Esme sighs, resting her head on Tessa's shoulder, like she did all those months ago. "I'm glad at least one person managed to get an amusing diversion out of this" She adds as Florencia starts leaving the room.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Raise our voice enough to silence all in the room. "Mistress Sawyer, I see you've met one of our allies in this war, the daemonette Filigree. She was bound by an Inquisitor, Delessa Kravos, and has been placed into service with us. I would advise against killing her; the Inquisitor would not be pleased to find her ripped apart."

Turn to the daemonette hugging Verity. "Don't think you've wormed your way out of this either, girl. Your hyperactivity is rather trying on our Sisters, and some of us need to rest. Perhaps if we directed your energy toward something productive..." Esme thinks for a minute. "Your name implies that you are good with intricate metalwork, yes? If you could, assist Fortran in getting those Sisters of Silence suits into a working fashion--failing that, see if you can cobble together parts to shape the suits into something usable."

(you guys don't have the armor with you, remember? Lugging it around would be difficult. It's back with Delessa. There's gonna be another chapter after this one, so you grabbing them wasn't pointless.)

Sawyer glared at the daemonette but turned and left all the same.

Florencia scowled. "Here I was hoping to see that daemon slaughtered..." turned, and left.

Verity struggled in Filigree's grip, finally getting the arm with the medical implant free, stabbing her in the neck. The daemonette fell without another word, fast asleep.

Sawyer paused, rushing over to Verity, grabbing her by the shoulders. "Why didn't you do that sooner?!"

Verity brushed the mistress's hands off, going back to Caramel. "Because it wont last long on a daemon. You best be gone by the time she wakes to avoid any more trouble."

Sawyer nodded slowly, backing away, eyeing the sleeping daemon cautiously. She slipped out of the room without another word.

You let out a heavy sigh, a soft sound catching your attention. The fluffball had managed to sneak back over onto the table next to the bed, what remained of your ration bar clutched between its paws as it nibbled happily.

"At least that one doesn't talk..." Tessa sighed.

Hopefully, I can keep them all from killing each other.

I shrug, and lean back into Tessa's embrace. That can be worried about later. For now, I simply needed to rest and prepare for the assault on the beast.
For a moment I pause, then say to Verity, "I hate to shove her off on you, but could you keep Filigree around you? You might be able to keep her interested taking care of the patients or something."
I give Tessa a light peck on the lips, then let myself slip into the welcome darkness of sleep.

Tessa smiled, resting her head against yours. She closed her visible eye, slowly going slack as she drifted off.

Verity groaned, rubbing her temples. "You owe me for this Esme..."

You drifted off to sleep just as Caramel began to wake up.

    ***

You woke to something tickling your face. Slowly you opened your eyes to see the fuzzball perched on your armor, less than an inch from your face. It squeaked once as you woke up, forcing its way down and snuggling between your shoulder and chin. It thrummed happily, its fur brushing against your cheek and ear.

Tessa had already gotten up, probably called away to do something. Caramel, Filigree, and Verity were gone too.

You could hear faint chatter in the main hall behind you. Probably the sisters discussing their plan. The door on the far right of the room was slightly ajar. The staircase beyond led down to the storage, heating, and cooling systems for the building.

Hmm. Esme rubs at her eyes, blinking muzzily. Damn. How long was she asleep for, she wonders quietly to herself as she stand up, body aching from the unatural position she had taken in her armor. She licks her lips dryly, the inside of her mouth feeling and tasting like Tribble had decided to roost in there while she had snored away.
... she honestly wouldn't put it past the little fluffball, actually.
Still only half thinking she bends down, and releases a small sigh as her spine cracks into place, her eye wandering idly over the room, not really making out anything intelligble.
.... dooor was ajar. Didn't remember that.... probably nothing.... still.
She trundles over to the door, looking down and round.

(sorry this took so long in coming. The half that I wrote last night made no sense.)

Tribble thrums louder as you pet it, listening to the voices at the door. You could hear the Canonesses speaking in hushed voices, probably trying not to wake you. You could also hear Evelyn, Evangela occasionally giving her input. There were also several voices you did not recognize. Probably the scouts.

You heard the creak of the door off to the side, Caramel slipping quietly out. She looked around before spotting you and walking over.

"Have you seen Tribble? I- oh! There you are!" She held out her hands and the fluffball squeaked excitedly, jumping into her arms.

The chaos star and mark of slaanesh had been removed from her breastplate, though it was still clear where they had been. The daemon face on her pauldron was still there.

"Carol, Coral, Rodwen, Alessa, and Fortran are making bombs using the silver and other stuff they picked up... I never knew much about chemistry so I don't know what they are doing exactly. All I know is that its powerful."

She shrugged lightly, breaking out into a smile. "Filigree managed to remove some of those chaos symbols from my armor! I am not sure what she did with them." She held up her unarmored hand. "Evelyn found me a spare glove. I am happy she is accepting of my presence here."

She gently scratched Tribble, motioning to the door leading to the main hall. "They want to discuss the assault on the hive with you but-" She spasmed a bit, twitching. "Ah! But they aren't sure if... If... Be silent!" She cradled her head in her free hand. "Fine! It... It says that... Wait slow down." She closed her eyes tightly, her jaw tightening. "What do you mean... You would dare ask..." She let out a deep sigh. "...Fine..."

She twitched again, the fluffball squeaking in alarm, leaping to the ground and skittering behind your feet.

Caramel's voice was not her own. "Exalted Martyr. I have noticed an increasing disturbance in the realm around us. It undulates and pulses as this abomination binds together the pieces it draws in from the materium. Like a child assembling a puzzle. Completing this puzzle will mean the loss of your precious planet."

It looked straight at you. "This is not what worries me, Exalted Martyr. This stream of energy is common in the warp. This stream, however, is masking another. It's faint and I merely thought I was imagining it at first... Whatever it is though, it is important. Disrupting it may make the god more vulnerable. This is, however, only speculation. I lost much of my memory when slaanesh remade me."

The daemon spasmed violently. "Relax little one... I am almost done. You may have full control back then. Speech is difficult enough through this seal, even when you do not fight me back." It straightened up. "A full assult would be suicide Exalted one, and while you Emperor praises those who die in combat, I doubt he would reward stupidity. Disrupting the essence of the creature like this may weaken him enough for the existing gods to overwhelm it. If not, we will most likely have delayed the god's progress in some way."

"I shall take my leave now before someone comes in and decides to shoot me. This decision is up to you."

Caramel fell to her knees, clutching at her head and stomach. She managed to crawl to an enormous stone urn before emptying the contents of her stomach into it, taking several shuddering breaths.

Almost immediately Tribble was back at her side, nuzzling her gloved hand. She rested her head on the lip of the urn, waving off any help you may be offering with her free hand. "I am fine Exalted One... Just a moment's rest..."

I pull her into a fierce hug despite her paltry protests. "Thank you for enduring that, that beast may have given us the tool that I need to destroy the god."
As I rock the poor woman gently, my mind roils. While destroying this flow would weaken the god, the statement about the other gods simply tearing it apart and gaining its power sounds no better than losing Ophelia.
We will have to still launch the assault. If I can destroy the hidden stream, or disrupt it long enough for my Sisters to destroy the thing with holy methods, we might prevent this god from simply making the older ones more powerful.
I nod grimly. Even if the stream is weak, I have the distinct feeling that it will be well protected. I will be horribly exposed fighting it.
Once Caramel regains some of her composure, I stand and stride to the door. We needed to plan this assault, and I felt that I finally knew my part in defeating this beast.

    --A portrait of Mistress Sawyer

"Are you well, Caramel?" Lay an assuring hand on her back and, if she looks back at us, give her a reassuring smile. "Please, take as long as you need to recuperate."

Turn to the rest of the group. "That demon living inside Caramel has probably given us the intel we need to bring down this birthing chaos god.

"But one thing at a time. We know that this god is pulling pieces of our realm into its own. We know that if it continues patching itself together like this that Ophelia VII will fall, and the Imperium will have to face the fury of a new god, not to mention deal with the loss of a sanctified world, second only to Holy Terra itself. But, we also now know that, even as the Warp screams all around us, there is a way to critically wound--or even stop entirely--this beast." I'd say we started doing that a long time ago, back when we were still in the realm and destroying the orbs. The birthing of this new Chaos god has, for lack of a better term, disturbed the balance of power in the Warp; destroying it and letting the remnants be fought over by the Big Four will, in essence, bring balance to the Warp.

Maybe if we somehow trap the energy of the god on Ophelia? If we can cut both streams and then destroy what is on the planet surface, we might be able to prevent the other gods from getting too much power from its death.

Barring some miracle like an Imperial Guard battleforce, Space Marine chapter, or Grey Knight force dropping into orbit to assist us, it doesn't seem likely that we'll be able to hold a direct assault--like Caramel's demon said, it would be a suicide mission.

Surely though, some sort of distress signal had gotten out before or during the attack--isn't there any way of knowing if the cavalry's gonna arrive, and what it's gonna be? Or was this resolved earlier, in part 2 of the quest?

    >Grey Knights/Legion of the damned
Firstly, Everything that happens is still random. I basically have a chart that dictates what happens next to try and advance the story. This way I can't just have someone drop in and rescue you. legion of the damned, however, isn't on my chart. I am adding it now. If Grey Knights show up I'm going with the novel/daemonhunters version and ignoring the Matt Ward garbage.

    >Distress signals
Distress signals did get out but if you remember from chapter 2 the warp was very turbulent and nearly caused your gellar fields to fail. The warp is much calmer now but the system is partially encased in a warp storm, slowly being dragged into an alternate reality.

    >Chaos fighting chaos
No you're not. Chaos always fights with chaos and makes the energies of the warp constantly flow. From what I understand Malal wants to completely destroy Chaos rather than continue the cycle.

Its really just several templates (d6,d8,d12,d20,d%) that i fill in the blanks, roll on, then wipe. It lets be balance good/bad results for determining your performance aswell.

In all seriousness, the heightened amount of Warp activity probably garbled a large amount of the distress signals that got out, so we're probably on our own on this one; probably the only way people will know of what's happening here is if a group of pilgrims try to enter the system and find out that there's a warp storm going on and daemons, daemons everywhere.

We can hope, though. If even one clean distress signal got through, we can hope that our Imperial allies got it. Pray to the Emperor that the Guard or Space Marines are assembling a strike force to intervene, since there is probably no way of us knowing what's going on outside of the warp storm.

She crossed her arms. "Such powerful warp energies are bound to manifest in a physical way at set points. These can be vulnerable."

Galatea nodded. "So we just follow the stream until we encounter one."

Rodwen sighed. "Yes I suppose you could use such a method. The closer we get to the creature's lair, the more reenforced these points are I would imagine... Only why destroy them? Yes these points are likely heavily guarded, but have you considered merely following them? Severing the energy would make it vanish, forcing us to attack the god head on with no real knowledge of the affect we had on it. Would it not be smarter to use the stream as a means of navigation and entry? I am positive we will encounter guards, but at least we will not have crossfire to deal with."

Suppose we get to the Citadel and, due to a hilariously bad roll, the bombs don't detonate. Then we're on the doorstep of an angry birthing Chaos god who's probably pretty close to full strength.

I don't wanna take chances. Follow the thread, find a node, destroy said node, and move on. Rinse and repeat with several stops for rest, supplies, and possible backup acquisition until we reach the Citadel. Then, the attack goes all out--start shooting everything that isn't Imperial or allied to us.

If we can cut the thing's connection with the warp and trap it here on Ophelia, then use our bombs, I think that we could probably do enough damage that we could clean up the rest fairly easily.
If we just blow it up with the connection to the warp intact, it could just escape or be eaten by the other gods.
But I agree that a full on assault right now is stupid. We are a tiny force that is exhausted, so we need to play this smart.
I suppose ask Rodwen if she can read the currents of the warp and direct us where to go, and get Eden to help us out.

Rodwen rolled her eyes. "Finding a node in the stream of energy gives us a physical point to use. It will allow us to collapse it in on itself. This is not possible or simply very difficult from the origin point."

She took a deep breath. "These streams will be heavily guarded, as I said before. Fighting our way to the hive will be more difficult than if we went up and knocked. The security inside, however, will likely be less since most of the main forces are dealing with the attacking daemons rather than guarding the interior... probably."

Galatea nodded. "Guards will not be non-existant but from a military standpoint, keeping the bulk of one's regular troops away from the action during an attack is ill-advised. Don't think for one minute the god itself will be unguarded, however. It's foolish to send every soldier out to fight.

You have to decide between taking the time to collapse the stream and hoping that weakened the god before going with full frontal assault.

You can go full frontal assault being as bombastic/stealthy as you want in hopes of saving as much time as possible.

You can go follow the stream in hopes that you'll encounter marginally fewer enemies and take minimum casualties

I vote for severing the thread and then commencing a full assault. The god will hopefully be weakened enough that we can make a sizable dent in its defenses.

Gather the troops. It's time we tell the others of our plans and proclaim the rites of battle.

How about we combine all three options? Follow thread to it's main branching point from the main stream of the Warp on this planet, sever the connection at that branching point, then attack the Citadel in full force.
    >> His Divine Wrath 04/10/11(Sun)20:04 No.14549653
    >>14548299

by following the thread you can find an alternate way in. Its very difficult to collapse the steram from the root. I dont think you want to expend the energy to do that.
    >> Anonymous 04/10/11(Sun)21:38 No.14550560
Alright let's see if I understand our options

The newborn god is bonding with Ophelia, and may turn it into a chaos planet.

Right now the deamons of chaos undivided are storming the citadel- the living god itself as formed from the remains of the hive

Currently the god is drawing on connections to the warp from itself to power its transformation
these streams are forming large distortions in realspace, which are lead to his heart and are guarded by the gods minions.
We can access these streams and follow them,.
Destroying them would make it easier to assault the heart, but cut off our passage into the citadel, and also empower the other chaos gods.

    I miss anything yet?
    >> His Divine Wrath 04/10/11(Sun)21:52 No.14550735
    >>14550560

the streams provide an alternate route into the hive.

you don't know what the streams do yet. Destroying it may weaken the god or it may do nothing. same thing goes for all the "maybes" I'll be rolling for them

Caramel's demon said that it is important to the god. If it's important, I vote that we destroy it. This thread is supplying the god with something, anything--could be power, could be sustenance, could be fresh souls. Destroying it, unfortunately, is the only way of seeing whether or not it's actually doing something useful for the god.

It's important but destroying it might not actually HELP us

    >> Anonymous 04/11/11(Mon)03:50 No.14554133
    >>14552281

My reason for destroying the thread is this: it would be dangerous for us to simply follow this thread through a backdoor into the Citadel. While we would have stealth on our side, the god would be getting ever stronger. I would not like to see casualties occur because the god was strong enough to repulse the attacks sent by the Big Four; at the moment they are more allies than enemies.

If the thread were destroyed, however, the god may become weakened. This would allow our assault to be that much more effective, and end this battle that much quicker. The daemons of the Big Four will have to be dealt with afterwards, though, and I do not see them simply leaving this world alone unless some battleforce drops out of the sky (or Warp) and aids us.

Also on the topic of us being in the Warp: While it is possible for us to meet the LoTD, what are our chances of seeing the primarchs of the Space Wolves or the White Scars, Leman Russ and Jaghatai Khan?

That could go either way, you know. This is Ophelia VII we're talking about, a planet second in holiest only to Holy Terra itself; the ramifications of a planet of this magnitude falling would be massive. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Fulgrim or Angron leading the troops on the Citadel. We might even see Magnus or Mortarion, if they're not too busy out in the Eye of Terror.

Well, here's what I managed to write while almost falling asleep. Sorry if it's crap.

    Sisters, valued allies!

I do not know how how many of us remain at this point. Of the millions who stood to hold Ophelia VII we might well be the last Imperial forces to defend this world. I want to speak to you as one of those who may change history in the coming days, who have already changed history in the days past. I speak to my sisters, as a sister.

I do believe that every just citizen of the Imperium would give everything to be in our place. No matter the outcome, billions will wish to have had the chance to fight amongst us.
Look to the sister at your side - could any of us ask for better company in the coming battle?

You know that our situation is grim. Large parts of our holy shrine world have been swallowed by the warp, daemons defiling its surface this very second. Some unnamed horror twisting it to its whims.

I do not need to educate you about the tide of heresy that is sweeping across our beloved world, worse than anything we could have ever anticipated. Worse than anybody would have dared to suggest.

But our enemy made a fatal mistake. He revealed himself to us, and all of us know just too well that if left unchecked, heresy will grow and corrupt. If our enemy had been allowed to grow unchecked, if it had remained undisturbed just a few more days, my sisters, we might just as well be facing a second Eye of Terror.

Instead, we have been given to save the Imperium from a fate that might have well spelled hardship for ballions, if not its end.
Of all the billions of humans in the galaxy, only we have been found worthy to defend Emperor and Imperium this day.

As I speak to you, my sisters, our enemies are busy fighting each other. Such is their way, and it has always been their weakness. We, however, have preserved our strength as well as we could. We have brought allies, we have gathered those who remain of us.

While the daemons are busy throwing his forces at each other we will [Plan goes here]. I can assure you, they will not be prepared for us. These foul creatures think that because we are in the warp they are insurmountable.

Let me ask you, how many worlds had to be purified by exterminatus after the foul warp spawn touched the materium?

    How can that be?
The Emperor protects the worlds of humanity. The sisterhood; The guard; The astartes stand ready to do his bidding.

As all of you know, the only reason we have not carried the Emperor's Divine Wrath to the realm of chaos was because we could not follow. Everything entering the warp is a plaything of its foul creatures.

But not today. Oh, no - the Emperor will see to that!
We are here, and it seems that whatever has tried to steal Ophelia VII will have to fight us on equal terms.

Praise the Emperor for letting us strike fear into our opponents minds!
Praise the Emperor for shielding us from this place!
Praise the Emperor for guiding us here!
    Praise the Emperor!

Before you make your final preparations for the coming battle, I must ask 2 things of you.
Firstly, pray for your fallen sisters and those who gave their lives in the defence of this world. Give your praises unto him, let him console your fears. Do not worry, even I fear what the warp might have in store of us. Remember, it is not fearlessness the Emperor asks of us but the faith to stare down the horrors of the warp despite our weaknessess.
Secondly, I have to ask you - my sisters - to be careful. The Imperium has already gained more than enough martyrs in the last few hours. Those need to be remembered, something only you can do. You need to live to tell the tale how the Emperor's finest stormed the warp and prevented a new age of strife.

Even if we succeed... if none of us survive, if every single one of us should perish while performing their duty....

Well,do you really want the schola to teach how the Ultra Marines saved the Imperium on Ophelia VII?

    I might have something.

After gathering the Sisters and our allies into a large meeting-chamber, Esme strides to the front of the group. She increases her aura ever so slightly, if to appear that much more holy, that much more inspiring, to the weary group of troops. After passing a glance through the crowd, seeing the tired, the hungry, those that can barely stand, she steels her resolve, and begins.

"Friends, allies, Sisters," she gives passing glances to those she mentions. "Some of you I have had the pleasure of knowing since the Schola," give a glance and a nod to Tessa. "Others of you I have only known for the past few hours." Give nods to Sister Evelyn and Mistress Sawyer "But that does not matter now. All of you have fought valiantly, your courage and zeal admirable. I am glad to have served alongside each and every one of you." Give a small bow.

"We may come from different walks of life, difference races, even different planes of existence--but now, we are comrades, brothers-in-arms. We have come together this day to face the challenge of a new threat that dangers all of us equally--a birthing god of Chaos. Even the eldest of the Chaos gods, our greatest enemy--Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle, and Tzeentch--realize the dangers this god holds, and as we speak, beset the walls of the unholy citadel that protects it. I know not what these daemons may do after the attack, but it seems--for now, at least--that the old adage holds true: 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend.'

"What we are about to do would be considered by most standards foolish. The Warp screams all around us. We are cut off from the galaxy at large, and are, very much, on our own. We have no chance of reinforcement and no chance of resupply, barring a miracle of His Divine Will made manifest. An Imperial Guard general would call this impossible; a Space Marine captain would consider this a suicide mission." Give the hint of a smirk. "I say that we prove them wrong."

Farseer Rodwen, Chloe, Filigree--I hope that you are up to the task of finding the corporeal manifestation of this stream, so we can sever it. According to our intelligence, this act should weaken the god sufficiently before we launch an assault on the Citadel itself. Using explosives prepared by Carol, Coral, and Alessa, we shall then breach the walls of the Citadel, fight our way inside, and destroy this god while it is in its birthing moments.

"I won't tell you we'll all be coming back from this. There will be casualties, I am sad to say. But I want you to remember something, Sisters. Remember that this is Ophelia VII. Remember that this world is second in holiness to Holy Terra itself. Remember that, and do not waste your lives. Remember that, and let that zeal burn inside of your hearts. Adeptus Sorotias- my sisters in arms! In one hour, each one of you will take part in the most important mission in the history of our orders. A mission that will result in the defeat of one of the most vile enemies humanity has ever faced.
You all know the mission, and what is at stake. This god has brought chaos to this, our most holy of worlds- I know that each of you has fought harder then they have ever fought in the last three days, watched friends and comrades in arms alike fall before their times. You have been tested, and proven your faith a hundred times, and I know that each of you would gladly be tested a hundred times again!
And yet, I see in your eyes the same fear that would take my own. There is no need to contest it, no matter how strenuously you may object- for what sane person would truly go forward facing a god itself with anything other then dread? This is not an ordinary foe- it has corrupted the very ground beneath or feet, and turn our sanctities of sanctities- our home- against us. What attack can be mounted against this you may ask?
Well, believe me when I say we can break this foe here, and now.
A day may come when the courage of the daughters of the Emperor fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day! An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when all that we hold dear comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! Though our bodies may be broken, our very souls extinguished, we will fight, and we will throw down this false warp spirit, and reclaim Ophellia VII!

ADEPTUS SOROTIAS- The Sisters of battle! Queens of holy war!
The God emperor looks to us this day, we his most beloved children and what shall he see?
Cowards? No. No, he will see the burning light of our faith! The ground stained red with blood of His enemies!
He will hear the ring of our swords, and the thunder of our autoguns, and see the flash of our powerswords, and by the sweat of our brows, and the strength of our backs…and the courage of our hearts- The god Emperor will know we have done his blessings proud!
Go now, and no matter what happens this day, know that you are truly blessed, and that, whatever happens, all others shall bow their heads in shame and think they were not warriors of god to have missed such a battle as this!
For Terra! For the orders! For the loved ones we will never hold again!

Oh joy. Coming back to trolls. lovely. I actually haven't even checked the quest since I posted >>14564954

I'm taking this time to do some rolls early so I have some idea where this quest is going. I must say. I rolled some... interesting results.

now i'm working on and off on a large reply. I mean... I could easily say "they went" but then it wouldn't be sororitas quest, now would it?

Character wise, i'm actually dissappointed how poorly some of them are defeloped. The twins, filigree, tessa, caramel, etc are all developed enough but characters like Evelyn and Sawyer need work and I have no excuse for how i've neglected Eden and Sonja and the banshee exarch considering they aren't new to the story. Evangela needs a bit more and there are another handful that need fine tuning.

Except for Elizabeth. She's supposed to be a flat pyromaniac :P

(forgive my lateness. I got tons of rolling and planning done to smooth some future events out a bit)

The room erupted into a chorus of litanies and praises as you finished speaking, the Sisters and allies mobilizing almost immediately. Rodwen snatched a crude map of the area Eden had been drawing off the table. She pulled you and the Canonesses aside, Filigree poking her head over your shoulder, wondering what you were doing. "Once we find the stream, we'll have to follow it toward the hive until we find a node. The closer we get, the more power or time it will take to disrupt it, but we can't afford backtracking to find one instead. I'm sure the little mon-keigh psyker will be able to sense it easily. Remember, stay alert. Once the stream is collapsed the god will know our exact position."

Filigree reached forward, tracing her finger over the parchment. "The stream runs through here." Rodwen paused, glancing at her. The daemonette shrugged, nibbling on a ration bar. "I noticed it earlier. Didn't think it was important enough to point out."

After taking a moment to scold Filigree, The Canonesses began barking orders, occasionally getting into small scuffles as inevitable contradictions arose in their commands. It wasn't long before Rodwen jumped in, arguing with the Canonesses over the best strategy to approach the situation. The marching order they eventually settled on resembled your original layout, however it was more spread out than yours had been.

They placed the Repentia near the front, letting the Banshee Exarch take the middle and putting Tessa and her Celestians near the back. Evelyn and her novices were used to fill in any remaining gaps in the defenses. The formation wasn't perfect, but it would have to do. Filigree was stuck out in front, none too kindly, to steer the group in the direction of the thread.

    >>14583615

The march was slow and tedious, your group on constant watch for an attack. You had a couple close calls as the ground around nearby buildings erupted into a writhing mass of chitinous stalks, but managed to get by each one unmolested.

Finally Filigree paused, glancing around. She circled back, stopping abruptly. "Its here. Underground. Not too deep..." She began to follow it.

You hadn't even walked 5 minutes when you heard a loud screech off o your right. An enormous centipede like creature barreled into your group, as long as a Leman Russ, sending half of the sisters flying. It was covered in plated scales, its entire front half of its body rearing up, bioluminecent spots illuminating its pulsing organs through its translucent underbelly. It opened its massive venom-soaked maw as it let out another scream, the noise like nails dragging across slate.

The snake daemon from before. Complete.

Three more joined it, the creatures skittering forward on many legs, encircling the group with frighting speed, forked tongues flicking the air.

You took advantage of the opportunity she opened, lashing out with your claw at the translucent underbelly. Sparks leapt as the weapon bit into the scales, scraping down. The creature screeched in rage but the underbelly was, by no means, soft.

You heard one of the creatures scream off to the side. Caramel's sollex blade was having more effect but these creatures had even thicker armor than the snakes you had fought before.

You managed to dodge as The creature struck at you, a scream followed by the tearing of power armor echoed somewhere behind you but turning your back on this thing to look would be suicide.

She forces herself to shut out the sound of battle, of the death around her, and to focus on the beast in front of her, gripping the pommel of her sword tightly as she watches the behemoth deamon attack with a swiftness belying its great size.

She flies forward, power claw extend, raking her flanged fingers across the creatures brow, hoping to score out it's eyes or at the very least blind it with it's own blood. Precariously, she alights atop it's head, digging her claws deeply into the beasts flesh. Flailing for a moment she steadies her hand to drive her sword deeply through the creatures skull, hoping to pierce whatever noxious organ it uses as a brain.

Its head whipped back in an attempt to throw you. You tried to bring your force blade down on the creature's skull, but you risked losing your grip.

Evangela, however, took the hint and struck for you. She attempted to ram the spinning blade into the creature's mouth, mutilating the inside of its lower jaw. It whipped its head back, nearly throwing you. Evangela's chainsword was ripped from her hand and sent flying, the living saint struggling to stay airborne.

You dug the claw in deeper as Evangela lunges for her sword. You attempted to send a psykic pulse through the weapon, vaguely aware of Evangela's attempts to remove her weapon. It took more effort than you thought it would, certainly more than it took to empower your force blade, but you managed to unleash a powerful psykic blast directly into the snake-centepede creature's skull.

It's screech was loud enough to rattle your armor as it reared up one last time, toppling to the ground, smoke pouring from its blackened eye-sockets.

Your headache was back in full force, a bit of fatigue creeping into your limbs. You shake it off, turning to look at the other daemons. You had to help.

The closest one was the one injured by Caramel. Her sollex blade had slowed it down, but it was still in the fight. The creature had taken out one of the Repentia and looked rather pissed.

The one to your other side was flailing wildly. With a few careful shots, Sonja had managed to blind and disorient the daemon, the melta and heavy flamer making its scales glow as it was slowly cooked from the inside out. Key word, slowly. If Sonja missed a shot it may recover enough to realize their location and attack and with their heavier weapons, dodging such a wild strike would be neigh impossible.

The final snake-centepede was wildly attacking Evelyn and her novices. Three of the novices were missing. The sister carrying Alessa's rocket launcher was there though, as well as the banshee exarch and Tessa. The sheer number of targets was confusing the daemon, several enormous chunks missing from its armored scales. The concussive blasts of the rockets were more effective than most of the other weapons. It was still at full strength though and it would remain as such until another rocket hit one of the already weakened spots and breached the armor.

Evangela looked to you, pausing to see if you had some direction to give her.

"Evangela, protect the heavy weapons!" I shout as I launch myself towards the daemon wounded by the rocket launchers.
As I sprint towards the writhing monstrosity, I angle towards one of the gaping wounds that had been opened in its scales. With an opening like that, I could easily use my powers through my force sword.
Once the beast turns from me to try and lunge at one of the novices, I leap up and plant both my claw and sword into the things relatively soft flesh.
With a smaller amount of energy than I had to use with my claw, I channel my powers through my sword, cooking at least a portion of the foul thing.

Damn damn damn. Esme prayed silently that Sonja was as good with the flamer as we remembered, and dashed toward the one currently wounded by Caramel, her legs pumping as fast as they can carry her.
She leaps up and wedges her blade in the snakes wound, before pulling it downwards, letting the flare of her holy power run along the edge of the blade as she eviscerators the creature.

It would appear we have reached an impasse. I offer this solution:

Look to Evangela. "Protect Alessa, Elizabeth, Anna and Sonja. Drive the beasts back if you can." After she gives me an affirmative, dash toward the beast attacking Tessa, Evelyn, and the initiates, slashing toward one of the enormous gashes in the beast's armor.
    >> Anonymous 04/18/11(Mon)03:07 No.14631095
    >>14625699

"Protect the heavy weapon teams. If you manage to take down that beast, help Caramel." Shake off the headache momentarily, steeling ourselves. "I will help Tessa defend the initiates." Spring toward the beast attacking Tessa and Evelyn with a responsorial psalm on or lips, singing it loud enough that Tessa and the Initiates may hear us and join in:

The Emperor is my light, my protector.
    Though the savage Xeno moves against me, I will not falter;
    (response: My faith is strong!)
    Though the deceitful heretic moves to sway me, I will not answer his cries;
    (response: My faith is absolute!)
    Though the unholy daemon moves to unmake me, I will not fall;
    (chorus: I shall prevail!)
For the Emperor protects in all things!
(response: Through him we shall prevail!)

To clarify what I want, send Evangela to help the heavy weapon teams and Esme to help out the initiates.
With the huge gaps in the armor, we might be able to kill it quickly enough to help out Caramel.
Also, hate to say it, but the heavy weapons are more valuable than repentia at this point.

Couldn't we try to distract the monster neither Evangela nor we are attacking? Some psychic attack to disorient it - a ball of lightning for example? Doesn't need to do much damage, just keep it off the other sisters.

Drawing both of the beasts toward us would be a massive snafu. Not only would that require that we expend what little energy we have left, but that would mean we'd have to face three very angry, very aggressive snake daemons while the rest of our forces regroup--and I don't like those odds. Engaging the daemons one by one is probably the better choice of the two.

I was thinking more along the lines of a psychic flash bang, or something like that. Nothing that draws attention to Esme, but keeps the creature confused/busy without endangering the sisters fighting it.

But if we draw the deamons towards us all at once, then it'll be easier for our troops to take out their weakspots

(yeah I'm fine. I'm just running low on creativity. Its not like it was when I first started. If my creativity comes back I'll keep going though.)

Evangela jumped into the air, coming down hard on the centipede engaging the heavy weapons teams. You didn't have time to watch her fight, leaping at the daemon that the initiates were fighting.

You managed to get the jump on the enormous snake, ramming your force blade into a gaping wound in its side. For a moment, it didn't look like the blade would pierce the remainder of the armor, but eventually slid home. You conjured your power, the blade pulsing brightly as you fueled your fury into a destructive maelstrom of power. The beast screamed, rearing back as you cooked it from the inside out and finally fell, panting and twitching weakly.

A sharp sound filled your head, the pitch raising above the barking bolters, making your teeth ache. You recognized it as Caramel's sonic pistol. You turned in time to see the beast's barbed tail arch up and bat the corrupted sister off of its back, sending her skidding and bouncing, bloodying her exposed arm. She came to rest slightly curled up, protecting the panicked fluffball.

The daemon we managed to kill was the one attacking Evelyn, and the one Evangela went off to attack was the one blinded by Sonja?

Barely pausing enough to draw breath, I order into the vox, "Initiates! Open fire on the snake attacking Caramel!"
As the young women hastily reformed their fire line and poured bolter rounds into the beast, I sprint forward, hoping it doesn't notice me as the rounds strike home.
Panting slightly, I launch myself at one of the wounds opened by Caramel and pray that my force blade will find purchase.

Turn to Tessa, giving a grin. "I don't leave for five minutes and you get yourself into trouble." Clap her on the pauldron. "Where would you be without me?"

Look to Evelyn. "Gather up your initiates. Help Evangela repel the snake beast harassing our heavy weapons." Turn back to Tessa. "You, come with me; we're gonna save Caramel and the Repentia."

Barely managing to stand after tearing her blade free, the Exalted Martyr begins barking orders to Evelyn.
"Get the wounded sisters to out of danger, Exarch, if you see a chance to help Evangela, do so - the rest of you, cover my attack! Aim for its eyes and don't let it get close to you!"
Not allowing her to pause until the current threat has been eliminated Esme begins moving towards the creature poised to attack Caramel. "For the Emperor" she cries, sword raised as she attempts to find a good angle of attack on the daemon. "I'll not allow even a single one of them to fall to you." she whispers to herself, hoping the Emperor will allow her to make good on that promise.

I'm guessing this means that all the general combat's coming to a standstill for now. Should this be archived on sup/tg/?

Also, since we're taking a little break, I propose a discussion be started with what little space we have left. In the event that we are rescued--or something pops out of the Warp and allies with us--, of who would you like to see the battleforce composed?
